Christian Family Suffers Unimaginable Loss in Deadly Russian Missile Strike

A devastating Russian missile strike has torn apart a Christian family in Ukraine, leaving a grieving son and an entire community mourning a family remembered for its faith, love and devotion to others.

According to International Christian Concern, Russia launched more than 70 missiles and 280 drones during an attack July 30 that struck Radushne, a village on the outskirts of Kryvyi Rih.

Among the homes hit was that of the Voronov family, who were sleeping when a missile struck their house.

Five members of the family were initially confirmed dead: Artem and Olena Voronov and three of their children — Mark, 17; Azariah Ilay, 11; and Emilia, 6.

Human remains were also recovered from the site. Authorities were awaiting forensic examinations to determine whether they belonged to four more of the couple’s children and their 18-month-old grandson, Artem.

Danylo, a Ukrainian serviceman and son of Artem and Olena, was away with his wife when the attack occurred. His young son had been staying with his grandparents.

“I lost everyone: my parents, sisters, brothers and son,” Danylo said, according to ICC.

About 200 people gathered Aug. 4 to remember the family. A memorial filled with flowers, drawings and toys stood as a reminder of the children and loved ones lost.

The Voronovs were known throughout their village for the Christian faith that shaped how they lived and treated those around them.

“In the village,” one neighbor told ICC, “they were known as an exemplary family who showed others how to be friends and how to love and support one another.”

As this family and community endure unimaginable grief, we can stand with them in prayer. Let us pray for Danylo and his wife, for every grieving relative and friend, and for God’s comfort and peace to surround them in the days ahead.

Let us also remember our Christian brothers and sisters living in war zones around the world. Pray for their protection, strength and endurance, and ask God to bring peace where war has brought suffering, destruction and death.
