How This Movie Producer Made God His ‘Production Partner’

From the beginning of his career, producer Darren Moorman (Run the Race, Same Kind of Different As Me) says he really felt as though God had called him to a specific genre and caliber of filmmaking unlike any other in Hollywood.

Since the brand the Lord wanted to cultivate in Moorman’s new company was so unique, he says at the start of his career he “literally went 18 months without a paycheck—married and two kids and passed up on two high-paying producer jobs,” because they weren’t the things that he “was supposed to be doing.”

Across Moorman’s 20 years in the industry, Host Shawn Bolz recognizes how he has purposed his heart to be set apart as a producer and tries to see each movie or TV set as a unique space in which the Lord can work.

Bolz says, “Most people are transactional; they just want their job done.” But Bolz highlights the fact that Moorman sees his work as part of God’s mission field and has a “pastoral heart.” Bolz shares how this manifests itself in the films Moorman creates. “There’s an element of the favor of God’ there’s an element of what God can do, when you’re walking with Him in the projects,” Bolz says.

Moorman recalls a time in which a project was set to be filmed in Israel, and the entire cast and crew were already on location. But the actor originally slated to play the lead fell through, and Moorman was left to rely on God’s provision of a new leading man. Through His guidance, Moorman’s team offered the part to an actor they originally thought would be out of their budget. This man ultimately blessed them by his eager acceptance.

This episode of Exploring the Prophetic With Shawn Bolz on the Charisma Podcast Network is chock-full of stories of God’s provision over Moorman’s decade-plus time in the film industry that will leave you feeling inspired to see God as your “production partner” too. {eoa}
