What to Do When God Doesn’t Make Sense to You

I have noticed that God seldom works exactly the way I would. I have also discovered that His clock seems to tell time different than mine does, so He rarely works in the timeframe that I expect either. Can you relate?

I still look back to the year 2014 and shake my head. The second half of the year was challenging. In June, my brother-in-law passed away from cancer. Minutes before his funeral, we received a call that radically and traumatically impacted one of our children and changed the course of their life. Approximately one month later, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, and before 2014 wrapped up, we were at her funeral service.

Many people are in a season right now, as we have ushered in 2021, where we have more questions than answers. We thought that we had it all figured out, and yet, here we are. We look out at a different landscape than we expected.

We can end up shaking our heads at God because He doesn’t seem to make sense. In those moments, the theological debates do not make sense and do not help. The unanswered questions leave us wondering, and some will even walk away from their faith.

As we navigate the thoughts and feelings, we must fight to maintain our stance on who our God is amid the questions, anger, frustration and even unbelief. There is a unique tension that resides in this season, leaving us between the possible and the impossible.

When what we see in the mirror is dim, where do we turn? How do we handle the moments when God does not make sense? Join us for this week’s Real Truth with Ruth as we ponder When God Doesn’t Make Sense. {eoa}
