The family of freed Israeli hostage Evyatar David is speaking out after his return home.

David was a musician who was at the Nova Music Festival when he was captured by Hamas. As the Jerusalem Post reports, David was with three other friends at the time, two of which were murdered by the Hamas terrorists. David and his friend, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, were abducted by the terrorists.

Now after 738 days in captivity, David has come back home to Israel.

In an piece by the Daily Mail, dozens of loved ones came to see the 24-year-old come home. Earlier this year photos and a video came out of a starved Evyatar David being forced to dig his own grave by Hamas. David’s mother previously stated that “My son is not a great actor, and they still put my son in a role with a gun over his head.”

His brother, IIay, also noted that this was the “first ever sign of life” the family received of David after he was abducted.

Ms. Rinat Israeli had the welcome party at her home. Her son, Sagi, is a close friend of David. “I was waiting for this moment for two years. When he was inside it was like I could not breathe. This is the feeling,” she said. “You are waiting for this moment every day. Every moment I talked to him, I sent him the sun and the wind and the love. I wished him good morning and good evening.”


According to the Jerusalem Post, IIay also noted David, “…looks half the man he was. He looks starved. He looks exhausted.” However, knowing his brother is alive is an immense weight off of his shoulders.

After more than two years of unimaginable suffering, Evyatar David’s homecoming is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest places, God hears the cries of His people. As his family rejoices through tears, believers around the world can join them in thanking God for his safe return. May stories like this renew our faith in a God who redeems, restores and brings light to even the deepest darkness.
