Tim Curry Dies at 80; Did the Beloved Actor Accept Jesus Before His Death?

Tim Curry, the beloved British actor whose unmistakable voice and larger-than-life performances captivated generations, died Tuesday at his Los Angeles home. He was 80.

Curry’s longtime manager and friend, Marcia Hurwitz, confirmed his death to The Associated Press. A cause was not immediately disclosed.

Although Curry became famous through darker and more provocative roles, many families knew him from films such as “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” “Muppet Treasure Island” and the comedic murder mystery “Clue.” His extensive voice-acting career also introduced him to younger generations.

Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012 that left him unable to walk. He continued working and appearing before fans, later reflecting on his mortality in his 2025 autobiography, “Vagabond.”

Curry wrote that he did not believe in heaven or hell, though he remained curious about what awaited him after death. In a CBS interview, he said he did not fear death but tried to avoid it, adding that he suspected he would eventually welcome it.

Those remarks take on added significance following an account from celebrity evangelist Dylan Novak, who says he personally shared Jesus Christ with Curry in 2018.

Novak said he unexpectedly found Curry eating with his manager after missing a scheduled convention photo opportunity in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Curry invited the young evangelist to sit down and explain why he had approached him.

“I shared with him that I knew he wasn’t a spiritual person, that he was very open and that I wanted to share Jesus with him,” Novak recalled. “I wanted to share the one and only way to heaven.”

According to Novak, Curry listened respectfully.

“He was very gracious. He was very kind. He listened,” Novak said.

Curry’s death begs a deeply personal question: Did his beliefs change after hearing the Gospel? Did the seed planted during that unexpected restaurant encounter eventually lead him to Jesus Christ?

We cannot know what transpired privately within Curry’s heart during his final years. Only God knows. Our earnest prayer is that before the end, Curry placed his faith in Jesus Christ and received the eternal life offered through Him.
