from EthnoGraphic Media (EGM), has been nominated for the 2011 Reel Rose Award
for Best Documentary Film and The People’s Festival Award.
Additionally, it was selected as a featured film for the John Paul II
International Film Festival.
The festival, which will be held in south Florida, chose
“The Mystery of Love” as its theme this year. Little Town of Bethlehem
was selected from many submissions around the world reflecting the meaning of
love. The award ceremony will begin Feb. 26.
Produced by Mart Green, owner and founder of Mardel
Christian supply stores, and directed by Jim Hanon (End of the Spear),
the documentary chronicles the lives of three men—a Palestinian Muslim, a Palestinian
Christian and an Israeli Jew. Each was born into violence but is willing to
risk everything to bring peace.
Sami Awad, a Palestinian Christian,
is the executive director of Holy Land Trust, which promotes Palestinian
independence through peaceful measures. Yonatan Shapira, an Israeli Jew, is an
advocate for peace worldwide. Ahmad Al’ Azzeh, a Palestinian Muslim, leads the
nonviolence program at Holy Land Trust.
Award-winning
director Hanon says of the film’s viewpoint: “Little Town of Bethlehem
doesn’t focus on who’s right or who’s wrong. Rather, it shows what it truly
means and ultimately takes to love one’s enemies. Images of men, women and
children standing firm in the face of overwhelming opposition are as
inspirational as the words, thoughts and actions of Martin Luther King Jr. and
Mahatma Gandhi that Sami, Yonatan and Ahmad each recalled during filming.
However, Little Town of Bethlehem doesn’t just inspire viewers. It also
raises an important question—‘Might love be the greatest weapon of all?’”
