Pastor Andrew Brunson Urges Believers to Prepare for the Coming Persecution

Pastor Andrew Brunson, who was detained for this faith in Turkey for two years on trumped-up terrorism and spying charges before being released in October 2018, told CBN News recently that persecution and harassment toward Christ followers in America is about to intensify in many ways and that Christians should be ready for it in the coming months.

“Jesus said this would happen,” Brunson says. “Just as the world hated him, it will hate His followers. As I look at our history in the States, over generations, people were faithful. We’ve had many sins and mistakes as a country, but there are many who honored God, especially leaders who did this publicly.

“I think everyone can see that there has been a significant change in this area,” he says. “Many leaders in our society now—the corporate world, entertainment, media, politics and academia—do not honor God and, in fact, they openly defy Him. They are increasingly hostile to those who identify clearly with Jesus and His teaching. So I believe it has actually already started. We already see the signs here. There is a tidal wave on the horizon, and it’s coming toward us very quickly. It’s not some far-off threat.”

Brunson says there are many ways that this persecution and harassment of believers will manifest itself in America.

“One is in marginalizing, shaming and canceling people,” Brunson says. “A big issue for us in the future is how we’re going to be able to get our message out to Christians and nonbelievers. What if you’re banned from social media, or no one will host your church website or podcast?

“Then, there’s also deplatforming, especially of financial transactions,” he says. “Just think how difficult it will be to be able to use a credit card or to have a bank account, and how that would affect you in your daily life. It’s already happening to some groups.

“What happens if churches are told that, unless they change their teaching from the Bible, then they will lose their tax-exempt status and be closed down?” Brunson asks. “The thing is that those who persecute will justify their persecution by saying that we are hate groups, that what we have is a hate message of intolerance. It is very difficult to be despised and hated.”

Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, says this has already happened to his organization. In a release, Wildmon revealed that the credit card company processing the AFA’s credit card donations has ceased doing so, without warning, since the first week of December.

And Wildmon says he’s convinced, without question, the action was taken because “we are a Christian ministry, and we take public stands on moral issues.”

“We are pursuing legal redress for this overt religious discrimination, but our attorneys have advised us not to name the offenders publicly at this point so as not to compromise the case,” Wildmon says. “Rest assured, we will as soon as we can. Right now, however, this has disrupted our donation processing at a critical time of the year. This abrupt cancellation is costing the ministry tens of thousands of dollars each day, and that doesn’t include legal fees that we will incur as we fight this discrimination. What we’re experiencing today is the most serious attack AFA has faced since its inception over 40 years ago.

“We have found a different credit card processing company—that’s good,” Wildmon says. “However, the company that dropped us refuses to release the personal and credit card information to the new processing company.”

In 2007, Brunson and his wife, Norine, began a ministry called Wave Starters. The intent of the ministry is to draw Christ-followers closer to His heart so that they can be prepared for the coming persecution.

Brunson says it helped him endure the two years he spent in a jail cell in Turkey.

“This is something that has been burning in my heart. We need to prepare,” Brunson says. “If we are not ready, that’s very dangerous. In my experience, there’s only one group—the International House of Prayer in Kansas City—that, as part of their training program, is actually preparing this generation for suffering, for persecution. It’s not something we’re doing in the churches.

“We must prepare ahead of time—and there is a threat, and we are afraid because fear is a real thing—we do not run but stand firm. There are several ways to do this, but the No. 1 that I want to underline is the way we prepare to stand in difficult times is by cultivating love for God. Years ago, I began to pray what I call the Wave Starter Prayer. It’s the name of our organization, of our ministry.

“I pray this way, ‘Father, draw me so close to Your heart that You will be able to trust me to start waves.’ So, we began to run after the heart of God, a pursuit of intimacy. Over the years, this pursuit of God’s heart prepared us for difficult assignments and included my time in prison. God knew that I would struggle; He knew that I would break. But He also knew that because of all of those years of drawing close to His heart in the most difficult times, I would turn toward Him and not away.

“So, the truth is that intimacy fuels perseverance, and we are willing to suffer for those we love,” Brunson says. “The thing that best prepared me for me time under persecution was cultivating that love for God and running after his heart.” {eoa}

5 Steps to Discern Prophetic Witchcraft Working Against You

How do you discern between authentic prophecy and prophetic witchcraft? This is a crucial question as many false prophets have tried to deceive Christians over the years.

Sadly, there’s no telling how much money and time people have sown into false prophets’ ministries.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully believe in authentic prophecy. And often, the Lord will lead me to give prophetic words online. But I’ve also seen false prophecy spread on the internet like wildfire, leaving a trail of deception and destruction.

So how do we discern the true from the false?

To help answer this question, I invited Jennifer LeClaire onto my podcast, Adventures in the Spirit. Jennifer is an internationally recognized author, apostolic and prophetic voice and conference speaker. She also recently wrote her latest book titled Discerning Prophetic Witchcraft.

“Prophetic witchcraft is using the prophetic (for manipulation),” Jennifer says. “It’s tapping into a familiar spirit or just prophesying stuff you make up or looking over someone’s shoulder to see their zip code on their offering envelope and then later on getting a word of knowledge with their zip code. Those sorts of manipulations of the prophetic are prophetic witchcraft.”

Jennifer offers five practical strategies to help you discern prophetic witchcraft:

  1. Spend more time with God, so you can know Him better. An intimate relationship with the Lord is paramount to discerning prophetic witchcraft. Think about it—you can’t discern a fake if you don’t know the authentic inside and out. Take time each day to study God’s Word, talk to Him and fellowship with Him. As He reveals Himself to you in a deeper way, you’ll be able to easily spot when something does not flow from His Spirit.
  1. Get a biblical view of judgment and discernment. Some Christians are terrified of the label “judgmental.” They have a “thou shalt not judge” attitude when it comes to discerning Christian leaders’ teachings and prophecies. But the Bible talks about a righteous kind of judgment that involves discerning a leader’s character and teaching. In fact, you can’t read a single book in the New Testament that doesn’t warn us to watch out for false prophets and teachers. Be careful of becoming so enamored with someone’s gifts or charisma that you can’t discern their fruit.
  1. Heed the Holy Spirit’s warnings. Some Christians call this a “check in their spirit.” Whatever name you give it, make sure to pay attention when something feels off in a spiritual sense. That may very well be the Holy Spirit trying to warn you of prophetic witchcraft. “The Holy Spirit always, always, always tries to warn us that we are going in the wrong direction,” Jennifer says. “If we are not sensitive to His voice leading, if we have that mindset of ‘Well, who am I to judge?’ or ‘Well, they’re so accurate, I don’t need to judge,’ then we are potentially going to walk into some kind of prophetic trap. And it’s going to cost us time, money (or) heartbreak.”
  1. Watch out when people demand money in exchange for prophecies. I’m not talking about selling e-courses on how to prophesy or hear God’s voice. I’m talking about someone asking you to pay them money before they are willing to give you a prophetic word. This is prophetic witchcraft—plain and simple. The Holy Spirit isn’t a genie in a bottle. The apostle Peter publicly rebuked a sorcerer named Simon in Acts 8 because he tried to buy the Spirit of God with money. This attitude will never come from the Holy Spirit. If you see a prophet who’s obsessed with money, that’s a huge red flag.
  1. Avoid fear-based prophecies. Prophets who tend to focus on prophetic curses, judgments and fear-based predictions are usually not operating in the Spirit. These false prophets use fear as a way of manipulating people into listening to them and following their ministry. In my podcast, Jennifer gives the example of a so-called prophet who cursed a young man who left his network. He prophesied that the young man’s church would fold, that he would lose his house in 30 days and that an angel of destruction would come upon him. None of that happened. In fact, the young man’s ministry grew, proving that false prophet wrong. Lesson learned—beware of fear-obsessed prophets.

Spirit-Filled Author Says, Like Esther, Our Choices Determine Our Destiny

Our destinies many times are shaped by our choices. After Esther became King Ahasuerus’ queen, she was faced with a choice to step out of her comfort zone and exercise her authority as queen to save the Jewish people or stand idly by and watch them perish (Esth. 2:16-17, 4:6-8). She arrived at this crossroad just as Mordecai revealed to her the evil plot set up by Haman (Esth. 4:9).

She had a life-and-death choice to make that would determine her destiny and that of her people. We now know she made the choice to rescue her people at any cost (Esth. 4:15-16). She is known as a heroine, a woman of great courage and bravery, a woman of influence. How you will be known is determined by the choices you make. Making the right choices at the right time, often in difficult circumstances, may make the difference between fulfilling God’s plan for your life and missing it completely.

Choice plays a major part in fulfilling destiny. Choice is an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. It is the power, right or liberty to choose. A decision is a choice that you make after thinking about it. A decision is a determination arrived at after consideration. It is a conclusion or resolution reached after weighing your options. It’s actually in your times of decision that destiny is shaped. Choices make the difference in our lives. Making simple good choices daily in our lives can lead to great accomplishments.

The Lord has given mankind a beautiful gift in the dignity of choice. When making a decision, you must always begin with the heart and mind of God. You must start with what is right according to the principles of the kingdom and not what is acceptable.

This is why Esther, her handmaidens and the Jewish people prayed and fasted for three days before Esther attempted to get an audience with the king and plead their case (Esth. 4:15-16). She needed to know the heart and mind of God and line up with it so that His destiny for her would be fulfilled. How else would she have known? How else will you know?

Thinking back on your prayer times, what have you heard God calling you to do? What situations has He called you to address? What problems has He anointed you to solve?

When making choices, we must consider our values because values impact our decision-making. Values are something we believe in so much that they guide our behavior. Values help determine how we weigh the consequences of choosing one option or another. To make the right choices, our values need to be aligned with God’s values. We need the wisdom, integrity and will to make the right choices for ourselves.

Esther’s choice to take a road less traveled yielded significant results. God has given us the beauty of choice to make decisions and tap into the pure potential around us. We must create structure by choosing, and God will breathe life into our decisions. Our lives are nothing but the result of collective choices we have made along the way. We must take responsibility for our choices instead of letting others and circumstances shape our lives. Take action toward your own progress—which most of the time requires making the righteous, hard choice—and be willing to pay the price to accomplish God’s purpose for your life. {eoa}

Messianic Rabbi: My Light Shines Because We Are Still Here

A part of the traditional celebration of Hanukkah is the lighting of a nine-branch Hanukkah Menorah (called a Hanukkiah) each night for eight consecutive nights. This year, as we joyously lit our Hanukkiah with our two youngest grandchildren, we once again placed the menorah in a location clearly visible not only from inside our home, but we also made sure it was visible from outside of our home.

The tradition of placing the Hanukkiah in a clearly visible location is done as a reminder not only to those inside the house, but also to those outside of the home that the Jewish people are still here and that our light is still shining.

This statement is made visible with the lighting of the Hanukkiah each Hanukkah to remind ourselves and those around us that despite the numerous attempts to either annihilate the Jewish people (such as in Egypt, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Holocaust and the Pogroms, and the attempts to destroy the Jewish people by assimilation that we read about in the Hanukkah narrative), we are still here.

This year, I stood watching the candles burning and the smiles on the faces of my grandchildren and thought of the words of Yeshua (Jesus) from Mathew 5:14-16:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

As a Messianic Jew, a Jewish believer in Yeshua as my Messiah, the Hanukkah story has an even greater meaning based upon a verse from the book of Acts 5:34-40:

But a certain Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Torah respected by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and gave orders to put the men outside for a little while. Then he said to them, “Men of Israel, be careful what you are about to do with these men. For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody; and a number of men, maybe four hundred, joined up with him. He was killed, and all who followed him were scattered and came to nothing. After this fellow, Judah the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and got people to follow him. He also perished, and all who followed him were scattered. So now I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or undertaking is of men, it will come to an end; but if it is of God, you will not be able to stop them. You might even be found fighting against God.” They took his advice, called in the emissaries, flogged them, ordered them not to continue speaking in the name of Yeshua, and let them go.

So, as a Messianic Jew who lives my life as a Jew who believes in Yeshua, I let my light shine—not only because the Jewish people, my people, are still here, but because the Messianic Jewish people, my people, are still here. {eoa}

Prophecy: God Is Looking for Governmental Intercessors

The government of the earth takes place in the prayer rooms. And we’re not governing with politics but with prayer. God is looking for unbiased governmental intercessors who will stand in their regions and rule and reign with Christ. I heard the Lord say:

“I am looking for governmental intercessors in this region that will rise up in My Spirit and legislate the territory with My Word. I am seeking those who understand how the courts of heaven operate and will explore what the enemy has said and is saying over your city. I am looking for prayer warriors who understand how to tap into My plans and co-labor with My Spirit to bring My kingdom down. I am looking.”

Again, God is looking for governmental intercessors. You might be asking, “What is a governmental intercessor?” There are governmental intercessors, and there are political intercessors. Political intercessors have the bias of a party and pray with prejudice. Governmental intercessors have the agenda of heaven and pray God’s will to be done.

Kingly Intercession

Webster’s defines govern as “to direct and control; to regulate by authority; to influence; to direct; to restrain; to steer or to regulate the course of; to exercise authority to maintain the superiority.” To exercise authority is to govern. The simplest way to explain governmental intercession is praying with Christ’s authority into earthy governments. A governmental intercessor prays with authority into governments, whether church governments, local, state, national or international governments.

Governments are organizations through which politicians exercise authority and distribute power. There is no higher government than the government of God. Governing intercessors have delegated authority in Christ to decree God’s will to be done and His kingdom to come on earth—and in governments.

Curt Landry Says You Can Help Protect the Religious Freedom of This Nation Right Now

Rabbi Curt Landry says with all the spiritual warfare surrounding the 2020 presidential election, including alleged fraud, the Constitution of the United States is being assaulted. In fact, it’s being attacked as never before in the 244 years of the country’s existence.

And, he says, that has huge ramifications on the religious freedom you and your fellow Americans have enjoyed for nearly 2 1/2 centuries. That religious freedom is in jeopardy, and many aren’t even fully aware of it. Invoking Patrick Henry’s famous quote from 1775, Landry says, “Give me liberty or give me death.”

It’s time, Landry says, for believers to get on their knees in constant intercessory prayer for God to intervene and help us maintain our religious liberty—to be “watchmen on the wall.” The next step in the 2020 presidential election, which is still in dispute, will happen on Jan. 6, 2021, when Congress meets to validate it. If there are objections at that meeting, a somewhat obscure law will be consulted to settle disputes about electors.

“If we want God to bless America, then we need to have a democratic republic that actually stands with His ways,” Landry told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “The separatists that came here 400 years ago, that’s what they came for. We cannot allow outside forces to steal that liberty.

“We have to have the spirit of Patrick Henry and say, ‘Give me liberty or give me death. But we also need to say liberty and justice for all. …

“For believers, in Second Corinthians, it says, ‘Now the Lord is the Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty,’ Landry said. “We have to have religious liberty to be able to demonstrate and preach the gospel. And we need this platform in the United States of America. Our Constitution is being tested. The last time it was tested was like in 1876, when there was voter fraud suppression. And that’s where we’re going again right now.”

What Are You Doing With Your God-Given Authority and Favor?

When we soak in the presence of God, we are not only fostering our relationship with God but setting the table for the glory of God to be manifested in our lives.

The organic fruit of this will be an increase in His anointing and His power in our lives. This is the fuel to be game changers for Him. I believe when we say “yes” to Him, it is the spark that ignites the fuel.

All He needs is a “yes” to bring His will to pass.

Remember, Jesus said, “Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father” (John 14:12). Do you believe it? Do you want it? Are you hungering for it? If not, why? Are you stuck in the horizontal of this life, consumed with survival and not His eternal plan for you here? We cannot be so earthly minded we forget who put us here and for what purpose.

Time is ticking. I believe we are getting closer and closer to the end of time as we know it. You can tell by the signs of the times swirling around us. We need to make every minute count.

We must also consider what we are doing with the authority and power He gives us. 2 Timothy 3:5 warns of those “having a form of godliness, but denying its power. Turn away from such people.” I do not want to be known as such a person!

In Revelation 3:16, Jesus says we are to be cold or hot but not lukewarm. If we are lukewarm, he goes on to say, “I will spit you out of My mouth.” Yikes! Are we being a thermometer or a thermostat in our spheres of influence?

When we don’t use what we have been given, I liken this to being “all dressed up with no place to go.” Many Christians have what I call the “God bless me clubs”. They encourage and bless one another but ignore the fact that we, as the church, need to be sharing what we have with others.

Are we or are we not the hands and feet of God? We, as the church, need to move out of that “club” to share what we have cultivated in His presence with the world. We need to be those game changers for God. Can you imagine if we all walked in this? Not a demon in hell would want to be near us!

That would surely change this present earthly climate. The world is waiting for the out pouring of His manifested presence. It is needed more now than ever before. As the evil one raises his standard, the Spirit of God wants to raise up an even grander standard, and He wants to use us. I believe the next wave of evangelism is going to be us, mobile churches ministering outside the walls of traditional churches with signs and wonders that cannot be denied to anyone. Many will fall in repentance and be saved. Are you excited yet?

He is calling us to move out and beyond fear, comfort zones, unbelief and the like that holds us back from being used by Him with signs and wonders. We cannot hide our lights and His glory under a bushel basket. We may be the only Bible some people will ever see.

We need to find and embrace our identity, assignments and the authority in Him, with His power, and take the world back from the enemy.

Lord, I pray for all of those reading this and listening to the podcasts. Please put a hunger, thirst and passion in them for more of you and more of Your presence, so Your promised resurrection power can be made manifest in all of us, here and now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Real Story Behind the Nativity

After a lifetime of Christmas pageants and nativity scenes, we have grown numb to the amazing story of the birth of Jesus. In fact, it has been relegated to a children’s story replete with newborn babies, angels and adorable little lambs, not to mention the petting zoos of camels and goats.

Most nativity scenes also have three kings bearing gifts even though they were not in Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus. They came a good year—if not two—later. But let’s not disappoint the children with the facts!

If we stop and take a grownup’s look at the Christmas story, we find so much more than meets the eye. For example, have you ever stopped to wonder why Jesus was born in the area of a home where the animals were kept? Yes, it was because the guest chamber was full, and Mary needed privacy. But could it be that the Lamb of God was born in a cave used to birth lambs for temple sacrifice?

Ever wonder why the angels entrusted shepherds with their announcement? The angels said the sign of the babe lying in a feeding trough and wrapped in swaddling cloths was for them. Many teach that is because the gospel was for the lowliest of the low. Actually, the chances are those shepherds were anything but lowly. After they found the baby, they spread the news far and wide as though they had some level of respect. Who were they really?

Join me this week on the Out of Zion podcast titled The Birth of Jesus, and we will tell the amazing story behind the famous Christmas nativity scene. This study is part 2 of our 3D Jesus series. {eoa}

Prophecy: Dream Big and Believe for the Impossible

I believe we are in a kairos moment where anything is possible. Kairos is the Greek word in the New Testament for “time,” which is also translated as a “set or proper time, opportunity, due season, short time,” or “a fixed and definite time, the time when things are brought to crisis, the decisive epoch waited for” (see Strong’s Lexicon).

Before the foundations of the world, God has destined us to be alive for such a time as this. He has entrusted us with this unique season to carry hope to the hopeless, peace to the fear-stricken and healing to the brokenhearted. He has entrusted us with laying the foundations for what the new era will look like. He has repositioned us to be in perfect alignment for what He’s about to pour out next, His Spirit in unprecedented measures.

In December of 2019, before COVID-19 was the constant front page topic of every newspaper in the USA, I shared my annual prophecy for the new year. I believed that 2020 would be a year of “synergy, alignment, and an unprecedented outpouring of the Holy Spirit.” Regardless of what we’ve seen so far in this unprecedented time, I believe God’s heart for this year remains the same. 2020 is still a year of synergy, alignment, and an unprecedented outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Consecration

This has been such a critical year of reset and realignment toward our destinies. There has been a refining fire of consecration over the foundations of our hearts. I believe God has called us to a deeper level of consecration and being set apart for Him because He is about to shift us into a new era. He knows that in order for us to steward all that He wants to pour out, we will need a refined heart.

Right before Joshua was about to take the promised land, he gathered his army and said, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will perform wondrous deeds among you” (Josh. 3:5).

We are in a similar kairos moment as the Israelites were in that moment. God is preparing us to steward an unprecedented outpouring of His Spirit and a harvest of souls like we’ve never seen before. But like the leader of the Welsh Revival, Evan Roberts, once said, “God cannot do a good work through you until He has done a good work in you first.”

This year has been about an invitation to become consecrated vessels, ready to steward the glory of the Lord. Consecration means to be set apart, prepared, holy, purified, appointed and dedicated to the service and worship of God. Consecration is simply being more in love. It is vigilantly focusing our affection and attention on the face of Jesus. There is more refining fire for us as we finish off this unique year. When we can learn to live in the fire of His holiness, we become refined like gold, and everything that would hold us back from all that He has for us gets burned away.

Alignment

I believe God is specifically releasing a fire of consecration over our alignments in this season.

In the midst of the shifting, transition and adjustment that 2020 has forced upon us, new relationships and partnerships are becoming available.

We need to be wise, discerning, prayerful and aware of what partnerships, alignments, and covenants we make in this season. As we lay new foundations and open ourselves to new alignments, let’s be led of the Spirit. It will be important to be full of peace before extending our hand in partnership. We must follow our peace along these lines and trust we hear from the Lord, even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else. Know also that it’s not too late to shift things around to make sure our partnerships are pleasing to the Lord as we look to step into 2021.

God will lead us into consecrated and anointed covenants before the year ends. These newly established partnerships will be embedded in the foundations of not just 2021 but the next decade and beyond. Many of these alignments will have ripple effects for eternity. The synergy, acceleration, and favor in the new era will soar from our deepened relationship with Jesus and the alignments we make with other kindred hearted believers in this kairos moment.

Dream Big

Because we are in such a unique kairos moment where the unprecedented is happening on every level all around us, it’s also an anointed time to welcome God to do the impossible in our lives. There is a unique acceleration in this kairos moment and an invitation from heaven. No matter what our circumstances look like right now, I believe God is inviting us to move in the opposite spirit of whatever might be coming against us and lean in for the impossible.

Breakthroughs we’ve been praying years for will soon come to pass in a moment. There is grace in this season to set these before the Lord again and believe for the impossible. As we faithfully come before Him and invite the body of Christ to partner together in prayer with these hopes, dreams and needs, we will begin to see acceleration and breakthrough in such a powerful and unprecedented way that the only answer to explain this miracle is that God did the impossible on our behalf.

Dream big and lean in because 2020 is not over yet. God has destined this time to be one of synergy, alignment, and an unprecedented outpouring of the Spirit. And if we have eyes to see, we might just realize it has already begun and is rapidly upon us. God loves to save the best for last.

Here’s to believing with anticipation for the new wine to be poured out in exceeding measures upon our surrendered lives. {eoa}
