Muslim Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Uses Jesus to Defend His Radical Politics

Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is invoking Jesus Christ to defend his radical political agenda. However, the Jesus presented in the Quran is fundamentally different from the Jesus we believe in and worship.

During an appearance on “The Progressive Christians Podcast,” El-Sayed discussed being labeled a radical for supporting policies such as Medicare for All.

“Jesus, peace and blessings be upon him, was considered radical in his time too,” El-Sayed said, according to Breitbart News. “And there is a radical nature to being willing to stand forthright in a time of corruption.”

El-Sayed previously argued that Jesus’ teachings were “about upending the system against the richest and most powerful and the ways that they used their power and their money to subjugate other people.”

That is not the central message of Jesus Christ. The gospel is not a political program for government redistribution. Jesus came to save sinners through His death and resurrection.

El-Sayed openly identifies the Quran as an inspiration for his politics and lives his life by Sharia Law, according to a report by Breitbart. While the Quran calls Jesus the Messiah, it presents Him only as a human messenger and expressly rejects His deity. Surah 4:171 tells readers that Jesus was merely a messenger and warns them not to say “Three.” Surah 5:72 condemns the belief that the Messiah is God.

Jesus said something entirely different about Himself.

“Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM,” Jesus declared in John 8:58. Christ was not merely claiming to have existed before Abraham. He identified Himself with the eternal name of God revealed to Moses.

Jesus made the truth even more explicit in John 10:30: “My Father and I are one.” Those who heard Him understood that He was claiming equality with God and prepared to stone Him for what they considered blasphemy.

The Jesus of the Bible is not a radical teacher, Islamic prophet or symbol for socialist politics. He is God in the flesh, the crucified and risen Savior and the only way to the Father.

Politicians may attempt to enlist Jesus in their campaigns, but they do not get to redefine Him. Christ has already told us who He is.
