Why Damascus Matters in Bible Prophecy: The Spiritual Battle for the Middle East
The unthinkable is unfolding in Syria. On July 14, violence erupted in the Suwayda region—home to the Druze minority—leading to a wave of mass killings that has claimed over 500 lives. More than 200 confirmed Druze were slaughtered in what James Kaddis called “undoubtedly” a genocide.
“We’ve been talking about it all week,” Kaddis said. “Starting on July 14… over 500 people have been killed, tortured. They’ve suffered immense loss. We know for a fact that over 200 of them are confirmed to be Druze. And we know based on every single definition out there, this has been an attempt… at a genocide.”

The perpetrators include Syrian government-aligned forces such as the Fifth Corps and tribal militias, who entered Druze villages and carried out execution-style killings. “The Sweida National Hospital was completely overwhelmed,” Kaddis noted. “We know this to be the truth. We know that there’s been tons of sectarian violence against the Druze. And it has been horrendous.”

The Druze, a monotheistic ethno-religious minority, have long defended their territory. “They’ve been there for a very, very long time… defending since 1925,” he added.
Israel’s response came swiftly, with the IDF launching airstrikes on militias and Syrian regime targets near Damascus and southern Syria. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for the assassination of HTS leader Ahmed al-Shara (Abu Muhammad al-Julani), saying, “Eliminate El-Golani… get rid of him. He’s a jihadist. Why are we letting him live?”
Kaddis explained that Israel’s intervention was based on multiple urgent factors. First and foremost, under the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine: “Israel had what was called an immediate R2P obligation… When a state is unable or unwilling to stop the atrocities, the international community has the responsibility to intervene.”
Second, there was a legal and moral precedent. “Netanyahu created a public red line. He said, ‘No forces south of Damascus. No harm to the Druze,’” Kaddis said.
Third, Kaddis explained how the region is of immense strategic importance. “Jabal al-Druze overlooks Israel’s Golan Heights… If it is not guarded, then it will allow hostile armor to go along that side and attack them.”
Finally, Israel sought to deter Iranian expansion. “Syria has always been… a cesspool of proxies of Iran who seek to destroy Israel by expanding in that region,” Kaddis said.
The situation is further complicated by shifting alliances, including Turkey’s movements and America’s diplomatic hesitations. “The United States of America knew the hornet’s nest that it was walking into,” Kaddis said. “It is ugly.”
Yet even in the chaos, this is the moment that prophecy is being fulfilled. “We have watched Israel become a praise among the nations,” Kaddis declared. “Isaiah 62 says that in the last days, Israel will become a praise among the nations. And it’s happening.”

He concluded with a sobering spiritual reflection: “All of these things relate to the land of our Lord… this whole area becomes ground zero for what the Bible says will be the last days.”
As tensions escalate near Damascus and prophetic markers continue to align, the urgency for spiritual clarity and readiness has never been greater. These are not just political headlines—they are signals pointing to a greater unfolding narrative foretold in Scripture.
