Billy Graham and Charles Spurgeon: Examples for Election Engagement

“Larry, I’m a pastor and I want to be like Billy Graham—preach the gospel! I don’t want to get involved in politics.”

Graham did preach the gospel and lots more. He told me personally (pointing to his Bible), “Stay in the book!”

Remember: Graham was an evangelist, not a pastor whose primary responsibility is to feed the flock, preach “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27b, NKJV) and equip the saints for works of service (Eph. 4:12) so we fulfill our mandate to be “salting” society, holding back decay and not simply trying to avoid controversy.

He did both as God’s ambassador, announcing the gospel plus addressing the evils of his day: atheistic communism; segregation and racism (front-page headline in South Africa: “Billy Graham Calls Apartheid Sin!”); same-sex “marriage” and sexual immorality. He and his son Franklin placed a full-page statement in the Charlotte Observer exposing gay marriage and upholding biblical marriage between a man and a woman.

In the mid-1800s, Charles Spurgeon, prince of preachers, was a master Bible teacher, believing in the sufficiency of Scripture to address all issues as he emphasized the sovereignty of God and called for repentance. I love his famous quote: “Bold-hearted men are always called mean-spirited by cowards!”

He spoke out boldly against slavery, causing his sermons to be burned in America. He said,

I often hear it said, “Do not bring religion into politics.” This is precisely where it ought to be brought. … The Cabinet and Parliament do the work of the nation as before the Lord … We have had enough of clever men without conscience, let us now see what honest, God-fearing men will do. … Let the policies which are founded on wrong be cast like idols to the moles and to the bats.  Whether we are kings, or queens, or prime ministers, or members of parliament, or crossing sweepers, this is our rule if we are Christians.

Free Speech

Spurgeon speaks to us in America today. Multitudes have been misled regarding the “separation of church and state,” (which appears nowhere in our founding documents) and correctly interpreted means freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

Many have been misled by the so-called Johnson Amendment (1954) used to intimidate and muzzle pastors afraid of losing tax exempt status, causing scores to refrain from any advocacy or opposition to political candidates or legislation. Truth be told, the IRS has never actually revoked the tax-exempt status of any church for violating this unconstitutional policy. The Alliance Defending Freedom is currently working to once and for all eliminate this measure (contact them for any caution or clarification).

Are you aware that prior to 1954, churches and ministries never had any problem speaking about political issues and political leaders? 

Spurgeon was not afraid to address controversial issues such as freedom of speech. He spoke on other political issues:  slavery, which he branded as the “foulest blot;” corruption in government (excoriating a “tyrant king”); using his monthly magazine “The Sword and the Trowel” to address societal events, which were mild compared to today. He refused to go woke as he spoke out about compromise and what he believed to be unscriptural practices, eventually departing his Baptist Union denomination and being “canceled” by colleagues and friends.

There is a cost to being a person of conviction. I know this firsthand, as I experienced the same thing along my ministry journey. After doing a biblical based video called “Is Gay OK?” the top leader of the church where I served said it was a “deal breaker”: “Just go and don’t come back.”

Applied Today

Do you really think Spurgeon, a man of strong convictions, would have been silent if a young girl in his congregation had teen boys come into her bathroom or changing room? Would he have been mute if leaders in London were endorsing and celebrating taxpayer-funded abortion up until the moment of birth and beyond? Would he have turned a deaf ear to English magistrates pushing surgical mutilation of young children in the name of “gender care,” pornography distributed in schools, calls for defunding police, and parades of homosexuals and undressed lesbians openly in the streets of London along with drag queen presentations in elementary schools?

Would Spurgeon simply look the other way if over 1 million unborn babies were slaughtered in the womb yearly? How about 100,000 dying yearly from drugs coming into the U.K. from “open borders?” Or 100,000 children declared missing, with scores ending up in sex trafficking, rape and horrible deaths? 

Is this “loving our neighbor” to allow this on our watch and support politicians who have this blood on their hands? Let’s be real: Is simply studying books of the Bible and avoiding hot-button issues getting the job done?

“So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17, NASB).

1. Complacent. Sadly, there are many in the pulpit who have “left [their] first love” (Rev. 2:4b, NKJV) and are merely maintaining status quo religious services to make a living and wait out the clock until it’s time to recalibrate careers or comfortably retire.

2. Compromising. Tragically, some are caving to “woke” cultural pressures and betraying the call to “contend for the faith … once delivered” (Jude1:3) and choosing to yield to the fear of man and societal acceptance.

3. Cowardly. Those first cast in the lake of fire (see Rev. 21:8b) are those who submit to the fear of man, lacking biblical convictions in these “times that try men’s souls,” they’re afraid of losing members, tithers and maybe their salary and next mortgage payment.

4. Courageous. Billy Graham said, “Courage is contagious!” and the good news today is that many are awakening to bring both grace and truth, declaring the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27b) in one of the most serious moments in America’s history.

Rick Joyner Issues Statement Following Chris Reed’s MorningStar Exit

Rick Joyner, founder of MorningStar Ministries, released a lengthy statement following the exit of CEO and president, Chris Reed. Reed resigned on Monday, Aug. 26.

In a statement posted to X, Joyner attempted to clear up the chaos and confusion that many may have felt after Reed’s sudden resignation.

“Chris Reed has resigned as president and CEO of MorningStar Ministries. This resignation may seem bizarre and confusing to those who have followed it, and I hope to clear some things up,” Joyner writes.

“This is a serious situation, the type of which I have witnessed several times over the 50-plus years I’ve been in ministry. I have seen it rob people with very powerful gifts of years of effective ministry. This has happened to me, as deception came upon me and cost me more than 10 years of ministry. I saw it cost Bob Jones eight years, and I think it cost Paul Cain his ultimate purpose. It is the most deceptive spirit I’ve ever dealt with, and right now I think Chris Reed is in a battle for his future.”

Joyner writes that he will express more details later on, and notes how he has seen many Christians led away from their purpose by deception. While some waver and will wander away for good, Joyner says it is those who find their way back to the God-given gifts and purpose they were created for who are ultimately used for even greater good.

“…I never give up on anyone, regardless of how far off they seem to get. Many of the great voices in Scripture and history also experienced this. Not all recovered, but those who did were used in an even greater way.

“Chris has an important calling for this time, and I feel at least partially responsible, understanding this as I do, for not seeing this coming at him. I could have done better helping him resist it. Even so, whether in a short or long time, I am confident Chris will get through this and take his place doing what he is called to do.”

Joyner clarified that this does not mean that being part of MorningStar Ministries costs people their calling as many are placed there for only a season in life. He also elaborated more on the sexual assault case that Reed wrote about in his statement.

“As for the scandal referenced in Chris’ resignation letter, several of the youth at MorningStar were sexually abused by a volunteer worker who was a police officer,” Joyner writes. “This is true. As soon as we heard about it, we called the police, who investigated the complaint and arrested the police officer who subsequently resigned from the Cornelius (North Carolina) Police Department.”

Joyner states that the former officer is facing charges related to giving minors alcohol and pornography. Joyner says these events did not happen on the MorningStar campus. He also claims that the ministry was cooperative with the investigation, helping to give the victims care. However, Joyner says one family still proceeded to sue MorningStar.

“Overall, we felt that the victims and their families dealt with this with remarkable grace, but one decided to sue us. They alleged many outrageous things about the ministry that are not true. None of the leaders at MorningStar were charged nor were in any way involved in this criminal activity.”

Joyner writes that MorningStar brought in an independent agency to investigate the scenario to determine whether or not any negligence occurred on their end. It was concluded that the ministry had done nothing wrong. Joyner claims that the statements made in the lawsuit are so outlandish that the ministry plans on going to court instead of settling to prove their innocence.

Despite these accusations, Joyner says that what happened to the youth is devastating.

“This being said, we are grieved by what happened to these young men and the hurt this has caused. We have offered to take care of counseling or ministry needed by the families involved.”

“I’ve had a lot of encounters,” Souza says, “I had an encounter with a was a direct connection to my family being involved. They didn’t create the hybrid, but they were stolen from to create the hybrid [and] I saw the hybrid.”

A Nephilim hybrid, as L.A. Marzulli previously pointed out, is the combination of a human and a fallen angel. Unlike humans, hybrids are without a soul.

Souza says she has also dealt with shapeshifters as well. While many believe these entities only exist in films, Souza says that is far from the truth.

“This werewolf was on assignment to take out a bride of Christ that had been rescued,” says Souza. “They were grooming her to be the bride of Satan that had been rescued from the cult, and so the werewolf came as a punisher because a werewolf is an assassin. And I got in the way, and so I was almost targeted by that same werewolf.”

Besides the reality of this demonic entities being real and present on the earth today, Souza also warns that the enemy tries to use trauma to fracture us, making it easier to place people in bondage.

“Having the dissociative identities form in us through trauma of our soul to be taken captive in hell,” says Souza. “That’s why the Bible says repeatedly ‘thou shall not leave thy soul in hell.’ That is a promise to us because God knew that the enemy would use trauma to fragment us, to shatter us.”

No matter what kind of darkness you’ve found yourself in, there is a power much greater than all the demonic forces and entities, and that is Jesus Christ. It is by His Holy Spirit that we are fully healed, made whole and set free.

Can a Witch Astral Project Into a Christian’s House?

Is it possible for a witch to astral project into a believer’s house?

With the growth of witchcraft across the U.S., topics like astral projection have become more frequent. Astral projection, which involves a person leaving their physical body through the spiritual realm, is completely demonic. It’s a tactic used by those steeped in witchcraft to move themselves through the spirit into other physical locations. “I have a different view of that. I just don’t believe that the angel of the Lord that encamps around them that fear the Lord fails at their job and just allows witches to astral project in your house,” Pagani says.

He further makes the point that the angels assigned to guard us would not be doing the very thing that God has commissioned them to do, and that’s to protect His children. While Pagani doesn’t have the full answers as to whether or not if it’s possible for a witch to astral project into a believer’s home, his challenge still stands to those working in the demonic realm.

“I wish a witch would try to come in this house,” Pagani challenges.

Joni Lamb’s Stunning Prophetic Vision Involving Marcus Lamb

Sometimes God gives us a vision that helps to shift our focus onto the things that matter.

In a recent video posted by Daystar, Joni Lamb revealed how God gave her a prophetic vision about her late husband, and the three things God uncovered to her through this encounter.

“This has been a couple of months ago, actually, I had a vision, a kind of a waking heard the voice of my late husband, Marcus Lamb,” Joni shares.

While she did not see Marcus in the dream-like vision, she heard his voice. It was then through this vision that she heard three distinct things she needed to know.

“He said three things to me,” Lamb says. “The first thing he said was, ‘Joni, what was the number one thing that I taught you?’ And immediately I said, ‘persistence.’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ he said ‘You must be persistent.'”

The second thing Marcus shared with Joni in the vision is that it is okay for her to remind God of the promises He made to her.

“The second thing he said to me was, ‘It’s okay to remind God about those things that He’s promised,'” Lamb says.

While we don’t have to keep asking and begging God the things that He’s promised to give us, Lamb points out that we can remind God of the conversations we’ve had with Him about the good and faithful things He’s promised for our lives.

The last thing Joni heard in the vision was a watchman’s warning for the time we’re entering into.

“He said, ‘You and Doug need to international event.’ He said, ‘It’s happening at 10 p.m,'” says Lamb.

While she didn’t initially understand this statement, one of Joni’s friends helped her to decode the meaning behind this specific time given to her in the vision.

“She said, ’10 p.m. is two hours before the midnight cry,'” Lamb explains.

This call to keep an eye on international events during the end times before the return of Christ is one that we all should heed.

In the parable of the 10 virgins, it was at midnight when the women saw the bridegroom coming, and it was only the wisest ones who had brought oil for their lamps, keeping their light illuminated. The rest had to go and buy oil for their lamps, and by that time it was too late. The bridegroom didn’t know who they were. Just as we do not know exactly when Christ will return, we are called to keep watch at all times for the coming of the midnight hour, so that when He arrives His children are prepared.

This call to Joni Lamb can be a call for all of us to stay persistent, hold onto the promises of God and to wait patiently and be prepared for the returning of our Lord.

Army National Guard Commander Ousted Over Public Christian Statements

An Idaho Army National Guard officer was removed from his position after voicing his Christian beliefs. Liberty Counsel has since filed a complaint against the Idaho Army National Guard, demanding that the officer’s position be restored.

The officer relayed his Christian beliefs on his social media, sharing his perspectives on gender ideology and the sexualization of children. His comments offended a “subordinate senior enlisted man who claims to be homosexual,” Liberty Counsel wrote in a report on the matter.

One of the comments made by the Christian officer was, “No child is born in the wrong body.”

The “subordinate senior enlisted man” claimed that the Christian officer’s beliefs show “just how much [the officer] truly hates the LGBTQ community.” He added that the situation created an “uncomfortable, unsafe, and a hostile work environment, making it increasingly challenging for me to perform my duties effectively.

“With the active ties to the extremist/hate group, it makes me feel threatened and unsafe. All the posts on his social media and how public he is about his hate towards individuals like me and my family. Not just for me but for my husband and my child,” the subordinate senior enlisted man complained.

According to Liberty Counsel, the Idaho Army National Guard violated the “First Amendment, Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the Idaho Constitution, and the Free Exercise of Religious Protection Act.”

The legal group has informed Idaho Governor Brad Little (R) of the matter and urged the Idaho Army National Guard to “‘unsubstantiate’ the discriminatory investigating officer’s findings and recommendations; reject the discriminatory policy regarding religious speech; dismiss the frivolous subordinate senior enlisted man’s complaint and restore the officer’s career.”

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said in a statement, “Governor Brad Little must ensure that the Idaho Army National Guard uphold federal and state law and protect the free speech of enlisted personnel. This discrimination against an officer based on a frivolous complaint must be addressed and his record cleared and career restored.”

Breaking News: Chris Reed Steps Down from MorningStar Ministries

Reed, who has served as both the CEO and the president of MorningStar, turned in his resignation on Monday, Aug. 26, and is now handing the ministry back over to Rick Joyner.

In a statement posted on X, Chris Reed shared how difficult the decision was for him to step away from MorningStar.

“After MUCH prayer, thought, and consideration, along with Missy and trusted friends, I have decided to fully and immediately step down from all leadership responsibilities at MorningStar Ministries. This includes my role as CEO, President, and Senior Pastor of the Fort Mill Church, turning the ministry back over to Rick Joyner, the founder of MorningStar. I submitted by letter of resignation on Monday, August 26, 2024, and it was graciously accepted.”

Reed acknowledges that this decision will be a shock for many people, and he is “heartbroken.”

“I know this may come as a surprise, and perhaps even a shock, to some of you. Please believe me when I say this was not an easy decision. I am heartbroken. There are many reasons behind this choice, but primarily, after three years of serving here, including over a year as CEO and President, I have come to realize that I cannot continue in this role.”

Reed reaffirmed that the call on his life to work in ministry is still active, and he will continue to pursue this calling to share the gospel.

“My calling has always been, and remains, to prophesy, pastor, teach, preach, and write. That is why I have made the decision to return fully to what God has called me to.”

Reed is going to work on creating a web-based model of house churches that have regional leaders. He will also continue his work leading and training others through a prophetic online school. In the future, Reed desires to relocate to a different part of South Carolina and begin a new church.

He further acknowledged allegations about a former volunteer and police officer committing sexual crimes against minors. Reed says these crimes happened before he assumed leadership duties, and that it was reported immediately to authorities.

“As many of you are aware, in the late spring of 2023, allegations surfaced over a former volunteer and police officer. These crimes took place before I took over. We immediately told the police and this was reported in the news. I never met the man or his family. The individual committed terrible crimes against minors. Missy and I stand unequivocally with the victims and their families. I condemn his actions in the strongest possible terms. This is also why I hired an external group to train our staff on sexual abuse awareness and how to safeguard minors.”

Reed says that both he and his wife, Missy, were sexually abused as children by people outside their families, and so this topic hits close to home as it is something he says has “haunted me throughout my life since it happened when I was just seven years old.”

Reed ended the document by thanking everyone at MorningStar for the opportunity he had to work with them and create lasting friendships. He also apologized for the inconvenience and disruption that his exit may cause.

Singer Pauses Concert to Share Powerful Message: ‘Jesus Christ Loves You’

Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the rock band 3 Doors Down, caught attention this month for powerful comments he made about Jesus and faith during a concert at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania.

Before belting out the band’s song “Away From the Sun” at the show on Aug. 23, Arnold told the audience he started feeling compelled two years ago to share an important message with fans during his performances.

He then asked for just a few moments to tell the thousands gathered that God loves them, according to . It was a truly moving monologue.

“I feel like I can identify with this song more than most of our songs,” he said, calling “Away From the Sun” his favorite of the band’s ballads. “This world surrounds by a message we’ll never be good enough, we’ll never be strong enough, we’ll never be beautiful enough, we’ll never be rich enough.”

Arnold wasn’t done there, calling out a “lie” he believes is perpetuated on social media and in other facets of life: that we’ll never be truly loved and that we’ll never “win.”

“My friends, I just want to take a second to tell you — that’s an absolute lie,” he said. “You are loved. You are enough, and you will win. Not only can you win, but you will win. You’ll always be enough for one reason, and that’s because Jesus Christ loves you.”

Shortly before his death a year ago, Mylon LeFevre, American Christian rock singer and longtime member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, sowed an extravagant seed offering through the ministry of his friend Kenneth Copeland. LeFevre was near the end of a battle with cancer before his death at age 79 in September 2023.

“He was believing in God for healing,” Copeland recounted at the time, noting the rare and outsized offering in the form of a Bentley luxury car outfitted with a Breitling clock, itself nearly the value of the car. In the words of pastor Greg Locke, “We all need to navigate that sacrificial crossroads along our journey,” and giving, regardless of the size and cost, begins and ends as a heart matter, not a wallet matter.

Believers engaged in God’s kingdom work are stewards of His resources in time, talent and treasure. LeFevre was blessed with talent and in his career, both in longevity and rewards among God’s blessings, enabling him to make such a generous offering near the end of his life.

LeFevre was also a Grammy and Dove Award-winning artist. In 1961, when he was just 17, his song “Without Him” was recorded by Elvis Presley, the single later appearing on Presley’s 1967 Grammy Award-winning album, “How Great Thou Art.”

LeFevre worked with many famous musicians, including Eric Clapton and George Harrison, while his song “Without Him” was recorded by over 100 artists over the decades. In 2005, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
