Houston Church Rocked After Gunfire Breaks Out During Worship Service

What began as an ordinary Sunday morning of worship quickly turned into a frightening scene for dozens of churchgoers when gunfire was reported near the church building.

About 70 people gathered for worship Sunday, Aug. 16, at a church at 14109 South Post Oak Road in southwest Houston. when the service was suddenly disrupted. A churchgoer told KPRC 2/Click2Houston that the church was fired upon while the congregation was inside, forcing the service to come to an abrupt end.

The Houston Police Department told KPRC 2 that officers received a call about the reported shooting at approximately 11:19 a.m. after a resident close to the church heard gunfire in the area. Officers responded within minutes and brought the situation under control. The address of the church is the same as that of Iglesia Rios de Vida.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

Police had not released information about a suspect at the time of the initial report.

This moment should be more than another troubling story scrolling across a screen. It should be a call to prayer.

Pray for this Houston congregation as they process what happened. Pray for law enforcement as investigators seek answers. Pray also for churches across America that they would remain places of peace and protection.
