Is God Sending a Message of Hope to America?

Although I am a believer, not a skeptic, I’m a thinking believer. I’m not impressed with the “discovery” of the face of Jesus in a piece of wood. Or the map of America appearing in a bowl of melting ice cream.

My Ph.D. is in ancient Semitic texts and languages, and I look for hard data. For facts rather than speculation.

But certain things do get my attention. How could they not? I do my best to go with the evidence.

How a Great Awakening Turned America’s Founding Fathers Against Slavery

America’s Founders are under attack. Their monuments are being toppled and their names removed from schools and other public buildings.

Children are being taught that George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were evil, rich slaveowners who formed this nation to protect their wealth and maintain the institution of slavery.

This twisted history of America is dividing and destroying her. The truth is that at a time when slavery was being practiced in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and many parts of the world, America’s founders turned against it. Dr. Thomas Sowell, who happens to be black, has written about this, saying:

7 Ways to Teach Your Kids About the Meaning of Fourth of July

Children love celebrating birthdays. Each year American families are invited to join in commemorating the important event leading to the official birth of our nation.

On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers chose to take a stand against the control of an English king who desired to add the colonists’ hard-earned pennies to his pocket through taxation, though he cared little about their families’ needs. Our brave pioneers of liberty, determined to live and worship as they knew God was leading and knowing that their tax dollars were needed on their own side of the ocean, officially declared good riddance to oppressive foreign rule in resolving to be “free and independent States … absolved from all allegiance to the British crown.”

In penning these words, the Continental Congress essentially shouted to the world, “Happy Birthday, America!” At 241 years later, it’s still party time.
