My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. —Proverbs 2:1-5
Why does our society have such an irreverent and lowly view of God? The answer is simple. The church has not proclaimed it! The church’s concept of God is much too small. The glory of God’s personhood has not been clearly proclaimed to our generation. But when even the faintest light of God’s surpassing greatness dawns upon our minds, we will walk carefully before Him as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
Father, help me to reverence Your name and never to trivialize Your power and might. Teach me to praise You as the Creator and God of the universe.
For many Christians Jesus is more like Santa Claus
or a pop psychologist than the holy Other who will
judge heaven and Earth by His Word.
