Christ the Redeemer Illuminated for Taylor Swift’s Tour Raises Questions

The recent illumination of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate Taylor Swift’s tour has ignited discussions about the appropriateness of using a symbol of Jesus Christ for secular purposes.

While the initiative aimed to bring joy to fans and coincide with the World Day of the Poor (by collecting donations of food and water for the needy), it raises questions about the alignment of such practices with biblical teachings on the sanctity and holiness of God.

One key consideration is the nature of Taylor Swift’s music, which has been known to incorporate new age and occult themes in her music videos. The Bible warns against participating in practices contrary to God’s holiness and calls believers to focus on what is pure, lovely and praiseworthy (see Phil. 4:8). Using a statue of Jesus Christ to celebrate an artist known for such themes raises concerns about whether it honors the Lord who sacrificed His life for mankind’s sins.

The Bible also cautions against idolatry, emphasizing that believers should worship the one true God. Using Christ the Redeemer, a symbol of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, to project imagery from secular songs may be perceived as blurring the lines between sacred and secular, potentially compromising the reverence due to God.

Furthermore, the Bible encourages believers not to conform to the patterns of the world but to be transformed in Jesus Christ (Rom. 12:2). While cultural engagement is important, the question arises: Does projecting secular imagery onto a religious monument align with the biblical call to live as lights in the world (Matt. 5:14)? Christians are prompted to reflect on how such practices contribute to the broader cultural narrative and whether they uphold the distinctive values of the Christian faith.

As Swift’s tour continues, the celebration extends to landmarks like Rio’s giant Ferris wheel, featuring lyrics from her hits, which none have taken issue with thus far. While creative and engaging for fans, the broader Christian community may grapple with the tension between cultural engagement and maintaining a commitment to honor and reflect the holiness of God in actions and choices.

The controversy surrounding the illumination of Christ the Redeemer invites Christians to consider the implications of using sacred symbols for secular celebrations. The debate calls for a thoughtful exploration of how cultural engagement aligns with biblical principles, emphasizing the need for discernment and a commitment to uphold the sanctity of God in all aspects of life.

Benny Tate: Watch the Holy Spirit Work, When You Let Him In

Pastor Benny Tate knows that the enemy can keep us busy to the point where the priority of serving God sometimes becomes an afterthought. Our culture has opened its doors wide for that attitude, especially in America.

But then Tate, who has served for more than 30 years as senior pastor of Rock Springs Church in Milner, Georgia, also knows that with God’s Holy Spirit, we don’t have to “compartmentalize” our lives to exclude our Lord and Savior from any part of our life.

We must, Tate says, think of our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit, which should be welcome in every corner of our lives.

“As elementary as it may sound, the more I give myself to God … the more we are letting Him in every room,” says Tate, author of Unlimited: Experiencing the Fullness of God’s Power in Your Life.

“A lot of times we say that ‘God, You can be in this section of my life, but I don’t want You in the business aspect of my life.

“I’ve learned that when we allow Him to enter every room, when I’m surrendering every room, every aspect of my life, that’s when I experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit in my life.”

Unfortunately, many believers never experience the fullness of their Holy Spirit in their own lives because they never fully surrender to Him. Many believers in the body of Christ don’t realize how the Holy Spirit can impact every part of their being because they don’t truly believe they are capable of embracing the Holy Spirit as a “layperson” in the church.

They believe that the Holy Spirit’s dunamis power is simply reserved for God’s elect. And, Tate says, nothing can be further from the truth.

Tate mentions that in Exodus 31, a man named Bezaleel was the first person the Bible says was filled with the Holy Spirit. He designed stones for the Tabernacle and was a master craftsman.

In essence, the first person that was filled with the Holy Spirit was not a sacred priest, a prophet or a Levite. He was secular. He was not in ministry, but in the marketplace.

“Bezaleel was simply a secular person and I just think that we have to understand that the Holy Spirit is for every aspect of our lives,” Tate says. “It’s interesting that we talked about being filled with the Spirit. We read Ephesians 5:18, and right after that verse, that’s when Paul talks about the husband and wife relationship.

“Right after those verses is when he talks about the parenting and child relationship. After those verses, he talks about the employer-employee relationships. The bottom line is, for that to be fruitful and effective, it’s going to come through being filled with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have a clue as to what to do or what to say or how to act or how to respond. We desperately need the Holy Spirit.”

Tate says it doesn’t simply apply to individual believers. This kingdom concept also applies to the church itself, and many individual churches need, and desperately crave, a fresh indwelling of the Holy Spirit every time they meet.

“Most churches are starting at 11 o’clock sharp and they’re ending at 12 o’clock dull,” reveals Tate. “We’ve got everything programmed and planned, but we need the Holy Spirit to lead our churches. We need the Holy Spirit to lead our services. Everything will be decently in order, as long as it’s led by Him.”

That happens especially in the American church. Yes, the Holy Spirit is a desired part of the service, but many church officials and congregation members count on the fact that God is orderly. They are focused so much on that, that they miss out on the great things the Holy Spirit has for them on any given Sunday or Wednesday night.

Jesus told His disciples not to preach or to assimilate—or do anything—until they were endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

“If He told these men not to minister without the Holy Spirit, why would the American church be trying to do anything else?” Tate asks. “I don’t know why we would try to do anything without the presence of the Holy Spirit leading us. I am convinced that unless the Holy Spirit leads me, nothing of significance is ever going to happen.”{eoa}

Candace Owens: The Hijacking of ‘Christ Is King’

What did Candace Owens mean when she posted that “Christ is King” in the midst of a very public dispute with her Daily Wire employer Ben Shapiro? I’m not going to enter into the details of that dispute, other than to say I agree with Shapiro’s concerns.

Here, I want to focus on Owens posting the words “Christ is King” on X (formerly Twitter).

In a previous post, she quoted the words of Jesus that “you cannot serve both God and money,” causing many to wonder if this was a dig on Jewish people, who are allegedly money hungry.

But why, specifically, did she add, “Christ is King”? Others are wondering as well.

As reported in the Jerusalem Post, “The posts on the social media platform X appeared to some as an anti-Semitic dog-whistle, alluding to Shapiro’s comments and invoking ancient anti-Jewish tropes through its use of biblical language and its appeal to the Christian faith. Yashar Ali, the prominent journalist with more than 700,000 followers on the site, shared a screenshot and said, ‘I know what Candace’s tweets mean.'”

Perhaps Candace Owens can clarify the issues herself?

For those wondering what could be wrong with proclaiming “Christ is King,” the unfortunate reality is that this beautiful, biblically based truth has been hijacked by elements of the extreme religious right, often with anti-Semitic implications.

I pointed this out in my Aug. 8 article denouncing an anti-Semitic rant by Nick Fuentes, where he said (to rousing applause and shouts of affirmation), “‘Word is getting out that we got to rid of Jewish power in America,’ and despite ‘them’ doing everything in their power to stop it—censoring and canceling and killing—’we are here to say that America is not a Jewish nation. America is a Christian nation.'”

I noted that, “You’ve got to see the video for yourself, but, to paint the picture here in words, at this point in the speech, on the screen behind him, giant angel wings flap on his right and left, as if he was some kind of angelic messenger. It really does seem like a sick attempt at satire. But I repeat, it is not.

“In fact, in response to his proclamation that America is a Christian nation not a Jewish nation, the crowd begins to chant, ‘Christ is King! Christ is King!'”

In his view (and the view of his followers) Christ is King over the world and therefore King over America, not just in a spiritual sense but in the sense of “let’s take this country back from the Jews.” The chant was hardly biblical at all.

A Dec. 1, 2022 article on the Religion News site stated that, “During a livestream in June, Fuentes advocated for ‘Catholic Taliban rule in America,’ explaining that such a regime would ban same-sex marriage and contraception. His followers, known as Groypers, were a consistent presence at anti-vaccine and anti-abortion rallies in 2021, often holding aloft crucifixes and chanting ‘Christ is king!'”

More than 10 months earlier, on Jan. 26, 2022, an article posted on the Pulitzer Center website noted that, “When supporters of former President Donald Trump rallied near the White House on Jan. 6 of last year, a boisterous pocket of young men waving ‘America First’ flags broke into a chant: ‘Christ is King!’ It was one of the first indications that Christian nationalism would be a theme of the Capitol attack later that day, where insurrectionists prayed and waved banners that read ‘Proud American Christian.'”

Writing on Feb. 6, 2022, Greg Williams explained that,

“The crowd chanted ‘Christ is King!’ at the March for Life in Washington, DC this January. They chanted it last January too, when an insurrection broke into the US Capitol and attempted to overthrow the government.”

That chant is now a calling card of Nick Fuentes and America First—a podcast, conference and community within the broader white Christian nationalist movement. It also happens to be a core proclamation of Christians through the centuries.

When I say ‘Christ is King,’ I mean something very different from what Fuentes means. While there is a long history of Christian support for violent racism—even using that very same language—a proper theological understanding of ‘Christ is King’ ought to compel us to live at peace with our neighbors.”

To be sure, the vast majority of Christians who participated in the March for Life would absolutely and unequivocally denounce the idea of a Catholic (or, Christian) Taliban. It is likely the same can be said of the great majority of Christians who gathered in DC on that fateful Jan. 6, 2021.

But without a doubt, there is a growing minority that connects “America first” with the proclamation of “Christ is King” in a way that perverts the very meaning of those Jesus-exalting words.

Yes, Jesus is King and will always be King. He was born a King, died a King, reigns in heaven as King and will return as King—in fact, as King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev. 19:16). For myself, as Jewish follower of Jesus, I unashamedly proclaim Him as the Messianic King and the Savior and Lord of all. And yes, in His name and authority we are called to go and make disciples of the nations (Matt. 28:18-20)

But to use “Christ is King” as a political slogan, especially one with racist and anti-Semitic overtones, is to bring disgrace on that holy and beautiful name.

I certainly hope this is not what Candace Owens meant. A clarification is certainly called for.

We dare not mess with such sacred words. {eoa}

Lecrae Shares Testimony of Deconstruction to Find Greater Faith in Christ

In a newly released video, Christian rapper and music artist Lecrae shared his powerful testimony of deconstruction and how he ultimately found his way to a greater and more in-depth relationship with Jesus.

After struggling with the sentiments of evangelicalism during varying cultural events, Lecrae realized that some topics are more politically-charged and polarizing than what he believes should be. He also began to notice that religiosity is, in many ways, a bigger stronghold over the Christian community than actual fear or desire for the Lord. Instead, he warns that many times what people are after instead is a production.

“We see people showing up on Sunday to come to a play or a Broadway presentation,” Lecrae said. “They’re disconnected from one another. There’s not really genuine fellowship; you don’t know if you’ll see the same people from week-to-week.”

Lecrae says that while churches try to institute community groups to help bring believers together, they don’t always serve the proper purpose that the early church had in mind when they earnestly came together in fellowship.

“There’s no real connectivity or genuine relationships, so a lot of churches’ institutions have had to create these things called community groups hoping to facilitate some community, but that even becomes awkward because now you’re forcing people to connect and like, jive together instead of like, an authentic way of living amongst each ‘s not about, ‘Oh man, I haven’t been to the institution with a good speaker in a long time,’ no; but are you connected to people who love Jesus?”

Lecrae shared that while he did try for a period of time to completely wander away from God, it was his friends and family who were able to build him up through his healing process back to the foundation of Christ. He does warn that while there are certain things that need to be altered from our thought process about Christianity, he doesn’t advocate for people to try to find morality outside of Jesus.

“When most millennials say ‘deconstruction,’ what they’re saying is they have decided to tear down their belief system. Many of them are saying, ‘hey, what does life without Jesus look like? What does morality, what does marriage, all these particular things look like if I do away with this faith that I had in Jesus,'” Lecrae explained. “What I believe is healthy deconstruction is keeping Christ as the foundation. He says He’s the cornerstone, and then tearing down these walls around Him that have been built by our societies and civilizations that have way more culture and tradition than they have truth in them.”

As many Christians are deciding to leave the faith, Lecrae’s message comes at a powerful time for Christians to reflect on the reasons why young adults and others are choosing to follow after the world instead of Christ. May we root ourselves on the foundation of who Jesus is and who He is presented to us in Scripture as so we can be the light of the world instead of simply chasing after the next big Sunday event.

The Pilgrims’ Devastating Experiment With Socialism

Before Marx, the Soviet Union, Cuba and Venezuela, socialism was tried here on American soil by the Pilgrims, and it miserably failed.

The Pilgrims were funded in their journey by a group of English businessmen, who required them to live communally for seven years until their debt was repaid with interest. This meant that there was no private ownership and there were no rewards for individual labor.

Instead, everyone worked fields owned by the plantation. The harvest went into a common fund from which each family received an equal portion for their sustenance. The remainder was used to pay their debt. The same was true of goods and money obtained by fishing and trapping furs. The wealth was spread around and evenly distributed.

They were all equal.

The Pain of Socialism

William Bradford, who served as Governor of Plymouth for over 30 years, told of the challenges of this socialist system. Young men, he said, resented getting paid the same as older men when they did so much more of the work. As a result, they tended to slouch and give only a half-hearted effort since they knew they would receive the same, no matter how hard they worked.

The older men felt they deserved more honor and recompense because of their age and resented getting paid the same as the youngsters in their midst. Bradford said that the women often refused to go to the fields to work, complaining of headaches, and to have compelled them to go would have been considered tyranny and oppression.

This socialist system discouraged work and innovation. It also produced strife and dissension, which further robbed the inhabitants of energy and output. The system almost destroyed the colony.

When it became obvious that lack and, perhaps, starvation would be their lot, Bradford and the leaders of the colony decided to make a change. After much prayer and discussion, they decided to dispense with that part of the agreement that required them to live communally and to replace it with a free enterprise system.

The Gain of Free Enterprise

According to Bradford, they then divided the land around them, allotting to each family a certain portion that would be theirs to work and use for their own needs. Bradford said there was an immediate change. The young men began to work much harder because they knew they would enjoy the fruit of their own labors. There were no more complaints from the older men for the same reason. And now the women were seen going into the fields to work, taking the children with them, because they knew that they and their families would benefit personally.

Instead of lacking food, each family now grew more food and corn than they needed, and they began to trade with one another for furnishings, clothes and other goods.

They also had enough excess to trade with the Indians for furs and other items. In short, the colony began to prosper when it got rid of its socialist form of government and implemented a free, entrepreneurial system. Of their experience with socialism, Bradford wrote:

“This [socialist] community was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort . . . and showed the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s, and applauded by some of later times, that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God.”

We Must Learn from History

Bradford believed that socialism did not work because it runs counter to human nature as created by God. In Scripture, God rewards individuals for their labor and good works. Capitalism works because it is compatible with the reality of human nature and the world in which we live.

Whether the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela or New England, socialism has failed wherever it has been tried. We should, therefore, remember the words of Winston Churchill, “Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” {eoa}

Michael Brown: The ‘Flares’ of Asbury Continue Stoking Global Revival

Dr. Michael Brown knows all about revival and how to recognize it. He was a huge part of the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola, Florida, that began in 1995 and lasted nearly five years.

But, Brown warns, that when many believers experience revival—especially these days—they simply are not capable of sustaining it. Brown says many are unaware of how God wants to work and how He wants revival to spread through a church that can not only be biblically illiterate but oblivious to how He wants to move.

Brown says church members can pray for years—and sometimes decades—but still not see the fire of God fall like it has in places like Brownsville, Azusa Street and Toronto, Canada, all places in the past that saw God’s glory shine through and souls get saved by the thousands.

“It may take that long some times for God to move people out of their rut, for God to shake our communities; for conviction to fall on the lost and for the church to step into its destiny,” Brown told Charisma magazine. “We know something has to change, but the outpouring comes and gets short-circuited along the way. It never sees its full potential because we don’t know what to do when the fire falls. We don’t know how to steward the flames of revival.”

A prime example of that can be seen in the Asbury Revival that took place earlier in 2023. On Feb. 8, what began as a routine Wednesday morning chapel service on the campus of Asbury University in Kentucky among a small group of students turned into what the school now calls a “multiweek” outpouring.

Led by students, the services attracted college students from not only across the country but around the world. People came to Wilmore, Kentucky, from as far away as Russia and Japan, and the “outpouring” caught the attention of the world’s media with countless reports of life-changing salvations and rededications to Christ.

Long lines formed just to get into Hughes Chapel, sometimes extending a half-mile long around the campus.

Yet, the outpouring ended on campus on Feb. 24, and no similar services have been held at Asbury. While the enthusiasm for God spread to other college campuses, the revival died down and quickly lost its spark at universities across the country.

Brown says there are many reasons for why the Asbury campus revival didn’t—or couldn’t—last.

Get your FREE CHARISMA NEWSLETTERS today! Stay up-to-date with current issues, Holy Spirit news, Christian teachings, Charisma videos & more!

“Number one, I don’t believe it was supposed to be the place where everybody came flocking,” Brown says. “I’ve felt clearly for years that there’s going to be an outpouring in thousands of different places all over America. Of course, God’s moving already all over the world.

“That’s why I was so felt so burdened to get my new book out—’Seize the Moment: How to Fuel the Fires of Revival’to help equip pastors leaders that have never experienced this what to do. It’s one thing to talk about preparation for you know for hurricanes coming to your community and boarding up the house and having supplies and things like that. It’s another thing when a hurricane hits and you have no idea what it is.

“Now, you’re in the midst of it and it’s a little too late to get ready. I’ve known for years that it’s not just going to be one place. Of course, in many places already around America, the Spirit has been moving dramatically. There have been sustained outpourings for years in different churches with multiplied thousands of new converts and lives changed. So Asbury leadership saying this is not the place where everyone’s coming and we’re not holding public meetings, I felt that was absolutely right.”

Brown says the fire that fell from Asbury indeed fell on many other college campuses—as many as 100-plus he had heard at one point—and that the lives of many students continue to be touched despite the flame flickering out at Asbury.

And it’s not simply happening on college campuses, Brown says. In January, he was asked to preach on revival at a church plant in Englewood, Colorado. It was a church he said that had grown rapidly with a strong emphasis on prayer and seeking the face of God.

When the Spirit fell upon Asbury University, Brown said the Colorado pastor wondered why it hadn’t happened at his church.

Shortly after, however, the fire did fall on that church in a Sunday morning service, and it continued throughout the day and into the next morning. Brown says that church has been continuously in prayer and worship “24/7” ever since.

Dr brown Seize moment“People may not know the connection there, but it’s one of these things that the spirit is at work,” Brown says. “I know, years ago, when I began to hear reports of the Holy Spirit’s falling here, the Holy Spirit’s falling there, it didn’t make me want to chase what was happening as much as saying OK, this is it. This is the season.”

Brown says that the verse he is using for his new book is Zechariah 10:1, which reads, “Ask for rain from the Lord during the season of the latter spring rains. And the Lord will make the storm winds; and he will give them showers of rain; and he will have vegetation in the field.”

“There are times when God moves,” Brown says. “Isaiah 55:6 says seek the Lord while He’s near. Call upon Him while He may be found, There are these seasons and moments of revival, and we have to grab hold of them. Asbury to me was just a flare going up by God to get national attention to the subject of revival. Definitely, the fires have gone out from there to touch many and I expect that to increase.” {eoa}

The Mystery of the Days of Awe

Jonathan Cahn’s Latest Book Reveals Stunning Parallels Between Bible Holy Days and Events In Our Time

Could the shocking events of modern times, even of recent years, be the outplaying of mysteries going back two and a half thousand years?

Could a 3,000-year-old calendar of appointed days in the Bible lie behind the shaking of America in recent times?

These questions and more are asked and answered in Jonathan Cahn’s latest blockbuster bestseller The Josiah Manifesto: The Ancient Mystery And Guide For the End Times, released in September by Charisma Media’s Frontline. In it, Cahn addresses the questions that many Christians are asking today in light of current events rocking our world:

  • What does the future hold?
  • Is America heading for calamity?
  • Is there hope?
  • Have we been given a last chance, and is it possible to alter the future?
  • What do we need to know in order to survive and prevail in the days ahead?

The Josiah Manifesto opens up an ancient mystery that foretold the shakings that would come on America,” says Cahn, “not only what would happen – but when. It begins in Leviticus 23, in which the Moedeem, the appointed times of God, are laid. Each one holds a mystery that played out in modern times before our eyes.”

THE DAY OF THE PLAGUE

The first of God’s appointed days is that of Passover. Passover is unique in that it’s the only holy day of God that centers on a plague. Even the name Passover refers to the passing over the plague. Beyond that, Passover is the first recorded case of a national lockdown in world history. An entire nation was told to stay inside their houses and not come out because a plague was passing through the land.

Passover always falls in the spring, March/April. When it fell in 2020, America and the world were brought into the mystery of Passover. Almost all Americans were locked in their houses because a plague was passing through the land.

Meanwhile, the Jewish people were celebrating the ancient holy day – reciting the story of a plague passing through the land, and while an actual plague was passing through the land – remembering when they were in national lockdown in Egypt while they actually were in national lockdown.

“In Israel on Passover in 2020,” Cahn says, “the government ordered the entire nation to stay inside their houses because of a curfew and only come out in the morning. It was the first time that had happened since the days of Moses in Egypt.”

Cahn points out that Jesus is the Passover Lamb. “Our faith is a Passover faith. America and much of the western world has turned away from that Lamb and that faith. But in 2020, America and the world was brought back into Passover as the mystery replayed in the modern world in real time and space – before our eyes.”

THE FIRE OF GOD

The mystery didn’t stop with Passover. “The next appointed holy feast,” Cahn says, “is called Shavuot – which in Greek is Pentecost. Pentecost is all about the fire of God – the tongues of fire coming down to the Upper Room, the baptism fire, the fire of the Spirit. And just as the Feast was approaching, fire comes upon America. Its cities go up in flames. It all explodes and leads into the ‘Summer of Rage.’

TJM NYTBS 2

With cities on fire, Cahn points to the stunning correlation. “May 28th – the day that the Jewish people were lighting candles to begin Shavuot or Pentecost — that’s the very day that the fire of the riots explode across America. And that weekend, the Christians celebrated the fire of the spirit while the land is being shaken by fire across the cities.”

THE EVIL DECREE OVERTURNED

The next holy day is the Feast of Trumpets. It comes in September. It is known in the Jewish world as Yom Ha Din – meaning ‘The Day of Judgment.’ It’s seen as a shadow of the Day of Judgment. Jews believe that at that time, God in the high court of heaven, passes judgment on the righteous and the unrighteous. So it’s a time of repentance, to get right with God.

“Just as the Feast of Trumpets came, the ‘day of the high court,’ God touches the high court of America. It is believed that on Trumpets, God ordains who will ‘pass from the earth.’ So on that day, the Supreme Court was altered – one of its justices passed from the earth, Judge Ruth Ginsburg. Ginsburg was strongly pro-abortion. But it was her passing and her passing alone that opened the door for Roe V. Wade to be overturned.

“The Feast of Trumpets is the day that ushers in the time of repentance, when a nation is to turn away from its sin. So on the Feast of Trumpets, 2020, an event took place that opened the door for America and the Supreme Court to begin turning away from its sin, departing from the evil of Roe v. Wade. And all it began on God’s day of repentance, judgment, and most high court.”

WHAT DOES IT MEAN AND WHAT LIES AHEAD?

The stunning parallels between the ancient Bible calendar and current events should be a sign to us today. “It means the God of the Bible is real!” says Cahn. “His invisible hand is guiding these things, into the outworking of His purposes. And He will work all things, the good and the bad, together for the good of those who follow Him. We, as the righteous, must trust Him to fulfill His purposes in our lives.”

So what happens next?

“It all depends on what the nation does with the chance it has been given,” says Cahn. “This is the moment we find ourselves in. We need to pray that the church awakens and takes her rightful place. This is a time to stand courageously and not follow the ways of the world – to not allow them in our homes or our hearts.”

Cahn says the heart of the message of The Josiah Manifesto is deeply personal to him. “I believe this can be the greatest time for God’s people. The dark has gotten darker, but this is the time for Josiahs to rise up. This is the time for Elijah, for the book of Acts. All of those things took place in dark times. So this could be our greatest hour, but we have to refuse to compromise. We cannot bow down. God has given us power — in every age and every circumstance — to overcome.”

Cahn says the days of being cultural Christians are over. “It’s time to become radical for God. It’s time to be revolutionary. It only takes one person or one generation or one group of people who are totally sold out to God to change the course of their nation or their world. We were born for such a time as this.” {eoa}

IHOPKC Announces Major Update in Bickle Investigation

In the wake of accusations that have rocked the Christian community, IHOPKC has developed and released a report on the initial findings of the investigation into founding pastor Mike Bickle.

The following present extracts from the initial findings report put forward by IHOPKC leadership:

Three weeks ago, on Oct. 24, a group of men led by a local Kansas City pastor, (the “Complaint Group”) officially presented IHOPKC’s Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”) with a series of allegations against Mike Bickle allegedly made by eight women whom the Complaint Group claimed to represent.

After three weeks of examination, IHOPKC has identified five of eight alleged victims.

Three of those five have publicly called the allegations lies, a fourth has not wanted to communicate with IHOPKC’s attorney, and the fifth’s allegations relate to incidents that preceded IHOPKC’s founding. Further, it became apparent that the Complaint Group did not have permission to include at least four of the women in their list of alleged victims.

We remain committed to verifying the remaining allegations, but we need the Complaint Group to assist in our inquiry of the remaining alleged victims to ensure their veracity. There is much at stake in getting to the truth.

Like many of you, we were deeply troubled and distressed to learn of the multiple allegations against Mr. Bickle. The ELT took these allegations very seriously and within 24 hours began the process of looking into the details, as well as asking Mr. Bickle to step away from public ministry to allow for a proper inquiry to be conducted.

Within days, the ELT commenced consultation of outside legal experts on how to conduct a proper examination of the facts and how to best handle the situation. Significantly, at all times, the allegations were treated as if they were credible in order to care for any past or present victim while objective due diligence was to be performed. However, upon review by outside legal counsel, it was determined that the collection and presentation of the allegations by the Complaint Group lacked any semblance of reliability or due process.

The document prepared by the Complaint Group to accompany the presentation of allegations on Oct. 24 does not contain any actual evidence: no statements from the victims, whether sworn or unsworn, and no emails, texts or other exhibits between Mr. Bickle and the alleged victim to substantiate the allegations (only blank squares as exhibit placeholders).

The Complaint Group’s allegations were also presented along with a list of pre-prepared demands “to prevent escalating levels of disclosure.” These demands and threats, which included dictating the use of IHOPKC’s funds, generated an atmosphere of concern regarding the true objectives of the Complaint Group.

Initial Findings:

On the week of Oct. 24, the Complaint Group presented a list of eight alleged victims to the IHOPKC leadership team. The Group did not, and has not, claimed that these women had ever previously made their allegations known to IHOPKC prior to October 2023.

However, it has become abundantly clear over the last three weeks that four of the women were presented as alleged victims without their consent.

Some of the Complaint Group’s allegations were presented in a document and some of the allegations were presented orally in conversation.

Three women were identified by their initials in the document. An additional five anonymous Jane Does are listed in the document but the Complaint Group would not share their names or any details about these allegations (or how these women came to be represented by the Complaint Group).

Then, IHOPKC was given the names of two additional women orally during conversations that took place the week of Oct. 24.

At that point, a total of five alleged victims had been identified by name.

Conclusion:

IHOPKC has heard the demands to bring in a third party to investigate the organization in general, but this step is premature until IHOPKC can establish the credibility of the allegations and genuine intent of the Complaint Group.

We hope that by sharing our preliminary findings regarding these allegations, you will understand why it is premature at this juncture to have a third party conduct a community-wide investigation.

IHOPKC remains open to inviting a third party (or even multiple third parties) to examine these findings. It is our sincerest desire that alleged anonymous Jane Does would come forward as soon as possible, either directly to IHOPKC’s attorney, via the Complaint Group or through their own legal representative, so that IHOPKC can then take the appropriate next steps.

*End of Report*

As the Christian community navigates the complexities of the initial report released by IHOPKC leadership regarding the accusations against Mike Bickle, it is crucial that we approach this situation with a measured and discerning perspective. Rushing to judgment serves neither justice nor truth. In times of difficulty, it is imperative that we allow the investigative process to unfold, with our trust planted firmly in the Lord bringing truth to light, while withholding premature conclusions until all facts are laid bare.

Only through patience and a commitment to the pursuit of truth can we hope to achieve a fair and just resolution. In the face of adversity, let us hold fast to the belief that, ultimately, truth will prevail. As we grapple with the intricacies of this challenging situation, may wisdom guide our thoughts, compassion temper our judgments and the pursuit of truth be our unwavering compass rooted firmly in the Word of God and the impartation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.{eoa}
