Conspiring (Co-Inspiring) With God Through Prayer and Prophecy

A lot of people have conspiracy theories, but did you know that there is a real dimension of co-inspiring, or conspiring, with God? It is an invitation into God’s strategic plan. Conspiring is a form of partnering with God. This realm is best expressed in prophecy and prayer — and combined together in prophetic intercession.

What exactly does this mean? The word conspire means “to breathe together.” According to Genesis 2:7, when God created man from the dust of the earth, He “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (NIV).

This Hebrew word that we translate “breathed” can mean breathing violently, such as when the violent rushing wind filled the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost. New covenant believers conspire with God so His glory will be seen, felt and known in the earth. These prophetic intercessory warriors are conspiring and breathing together, allowing God to breathe violently into situations, through prophecy and prayer, in order to bring forth life.

Conspiring: An Invitation to Strategic Planning

Some years ago, I was in Germany in the middle of the night and took a train ride from Heidelberg to Rosenheim, which is in the southern part of Germany known as Bavaria. It was a six-hour train ride through the night. I attempted to rest on this bumpety train but kept hearing the gentle, consistent, persistent voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to me. It was as if we were breathing the same words together over and over. The same phrase rumbled over and over within me, in my mind and in my heart, as the train made its way across Germany.

Where are My Daniels? Where are My Esthers? Where are My Deborahs? And where are My Josephs?” I heard it over and over again. “Where are My Daniels? Where are My Esthers? Where are My Deborahs? Where are My Josephs?” I knew God was talking to me as an individual believer and as a prayer warrior, but I also felt He was imparting a burden to me to raise up a band of people who would volunteer themselves for the task of being watchers on the wall of prayer. It was as if the Holy Spirit and I were co-inspiring, breathing together, for the purpose of strategically bringing life into something that was in the heart of God. “Where are My Daniels, Esthers, Deborahs and Josephs?”

Are you one of them? Have you been positioned for such a time as this, as stated in Esther 4:14? Have you been brought forth for this hour? Will you be one of the answers to this persistent plea?

God’s Velvet Warriors

Many years ago I saw a vision of the “Velvet Warriors” moving forward in a time of great need. It was the army of the Lord, but they were coming so much slower than I would’ve anticipated. When I saw them come to the top of the hill, I could see why they were coming forth so slowly: they were marching on their knees.

Then the Spirit described these humble kneeling believers to me as His “Velvet Warriors.” This indicated they were a part of an arising generation that knew their strength was on bended knee. That army is still assembling, and many vacancies still exist.

You can still sign up! It’s not too late to answer the call. You can join the ranks and volunteer to be commissioned as one of God’s Servant Velvet Warriors.

I think I can hear the drumbeats in the background. I think I can hear yet another trumpet sound calling forth these warriors to mount the walls of intercession. Who will answer these calls? Who will blend their very own heartbeat with His heart?

There is a cry yet to be heard that combines the various forms of Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered worship and prayer.

These prayers can take on many forms, as the wind blows wherever it wishes, which are completely biblical and are completely under the oversight of the Holy Spirit. “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit” (1 Cor. 14:2, NIV).

Let’s conspire with God — combine praying in the Spirit through the gift of tongues and praying in the Spirit through intense, fervent travail in order to give birth to new seasons and fresh awakenings.

Scared to Speak? God Wants to Help You With This Stronghold

Scared to speak? Me? It didn’t start out that way. As a child I loved to honor my grandma by reciting poems for her church’s Christmas program. It made me happy to speak because it made her happy.

Then came the year I turned 12. Grandma decided since I did such a good job learning one poem a year, she would have me recite two poems! I wasn’t scared at all until I got up to speak.

I’m not sure if it was because I’d never seen that many people there before or because I was suddenly self-conscious, but my mind went blank after five verses of the first six-verse poem. There were words in my head, but I knew they were from the other poem.

I stood frozen center stage in my black-and-red plaid dress with black patent leather shoes and white socks. Grandma was in the front row trying to tell me the next line, but I knew the words she was mouthing to me were not correct.

As a sea of faces stared back, I ran off the stage, down the center aisle, past all the people and out the back door to the safety of the huge oak tree. It’s where I remember Grandma reading vacation Bible school stories to me and several other kids. This day, though, was not a summer day. It was beyond freezing.

Tears streamed down my cheeks. All I could remember was the shocked look on Grandma’s face as I ran down the aisle past her. I stayed there for a long time. Grandma thought I was at the back of the church. She did not come to find me, and I was glad. I didn’t want her to see the tears freezing on my face. It felt as if something special had been stolen from me.

Oath Sworn

There under the oak tree I swore I would never speak in front of an audience again. I never wanted to feel that level of embarrassment and shame. For years I kept the oath.

In 1994, I was part of a freedom seminar. One exercise we did was to memorize and lip-sync a song in front of the group. We were to be “judged” by those in the seminar. They would stand when they experienced us being real.

My fear of being in performance mode was heightened because I now weighed well over 350 pounds. Not only would I be in front of people but I was also going to be judged. The 12-year-old girl in my mind wanted to find that oak tree real quick.

My time came to perform. The minute the first strains of “You Light Up My Life” started, I could feel myself shaking. But I was committed to try. Still, it wasn’t until the chorus that the other trainees started standing, and by the second verse, the trainers were standing.

I sang the rest of the song through a veil of tears, not caring what was happening or who was standing or not standing. As I cried, I noticed I wasn’t alone. Their tears were joining with mine. Then I saw Russ, the director of the seminar, standing on top of a table joining me as tears streamed down his face. Somehow I knew being in front of people would never be a huge problem again.

Testing My Voice

In August 2013, I was talking to my book mentor about a release date and launch party for my first book, Sweet Grace. “You know this means you’ll need to speak at this event,” she said. “They are coming to hear your story. You can have a few others say some words, but you have to be the main speaker.”

This was the first time I had even considered that writing a book might mean I’d have to speak. On the day of the book launch party, even though I had copious notes on my iPad, I spoke from my heart and loved every moment of it. The words flowed effortlessly.

I realized the stronghold that screamed “You can’t speak in public!” had truly been broken. This could have only happened with God’s help.

From birth, God knew me. He knew one day my voice would be heard at workshops and seminars, in my coaching group and courses I have developed. But God wouldn’t stop there. My voice would be heard on national and international Christian television stations, radio, YouTube and my own podcast. He had a plan to make it all happen before I ever desired to utter a single word.

God Knows

Psalm 139:4-6 (NLT) says, “You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”

God knows what I’m going to say before I say it. He even helps me say it. He takes away the fear of staring into a camera, speaking into a microphone or looking out at the faces of those at a conference or workshop. These days I do all those things with ease only because I have the assurance that God does know me.

I still feel my voice is loudest when I write, but there is no doubt speaking, coaching and podcasting are also part of God’s plan for the message He has given me to share.

Oaths sworn on oak trees don’t last, after all. I think God set me up that day. He knew one day that scared little girl would be speaking in front of potential audiences of millions. Even now I can hear Him chuckle about this turn of events that didn’t take Him by surprise at all.

I know I have a voice because God broke the stronghold that kept it silent for many years. I believe you do as well. If you are afraid to use your voice, allow God to help you overcome this stronghold. {eoa}

Hillsong and Humility: Why ‘Celebrity Status’ Can Seduce Anyone

A number of years ago, shortly after Hillsong’s worldwide rise to fame, Charisma did a cover story on Brian Houston, the Australian church’s senior pastor. Hillsong rose quickly to international prominence because of its worship band’s string of worship hits, namely its first hit, “Shout to the Lord,” and more recently “Oceans.”

Our former Charisma Leader magazine also did a Q and A with Houston in 2007. You can read that here.

As the church’s songs gained global influence on church music, Hillsong’s lead pastor, Brian Houston, gained a similar scope of influence on church leaders. And from what I’ve seen, he used his notoriety to instill the importance of community outreach and good works in many churches around the globe. He and his leadership team also moved the church away from a lot of the legalism that had tended to turn many people off.

When I visited a Hillsong service in 2007 I thought to myself, “This is a lot like the church I go to now.” They lowered the lights for worship and made it a little bit more like a concert. Their praise band was jumping around on stage, and being a lifelong Pentecostal myself, I enjoyed it.

Australia is a very secular country. My wife went to high school in Sydney, Australia, because her dad served there as a pastor, and I’ve been told that more than half of Australians would never go to church back then, not even on Easter and Christmas. Protestantism was pretty small, and Pentecostalism was even smaller, but a lot of that changed with Hillsong’s rise.

Because of Hillsong’s rapid growth in a largely unchurched nation, many pastors implemented Brian Houston’s winning strategies for planting and growing sustainable churches. Some pastors even partnered with Hillsong to plant churches around the world, including Carl Lentz, the former Hillsong NYC pastor. Lentz and his church attracted celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. He was even known nationally as Justin Bieber’s pastor for a couple of years. Because of Lentz’s rising fame, Katie Couric, The View and GQ magazine interviewed him.

Hillsong has always had its critics, and most of them already criticized Pentecostals in general, but a number of scandals, starting with Lentz’s well-documented affair and alleged sexual abuses, began to rock the global church in November 2020. Lentz was fired almost immediately.

Then, in an even more shocking turn of events, Houston stepped away from leadership to fight a court battle in which he was being prosecuted for allegedly hiding his father’s pedophilia, and then he completely resigned after two allegations of “inappropriate behavior” surfaced with two separate women.

After Houston resigned, the documentary Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed debuted on Discovery Plus. Since then, several Hillsong churches have withdrawn from Hillsong to apparently distance themselves from the troubled denomination. The music was affected too as Hillsong’s bands cancelled their tours, and some churches questioned whether they would even play Hillsong music in their worship services. At one time revered as the gold standard of worship music, preaching and church planting, Hillsong’s brand tanked.

A well-known TV preacher said one time, “Everyone’s made mistakes, but only some of them have become public.” As a journalist, I’ve seen the nature of some very flawed superstar preachers over the years. They have the anointing, and people respond to their message, but behind the scenes they act like high-ranking politicians or Arab sheiks. I don’t think the Lord is pleased with that. To some extent, all of us are probably guilty of getting away with certain things, but we have to realize that sooner or later these things will catch up with us.

I don’t think Carl Lentz, Brian Houston or any of the other Hillsong pastors are irredeemable. They became celebrities, and just like when a small-time politician hits the national stage or when a small start-up founder grows into a big tech CEO, it’s easy for them to let it go straight to their head, especially when everyone keeps telling them how great they are.

I don’t know everything about Hillsong, but from what I’ve observed, it’s easy for successful ministries like Hillsong to focus on their success and ignore all of their critics, but I suggest a more humble approach for pastors and Christian leaders. My longtime mentor Jamie Buckingham used to say, “You can learn something from your worst critic because at least they see something that you don’t see.”

God, Why Do I Have to Go Through This?

God miraculously but certainly places His glory in your life and leaves an eternal deposit of all that He is inside of you. We have erroneously assumed that “good” is what replaces “bad” with circumstances such as health, happiness and pleasure.

However, God defines “good” as what makes you and me more like Jesus.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them (Rom. 8:28, NLT).

Romans 8:28 is our go-to verse whenever we encounter circumstances that we don’t like and would not choose. But to fully understand the ultimate good that God is able to produce, we must read on in this passage of scripture.

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Rom. 8:29, NLT).

God is well able to take what is perceived as bitter by itself and turn it into a revolutionary force in one’s life that transforms anyone into possessing the character of Jesus. God delights in taking the things that have roared painfully through your life with the force of a hurricane and use those exact events to make you think and act and emote like Jesus.

The enemy wants to destroy you with problems, challenges and storms, but God intends to turn you into the representation of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is your elder brother, and it is time for you to start acting like Him! He came to be the “show and tell” of how to live well, how to live powerfully and how to live in the goodness of God the Father.

God often delivers His children out of suffering and tragedy, but He always protects us by shielding us with His goodness. Everything that comes into your life is filtered through the Father’s ultimate goodness. You can rest assured that nothing will touch your life that He does not allow and that He will not work for your good.

Only a good, all-powerful God is able to take what is incredibly bad and miraculously turn it into something incredibly good. Every tragic event and disappointing experience that a believer goes through this side of heaven should have one purpose and one purpose alone: to make each one of us more like Jesus!

“Why do I have to go through this?” you might ask. God is using the process of life to turn you into something more beautiful than you could ever be without it, and into a productive member of the kingdom of God.

God’s plan is to use you, and He is unable to do so when you stubbornly remain in the beginning stages of the process. God’s ways will always refine and define a child who is willing to be turned into someone usable for Christ and His kingdom.

As 21st-century Western believers, we have embraced words such as productive, purpose and prosperous. However, all three of those “powerful” words are dependent upon God’s “process” in the life of a Christian.

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you” (Isa. 43:2, NLT).

Often, the process that God takes one of His children through involves fire. Not one of us enjoys the fire, and all of us may scream and wiggle and complain presuming that we might be able to avoid the fires of life. However, even in the fire God is refining, defining and preparing each one of us for a purpose in His unshakable kingdom! There is a way we can go through the fire and not even have the residue of smoke rest upon us. There is a way to be in the fire but not of the fire!

I must admit, I have experienced a fire or two in my lifetime, and often I have indeed come out smelling like smoke. After spending time in the “furnace of great affliction,” often I come out as a charred remnant of my former self. But that is because when I was in the fire, I was determined to have my own way and not God’s way.

I have painfully discovered that when you go through any fire in life guided by the principles found only in the Word of God, you will be able to encounter the hottest flames that life has to offer and still not smell like smoke. {eoa}

13 Things the Church Can Learn From the LGBTQ Community

Whether you agree with their lifestyle, you have to respect how LGBTQ activists have fundamentally transformed American society in one generation.

Inversely, during this same time, Bible-believing Christians and their values went from being in the mainstream of society to a persecuted minority. As a strategist, I enjoy studying influential societal movements. I have been intrigued by how this once-minority movement has influenced every facet of Western society in just a few decades.

The following are things the church can learn from the LGBT community, based on my strategic observations:

1. They humanized their lifestyle. Countless movies, novels, plays and sitcoms have been released to normalize their lifestyle in the eyes of society. The LGBTQ community have been characterized as oppressed victims or as normal people with normal lives and problems who lead productive lives in society.

Today’s church desperately needs to humanize itself in the eyes of the nation. Instead of the ignorant, Bible-thumping, hateful, bigoted image the media depicts the church to be, Christians should create films, novels, plays, music and theater productions that characterize them as human beings who hurt, cry, and experience failure and pain while being the most charitable, creative, forgiving and loving people on the earth.

2. They influenced the media. While the evangelical church of the past generation focused on political action, the LGBTQ community focused on influencing Hollywood movies and mainstream media. They were smart enough to shift the views of culture before attempting to shape politics and shift policy. The evangelical church has learned that mere political influence is not enough for respect and is trying to influence culture again by creating high-level movies, art and entertainment.

3. They influenced political spheres. After influencing American culture through media, the LGBTQ community successfully lobbied for their rights, won over influential political allies and changed laws. Furthermore, they understand that they can influence policy not only by running candidates for office but also by interning, volunteering or joining the staff of elected officials.

4. They redefined words and terms. Since the 1970s, gay activists have successfully taken their official scientific terminology of “homosexual” and replaced it with the word “gay.” This was a brilliant move because the word “gay” has emotional and cultural connotations of being happy and carefree. Other brilliant moves they made were to co-opt the biblical symbol of the rainbow and to utilize the favored word “pride” to brand their global movement. (See Genesis 6-9.)

5. They reframe debates and policy. A perfect example of reframing policy is when they recently successfully characterized the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill, which prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation and identity in kindergarten to third grade, as the “don’t say gay bill.” They have competent media and marketing strategists skilled in framing narratives that can shift opinion in society.

6. They never quit. In the past decade, while I was in Albany trying to debate policy, the legislators called the evangelical church “the firecracker crowd.” They said the church makes a lot of noise when an issue comes up, but they never continue lobbying after their initial reaction. However, the LGBTQ community kept on pushing for same-sex marriage even after every state initially voted against it (approximately a decade ago).

7. They influenced religious spheres. They have not been afraid to engage religious communities that typically disagree with them ideologically (i.e., LGBTQ organizations like “soul force” engage in friendly dialogue with evangelical churches). Also, the LGBTQ community has successfully influenced many historic denominations such as the United Methodist Church (UMC), the Episcopal church and beyond. The UMC has recently been in the news because their affirmation of LGBTQ values has caused a great schism within their ranks.

8. They use a method called gradualism. In the 1990s, the word that was constantly used in the media regarding the treatment of gays was “tolerance.” Now, gay activists have successfully converted much of mainstream culture into celebrating the gay lifestyle. They were smart enough to shift the opinion of culture gradually. An “all or nothing” approach rarely shifts societal views.

9. They had a generational strategy. The book After The Ball laid out a unified generational plan to shift cultural opinion in favor of the gay lifestyle. Conversely, many in the church merely have a one-generational approach regarding the perpetuation of their faith.

10. They integrate their lifestyle into every aspect of their lives and vocations. In general, the LGBTQ community effectively integrates every aspect of their lives and vocations with their worldview. Unfortunately, many Christians serve God in the church but lag as representatives of the kingdom in the workplace.

11. They put their money behind their cause. In their 2011 fight for same-sex marriage, both New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and Tim Gill gave millions of dollars to support New York state senators who would vote in favor of gay marriage.

In my past political efforts, I have been told numerous times by elected officials that the deep pockets of LGBTQ activists influence how they vote simply because candidates feel they need that money to get reelected. Generally speaking, elected officials don’t care about how many people attend the church; what moves them is how many people vote and how much money they raise for political elections.

12. They annually unify with mass rallies. The annual Gay Pride Parade attracts millions of their supporters in many cities across the globe. This saliently demonstrates the unified power of their voice. In the past, some in the evangelical church tried annual gatherings such as “the march for Jesus.” It started off very strong but eventually lost much of its momentum and ceased to function in many cities.

13. Their views are promulgated in public education. Decades ago, the LGBTQ community started introducing groundbreaking children’s books utilized in public education such as Heather Has Two Mommies. Curricula like this guarantee that their perspective will continue to shape the prevailing cultural worldview through the educational sphere. On the other hand, Christians who don’t prioritize the instruction of their children will invariably fail to perpetuate their faith to successive generations. {eoa}

Joyce Meyer: The Key to Having Real Confidence

Do you need more confidence in your life? In this world, we often get the message that we need more self-confidence, but God tells us in His Word that being confident in ourselves is actually a dangerous way to live.

Instead, we need to be confident in Him. And as born-again Christians, we have everything in us — through Christ — that we need to do everything we need to do.

Philippians 3:3 (AMP) says, “For we [who are born-again …] are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory and take pride and exult in Christ Jesus and place no confidence [in what we have or who we are] in the flesh.”

This means our confidence shouldn’t come from what we can do in our own effort or strength, who we know, a professional title or what we look like. This is how the world operates, but God doesn’t see us that way. God sees our heart!

First Samuel 16:7 (AMP) says, “… For the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” God is not impressed with our good works, nice clothes, the kind of car we drive, or anything else that has to do with our outward appearance. The only thing that impresses God is a good heart — a heart that sincerely loves Him, that desires to be obedient to Him and that loves people. When our heart is right with God, we have all the confidence we need to be and do everything He has created us to be and do.

Confidence is a belief that you can do a thing; it’s faith in God that He has equipped you to do it. When you’re confident in who you are in Christ, you can relax, and you won’t be caught up or controlled by fear, worry or anxiety. The key to living with this kind of confidence is understanding that apart from Jesus, you can do nothing of eternal value, but you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength! (See John 15:5; Philippians 4:13.)

I once heard someone say that a Christian with no confidence is like a jumbo jet sitting on the runway with no fuel. In other words, you have all the equipment but no fuel to go anywhere. That’s a frustrating way to live!

We desperately need the wisdom of God if we’re going to accomplish the things He’s planned for us to do. The best thing we can do is be constantly dependent on Jesus. John 15:5 (AMP) says, “I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”

Here’s a good illustration to demonstrate what this verse is talking about: A flower is attached to a vine that gives it life. As long as that flower stays connected to the vine, it is connected to its life source. But once it’s detached, it can’t continue to thrive.

In the same way, we are dependent on Christ to be our source of life. When we accept Him as our Savior and we’re born again, He comes to live in us and gives us life deep within our spirit. We need to really get this because as long as we’re “hanging on the Vine,” looking to God as our vital necessity, then we will be confident we can do whatever we need to do in life.

Jeremiah 29:13 (AMP) says, “Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” I love that! And I often pray, “God, I’m nothing without You. I need You. You have to help me or things just won’t work right.”

God must be our top priority — our vital necessity — every day of our life! There’s nothing more important than having a personal relationship with Him, spending time with Him in prayer and studying His Word. If you will keep Him first, then everything else in your life will fall into place and you’ll have the wisdom, grace and strength to face every challenging situation that comes against you.

I want to encourage you to remember that being self-confident is foolish. It’s rooted in pride and only leads to frustration and dissatisfaction. When you get up each day, before you get busy with your daily responsibilities, take a few minutes to pray.

Tell God, “I need You, Lord. I’m nothing without You, and I know that whatever I do today, it won’t work out right if You don’t help me. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me of everything that’s not right in me — every thought, word and deed. Help me to treat people right today and to be a blessing everywhere that I go. And help me to never forget that I’m blessed because You are good, not because I’m good. Help me to keep You first in my life, Lord. Thank You for helping me. Amen!” {eoa}

The Man Who Spent 23 Minutes in Hell: Why Compassion Shouldn’t Be Confused With Tolerance

There are reasons, perhaps excuses, that hinder people from sharing Christ with others, and there are reasons why people should.

A lot of people want to be perceived as tolerant of everyone’s beliefs, which seems like a compassionate stance to take. However, compassion is not to be confused with tolerance.

We should be considerate and kind but not be tolerant of all beliefs, especially false ones.

Watch this video. You may get convicted of a few things. {eoa}

Bill Wiese and his wife, Annette, founded Soul Choice Ministries in 2000 for the purpose of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jonathan Cahn’s New Prophetic Movie Is a ‘Trumpet Call Across America’ for Revival

On May 12, Jonathan Cahn’s new movie, The Harbingers of Things to Come, hits 822 theaters for its nationwide debut. Initially Cahn planned for the movie to be shown in theaters for one night, but because the ticket sales quickly exceeded his expectations, a showing on May 19 has been added to fill the growing demand.

Cahn has written six New York Times bestselling books, but he has never done a theatrical release of a movie until now. Although Cahn is an accomplished author, he acknowledges that, for many people, books aren’t the best medium. But those same people might go to a movie.

“We’ve never done it in theaters,” Cahn says. “We were praying about it … ‘Should it be? Lord, confirm it.’ And it just took off. The momentum of this just took off very powerfully.”

Theaters in Cahn’s area of New Jersey began to sell out. Cahn even jokes that theaters might be so full that he won’t get to watch it. “This is a trumpet call across America, by the grace of God, that all these theaters—major theaters-—have opened up their doors,” he says.

The Harbinger, Cahn’s first book about 9/11, detailed how the United States is paralleling the path ancient Israel took to turning away from God and eventually being destroyed. The new movie will show how 9/11 was just the beginning and what steps America has taken toward destruction since 2001.

“The culture around us is racing away from God,” Cahn says. “That’s why it’s all the more important to sound the trumpet.”

Is Pope Francis Promoting Witchcraft Unknowingly?

Pope Francis, who is “well known for his affinity for expressions of popular piety and his Marian devotion, is amping up efforts to honor the Virgin Mary this month through a series of weekly prayers at St. Peter’s Basilica,” according to .

In addition to the Vatican events, reports he has “also encouraged believers to make individual acts of prayer, specifically praying for peace in Ukraine.”

This is troubling.

If you live in a region where false Mary worship is rising, you’ll notice that Jezebel’s witchcrafts rise again in May. That’s because of the traditional May Crowning ritual that takes place to honor the Virgin Mary as “the Queen of May.”

Essentially, this means there is a hyperfocus on devotions to Mary. There are two problems with this. First, Mary doesn’t want or expect our devotion — she wants and expects us to worship the Son of God, Jesus. Second, by treating Mary as an idol, we’re empowering the spirit of Jezebel.

Although the Bible describes the mother of Jesus as “highly favored” (see Luke 1:28), that doesn’t mean she is supposed to be worshipped. In fact, the Greek word for favored in this verse is charitoo. Charitoo means “grace.”

God honored Mary with blessings and grace, and we should respect her as the mother of Jesus but not exalt her by crowning her in rituals. We’re supposed to throw our crowns at Jesus’ feet (see Revelation 4:10), not place them on Mary’s head.
