With his unmistakable voice, Michael Farren leads Pocket Full of Rocks on the new release, More Than Noise. Their third album speaks to the transforming power worship should have in our lives.
“A lot of what I’ve been sharing on the road deals with losing your religion and finding relationship with an amazing God,” Farren says.
“Much of our message is that you’ve got to make more than noise. It’s easy to just walk into a room, sing the songs on the screen and lift your hands; but if you can walk out and not be transformed or see the world around you transformed, then that wasn’t worship. Real worship comes with change, both in you, and the world around you. If you encounter a real God in a real setting of worship, you can’t leave the same.”
“Alive” passionately offers praise for the freedom we have because of Jesus’ grace and love. When listeners hear “Come as You Are” they will be captured by the opening words: “He’s not mad at you / And He’s not disappointed.” This song reminds us that we can come to Him without fear, no matter what we’ve done. Farren and his 14-year-old daughter, Madison, wrote “When Love Whispers Your Name,” which is “about grace, and what love does through it,” he says. The anthem “Let It Rain,” which was featured on Michael W. Smith’s Worship, was a song the band has only played live for 10 years. They had not intended to record it, but the timing was right to include it on this album.
Pocket Full of Rocks continues to minister with music that will help listeners express praise to God. But the band also challenges the church to let their worship be more than just singing. If we’re not being transformed and reaching the world, our worship is just noise.
