A Comforting Truth to Cling to While You Journey ‘Between the Straits’

Although we are in the period known as “between the straits” (a period of mourning commemorating the destruction of the first and second Jewish temples), we are not alone.

Yes, it is a tight place, a narrow place—a place where we can’t bring along the things, the people or other “comforts” we would normally hang on to. But we are not alone. That is a lie and tactic the enemy uses to cause us to doubt the goodness of the Lord.

The truth and reality are this: The Lord is for us and not against us (Rom. 8:31).

He will never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5). He gave us His Holy Spirit to reside in us 24/7, forever sealed in our heart. That is the reality for those of us in Christ (John 14:16; Eph. 1:13-14).

The place of the straits is not a place where God is withholding things from us, but is actually a place where He is giving us what we really need—and that is Himself. It’s a protected, transforming passage of time that can be a shortcut if we have eyes to see and hears to hear.

So, as we sail on through the straits with Abba here in the month of Av, let us renew our hearts with this promise He gave to Isaiah and He gives to us afresh today:

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you pass through waters, I will be with you” (Isa. 43:1b-2a).

Let us go forth believing and abiding in Abba, for He is with us! {eoa}
