An earthquake rattled the world so profoundly that it killed 69 people dead and left many more injured.
A 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu, Philippines on Tuesday, which was the deadliest quake since 2013 to hit the Philippines, according to Reuters. After the tragic event, rescue teams were sent out scouting the area to find survivors, some who were located in mud and debris. Buildings throughout the region crashed to the ground, including a church built over a century ago. People’s homes, stores and bridges also were damaged in Cebu.

As Reuters noted, one resident, Sonny Cuse said that he and his family escaped their home just in time as the massive quake hit.
“We thought we could have died today, but we’re thankful that we are all safe. I’m thankful to the Lord,” Cuse said.
This earthquake is one of many that we continue to see hit across the world. From earthquakes in Idaho to California, Myanmar and Thailand, there’s no question about it: we are seeing an increase in natural disasters as we race closer to the end of time.

From a biblical perspective, events like the devastating earthquake in Cebu serve as sobering reminders of the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:7–8: “There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” As the frequency and intensity of natural disasters increase worldwide, believers are called to remain vigilant, prayerful and anchored in the truth of God’s Word.
