Montana Superintendent Says Critical Race Theory Isn’t Education; It’s Indoctrination

Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen is calling on Attorney General Austin Knudsen to respond to the legality of teaching critical race theory and “anti-racism” in state public schools, citing the possible violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In the official letter, Arntzen says the grant supporting the American History and Civics Education program raises “serious questions” about differential treatment towards students on the basis of race. She says this violates federal and state nondiscrimination laws.

“Our schools should not be teaching debunked theories that twist and distort our history, and fringe philosophies that Americans have consistently rejected,” Arntzen wrote.

“This is an effort, led by the highest office in the nation, to replace neutrality in teaching with slanted propaganda,” Arntzen says. “Our students should learn and appreciate the history of this country, flaws and all. But this isn’t education, it’s indoctrination.”
