The Anti-Israel Movement: ‘Down With the Evil Colonizers’

What moved hundreds of thousands of people around the world to support the Black Lives Matter cause? Was it a bleeding heart for Black Americans? Or did something else animate this global phenomenon? Today, we can ask in a similar spirit, “What unites tens of millions worldwide around the Free Palestine cause?” Is it a heart of compassion for the needs of the Palestinians? Or is something else animating this global phenomenon?

When it comes to the latter, there is no question that hatred of the state of Israel, and more broadly, hatred of the Jewish people, helps animate the pro-Palestinian cause. If people really cared about the Palestinians themselves, there would not be Palestinian refugee camps in countries like Lebanon and Syria, and the Palestinians would have been granted full citizenship in the surrounding Arab countries at some point after the 1948 war.

When it comes to Black Americans, since when have the other nations that joined in the BLM protests, such as South Korea, Bulgaria, Denmark and many others, cared about the plight of Black Americans? Since when was alleged American police brutality a point of concern for the international community? Surely there is no international concern about the plight of suffering Blacks in other parts of the world, such as Nigeria, where tens of thousands of Black Christians have been slaughtered in recent years.

No, there is something else that animates these worldwide protests, something that unifies these widely disparate cultures and peoples, straight out of the Marxist playbook.

As explained by Jeff Fynn-Paul in his bookNot Stolen: The Truth About European Colonialism in the New World“:

The origins of today’s radical anti-Europeanism—the same anti-Europeanism that has gone mainstream in the past few years—lie in the intellectual ferment of the 1960s and ’70s. As New Left campus Marxism reached a high-water mark in the 1970s, Marxist historians began a concerted assault on the foundations of American history. The problem with American history from their perspective was that it made capitalism look too good: American democracy empowered the people; its melting pot welcomed everyone, albeit not without serious friction, and its economic system rewarded hard work more often than not. Marxist historians therefore determined to rewrite American history to show their version of the “truth”: that America was a “system rooted in unrelenting oppression.”

This view was popularized by the radical American historian Howard Zinn. As Fynn-Paul explains:

In Zinn’s view, history always consists of precisely two groups: the oppressor and the oppressed. The “system” perpetuates conflict between these two groups, ensuring the domination of one group over another. In Zinn’s pessimistic view, oppression rather than freedom was the very foundation of the United States and its Constitution.

Thus, critical feminist scholars “discovered” that history revolved around males oppressing females, while critical race theorists discovered that history revolved around the oppression and slavery of black people by white people. Post-colonial theorists accordingly discovered that history revolved around the oppression of Indigenous People by Europeans. Soon, critical “intersectionality” theorists lumped all these identity-based oppressions together, discovering that wealthy, straight, white European males were the ultimate oppressors in history, while poor, black, gay or gender-fluid Indigenous women of color were the ultimate victims.

Put another way, “Down with the evil colonizers! Down with the oppressor class!”

The connection to Israel is not hard to see, as the Jewish people are portrayed as European colonizers and oppressors, the evil intruders who displaced the native peoples of Palestine. Add to this a little antisemitism to help fuel the fires, just as a little anti-Americanism helped fuel the worldwide BLM protests, and you have an explosion.

To be clear, Fynn-Paul does not deny the sins of our European forebears, writing:

Though we now find it difficult to believe, the extent of European cruelty toward Native Americans was well researched and publicized before the rise of social media. Thus it was common knowledge among historians that Europeans were responsible for population decline, forced conversions, provoking wars, countless treaty violations, the Trail of Tears, the California Indian massacres, the extinction of the buffalo, racial prejudice and discrimination, confinement on reservations and continued marginalization of many Native groups.

He simply pushes back against highly biased, academically imbalanced reconstructions of American history. Similarly, sound historians today do not paint an entirely blameless picture of the state of Israel. They simply resist the distorted, even propagandistic retelling of recent Middle Eastern history.

As Fynn-Paul notes with regard to rewriting American history, “These narratives have been filling the minds of Western journalists, bureaucrats, and politicians with the same old 1970s theories, dressed in alluring new clothes.” (For an in-depth treatment of the impact of Marxist ideology on America today, see Christopher Rufo, “America’s Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left Conquered Everything.”)

That’s why Kyle Morris was right to note that “The anti-Israel movement roiling major American cities and college campuses following the outbreak of Israel’s war with Hamas bears a striking resemblance to other movements favored by social justice activists, experts suggest.”

And Morris quoted Rufo, who said, “The left-wing academics who have been cheering on violent ‘decolonization’ against Jews have been pushing the same hideous rhetoric against ‘whiteness’ for years. Same ideology. Same hatred. Same bloodlust.”

Absolutely, undeniably true.

Rufo pointed out that the “academic left treat the Hamas fighter as a noble savage who symbolizes revolt against the West and through whom the academic can experience the thrill of violence.” And he explained that “The fighter is seen as the physical embodiment of the jargon: ‘decolonization,’ ‘resistance,’ ‘power.’ Time to connect the dots and fight it together.”

Tine to connect the dots indeed. And time to fight back together, with the truth serving as our most powerful weapon. {eoa}

Christian Singer Mac Powell Tried Country, But Says He Knew He’d Come Back to Jesus Music

When Mac Powell left his role as the frontman for the Christian band Third Day, he tried his hand at country—an itch he’d been eager to scratch for years—but ultimately, he said, it left him unfulfilled.

The “Soul on Fire” singer-songwriter recently spoke with CBN Digital about how his career has evolved since Third Day—a Grammy-winning mainstay in the Christian rock genre—disbanded in 2018 after 25 years together.

When he first left Third Day, Powell did something he’d always wanted to do: he made a country album.

“That was like scratching an itch I had for a long time,” he explained. “Once Third Day was over, I finally had a chance to do that, but I always knew I was gonna be in Christian music. That’s where I feel comfortable. I love singing about Jesus and sharing my faith through my music.”

Powell released his first solo Christian album, “New Creation,” in 2021. The success of that record ultimately led the 50-year-old singer to launch a tour, and he’s been on the road since.

He is finishing up a fall tour and, after Thanksgiving week, will join K-LOVE’s “Celebrate Christmas” tour beginning Nov. 29. And, starting early next year, Powell will join fellow Christian artist TobyMac on his “Hits Deep” tour, featuring other singers like Jon Reddick, Cory Asbury, and Tasha Layton.

U.S. Churches Facing Legal Battles for Community Service

In the midst of a broader debate over religious freedom in the United States, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has weighed in on a legal clash in Oregon, highlighting concerns about the restriction of church activities.

St. Timothy’s church in Brookings, Oregon, finds itself in a legal struggle with the city over an ordinance that limits the church’s provision of free meals to those in need. The DOJ, through Kristen Clarke of the Civil Rights Division, emphasized the potential violation of federal antidiscrimination laws and the infringement on religious organizations’ use of their land.

“Many churches and faith-based organizations across the country are on the front lines serving the critical needs of people experiencing hunger and homelessness,” Clarke explains. “Discriminatory zoning restrictions that burden and limit religious organizations’ use of their land violate federal antidiscrimination laws. The Justice Department is committed to enforcing federal civil rights laws to ensure that all religious groups can freely exercise their religious beliefs.”

The heart of the matter revolves around the city’s decision to restrict the church’s charitable activities, claiming the ordinance aims to control the frequency of free meal services provided by St. Timothy’s. The church, backed by the Episcopal Diocese in Oregon, argues that such restrictions impose a substantial burden on its faith-driven mission of compassion and offering assistance.

The legal battle hinges on the interpretation of the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). The DOJ contends that the city’s actions may violate RLUIPA, a law designed to safeguard religious institutions from discriminatory land use regulations.

St. Timothy’s asserts that, for over a decade, it provided meal services up to six days per week, including during the challenges posed by the pandemic. The church maintains that its commitment to serving the community is an integral aspect of its religious exercise.

The city, however, challenges the applicability of RLUIPA to its actions and asserts that the ordinance does not significantly burden St. Timothy’s religious activities.

In times when religious freedom is a subject of growing concern for American Christians, legal disputes like these reflect a broader societal shift. The Bible forewarns of challenges to Christians, stating, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you,” (John 15:18). The apostle Paul encourages believers to endure persecution, stating, “Yes, and all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution,” (2 Tim. 3:12).

In navigating these challenges, the biblical perspective encourages Christians to stand firm in their faith. As Jesus advises in Matthew 5:10, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The ongoing legal battle between St. Timothy’s church and the city of Brookings underscores the complex interplay between religious freedom, community service and legal restrictions. As the debate unfolds, American Christians face an increasingly delicate balance between their faith’s convictions and societal expectations.

Unlocking Spiritual Power: The Transformative Impact of Fasting with Pastor Jentezen Franklin

Sitting down with Charisma magazine for an exclusive “Beyond the Article” interview, Pastor Jentezen Franklin shares how he became aware of the transformative power behind prayer and fasting.

Raised in a preacher’s home, Pastor Franklin shares his early experiences with fasting, witnessing his parents example through prayer and fasting. Reflecting on these memories, he emphasizes the importance of fasting in aligning oneself with God’s will, sharing personal encounters during a pivotal three-day fast in college.

“Fasting is about us coming in alignment with God’s will. It’s not about what I can get out of God; it’s about giving more of ourselves to Him,” Franklin says.

Recalling moments of deep prayer and sensitivity during fasting, Franklin draws parallels between physical discipline and spiritual discipline. He likens the process to losing one sense, allowing others to intensify, aligning with the biblical principle of becoming more attuned to God’s voice.

“When I knelt down the presence of God overwhelmed me. There’s something about fasting that just makes you sensitive, it makes you open, it makes you broken. It makes you anointed, [with] ears to hear your spiritual ears get bigger,” Franklin explains.

Moving beyond the physical benefits, Franklin discusses the spiritual impact of fasting on the spirit, soul and body. He emphasizes the biblical precedent of fasting, citing examples from Jesus, Elijah, Moses and Paul.

“Fasting hits all three aspects of our being: it fine-tunes our spirit, renews our mind and brings our flesh under control,” Franklin notes.

Reflecting on the recent revival at Free Chapel, Franklin attributes it to a 21-day fast where families were symbolically placed on the altar through submitted pictures. The focus on youth and backsliders brought forth a powerful move of the Holy Spirit, with many experiencing salvation and spiritual renewal.

“We could not get the people in the buildings. And the thing that touched me the most was it was centered around two things: We had fasted and we prayed for our young people, and that the backsliders would come home and that there would be an outpouring on the sons and the daughters of the Holy Spirit. Baptism, speaking in other tongues, as the Spirit gave the utterance, and I’m telling you, we saw hundreds and hundreds and hundreds. I could not even count how many were saved and backsliders came back home,” Franklin shares.

Encouraging those unfamiliar with fasting, Franklin recommends education and preparation, suggesting resources and materials to understand its biblical significance. Stressing the communal aspect, he advises against fasting alone, suggesting a sunup-to-sundown approach.

“Fasting says to God, ‘I’m sincere. I mean business. I believe in You, and I’m turning with all of my heart to You.’ It’s a powerful way to show God that you’re serious,” Franklin asserts.

Pastor Franklin underscores that fasting isn’t about getting more from God but about giving more of oneself to Him. “You don’t get more of God; God gets more of you,” he declares, encouraging believers to embrace fasting as a sincere pursuit of God’s will and transformation in their lives. {eoa}

Mysterious ‘Witch Bottles’ Wash Ashore: Spiritual Hazard or Harmless Artifact?

Superstitious beachcombers wandering along the Gulf of Mexico shores may encounter an eerie discovery—gleaming glass that beckons caution. These are not mere trinkets; they are “witch bottles” believed to trap malevolent spirits, emerging along the coastal stretch near Corpus Christi, Texas, as reported by researcher Jace Tunnell.

Since 2017, eight of these mysterious artifacts have washed ashore on a monitored 60-mile beach, prompting intrigue and concern. The most recent discovery, pulled by Tunnell on Nov. 15, contained vegetation and gooseneck barnacles, indicating a prolonged journey adrift.

“I don’t get creeped out by them, but I’m also not going to open them,” shared Tunnell, acknowledging the perceived spells residing within. His reluctance echoes a cautious approach in the face of the unknown: “Why take the chance?”

Instead of unlocking the secrets within, Tunnell has opted to showcase these occult finds on his back fence, respecting his wife’s limit—”shells inside, but no spell bottles.”

These bottles, filled with an array of items such as hair, herbs, local plants, nails or bodily fluids, have a historical presence in the United Kingdom. McGill University’s Office of Science and Society reports nearly 200 such bottles recovered there, hidden in walls or buried underground.

In centuries past, belief in witches and their harmful spells was powerful. These “witch bottles,” when properly prepared, could reflect the spell and torment of the witch, compelling them to lift the curse and facilitate the victim’s recovery.

The Bible, in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, explicitly warns against practices associated with witchcraft: “There must not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or who uses divination, or uses witchcraft, or an interpreter of omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts spells, or a spiritualist, or an occultist, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination to the Lord…”

The William & Mary Center for Archaeological Research adds that bottles containing metal items, like nails, might be buried strategically to “energize the nails into breaking a witch’s spell.” Various burial locations, from the hearth to corners of a property or even a dung pile, were observed in different traditions.

While fewer than a dozen remnants of this practice have been discovered in the U.S., Tunnell and his colleagues remain uncertain about the origin of these spell bottles. Some may come from distinct “real thin yellow vinegar bottles” made in Haiti, hinting at a potential connection to the Caribbean or South America.

For those who chance upon a “witch bottle,” guidance from the Museum of London Archeology is clear. Whether left on the beach or taken home, the stopper should remain corked. This advice applies whether the intent is to contain spirits or to avoid potential biohazards within.

As Christians, this mysterious phenomenon reminds us to remain discerning in the face of spiritual dangers. Be cautious, guided by biblical principles (Eph. 5:11), and mindful of the occult forces at play.

Morning Rundown: Monster Unleashed: Skillet’s John Cooper Takes a Stand Against Cultural Compromise

Here’s a quick rundown of the top stories on charismamag.com:

Monster Unleashed: Skillet’s John Cooper Takes a Stand Against Cultural Compromise

In a recent interview with Charisma News, Skillet frontman, John Cooper, both a musician and author, delved into the complexities of our ever-changing culture. Cooper’s insights, drawn from his experiences and observations, are captured in his upcoming book, “Wimpy, Weak, and Woke: How Truth Can Save America from Utopian Destruction.”

The conversation touched upon the challenges of addressing the cultural shifts and moral dilemmas facing society today. Cooper expressed concern about the prevailing ideologies influencing both the secular world and the church, leading to what he terms as being “wimpy, weak and woke.”

“I think we are to the place now where most people are like, ‘OK, things are getting pretty weird.’ …Most people see these things happening now and they’re just saying, ‘What is going on?’ and I wanted to write a book that encapsulated all of those things under the rubric of being wimpy, weak and woke,” Cooper explains.

End-Times Reminder: He Is Coming!

“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation'” (Lev. 23:24, NASB).

All of God’s appointed holy days have dual applications: first in their original historical context to Israel, and second as they relate to their ultimate fulfillment in Messiah Jesus.

What is the ultimate and prophetic message of the Feast of Trumpets? Again, we find in Leviticus that it was “a reminder by the blowing of trumpets.” So, we ask ourselves, what should the blowing of the trumpet remind us of?

Steven Curtis Chapman’s Symphony of Faith and Hope to Premiere on TBN

In a candid, exclusive interview with Charisma magazine, Steven Curtis Chapman reflected on the significance of his recently recorded concert performance, which marked a celebration of his 50, No. 1 hit songs and 20 years of his organization, Show Hope.

“I think moments though like this, you know, to celebrate a milestone, a mile marker in the journey, really are just one more opportunity to just be humbled, to be reminded that it’s all God,” Chapman said. “That God is good, that He has been faithful, that I get to sing about what is eternally true.”

The concert, which airs on TBN today, Nov. 24, features Chapman’s collaboration with an orchestra to deliver beautiful arrangements of his chart-topping hits. These hits remind Chapman, with great humility and thanks to God, of the journey he has had over the years, including the time of pressure when he was unsure about the future of his musical career. Instead, this would be the time God would use to renew his strength and provide a testimony that would touch millions through “The Great Adventure.”

Prophet Charlie Shamp Shares Vision of 46th President With ‘Feet Made of Clay’

As the world is consumed by wars and rumors of more wars going through what appear to be birthing pains, Christians take note: the Lord said these things would be happening, and that it would get worse.

Yet in the darkness of a world that is rejecting God in new ways each day, there is a promise of hope and an outpouring of God that is to wash across the barren earth.

Acts 2 tells of the words spoken by the prophet Joel, saying that we can expect amazing revelations given by the power of the Holy Spirit to those living through these times where rejection of our Maker is increasing in frequency and severity.

Controversial Pentecostal Bishop Carlton Pearson Dies at 70

Pentecostal Bishop Carlton Pearson, once the pastor of the one of the largest churches in Tulsa, Oklahoma, died at 70 on Sunday, Nov. 19, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He had been under hospice care since early November.

During the 1990s, Pearson’s church in Tulsa, Higher Dimensions Church, reached an average attendance of 6,000. In 1994, however, after watching a television program about the “wretched conditions” of people suffering and dying from genocide in Rwanda, and considering the teaching of his church that non-Christians were going to hell, Pearson revealed that he had received an epiphany from God and stated publicly that he doubted the existence of hell as a place of eternal torment.

He said that hell was created on earth by human depravity and behavior.

God Adjusted My Ungratefulness in a Garbage Dump in India

I’ve seen some awful poverty during my previous trips to India, so I wasn’t shocked when I drove with Prasanna to this makeshift village constructed from cardboard boxes, tattered blankets, wooden crates and discarded metal. But I didn’t expect to see so many small children in this dreadful place. Many of them didn’t have any clothes. They all looked malnourished.

Then I met Kodayya and Kalyan, two teenage boys who spend their days scrounging through the massive piles of trash looking for plastic bottles to recycle. On most days, many younger children also work in the dump. They wear cloth masks to protect themselves from the toxic fumes billowing from the smoldering garbage, but I knew the masks were useless.

Christ the Redeemer Illuminated for Taylor Swift’s Tour Raises Questions

The recent illumination of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate Taylor Swift’s tour has ignited discussions about the appropriateness of using a symbol of Jesus Christ for secular purposes.

While the initiative aimed to bring joy to fans and coincide with the World Day of the Poor (by collecting donations of food and water for the needy), it raises questions about the alignment of such practices with biblical teachings on the sanctity and holiness of God.

One key consideration is the nature of Taylor Swift’s music, which has been known to incorporate new age and occult themes in her music videos. The Bible warns against participating in practices contrary to God’s holiness and calls believers to focus on what is pure, lovely and praiseworthy (see Phil. 4:8). Using a statue of Jesus Christ to celebrate an artist known for such themes raises concerns about whether it honors the Lord who sacrificed His life for mankind’s sins.

This Satanic Ritual Is Exploding in American Popularity

There is no sugarcoating this: America is in deep, deep spiritual darkness. If she continues down this track of satanic and demonic practice, she will see the Lord’s hand removed completely, and suffer greatly for it.

Need proof of the decline in America? Look no further than a recent piece in Cosmopolitan magazine which defends and promotes this abhorrent satanic ritual.

Working in conjunction with The Satanic Temple, Cosmo promotes TST’s abortion ritual to their millions of followers. Abortion itself is not new to the U.S., but performing it by way of satanic ritual in one’s own home is taking an already deadly practice and making it worse.

Lecrae Shares Testimony of Deconstruction to Find Greater Faith in Christ

In a newly released video, Christian rapper and music artist Lecrae shared his powerful testimony of deconstruction and how he ultimately found his way to a greater and more in-depth relationship with Jesus.

After struggling with the sentiments of evangelicalism during varying cultural events, Lecrae realized that some topics are more politically-charged and polarizing than what he believes should be. He also began to notice that religiosity is, in many ways, a bigger stronghold over the Christian community than actual fear or desire for the Lord. Instead, he warns that many times what people are after instead is a production.

“We see people showing up on Sunday to come to a play or a Broadway presentation,” Lecrae said. “They’re disconnected from one another. There’s not really genuine fellowship; you don’t know if you’ll see the same people from week-to-week.”

Morning Rundown: The Pilgrims’ Devastating Experiment With Socialism

Here’s a quick rundown of the top stories on cn.mycharisma.com:

The Pilgrims’ Devastating Experiment With Socialism

Before Marx, the Soviet Union, Cuba and Venezuela, socialism was tried here on American soil by the Pilgrims, and it miserably failed.

The Pilgrims were funded in their journey by a group of English businessmen, who required them to live communally for seven years until their debt was repaid with interest. This meant that there was no private ownership and there were no rewards for individual labor.

Instead, everyone worked fields owned by the plantation. The harvest went into a common fund from which each family received an equal portion for their sustenance. The remainder was used to pay their debt. The same was true of goods and money obtained by fishing and trapping furs. The wealth was spread around and evenly distributed.

Christian School Fights Vermont Exclusion in Religious Freedom Battle

In a bold move, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a non-profit organization championing religious freedom, has taken legal action against Vermont officials on behalf of Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS). The school, facing exclusion from tournaments, raised concerns after forfeiting a girls basketball game against Long Trail High School, which included a transgender student on their roster.

The lawsuit, filed by ADF, contends that MVCS, following its religious beliefs about gender and sexuality, was unjustly barred from future tournaments and expelled from the Vermont Principal’s Association (VPA). This action is cited as an infringement on the school’s right to participate in the state’s tuition program and sports league based on its Christian principles.

The complaint emphasizes that MVCS is enduring irreparable harm due to its exclusion, affecting not only its athletic program but also hindering participation in academic competitions, debates and fairs. The VPA’s stance, according to the suit, stems from the school’s adherence to the belief that biological boys are boys, and it cannot affirm otherwise.
