Renowned author and preacher Dr. R.T. Kendall says if there were ever a time where believers needed to read 2 Timothy Chapter 4, it’s now.
Even in these chaotic times, Kendall see more and more people turn away from who God really is and opting to hear a gospel that will “tickle their ears.” In other words, Kendall says, many churchgoers simply hear what they want to hear, and they are being deceived.
It’s the subject of the 85-year-old evangelist’s new book, Is Your God Too Nice?
“We are living in a day where people don’t want to hear what they need to hear,” Kendall told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “In Paul’s last letter to Timothy, he said the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine. But there will be those who have itching ears and who will find teachers who will tell them what they want to hear instead of the truth.
“What I’m telling you is to find someone who just preaches the gospel. We’re in a time where people are simply saying, ‘What’s in it for me?’ No one has ever asked, ‘What’s in it for God?’ In my remaining years, I’ve sought to be God-centered and to ask the question, ‘What’s in it for God?’
“People seem to want a nice God, one that they are comfortable with; one that will not harm them or say anything to upset them. … What I’m trying to do is to bring us back to a sense of the fear of God. On the day of Pentecost, ‘great fear came upon them all,’ and this is what characterized the early church. Even when Jesus would perform a miracle, the placed would be filled. It’s all so different today. That’s why I’m raising the question, ‘Is your God too nice?’ Are you sure this is the God of the Bible that you’re supposedly worshipping?
