Tammie Head

At 15 years old, Tammie Head, high on drugs, looked in the mirror and tried to work up the strength to go back on stage and do her job as a stripper. With her past of repeated sexual abuse, she didn’t believe God could want her. “How could He?” she reasoned. She even tried to commit suicide.

But God’s love ruined Tammie, pulling her out of the nightclub and into church. As His forgiveness tore down her walls of self-defense, He gave her a passion for His Word and a desire to share it with others.

Now she is traveling the U.S., ministering to broken women and teaching God’s plan of redemption and the glorious freedom of living with an all-consuming passion for Jesus. Her latest book, More: From Messes to Miracles, tells her story of how God rescued and healed her, turning her sin-filled mess into a walking testimony of God’s grace.

Tammie first sensed God’s calling to public ministry while speaking at a women’s prayer breakfast in 1997. “For the first time in my life, I saw scores of hurting women,” Tammie says. “In the church, no less!”

She also serves orphaned children in Africa. When her oldest daughter, Peyton, felt called to the African mission field, Tammie didn’t argue with her. Instead of trying to keep her daughter home, she and the rest of the family went with Peyton.

Paulina, an orphan Tammie’s team found in the African slums, is an example of a life transformed. Her leg was infected because a witch doctor suggested her caretaker apply a “potion” of ground-up cow bones to an open wound. But the missionary team provided Paulina with healing prayer and a warm place to live at the Tree of Life Children’s Village.

“We’ve watched God step into the lives of some of the world’s most destitute, demonically inflicted children,” Tammie says, “and by His miraculous power, the Lord has transformed them … .”
