Jonathan Cahn Warns of Ancient ‘Throne of Satan’ Mystery Ahead of 2027
What if one of the most chilling references in the book of Revelation was not merely symbolic, but connected to an actual ancient structure whose path can be traced through some of history’s darkest moments?
That is the mystery Jonathan Cahn is unraveling in his new book, The Altar of Pergamon, where he examines the ancient altar connected to the biblical city Revelation describes as the place “where Satan’s throne is.”
Speaking about the mystery in an interview with Charisma Media, Cahn said the massive altar once stood on the high place of Pergamon in Asia Minor, modern-day Turkey. Associated with Zeus, it was one of the largest altars of the ancient Greek world.
But Cahn believes there was something far darker behind the pagan worship.
“The gods are masks,” Cahn said, arguing that spiritual entities stood behind ancient pagan deities. According to Cahn, Zeus, the king of the gods, ultimately represented the ruler of demonic powers.
For centuries, the altar remained buried in ruins. Then, in the 19th century, it was unearthed and transported to Germany.
Cahn points to a series of historical connections he believes are anything but accidental.

The first pieces surfaced in 1871—the same year the modern German state was unified. Archaeological excavations later began in earnest, and the altar was eventually transported to Berlin and reconstructed. Cahn notes that in 1889, as the massive structure was being pieced back together, Adolf Hitler was born.
The connections, he says, only grow darker.
Cahn says Hitler’s enormous Nuremberg rally platform was modeled after the Pergamon Altar. From that platform, Hitler addressed massive crowds as Nazi Germany moved toward war and the systematic murder of millions of Jews.
“The platform on which Adolf Hitler stood was a recreation of the Altar of Pergamon,” Cahn said.
Cahn also traces what he sees as connections between the altar and the rise of Marxism, communism and the Soviet Union. After World War II, Soviet forces discovered the altar, which had been hidden in a Berlin bunker, and transported it to Russia. Cahn points to the Soviet Union’s subsequent rise as a superpower and the spread of communism across Eastern Europe and China.
Now, Cahn believes another significant moment is approaching.
The Pergamon Museum’s altar display is expected to reopen in 2027 after years of closure. Cahn says he didn’t plan the timing of his book, but he believes the mystery has implications for the future, including Israel, end-times prophecy, and the Antichrist.
Yet Cahn’s message is not one of fear.
“If the enemy is real, God is all the more real,” he said.
That is the greater mystery. Empires rise. Darkness wages war. Evil attempts to destroy what God has established. Yet Cahn points believers back to the cross and Jesus Christ’s ultimate victory.
“You are in a fight,” Cahn said. “The enemy is fighting over your life.”
However, evil does not get the final word.
“We win at the end.”
