What began as a swollen calf and shortness of breath quickly turned into a fight for life — and a journey into eternity.

Author Randy Kay, in an interview with CBN News, says he was clinically dead after suffering seven blood clots — one near his heart and six blocking his pulmonary artery. Doctors told him he was a “walking dead man.”

“I had seven clots,” Kay recalls. “One near my heart, six that were blocking the pulmonary artery, which is the main blood flow to the lungs.”

His condition deteriorated rapidly. After collapsing during a medical examination, he was rushed to the emergency room, where physicians discovered the severity of the blockage. To make matters worse, Kay contracted MRSA in the hospital, which entered his bloodstream and caused clotting throughout his body.

“[They] tried to draw blood from my arm and could not,” he says. “It was like a traffic jam.”

As his body convulsed on the hospital bed, Kay says survival was his only thought.

“I was flopping around on the hospital bed… like a floppy fish out of water. I lost control. Could not breathe.”

Moments later, everything changed.

“My body went still,” he says. “Initially it felt like a tugging at my hospital gown… that was my spirit leaving my body.”

Kay describes looking down at his lifeless form from above.

“I became a third party to my body. So I was looking down on this still body. I knew that was my body, but that wasn’t me.”

He says he was then pulled upward by a brilliant light into what he describes as a galactic space. Suddenly, he saw what appeared to be spiritual warfare unfolding before him.

“On the right side, I saw these towering figures, which I later came to understand were angels. On the left side, I saw these other towering figures that were more decrepit looking… those were demons. They were warring over my soul.”

Though he had been born again and even taught in church, Kay says he had entered this moment during a personal crisis of faith. But as the battle raged, he knew exactly what to do.

“I knew implicitly… to cry out the name of Jesus Christ.”

Instantly, he says, he was no longer alone.

“As soon as I cried out the name of Jesus Christ, I was side to side with this figure who I knew was Jesus.”

What overwhelmed him most was not fear — but love.

“The first thought was, ‘So this is love.’ The person of love was so impactful to me that I knew that this was love…”

Kay describes Jesus embracing him and whispering two words that would forever mark his life: “Trust me.”

“To this day, that’s my mantra,” Kay says. “That’s how I live my life.”

He says light radiated from Christ, illuminating every dark place within him, filling him with joy. Then Jesus took him through moments from his childhood and adulthood, revealing how He had been present even when Kay had drifted into agnosticism.

“He showed me how He’d been with me every moment of my life, bringing me to this point.”

Today, Kay shares his story with one central message echoing from eternity: Trust Him.
