Spirit-Filled Rabbi: It’s Time to Jump In!

Rabbi Kirt Schneider

“The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His” (2 Chron. 16:9a, NASB 1995).

Beloved, God is watching us. He is looking for those who will sanctify their hearts and become fully dedicated to Him. Father desires to deposit in us all that He wants to give from the riches of His grace.

He dearly loves each one of us and is searching for those of us who will love Him back. How aware are we?

The reason I am focusing on the concept of awareness is because of an alarming trend that is happening in society today: People are quickly losing their sense of awareness. Many have become so distracted with materialism and this age of modern technology that they have become focused only on their world, losing their spiritual awareness.

Beloved, if you and I are going to find God in the deepest way and become totally devoted to Him, we will need to unplug from the world. If we are going to find Him in a more meaningful way so that rivers of living water can well up through us, we are going to have to spend time alone with God looking to Him, meditating, praying and talking to Him. If we do not stop and take time to develop a deep relationship between the Lord and ourselves where there is nothing distracting us, we will go through life with our oars only three inches deep in the water.

“When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded” (Ezek. 47: 3-5).

What will we do with our lives? God has given us a free will. Do we pursue the things of the world, stay on the shores of comfort or do we jump into the water of the Holy Spirit? Beloved, let us be the ones who choose to devote ourselves to becoming totally aware of God and to developing the capacity to receive the deep things of God. Let us be like Ezekiel and keep going deeper into the water of God’s Spirit.

Beloved, what the world offers can never satisfy us. What we all have to realize is that true and lasting divine satisfaction and joy only come from entering the depths of His Spirit. If you and I are going to cultivate this, it will take discipline, work and focus. We are going to have to make it our intent—above all else—to develop our relationship with God.

HaShem is a Hebrew way of saying “God,” and literally means “the name.” God has no beginning. He has no end. He is beyond defining. He is outside of our capacity to completely comprehend. Do not misunderstand; we know Him in the depths of our being and through His Word. However, we will never know all that He is because He is unlimited. God is boundless.

Consider that the angels in heaven are continuously falling before the throne of the Lord, crying out, “Holy, holy, holy (Isa. 6: 3).” The angels are doing this because they keep on getting hit with a new wave of God’s glory; every time they get exposed to a new wave of His glory they call out, “Holy”—it overwhelms them because it is so fresh and so weighty. God is always a brand-new thing. He is eternal life.

Beloved, God is so worthy of our pursuit!

“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13-14).

I want to encourage us to become aware, to think and walk in the spirit—to pursue the things of the Spirit. Beloved, God wants to bring us into a new place. Where is this new place? It is a new place in Him!

Be assured that there is always a fresh place in Him. We are on a voyage. We are on a journey. Let us continually be going deeper into the realms of the Spirit, into eternal life, as we put Him first. Remember, God is watching, and He is looking for us to become wholly devoted to Him.

Jump in—the water is glorious!

“The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God” (Ps. 14:2).
