Why the Church Must Restore Its Prophetic Voice in This Hour

The late John Wesley once said the following, “My fear is not that our great movement known as the Methodists will eventually cease to exist or one day die from the earth. My fear is that our people will become content to live without the fire, the power, the excitement, the supernatural element that makes us great.”

John Wesley had a deep desire for the Methodists to maintain their passion for the Lord as well as their effectiveness for eternity’s sake on the earth. The truth is that historically the Methodist church was once a powerful evangelistic force that was responsible for shaping continents for the glory of God. Their reach was fueled by an unquenchable fire and prophetic thrust that prompted them to advance God’s kingdom through great power and demonstration.

Sadly, as with many church movements and institutions, John Wesley’s fears have come true within a large portion of the movement that he birthed. The once vibrant and powerful Methodist Church has now even come to a place where they are debating whether or not to ordain homosexuals into the ministry. The fact is John Wesley most likely never even imagined this level of backsliding; however, this is where his movement finds itself today.

As with John Wesley’s role in the 18th century, it is incumbent upon us as the church to become a prophetic interruption. We cannot sit back and watch an entire nation free fall into hell while remaining silent. We cannot watch the church in America continue to falter and become weaker and weaker with no prophetic voice. Now is the time to awaken and arise!

Every generation seems to experience prophetic stirrings with apostolic intentions. The Lord then begins to arrest the hearts of the humble and the hungry, and it is those individuals that He will begin to burn through with kingdom strategy. Therefore, it is important for us to understand our role as the church in this hour.

Join me this week on my Maintain the Flame podcast as I share on the subject of A Prophetic Interruption. On this episode, I talk about the spiritual climate and condition of the church as a whole. I also share about current dynamics facing America and the world and how that the church must have her prophetic voice restored in this hour. Listen to be challenged and encouraged in your walk with the Lord. {eoa}
