When ‘Legion’ Speaks: Jan Markell Confronts the Demonic Influence Deceiving American Culture

Demonic teaching does not always announce itself through an occult ritual. Sometimes it holds a microphone, claims God’s approval and attracts millions of followers.

Olive Tree Ministries founder Jan Markell delivered that warning while confronting Candace Owens’ attacks against Israel, Jewish people and dispensational theology.

Markell said influential figures who identify as Christians are spreading “conspiracies, lies, rumors and frankly tall tales.” Their reach is not harmless. She cited pastors who have lost church members to the teachings of Owens and Tucker Carlson.

Owens has repeatedly described her following as “legion,” declaring, “This is how we are legion.”

Markell connected that disturbing language to Mark 5, where the demon-possessed man identified the spirits controlling him as “Legion.”

“Clearly she is driven by the demonic,” Markell said. “Not at all surprising in that we are in the last of the last days and evil is to wax worse and worse according to 2 Timothy 3.”

Owens mocked Christians who support Israel as people who “just sound like robots.” She then placed dispensationalism and the Scofield Bible in her crosshairs.

Markell identified what is under attack.

“Few want to hear about the Rapture, the Tribulation, the Antichrist, the literal Millennium, and the separate and distinct role for Israel and the church,” she said.

Owens’ rhetoric then descended into outright antisemitism. She accused Jewish people of controlling the slave trade, told them, “Stop telling people you’re chosen,” and invoked the phrase “synagogue of Satan.”

These are not innocent theological disagreements. Owens used sweeping accusations to condemn an entire people while attacking truths rooted in Scripture.

“This kind of animosity is clearly demonic,” Markell said. “I see the doctrine of demons spoken of in 1 Timothy 4:1.”

Markell warned that “seducing spirits and doctrines of demons are running rampant today,” with Israel and the Jewish people becoming particular targets.

She is right. Popularity does not sanctify falsehood, and professing Christianity does not place anyone beyond biblical scrutiny.

“Discern the times, friends,” Markell said. “You must, or you will be consumed by the lies.”

And “legion” is nothing for a Christian to boast about.
