Tornadoes, Waist Deep Flooding Leave Midwest Looking Like a ‘War Zone’

Severe flooding and multiple twisters have left a trail of destruction through America’s heartland. The heavy rains trapped drivers in Wisconsin in waist-deep water last night, while devastating tornadoes destroyed homes and businesses.

In Milwaukee, residents watched garbage cans floating away as streets turned into rushing torrents from three inches of rain. Wisconsin’s governor was forced to declare a state of emergency.

Twisters ripped across both Wisconsin and Michigan, leaving a trail of downed trees and damaged houses.

One Michigan resident said, “The sirens went off so I kind of just laid there, then the wind started getting strong so I got up and looked out back and we headed to the basement at that point, it sounded like one of my windows blew out of my house and I think that must be when the trees fell down on the house.”

In Carson City, Michigan, authorities were trying to round up cows at Hull’s Dairy Farm that got out after a tornado tore through.

Active Shooter Incident at Temple Israel Exposes Growing Threats to Jewish Communities

UPDATE: Authorities later confirmed that the suspected shooter has been neutralized and the situation at Temple Israel is now under control. Officials also confirmed that no children were harmed during the incident. A security guard was injured after being struck by the suspect’s vehicle during the attack. We thank God for His protection and mercy in a situation that could have ended far more tragically.

Original article:

Police swarmed a synagogue in suburban Detroit Thursday after reports of an active shooter prompted a major law enforcement response and forced nearby residents to shelter in place.

Authorities responded just before 1 p.m. to reports of shots fired at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The situation quickly drew dozens of police vehicles from multiple agencies as helicopters circled overhead and officers secured the area.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard told reporters at the scene that investigators believe at least one person fired shots during the incident.

“At least one person is believed to have fired shots,” Bouchard said. Authorities are also investigating whether more than one suspect may have been involved.

Officials said no injuries had been confirmed as of Thursday afternoon.

The incident triggered a shelter in place order within a one mile radius as police worked to secure the synagogue and surrounding area.

Heavy Law Enforcement Response

The West Bloomfield Police Department initially alerted residents to the situation shortly before 1 p.m., warning the public to avoid the area while officers responded to what was described as an “active situation.”

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a Facebook post that deputies and multiple agencies were responding to a report of an active shooter.

Dozens of law enforcement vehicles lined Walnut Lake Road outside the synagogue complex as officers established a perimeter.

Michigan State Police said troopers were increasing patrols at other houses of worship across the region as a precaution.

Temple Israel is a Reform Jewish synagogue located at 5725 Walnut Lake Road.

Jewish organizations connected to the Jewish Federation of Detroit also entered precautionary lockdown as the situation unfolded.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer released a statement on social media following the incident. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

Rising Anti-Semitism Around the World

Incidents like this reflect a troubling trend as anti-Semitism surges across the United States and around the world.

The explosion of anti-Israel activism and anti-Jewish rhetoric following the horrific Hamas terror attacks on Israel on Oct. 7 exposed how deeply this hatred has spread.

Across the United States, college campuses erupted with demonstrations where Jewish students reported harassment, intimidation and open hostility toward Israel and its people.

Synagogues and Jewish institutions have also faced increasing threats, forcing many congregations to strengthen security and work closely with local law enforcement.

The active shooter scare in Michigan underscores a sobering reality. As hostility toward the Jewish people grows louder in public spaces, Jewish communities increasingly find themselves facing threats to their safety.

Biblical Prophecy and the Last Days

Scripture makes clear that hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people will intensify in the last days.

The prophet Zechariah warned that the nations of the world would eventually turn against Jerusalem.

“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling to all the surrounding peoples,” Zechariah 12:2 says.

The prophecy continues with a declaration that all nations will one day gather against Jerusalem.

These developments unfolding around the world echo what the Bible has already declared. The growing hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people aligns with the prophetic warnings recorded in Scripture thousands of years ago.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Moments like this must move us to prayer.

Scripture commands us to pray for Israel and for the peace of Jerusalem.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you,’” Psalm 122:6 says.

We must pray for the Jewish people. We must pray for the protection of synagogues and Jewish communities around the world. We must pray for peace in Jerusalem.

And we must ask the Lord to take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it for good.

Hero Church Guard Speaks Out After Stopping Armed Attacker in His Tracks

An armed civilian helped prevent what undoubtedly would have turned into one of the worst mass shootings in American history.

On Sunday in Wayne, Michigan, 31-year-old Brian Anthony Browning approached the CrossPointe Community Church heavily armed and apparently determined to inflict mass casualties inside the church — filled at that time with children gathered for a special Vacation Bible School service — only to encounter a heroic church safety team, including Jay Trombley, who engaged Browning, inflicting fatal wounds that neutralized the threat.

Then, in a Tuesday interview with WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Trombley delivered a hard truth for people who frequent soft targets.

“You are your own first responder,” Trombley said in a clip posted to the social media platform X.

Earlier in that same clip, the hero praised God for saving many lives.

“Evil came to our door,” Trombley said. “But God’s hand for protection was right over us.”

“So many things happened that can only be God-driven,” he continued. “The parishioner shows up late to engage him with his pickup truck to slow him down. A double-pane window stopped five rounds that I’m fairly certain where I was standing, to look at the wall behind me, to see the impacts, to see where rounds from his rifle traveled and impacted, I’m, I’m — God’s hand was protecting me.”

Meanwhile, in another clip from the same interview — also posted to X — Trombley described at length how the incident unfolded.

/**/

The hero was inside the church when he thought he heard something “mechanical” outside. But a young woman, fleeing the threat, said, “AR-15.”

Trombley then went to the lobby doors and “started evaluating the situation, trying to make sense of a person on the ground, a pickup truck there, looked like it had some damage, had heard several bursts of [what] sounded like automatic rifle fire.”

In other words, by the time Trombley reached the scene, the heroic pickup truck driver had already knocked Browning to the ground.

Still, the danger remained.

“He fired some more into our building,” Trombley said moments later. “By the grace of God he missed me. He hit another person in the calf. And after that I engaged him and took care of the threat to the church.”

According to WXYZ-TV, the man shot in the calf was Ron Amann, who has attended the church since the 1960s. One of the bullets shattered Amann’s tibia.

Incredibly, Amann and two other safety team members had attended training only three days before the shooting.

“When we formed this team, I just knew it was my calling to protect my family and this church family,” Amann said of the decision he and several other church members made to form the safety team roughly 10 years ago.

In short, when danger appears, ordinary citizens like Trombley and Amann must act as their own first responders.

And act they did. In fact, one could scarcely imagine a more compelling example of heroism — and of God’s divine providence — than what unfolded Sunday at CrossPointe Community Church.

Gunman Killed After Church Shooting; Police Praise Staff Response

A gunman was shot and killed Sunday morning after opening fire during a church service at Crosspointe Church in Wayne, Michigan, leaving one person injured and prompting praise from police for the swift and heroic response of trained church staff.

“The Wayne Police Department responded to an active shooter at Crosspointe Church in Wayne this morning,” the department said in a statement. “Upon arrival, officers determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect. One victim was shot in the leg. Please avoid the area. Officers are still actively investigating.”

Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong confirmed during a news conference that the suspect was a 31-year-old white male from Romulus, Michigan, who was carrying both “a long gun and handgun” and dressed in tactical gear. “His motivations are unknown, but at this point it appears he was suffering from a mental health crisis,” Strong said.

Strong noted that the gunman had minimal prior interaction with law enforcement. “Our interactions with him in the past were quite limited. Like nothing of note,” he said.

One church staff member was shot once in the leg around 11:45 a.m. local time. The gunman was confronted outside the church by staff and a parishioner, who struck him with a vehicle while the attacker returned fire. “Several staff members from the church approached the gunman. A parishioner struck the gunman with his vehicle as the gunman shot the vehicle repeatedly,” Strong said.

At least two staff members fired on the suspect, delivering fatal shots. “We are grateful for the heroic actions of the church’s staff members, who undoubtedly saved many lives and prevented a large scale mass shooting,” Strong said. “I would add that the church parishioners and staff members were trained in responding to emergency situations, which also saved lives.”

The FBI is monitoring the incident. “Our leadership and support teams are on the ground, at the scene, in Wayne, Michigan providing assistance and investigative support,” said FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.

Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd issued a nationwide warning in response to the shooting. “This morning’s active shooter at a church in Wayne, Michigan reminds us that all of our houses of worship must have a safety and security plan to immediately respond to an active shooter,” he posted on X. “An active shooter can happen anywhere, and churches, synagogues, and mosques need to take steps to prepare for such a scenario.”

He continued, “We urge congregants: If you see something, or hear something suspicious, then say something. Talk to house of worship leadership and security and notify your local law enforcement agency immediately.”

As the Crosspointe community recovers from this traumatic event, Christians everywhere are reminded that persecution and attacks are not unexpected. Jesus Himself warned His followers: “You will be hated by all men for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt. 10:22). John 15:18-19 affirms this truth: “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.”

As believers prepare spiritually and practically for uncertain days, they must also stand firm in faith, knowing that the name of Jesus is offensive to a world in rebellion.

Unbelievable Discovery: Crucifixion Message Found in Early North American Carving

The message of the gospel truly is meant to go throughout all of creation to the very ends of the earth.

According to the Daily Mail, archaeologists have recently unveiled the meaning behind 255 different symbols carved in a rock in Canada. It is believed that these etchings have been in the stone for around 200 years.

Back in 2018, a tree fell in the town of Wawa, Canada, about 155 miles from the border in Michigan. When this happened, a square-shaped inscription was revealed with hundreds of symbols carved all over a slab of rock. Now, it has been determined that these writings are indeed Swedish carvings of the Lord’s Prayer.

Back in the 1800s, Hudson’s Bay Company hired Swedish workers at trading posts in the area, indicating that a likely candidate who made the carving was from Sweden. Since no other objects have been found in this area, this humble spot may have been a quite place for outside worship.

This remarkable discovery reminds us that the message of Christ has reached even the most remote corners of the world. These carvings show that believers in past generations were not only carrying their faith with them into unknown lands, but also leaving behind a witness to the power of prayer. It’s a striking testimony that the gospel truly is embedded in creation—etched in stone as a cry to heaven from the wilderness.

For today’s Christian, this find serves as both encouragement and challenge. Encouragement, because it proves that faith endures across time and distance; and challenge, because it calls us to carry that same gospel boldly in our own spheres of influence.

As archaeology continues to unearth such treasures, we are reminded that God is always revealing the echoes of His story—written not just in books, but in the very rocks of the earth.

Exposed: School Caught Silencing Christian Students

A Michigan elementary school has reversed course after reportedly banning at least one student from performing Christian music at a talent show.

First Liberty Institute, a nonprofit legal firm that defends Christian and conservative values, said West Ward Elementary in Allegan, Michigan, initially wouldn’t allow at least one student to perform songs by Christian artists Colton Dixon and Brandon Lake.

Educators reportedly told the student in question the lyrics for the songs were too “Christian-based.” But that changed after First Liberty sent a letter to administrators, and officials reversed course.

/**/

“We are grateful for the school’s prompt attention to our letter and their recognition that the law is very clearly on the side of the students,” Kayla Toney, counsel for First Liberty, said in a statement. “Our clients look forward to singing their faith-based songs, as practiced and planned, at the talent show on May 23.”

Allegan Public School District Superintendent James Antoine said in a statement to CBN News that, once concerns were raised about the handling of the situation regarding the talent show, it was remedied.

“Upon review, it was determined that school staff were unfamiliar with the legal guidelines concerning religious expression in a public school setting,” the statement read. “To clarify: students are permitted to perform songs of their choice, including those with religious content, provided the material complies with the student code of conduct — particularly regarding language and theme. Religious songs have been, and will continue to be, allowed at school events like talent shows.”

Antoine said he was happy to see the matter concluded quickly and expressed apologies for any confusion or consternation caused in the process.

Illegal Immigrant Released Following Alleged Killing of Beloved Pastor

An illegal immigrant is free after he purportedly killed a well-known Detroit-based Christian pastor.

That pastor, 72-year-old Stephen Singleton, was hit by a car while out for a stroll on the morning of Nov. 3. Singleton later died form injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver was an illegal immigrant from Columbia, law enforcement officials said according to local Fox affiliate WJBK.

Singleton did everything right that morning; According to investigators, the pastor was wearing a reflective vest and walking on a crosswalk, ABC News affiliate WXYZ-TV reported.

Despite this, and despite the driver’s illegal status, the Columbian was released from custody following the accident.

Singleton’s wife, Teri, is upset at that fact.

“He was a loving person who cared about everybody,” she said. “I had to sit and watch my husband of 53 years die in front of me and then to know that the person who did this is walking around is very difficult to deal with.”

She added: “He’s dead and they’re walking around. That’s bothering me.”

Nevertheless, Singleton’s family has chosen to put their faith above a desire for revenge.

“I will not be angry because this has happened,” Singleton’s daughter, Ruth, told WJBK.

She noted that her father’s teachings played a role in that peace of mind: “I refuse to be angry. I will still love like my Dad taught me to.”

Pastor Singleton was known for many good deeds, including during 9/11 when he rushed to Ground Zero to help others as a volunteer.

The family has since set up a GoFundMe account to help cover various medical and funeral expenses related to Singleton’s death.

Allie Singleton, the pastor’s granddaughter, set up the account and wrote a lengthy message detailing how much her grandfather meant to her.

“He never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone and made lifelong friendships. His motto was everyone was his brother or sister and sharing support, wisdom and the love of the Lord was his responsibility. He was a father to the fatherless, as well as all his nieces and nephews and every child in all the neighborhoods he frequented,” Allie Singleton wrote.

“All our family activities and outings included every child that could fit in his van. Another of his greatest joys was being a religion instructor for Saint Cecilia Elementary School in Detroit. He loved every child he encountered and always saw their greatest potential. Whenever possible throughout their lives he never stopped mentoring, ministering, giving them love and life instruction.

“Thank you for helping us in our time of need and keeping his memory alive. We are devastated and will surely miss our Papi.”

Pastor Arrested After Horrific Discovery in Church Bathroom

A pastor has been arrested after a disturbing discovery in his church, a find that now appears to be a disgusting violation of his former congregation’s trust.

The 37-year-old worship pastor at a Brighton, Michigan, branch of the 2|42 Community Church, Will Johnson, was arrested Friday after a member of the staff discovered a camera hidden in a bathroom.

The camera was turned over to church leadership, to whom Johnson allegedly made a shocking confession.

According to Detroit News, Eric Rouch, the church’s executive pastor of ministry operations, said Johnson admitted to placing the camera inside the bathroom.

The disgraced pastor was immediately fired and was arrested shortly after.

Rouch said the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation and found Johnson at his Howell home, taking him into custody there.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this situation, as the protection, safety and privacy of every person who enters our church is our priority,” Rouch said to Detroit News.

“2|42 Community Church is cooperating fully with the sheriff’s office investigation and is taking proactive steps, including engaging with a third-party investigator, to ensure the safety of all our facilities.

According to Detroit News, Johnson allegedly told detectives that he had placed the cameras sporadically over the past two years.

Police say Johnson admitted to targeting a specific staff member with the camera placements, deploying the device in a bathroom the person was likely to use.

The bathroom where the camera was found is described as a “non-public, unisex bathroom” that is located in the church’s backstage area.

Regardless of who was being targeted—staff, clergy or congregation—the discovery revealed a disturbing violation of trust within the walls of the church itself.

Johnson was a part of a Churchfront conference, where, in a now-deleted webpage, his tips and advice to church worship directors was listed.

The pastor also appeared in a recorded Q&A session at the February 2024 conference, which is still available online. He can be seen at the 16:25 mark, answering a question about his beard care regimen.

The law is taking the pastor’s alleged crime extremely seriously.

Johnson is now charged with tampering with evidence and using a computer to commit a crime. He is also being charged with surveilling an unclothed person, a felony.

In total, he faces eight years in prison for all the charges if convicted.

Johnson was allowed a bond, set at $250,000. He is next scheduled to appear for a hearing on Sept. 24.

House Church Network Sees Growth, Miracles and Salvations

Roots Assembly of God, located in Metro Detroit, Michigan, may only meet corporately twice a month, but the reach of their community impact and the depths of their discipleship speak volumes about what God is doing through this unique church.

Roots AG, led by founding pastor Art Thomas, 39, considers themselves a network rather than a congregation, a model that their website states is unlike a “typical church.” That’s because this body of believers, which averages around 300 individuals, is actually made up of 10 house churches and plans to grow that number to 13 in the coming months.

According to Thomas, church starts in the home.

In 2005, while serving as a worship and youth leader in a small, rural church plant, Thomas began to feel led that he should start a house church in his home, which was located an hour away from the church building, while also continuing in his traditional ministry roles.

It was not long before both churches were growing. However, Thomas states that what he saw God doing in his house was like nothing he had ever before seen.

“It was like living immersed in the book of Acts,” he remarks in his book, Gospel Houses.

Breaking NewsSpirit-Filled Stories. Subscribe to Charisma on YouTube now!

Three years later, Thomas and his wife moved, and Thomas found himself serving once again in formal ministry capacities at a mid-sized AG church.

But in 2011, Thomas realized he was being called, for a second time, to plant a house church. Within four years, a second house church launched. Growth continued, and in 2018, a third house church was born.

Observing a need to collectively unify this network that was being built by the Lord, Roots AG was officially established on Aug. 25, 2019.

Today, Thomas acts as founding pastor but leads a team of men and women who oversee the network. Several qualified and trained men, women and couples pastor their own house churches under this team’s mentorship.

Alex Perry, 26, who was discipled in Thomas’ original house church, now pastors a house church alongside his wife, Gracie.

“While I was part of Art’s church, I noticed how my personal discipleship was accelerating much faster than it had in a traditional church,” Perry recalls. “When Art asked me to start a house church, I was nervous, but my heart was already in it.”

Gracie admits her initial doubt about the model’s effectiveness but states that she “noticed the ability given to everyone to minister to each other and started to see a lot of spiritual growth in herself and others.”

Jon Carlisle, 40, and his wife, Heather, had served in conventional church settings for much of their lives before coming to Roots AG last year. Carlisle notes, “This is the easiest form of ministry I’ve done, and we’re seeing so much fruit and lives changed.”

Another house church is led by intergenerational team Luke Maxon, 24, and co-pastor Ellen Pye, 77.

Maxon states, “This is the healthiest body of believers I’ve ever been part of. Every person is being equipped to minister every single week. If you want to grow, the sky is the limit–from discipleship to how to reach people for Christ.”

Week after week, testimonies pour in, attesting to the move of the Spirit that is happening as a result of these “family style” meetings in and around the Metro Detroit area.

“When we do board meetings, we always start with a half hour of testimonies about what God is doing throughout the network, and we usually have to cut it short,” Thomas says. “People are being saved and set free, healings are being reported, marriages are being restored and more as people throughout our church share the gospel and love people in their everyday lives.”

The intimate discipleship is also equipping this body of believers for everyday ministry.

Perry recalls a gentleman who reluctantly attended their house church after experiencing tremendous spiritual hurt at a former church. Within the walls of Perry’s home, the Lord brought total healing to this man’s life and filled him with the Holy Spirit.

“We’ve known him to go to downtown Detroit just to eat soup with some of the homeless population and to listen to their stories and share Jesus with them,” he states. Today he pastors a house church of his own in the Roots network.

Another testimony is shared by JonMark Baker, Evangelism and Discipleship director for Roots AG.

As he was driving home from a house church meeting, he noticed a man staggering along the sidewalk. As he passed the man, he felt the Holy Spirit telling him to give the man a ride home.

“When he got in the car, we started talking. As soon as he found out I was a pastor, he asked me what God thought about suicide,” recalls Baker. “Come to find out, the man had just received another DUI, lost his license, his job and was about to lose his home.”

Immediately, Baker began to share the gospel with him and connected him with a friend who offered him employment beginning the next day.

Within a week, the man was plugged in to a Roots house church and baptized in the homeowner’s bathtub.

In fact, states Baker, another man, who had been plagued by demonic spirits and addicted to drugs, came that night for the first time and got saved after watching the baptism and hearing the man’s testimony. He had come at his girlfriend’s recommendation after she was physically healed on the street and heard the gospel, though she hadn’t yet attended.

Soon after, she was saved, too, and both were baptized at their house church. Over the past year, their church family has walked them through the process of finding work, getting married, and establishing stability in their lives.

“The best parts of Christianity were never meant to be limited to big church buildings,” Thomas states. “And my favorite part,” he says, “is that it’s not just a person on a stage, everyone is doing ministry.”

The network does come together twice a month, every first and third Sunday evening, for a corporate time of worship and for a larger fellowship event. House church pastors gather on second Sundays.

As for the rapid growth, many of the house church pastors attest to the deep discipleship that naturally takes place in the small group setting.

Perry states that house church pastors teach people in the group how to feed and minister to each other.

“It creates a group of people who are ‘getting it’ and can share the gospel effectively. If people are being disciples and making disciples, the house churches start themselves,” he says.
