In recent weeks, members of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, have sent nearly 50,000 emails to Members of Congress encouraging them to support foreign aid to Israel.

The emails were sent as part of two separate action alerts concerning aid to Israel. The first was prompted by Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) comments on CNN that he would seek to eliminate aid to Israel. In the weeks since the Senator’s statement, CUFI members have sent his office more than 34,000 emails demanding that the Senator abandon this position.

Then last week, CUFI members sprang into action once again when news broke that Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) intended to submit an amendment to 2011

spending legislation that would eliminate aid to Israel. CUFI members sent more than 12,000 emails to their Members of Congress in under 12 hours asking that they oppose this measure before CUFI announced that Ron Paul had pulled his amendment.

“Our lawmakers need to know that their constituents back home are paying attention to what goes on in our nation’s capitol, and that the overwhelming majority of their constituents believe that standing with Israel – in both word and deed – is a strategic and moral imperative,” says David Brog, CUFI’s executive director.

“In addition, Republicans need to be reminded that the Paul family does not speak for conservatives in America. When they seek to cut our deficit, the Pauls are representing the large conservative majority. When they attempt to abandon our ally Israel in order to achieve this goal, however, they represent only a small isolationist fringe.”
