Andrew Peterson | Centricity Records

Singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson didn’t intend to get so personal on his new, 12-song project, Counting Stars—but that’s what happened, and he doesn’t disappoint.

With humility and vulnerability, Peterson writes from the heart, and his music is almost conversational. While many of the songs are specific to him, listeners can relate to the lyrics of love, friendship, hope, redemption and beauty.

“This album grew into something I couldn’t foresee and didn’t intend,” Peterson says. “Instead of starting with a concept and following it like a map, I just wrote whatever found its way out of my heart and head.”

With the help of friends and fellow songwriters Andy Gullahorn and Ben Shive, Peterson spent eight days in the barren hills of Washington state to record Counting Stars-titled as it “ties the themes of relationship and hope together in the hope of God’s promise to Abraham,” he says.

The peace and serenity Peterson felt while recording is well expressed through the acoustic sounds and his smooth voice.

As a family man, one of Peterson’s favorite songs, World Traveler, which is also sure to be a hit with listeners, reminds everyone to realize that every day is an adventure, but we don’t have to leave home to experience it.

“Life is just as much an adventure if you’re a family man as it is if you’re a pirate on the high seas. Every human you meet is a great mystery,” he says.
