Redford’s legacy as a cultural icon is undisputed. From “Butch Cassidy” and the “Sundance Kid” to “The Sting,” “Out of Africa,” and beyond, his artistry shaped American cinema for more than half a century. Yet behind the screen, Redford’s reflections on faith reveal a man who was searching for something greater than himself.

“I’ve explored every religion, some very deeply, enough to know there’s not one philosophy that can satisfy me. Problems can’t be solved with one way of thinking. If anything is my guide, nature is… “That’s where my spirituality is.” Redford once admitted in an interview.

Redford also spoke about what comes after death, saying, “As far as I know, this is it. It’s all we’ve got. You take your opportunities and you go for it.”

Redford met Pope Francis as an homage to his Irish Catholic heritage. Redford thanked Francis for his work on the environment. When Francis later asked for Redford to pray for him, he replied with the answer: “I do.”
