Dutch Sheets Calls On Christians to Become Watchmen as Cyber Threats Target America’s Power Grid
President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration concerning threats against America’s power grid has become an urgent prayer assignment for believers, according to Dutch Sheets.
Trump issued the declaration Aug. 26, warning that foreign actors are exploiting vulnerabilities within the nation’s bulk power system. The system supplies electricity to national defense operations, emergency services and other critical infrastructure.
Sheets highlighted reports that China has studied ways to disable the grid and that Chinese-manufactured components may allow remote access, unauthorized data collection and operational disruption. Iranian cyber actors have also targeted American infrastructure.
Rather than respond with fear, Sheets called Christians to recognize our biblical responsibility as spiritual watchmen.
“We are called to be alert in prayer, watching for our family, friends, leaders, cities and nations,” Sheets said during his Aug. 28 “Give Him 15” message.

A Proactive Prayer Assignment
Sheets pointed to 1 Peter 5:8 and Ephesians 6:18, which instruct believers to remain spiritually alert. In biblical times, watchmen guarded crops and stood on city walls looking for approaching enemies.
That same vigilance should mark our prayers today, Sheets said.
“Discerning intercessors look ahead into the future, peering into the distance, discerning attacks of the enemy, sometimes before they even occur,” he said. “He or she is proactive, not just reactive. This is prophetic intercession.”
Sheets also connected watchman prayer to Genesis 2:15, where God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. He said Adam’s responsibility included guarding the garden from the serpent.
Applying that principle today, Sheets said the watchman’s “foremost responsibility is to keep the serpent out of their garden — their home, family, church, city, nation.”
Watchmen guard people from danger, discern what should be allowed through spiritual gates and help preserve what God is doing. Sheets said intercessors also help maintain unity, purity and truth within the church.
He urged us to pray for supernatural protection over America’s power grid, government agencies, national leaders and their families. He also called for the exposure and defeat of cyberattack plans originating in China, Russia, Iran and elsewhere.
“Watchmen, it’s time to be on the wall,” Sheets said. “Let’s keep watch for our families, communities and our great nation.”
