End-Times Prophecy: What Will Turkey’s Role Be in the Battle of Gog vs. Magog?

Note: This is the second of a three-part series. Click here for part one.

In this suspenseful section of Ezekiel (Chapters 38-39), the prophet identifies three reasons the coalition of Islamic neighbors will seek to annihilate the Jewish nation, in these “latter days.”

In his analysis, pastor/teacher David Jeremiah classifies them in Ezekiel 38 as 1. to seize Israel’s land (vv. 11-12), 2. to steal Israel’s wealth (vv. 12-13) and 3. to slaughter Israel’s people (vv. 11-12, 16).

At the beginning of this chapter, Ezekiel lists the invading allies (vv. 1-6) before describing the actual invasion (vv. 7-17). We read these verses with interest, knowing of Russia’s aggressive activities over the past 100 years. As mentioned last time, some believe the leader of this aggression will actually not be Russia but modern-day Turkey (thought to be named in verse six as Togarmah), with its transparent aspirations to restore an Islamic Caliphate to the region, if not to the whole world!

Russia is “far north” of Israel (38:15; 39:2) and, on a flat map, Moscow is directly north of Jerusalem. But, on a world globe or a map adjusted for the curvature of the earth, Turkey is also north of Israel. In fact, adjusting for the global factors, Ankara, Turkey is due north of Jerusalem, Israel.

The Turkish Ottoman Caliphate ruled over the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries for over 400 years before mistakenly aligning with Germany in World War I. It suffered the military consequences and the Allied distribution of its powers and territories. Turkey’s current “president” is a near dictator and, while the country is a member of the NATO Alliance, is continuing to exert influence and control over many of the countries of the former Ottoman Empire.

Historical records indicate the names of “Rosh, Meshech and Tubal” were also known throughout “Asia Minor,” which is part of what is Turkey today. So, this initial coalition, headed by a “prince” named “Gog, of the land of Magog,” may have been all in what is modern-day Turkey. So you might say, “The Turks are coming!”

It appears these allied (perhaps totally Islamic) armies will be overwhelmed from the very start of this campaign, as this otherwise superior force faces the forces of nature and nature’s God. The dramatic decimation commences with a “great earthquake,” which creates pandemonium among the fish, birds, mammals and humans! The mixed-language armies, gathered for war, start attacking each other (v. 21).

At the same time, thousands will die during an epidemic of disease among the invaders, followed by natural calamities of “an overflowing rain and hailstones, fire and brimstone” falling on the armies which remain alive (v. 22). Their dead bodies will “fall upon the mountains” and “fall upon the open field,” to be picked apart by scavenging birds and animals (v. 4-5).

Full-time search parties will scour the land for the dead. It will take Israel seven months to find and bury all the bones and bodies of the coalition’s dead, in order to carefully sanitize or “cleanse the land” (v. 12, 14, 16).

Why Voters Can’t Ignore the Murderous Evil of Abortion

Note: This is the second of a two-part article. For part one, click here.

I looked at every reference to Molech in the Bible. Perhaps you recall how the Lord commanded the children of Israel not to offer their children as human sacrifices to the pagan deity Molech. Sadly, Israel disobeyed God and offered their children as human sacrifices to the demon entity and false god.

What the Lord showed me in my word study of Molech was interesting, as I have read these passages multiple times before. The first occurrence of the command not to offer their children to Molech was in Leviticus 18:21, after several verses commanding them not to be involved with several types of sexual sin and deviance. It is hard to read—it is that vile.

Then they are warned not to offer their children to the false god Molech—it is an abomination. In fact, God warns that the sexual sin and offering children to Molech required Him to punish the people who lived there before them and if they did the same, it would cause the land to once again be defiled and to give the land reason to “vomit you out” (Lev. 18:28).

Church, I urge you to fervently pray and seek God for our nation in this hour. Our land has been defiled for decades by the rampant sexual sin and murder of our children. We have offered the unborn as sacrifices to a spirit of death because we have agreed with spirits of lust, perversion and sexual immorality. Our land has been defiled. Our cities are suffering, lawlessness has increased and murder is rampant. One could easily argue that a spirit of death dominates our land and that the land is now “vomiting us out.”

Church in America, consider carefully who you vote for this fall. Local, state and federal leaders must have biblical values and be pro-life. To ignore the evil of abortion threatens future generations in our nation.

My five-month-old grandson David is a joy and delight—as are all our children and grandchildren. He radiates the wonder of God, the beauty of life and a future hope. His smile is infectious, and he loves discovering the world around him. Seeing him brings joy to my heart and I experience another aspect of abundant life. Children are a blessing and inheritance from the Lord—every child, born or unborn, should be valued, loved and celebrated.

For anyone who has had an abortion or been involved in sexual immorality, there is forgiveness and healing in Jesus. There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk after the Spirit and not the flesh (Rom. 8:1). Jesus removes the shame, the guilt and the pain of the past—trust Him. Furthermore, as the Church rises in humility, repentance and prayer the Bible assures us God will grant mercy and send revival to our nation (2 Chron. 7:14).

Some states have restricted or limited abortion, making a stand against this evil and the radical Left’s agenda. As we continue to pray, inform others and make wise choices at the ballet box, leaders can be elected who will stand for righteousness and lobby to repeal Roe vs. Wade and end the scourge of death that has plagued our nation.

More Abundantly

One of the antidotes is a deeper understanding of John 10:10 (NKJV):

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Jesus is stating, “I came to give life abundantly, as a good shepherd or king, to My people. I will protect them from going out when they shouldn’t, and from enemies coming in.”

“Abundantly” used in John 10:10 translates from the Greek word perissos which means exceeding (the usual number or the usual measure), in John 10:10 perissos could be translated “have in superabundance.”

Consider the contrast: the enemy wants to rob and destroy, but God wants you to overflow with superabundance His love, grace and provision. The Lord has blessed America abundantly. Many are suffering, and much of the suffering is due to our agreement with the enemy’s deception and lies.

Recently the Lord reminded me of a verse most of us know by heart and relates to breaking free of the enemy’s deception regarding abortion and unrighteousness. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matt. 5:8). You might be wondering, “How does this apply to living an abundant life?” Let me answer by looking deeper at the words “pure” and “see” in this verse.

“Pure” is from the Greek katharós and means sincere, single-hearted, upright. We could say of this verse, “blessed or happy are those who are upright, sincere and have a single focus toward God.” When we are upright with God, focused upon Him, our motives and actions are pure. Purity then is a pathway to abundant life.

“See” is from the Greek horáō and means to see, perceive with the eyes, discern—implying not merely the act of seeing, but also the actual perception of some object. In a wider sense, to see God means to be admitted to His presence and special favor (Matt. 5:8).

We could say then that those who are upright, sincere and single-hearted toward God will be admitted into His presence with special favor. They will perceive God with their eyes and discern His presence and ways. To perceive God, to know God intimately, this is abundant life! This is the Lord’s desire for our lives individually and as a nation.

America, there is hope! Turn to the Lord, believe His promises and seek righteousness again—He will heal our land and restore what the enemy has stolen.

If you are not registered to vote, do so quickly and vote for candidates who are pro-life. Life matters, church! {eoa}

Canadian Prophetic Teacher Says the World Must Pray for America Right Now

Faith Marie Baczko may be Canadian, but as a prophetic teacher, she says everyone around the world should be praying for the United States at this time.

With its most important election in history coming up on Tuesday and the intense, prevailing political division and widespread lack of unity, Baczko, the president of Headstone International Ministries, says believers worldwide have a godly obligation to intercede for America right now. It’s why she believes God has made her a prophetic voice for a time such as this, which includes her podcast, Sound of the Trumpet, on the Charisma Podcast Network (CPN).

“The whole world is watching the United States right now, but everything that happens in the U.S. trickles down to everywhere else,” Baczko told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on CPN. “I am Canadian, so people have asked me, ‘Why are you so concerned about America and American politics?’

“It’s because I feel that America is the center of the Bible right now,” she said. “It’s the stronghold that the enemy needs to take down in order to take control and have dominion. This is the center of the battle, for all nations. Everyone must be involved in this battle and be praying for the United States right now because this is a critical moment of history.

“There’s a lot on the line during this election,” Baczko said. “So we are praying up here; we have intercessors all across the nation who are joining up, linking up and praying regularly, day and night, for the elections in America.

“I’ve sensed that there are some big things ahead we need to be prepared for,” she added. “So God gave me a lot of Scripture. One was in Isaiah 28, where the king of Babylon was at the fork of two roads and using divination to decide which way he was going. We can join in prayer and push back the darkness, and we can hinder the enemy’s plans and schemes.”

How the Church Is Responsible to Halt the Evil of Abortion This Election

To say we live in polarizing times is an understatement. As Christians, we should seek unity with each other and endeavor to “keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3, NKJV).

We should demonstrate to the world God’s love and grace through our love and unity with each other. Certainly, when we love others well and unite in our common bond of Christ, we live from the abundant life Jesus promised.

Currently, the church is divided—much like our nation. Do I lack faith, hope and love for the church? No. I am being painfully honest about our current condition. Just spend a little time on social media looking at your “friends'” posts, comments, likes and dislikes and I think you might agree.

People I have known for years are at odds with each other over politics and issues affecting our nation. Churches have widely differing views on COVID-19, Black Lives Matter (BLM), systemic racism, immigration, abortion, human trafficking, socialism, politics and so on.

While we may strive to love each other and walk in unity, it can be difficult when faced with such divisive issues. Our perspective of truth is often relative to our race, cultural context, socio-economic situation, political and religious views.

However, the Bible is full of truths, precepts, guidance and commands. Jesus is perfect truth, and He came to fulfill the law in grace and truth.

While the issues facing the church and nation are many, I believe there is one issue that is deeper and more serious than other issues we are facing. While many are focused on the suffering of COVID-19, police brutality and racial justice, there is another evil that is largely ignored. In fact, this evil is so sinister and deceptive, I believe it may be the cause of much of the suffering in our nation. That issue is abortion.

The Ten Commandments Are Simple and Clear

We are to love God solely and have no other idols or objects of affection before Yahweh. We are to love and honor our parents, commanded not to steal, covet, commit adultery or murder. Yet, in America, over the last few years, we average nearly 600,000 abortions (murders) yearly. Since the 1973 passing of Roe vs. Wade in the Supreme Court, data shows more than 50 million abortions were performed between 1973 and 2011.

Some estimate the real number of abortions are closer to 70 million babies murdered since 1973 to present. These numbers indicate genocide by any standard.

Compare the above abortion deaths with 170,000 deaths in the USA caused by the COVID-19 pandemic or the killing of 13 unarmed Black men by police in 2019. For sure, the pandemic has caused widespread suffering, beyond the mortality rate. We mourn every lost family and friend in our nation.

And to be clear, every death caused by police brutality or negligence is horrific, and legitimate police reforms are needed. However, consider that 28% of all Black pregnancies end in induced abortion and abortion is the number one killer of Black lives in America. The disproportionate societal and church response towards COVID and police brutality versus abortion is shocking—but not entirely surprising. Deception is very deceiving

Mother Theresa made this statement during the 1994 National Prayer Breakfast: “Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want.”

Roots of Abortion

Margaret Sanger was a forerunner of birth control and abortion in our nation, using my city of Tucson as a home base for her Planned Parenthood Operations. To be clear, Sanger was not only a eugenist but a racist, consider her words from “Birth Control and Racial Betterment” (1919):

“Before eugenicists and others who are laboring for racial betterment can succeed, they must first clear the way for birth control. Like the advocates of birth control, the eugenicists, for instance, are seeking to assist the race toward the elimination of the unfit. Both are seeking a single end but they lay emphasis upon different methods.”

Sanger would later state, in “The Pivot of Civilization” (1922): “We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all.” She would also state in “A Plan for Peace” (1932): The government should “give certain dysgenic groups in our population their choice of segregation or sterilization.” The following statement encapsulates her beliefs, from “The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda” (1921): “Today eugenics is suggested by the most diverse minds as the most adequate and thorough avenue in the solution of racial, political and social problems.”

Sanger’s theories were racist and genocidal. She is the “mother” of Planned Parenthood and abortion in our nation. Oddly enough, both Hillary Clinton in 2009 and Nancy Pelosi in 2014 have been recipients of the Margaret Sanger Award, an award given by Planned Parenthood to those who espouse their beliefs and practice.

People of color, especially in the African American community, for a century have been targeted by eugenicists and the elite for population control through birth control and abortion. Considering the truth of abortion, where is the outcry from the BLM movement, from the church and social justice advocates? Black lives matter, including those in the womb!

During the 1977 March for Life, the Rev. Jessie Jackson, Black Baptist pastor and civil rights leader, asked this important question of our nation, “What happens … to the moral fabric of a nation that accepts the aborting of the life of a baby without a pang of conscience?”

We have reached this moment in our nation—without a pang of conscience—regarding abortion. Third-trimester, including at birth abortion, is now acceptable by many on the Left. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his vice-presidential pick Kamala Harris, along with the majority on the Left, want to repeal the 1976 Hyde amendment that restricts federal funding of abortions and remove gestational term limits for when a baby can be aborted.

Biden moved further left on this issue after pressure in his party. He is now the most radical presidential candidate ever on the issue of abortion, and other issues as well. He and others in the Democratic party advocate third trimester abortions on demand—this is barbaric and outright murderous. Where is the pang of conscious with these leaders?

Spiritually, we have reached a fragile place in our nation. I shared during an online forum recently with other church leaders that I believe the issue of abortion, and specifically the repeal of the Hyde Amendment and what that would entail, has become a “demarcation line” for us, or a “point of no return” as a nation.

Yet many in the church seem oblivious to the evil of abortion. Many treat it has simply pro-choice versus pro-life, a Left versus Right political issue. But it is murder—plain and simple. Life begins at conception; the Bible is clear on this issue (see Ps. 139:13-16; Jer. 1:5). The genocide that has occurred cannot be ignored, the blood of the aborted cries out no different than Abel’s blood, George Floyd’s blood, or any other victims’ blood. The blood is on our hands as a nation, and as a church, for empowering leaders to get elected who advocate such evil.

While we need to pursue unity and love each other in the body of Christ, we have compromised on the issue of abortion to preserve “unity” while ignoring the evil. While we want to leave politics out of the church, the issue of abortion forces the church to confront this evil—no different than racism or slavery in previous generations in our nation (which is not to minimize or ignore human trafficking and slavery that still occurs globally today).

I have spoken to many pastors and Christians who vote for candidates who support abortion and they are indifferent on the matter, citing other social justice issues as more important and thereby justifying their vote and agreement with the murderous practice of abortion and candidates who support this. Church, this issue has allowed lawlessness and death to reign over our nation.

This election is pivotal. It is a values election. We must vote for candidates who are pro-life and continue to stand against the evil of abortion in our land.

After I shared my concerns about abortion with the other pastors last Thursday, I had a dream that night. In the dream, I saw a beautiful field, green grass and flowers everywhere. However, in the center of the field, and as far as I could see in the distance, sat little skulls—grey, eerie, human skulls. It was disturbing. In the center of the skulls, was a little girl, maybe age seven, placing flowers on all the skulls. That was my dream. When I woke up Friday, I was gripped by the dream. The Lord prompted me to do a word study on Molech (Moloch). {eoa}

For the rest of this story, tune in to Friday.

How Russia Will Play a Huge Role in End-Times Events

Note: This article is part one of a three-part series.

Despite the fact that Russia is never specifically mentioned in Scripture, many believe that the Hebrew seer Ezekiel prophesied that in the end times Israel will be attacked by Russia and its allies, in a great land invasion of the tiny nation.

Here’s why:

In chapters 38-39 of the book of Ezekiel, he becomes like a war correspondent, describing end-times battles and strategies in advance of them actually happening. While not describing the great end-time battle of Armageddon (Rev. 16:16; 19:11-21), Ezekiel did foresee an alliance of 10 Gentile nations that will gather for war with Israel.

This invasion army is to be headed by a person named Gog, from the land of Magog (Ezek. 38:2). The word “Gog” may actually be more of a title than a person’s name, much like “Caesar” or “Pharaoh.” Meanwhile, Magog is identified in Genesis 10:2, in the “table of nations,” as being the second son of Noah’s son Japheth.

Gog appears initially to be a commander of a coalition with three other lands: Rosh, Meshech and Tubal (v. 2-3). Many believe Rosh to be modern Russia and speculate about Meshech and Tubal being tribal groups within that region.

The other listed proper names in verses five and six may be the names of ancient Middle Eastern nations (38:1-6), although the actual geographic locations may have changed as people groups migrated. Some current biblical scholars identify the name Togarmah (thought to be named for the descendants of Noah’s great-grandson Gomer at Gen. 10:3) with modern Turkey, which Ezekiel notes (v. 6) lies to the “far north” of Israel but is much closer than modern Russia.

This unlikely coalition of nations might have been seen as “fake news” in Ezekiel’s day (over 2600 years ago), but these prophetic revelations are becoming more believable by the day. The named nations are “summoned” in the “latter years” to the restored and repopulated “mountains of Israel” where people will be “at rest” and “living securely” in “unwalled villages” in their ancient homeland (38:8,11-12).

Since the modern founding of Israel (in 1948) and the closing of the “Cold War” (1947-1991; “Mr. Gorachev, tear down this wall!”), Russia has increasingly been viewed as Israel’s ultimate archenemy. Their military “advisors,” technicians and materials find a ready welcome in many Arab countries today.

Russia’s atheistic imperialism is acceptable to Arab Islamists under the credo that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Unfortunately, they ignore the promises of God Almighty to Abraham and his covenant-keeping descendants that He will “bless those who bless you and I will curse him who curses you” (Gen. 12:3). God promised the neophyte nation He would “have their back!”

With More Than 4 Million Hearing the Gospel, This Movement Transforms Nations

Rob Welch never planned on entering the ministry. He was interested in business, and he says nobody he knew would have mistaken the hand of God on his life. He was fine with that.

About five years into his business career, however, Welch began to sense God had something else in mind for him. In 2001, he surrendered to God’s call on his life, left the business world, sold his home and enrolled in a master’s program at Wheaton College in Illinois. He became an ordained evangelist in 2004.

But more important is the impact his kingdom work has made. The result of his transformation is For His Glory Ministries and the Training for Trainers (T4T) program, which has shared the gospel with over 4 million people. More than 480,000 have committed their lives to Christ, and nearly 260,000 of those believers have been trained to make disciples who make disciples.

“I met this missionary couple on their first furlough from East Asia, and I met Wally [the husband], and he was telling me about Romans 10,” Welch told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “For Paul says, ‘How will they hear unless they have a preacher?’ I was talking with Wally, and he had the passion for the gospel and for reaching people for the kingdom. And that really lit a fire under me. Over the next 10 months, God brought me to surrender. …

“When I was at Wheaton, God confirmed my call as an evangelist. I was on a prison ministry trip to Florida, and the first time I preached there, there were 80 guys in the room and I’m preaching John 14, where Jesus says, ‘Don’t let your hearts be troubled,'” Welch said. “And of course, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ Over the next three days, I just saw God’s hand on me as I was preaching the gospel and that He had called me to be an evangelist and not a missionary.

“I knew in 2004 that the end goal was launching church-planting movements or disciple-making movements, but it took until 2012 until we found the tool for multiplication and training for trainers, or T4T,” he said. “It really is New Testament discipleship that you see going out of the book of Acts. When we got that vehicle, I knew what we needed to do and, over the next three years, we worked to see that launched.”

And the T4T movement has produced disciple-making miracles on the African continent.

To hear more about the T4T discipleship movement and about Welch’s ministry, listen to the rest of this podcast. And tune in to Welch’s Kingdom Transformation podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network.

Curt Landry Says Believers Must Be Watchmen on the Wall for America

Unfortunately, and with the continued progress of technology, identity theft has become a major issue for people around the world in recent years. Many unwittingly have their lives stolen from them every day.

But while identity theft sneaks up on individuals, Curt Landry says, the identity theft of this country has come with the full knowledge of many Americans. The founder of Curt Landry Ministry says the enemy has stolen America’s Christian foundation and heritage and has made a country its founding fathers would not recognize.

That’s what makes next Tuesday’s presidential election the most crucial one in history, and Landry says Christians have to take a stand to preserve our status as one nation under God and to put the enemy in its place.

“There are some real core values of the United States, and that’s why it is so important for people to vote for, to stand for, our biblical and constitutional rights,” Landry told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “What happens is they are tied to the security of our identity as a melting pot and as a nation.”

And with issues like abortion, racism, human trafficking and sexual perversion continually haunting the soul of our nation, Landry says, as believers, we must be the “watchmen on the wall.”

“Our job is to keep what was and what is and what is to come according to what God is doing. And God says we have to keep that in the forefront of every hour, every day. That is our job and, if we become silent, the enemy wins.

“If the watchman doesn’t sound the alarm, then the blood is on the watchman’s hands. There has to be a ‘not on my watch’ mentality, and this is what we do. This is our identity. It’s about having a covenant kingdom identity.

“The United States of America needs to rise up like Donald Trump did with COVID. He got hit really hard, he went in, they gave him medicine and he came out stronger than ever. We need, as a nation, to come out like John the Baptist. We need to come out as one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way for the Lord and prepare to make America great again.”

Hank Kunneman Prophesies Donald Trump Will Win 2020 Presidential Election

During a recent night of prayer at his Lord of Hosts Church in Omaha, Nebraska, senior pastor Hank Kunneman released a powerful word of knowledge about not only the presidential election next Tuesday, but how God’s power and glory will prevail over the United States of America for some time to come.

Here is part of Kunneman’s prophetic word from the Lord:

“‘Not only am I walking,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘upon this land, the United States of America, but I have come as I walk upon this land … as I stand upon the very soil of this nation, I have come at this time, to place my feet …. as I walk upon every state of your union, every city I visit … Now is the time,’ says the Lord God of hosts, ‘that I have come to execute from the throne of judgement, the throne of the one who is seated as Lord and judge of all. Too many are looking for and expecting evil. Too many are looking and expecting there to be bad. Too many are gripped with fear. This is grievous in my sight. Yet I say as I stand upon this land, I stand over your election. I stand over the outcome and I stand over the days leading up to the election. Watch this week. Oh, it shall be shaken. …

“But watch. Too many are expecting evil to prevail. Yet I say, look and expect light to expose darkness, light to overcome darkness, goodness to prevail over evil and for the new era that I have promised. Therefore, I have come at this time to walk upon this nation and execute judgment as I have said. You say, ‘God, what judgment do you speak of?’ I have come to execute a gag order against the forces of darkness and the lying spirits. Watch this very closely … ‘G’ for My goodness. ‘A’ for My all and ‘G’ for My glory. This, the enemy fears. As I’ve come and walked upon this nation at this time, not only have I implemented a gag order of My goodness, My all and My glory, so do not fear, yet watch. I have implemented a restraining order where there are certain things where the enemy thought he could overplay his hand. He shall be stripped, shamed and made to look like the fool.'”

Watch the rest of this video above and be encouraged that God is in control of next Tuesday’s presidential election. {eoa}

Messianic Rabbi: The Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah and the 2020 Election

In just a few days here in the United States, we will know the results of one of the most divisive presidential elections in our nation’s history. I also know that because my blogs get shared with more than 2 million people each week.

Considering that number, no matter which candidate and party wins some of those reading this will be disappointed. Because I know this is true, I thought that for this week’s blog I would write something that could be an encouragement to those reading this no matter who wins the election.

To do this, I thought I would compare two of the best-known men in the Bible and how they handled news of something devastating that effected their world. These two men are Noah and Abraham. The lives of these two men are in many ways very similar.

For instance, both men had a conversation with G-D in which G-D told them in advance of a devastating calamity that was coming upon the earth. In the case of Noah, it was the flood and in Abraham’s case, it was the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. They both witnessed these horrible events taking place but their responses are very different.

Let’s look a little deeper. Noah saw the world becoming corrupt and violent as we read in Genesis 6:11-12 (TLV):

“Now the earth was ruined before God, and the earth was filled with violence. God saw the earth, and behold it was ruined because all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.”

This was followed by Noah faithfully building the ark and getting inside with his family, which were the only human survivors of the flood.

Abraham’s experience was a little different. In Genesis 16, Abraham’s wife was barren and he has a child with his servant Hagar. In Genesis 17, his plan for Ishmael to be his heir is changed. In Genesis 18, G-D tells Abraham he will have a son with Sarah and that Sodom and Gomorrah will be decimated.

In Genesis 19, Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed and the nation Moab is born. In Genesis 20, Sarah is kidnapped by Abimelech and then miraculously returned through G-D’s intervention. In Genesis 21, ten years after the promise that Abraham would have a son with Sarah, Isaac is born.

But within this same chapter Abraham’s heart is broken when he has to send Ishmael away because of the way Hagar was treating Sarah. We also find out in chapter 21 that Abraham had been having skirmishes with King Abimelech which came to a peaceful conclusion.

So, as we read, we find that both Noah and Abraham dealt with significant violence and tragedy. There is nothing new under the sun. We also know from the Bible that in the last days things will be as they were in the days of Noah and in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. We also know that 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says:

“All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for restoration, and for training in righteousness, so that the person belonging to God may be capable, fully equipped for every good deed.”

With this in mind, we should be able to look at how Noah and Abraham dealt with the difficult times and experiences in their lives and then apply what the Bible shows us to our lives. In other words, we should be able to learn from their examples. So let’s read how Noah and Abraham responded to these traumatic events.

In Genesis 9:20-21, we read what Noah does after the ark has landed and G-D establishes His covenant with him and all mankind.

“Then Noah, a man of the soil, was first to plant a vineyard. He drank some of the wine, got drunk, and was uncovered in his tent.”

Noah goes to work and then gets drunk.

In Genesis 21:33, we read what Abraham does after all of the events described above have happened.

“Then he planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba and called there on the Name of Adonai, the Everlasting God.”

Abraham goes to work and calls on the name of Ad-nai.

It doesn’t take a Bible scholar to see the similarities between 2020 and the days of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah. Violence and sin is all around us. And for some reading this blog, the results of the election will not be what you had hoped. My hope and the reason I am writing this today, is that everyone reading this will choose to follow the example of Abraham in their response to every event no matter how tragic it may be to them.

While events may be out of our control, our response to them is not. So, after the election results are in, no matter who wins, let me encourage you to go back to work and call on the name of Ad-nai. The reason this is so important is found in what took place right after Noah got drunk. One of his children sins and is cursed.

Please remember that your children (both physical and spiritual) are watching how you respond to the events in your life, both good and bad, and they will learn from your example. {eoa}

Avoiding the ‘Dark Side’—And Not Just on Halloween

Have you noticed that, even in the middle of an epidemic, our culture is still fascinated with death, demons and things which go “bump” in the night?

I say that because I’m again seeing sad and bizarre decorations around homes and public places glorifying the “dark side.” And retail stores are again obliging (or is it leading?) these disturbing distractions among us, at this season.

Some are even drawn into experimentation with the “dark side” and innocently enticed by fantasy games or even séances, which claim to produce an actual dialogue with the dead. These are dark and dangerous practices known as necromancy or sorcery and are forbidden in the Bible, as acts of witchcraft or black magic.

Even celebrities and well-known politicians have been known to dabble in these “dark side” activities. If the supposed dialogue with the dead was real, they were actually talking to demons!

The apostle Paul told the Ephesians to be careful and not to “give place to the devil” (Eph. 4:27). A few verses later, he warned believers to “not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you are sealed for the day of redemption” (v. 30). Grieve means to cause injury or distress. The Holy Spirit will let us know if we have caused spiritual distress by our sin or disobedience—even walking too close to the “dark side.”

Pastor Jack Hayford notes in his Spirit-Filled Life Study Bible at verse 27 that “the Greek word for place (topos) emphasizes that believers can actually give ground in their lives to satanic control. This is a warning against theologized suppositions that argue against the possibility that demonic vexing or oppression may succeed with Christians. But the surrounding commands balance the issue (v. 17; 5:14) making clear that responsible believers cannot glibly blame the devil for sin they yield to in carnal disobedience.”

Black Magic, séances and certain cultural observances (like the Central Amerian/Mayan Dia de Los Muertos) are not the only spiritual dangers to avoid. The darkness of false religions has nothing to teach the light. Other religions are designed to deceive people and lead them into spiritual darkness. We can learn enough about other religions so we can witness to them more effectively but don’t get caught in a “quid pro quo” relationship: “I’ll visit your church if you’ll visit mine.” Jesus warned us not to fall for false religions, their nonbiblical deceptions nor distractions (see Matt. 24:4-5).

In Ephesians 5:6-8, Paul commands us to “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.”

Paul goes on to urge us to walk in love, in light and in wisdom. Since we are, in fact, now “children of light” (5:8), we should have “no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them, for it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret” (vv. 11-13). We need to be wise, learn the will of the Lord and live in that light (vv. 14-17.)

Finally, in the first epistle from the apostle John, we learn “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
