There is something remarkable happening at 2819 Church located in Atlanta, Georgia.

In a powerful interview with the Associated Press, Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell shared that the church’s rapid growth is an unexpected gift from the Holy Spirit.

“Sometimes I don’t know why my preaching is reaching the various people groups that are being reached,” Mitchell says. “I think there are times when I’m still shocked myself…I was raised in the hood. I don’t have a seminary degree. I’m still a little rough around the edges, and I think for me sometimes I stand up on Sunday and I’ll turn my back to the church and I’ll just cry staring at the screen when I see the beauty of what Jesus is doing.”

Tatjuana Phillips, director of ministries at 2819 Church, also spoke about the church’s rapid growth, noting, “We went from 180 people to like five or six thousand very quickly.”

While this move of God may be unprecedented, those who attend the church believe that Mitchell’s unashamed, bold preaching, along with his personal testimony, are the pieces that are connecting with the masses. In a time when more people are moving away from religion, 2819 is seeing souls saved and set free through the blood of Jesus.

“The Gen Zs and the Millennials…there is a hunger for spirituality, and I think a hunger for authenticity,” says Mitchell. “I think a lot of them are tired of fluff.”

The story of 2819 Church and Philip Anthony Mitchell is a reminder of how God can use anyone to fulfill His divine plans and purposes to bring the kingdom of God onto this earth.
