Chris August | Fervent Records

Chris August didn’t always know he wanted to be in music. In fact, as a youngster he wanted to play in the NBA. His dreams fell through, however, “because of asthma … and a lack of talent,” August said.

It wasn’t until he became a Christian as a teenager that his love for worship music surfaced. “My faith was growing and so were my musical abilities,” he said. While he’s been in music for a while, even touring with Ashlee Simpson, August is finally releasing his debut album, No Far Away, today. The album is touching and relevant, and August isn’t afraid to write about his faith as well as heartache.

Even so, the song “7×70” wasn’t easy to write. After working with producer Ed Cash on his album, Cash told August he still felt like No Far Away still needed more of a personal touch.

The song “7×70” was birthed from that conversation. August said it’s “without a doubt the most personal song I had ever taken on, and it required a mind set on prayer.”

August writes about the pain of his past, but his music brings hope as he sings: “Seven times 70 times / I’ll do what it takes to make it right / I thought the pain was here to stay / but forgiveness made a way.”

The single “Starry Night,” which was released in May, reminds us that God-who made the stars, sun and moon-is in control of everything: “I’m giving my life to the only one who makes the moon reflect the sun. Every starry night, that was His design. … Let the praises ring ‘cause He is everything.”
