Jimmy Kimmel’s Left-Wing Late-Night Show Faces an Uncertain Future

A new report claims Jimmy Kimmel’s long-running late-night program will end in 2027, but ABC insists no decision has been made.

Page Six reported that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is expected to conclude when the host’s contract expires in May 2027. An unnamed source told the outlet that Kimmel’s contract “is not getting extended,” potentially ending his increasingly political show after 24 seasons.

ABC Entertainment disputed the report Tuesday.

“This information is inaccurate — any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative,” a network spokesperson said, according to People.

Kimmel signed a one-year contract extension with Disney in December 2025, guaranteeing that the program would remain on ABC through May 2027. The agreement was shorter than the three-year extensions Kimmel typically received.

Kimmel’s monologues have increasingly centered on left-wing political commentary and attacks against President Donald Trump and other conservatives.

ABC temporarily suspended the program in September 2025 after Kimmel made controversial remarks surrounding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Nexstar Media and Sinclair Broadcast Group later preempted the show on dozens of ABC affiliates before restoring it.

Kimmel returned from his summer break this week for the program’s 4,000th episode. He used the milestone monologue to renew his attacks against Trump and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr.

The host has also openly discussed leaving late-night television. He acknowledged in June that ABC had not started negotiations for another extension.

“I don’t know what ABC is going to want to do,” Kimmel said. “It’s an unusual position to be in, but I do still have a year left on my contract, and that’s what I agreed to,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Despite the report, ABC has not canceled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The program remains secured through May 2027, while its future beyond that date remains unsettled.
