Charismatic Pastor, Therapist Says the Church Is Greatly Mishandling Mental Illness

Fred Antonelli has seen it before, all too often. The way the church treats the issue of mental illness and depression—especially within the charismatic church—must change, he says.

A Spirit-filled and board-certified family temperament therapist as well as a pastor for more than 23 years, Antonelli, who also has a family history of depression, has seen many in the church mishandle the issue of mental illness simply with misguided words.

The suicides of pastors like Jarrid Wilson and Andrew Stoecklein within the past year, Antonelli says, have unfortunately thrust the issue of mental illness within the church into the spotlight.

“Some people within the church might say, especially in a charismatic setting, that all you need is just more prayer, go to service more, sit down at the altar and read more of the Word of God,” Antonelli told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “That’s all tremendous stuff, but when it comes down to it, they won’t acknowledge you may be depressed, and they almost always point out that it’s your fault.

“Then, people who are clinically depressed (and may not recognize it), they go and do all that and more, and they’re still depressed, and they say God must not like me because I’m doing all the right stuff but it just isn’t working. But to say that God doesn’t have a provision for us to have mental wellness is a misnomer.”

“People who are depressed don’t want to say they are because then they are pigeonholed with the stigma that they somehow don’t have enough faith or they are not spiritual or godly enough. The church must stop doing that. God accepts us in our human condition. People have to first acknowledge that they have issues with mental illness because it’s the first step to getting well. They can be set free from the pious hand of legalism.”

Prophetic Confirmation Leads Unlikely Pastor to Plant Growing New York Church

As a young pastor in northwest Indiana, Mike Signorelli knew his dream of launching a church in New York City was a long shot. About ready to give up, he received a prophetic word at a conference—a supernatural confirmation, he says—and he continued to pursue what seemed to be impossible.

A year later, Signorelli and his wife, Julie, and their two daughters, found themselves in New York. The Signorellis now pastor V1 Church, a multicampus church in New York—all because he refused to quit and continued to say yes when God came calling.

“We had this dream, but we didn’t have a team. We didn’t have the finances,” Signorelli told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “It just looked like I was this crazy guy who was trying to do something that just didn’t make sense.

“At the last session of our conference, a guy got up to preach and said, ‘Maybe this is the Holy Spirit leading me, but there is someone that, in the parking lot earlier, had told their wife that their dream was just too crazy. God actually knows you’re not going to give it up. It is going to happen.’ For me, it was like one of those supernatural confirmations where God says it’s not just a pipe dream. So, right in the middle of a pity party, God showed up.

“So, I hope my story encourages people to take one step at a time and just keep moving. I kept saying yes to God. If you keep saying yes to God, then God will be faithful to keep open the doors, will keep giving you provision and keep sending the right relationships to you to guide you with wisdom. If the Holy Spirit keeps nudging you, listen to His voice and take a risk every single day and watch what happens.”

How 7 Words From Kenneth Copeland Broke Curses for This Spirit-Filled Pastor

When Pastor Jim Kibler feels he’s stuck in his daily battle with the enemy, he needs only to refer a phrase Kenneth Copeland invoked more than 50 years ago. Kibler says in 1967, Copeland, while sitting in his home in Oklahoma, said, “Curse, I rebuke you in Jesus’ name.”

Since hearing that, Kibler has used those seven powerful words himself to break the enemy’s strongholds in his life and in others.

“When Kenneth said that, the blessings in his life started to grow,” Kibler told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “His wife, Gloria, said that curse just dried up and he (Kenneth) has lived his life totally unhindered since then. That’s why he’s been so successful, and a lot of other people have done the same thing, including myself. It was huge in my life.

“But God wants us to receive. What we have to do is learn how to possess God’s promises. What we’re all about is teaching people how to possess the promises of God.”

And that’s what Kibler’s new podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network, “Receiving From God,” is all about. The senior pastor at Victory Christian Chapel in Melbourne, Florida, Kibler uses his anointed prayer ministry to help people consistently receive miracles of healing and blessings.

Why Misunderstanding This Scripture Led This Young Jew to Become an Agnostic

As a small child, I sat in my synagogue’s Hebrew school as our teachers would share stories from the Tanakh (the Hebrew Scriptures or Old Testament). I remember listening with excitement as they would share about the heroes of our faith.

The greatest of those heroes was Abraham, the father of our faith. We would hear about how G-D spoke to Abraham:

“Then ADONAI said to Abram, ‘Get going out from your land, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you'” (Gen. 12:1, TLV).

I remember thinking how much faith a person must have in order to get up and leave everything they knew and be willing to travel somewhere without knowing where they will be going and when they will end up there. I remember thinking how hard it was for me to get into my car with my parents without knowing where we were going, while I could see my parents. Yet Abraham simply packed up and left his home and his family behind.

As we read further into the life of Abraham, just 10 chapters later in Genesis, we find what in Judaism is called “The Akidah,” or the “Binding of Isaac,” which begins with:

“Now it was after these things that God tested Abraham. He said to him, ‘Abraham.’ ‘Hineni,’ he said. Then He said, ‘Take your son, your only son whom you love—Isaac—and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains about which I will tell you'” (Gen. 22:1-2).

I can still recall my reaction to first hearing these words. “What? How could a loving G-D ask such a thing of someone who has been so faithful to Him for all this time?” It was beyond my comprehension that after making Abraham wait so long to give him the “son of promise,” Isaac, G-D was asking Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering.

Yet there it wasright there in the Torah. I said to my teacher, “This isn’t fair! It isn’t right! How could G-D ask Abraham, who had already given up everything to follow G-D, to give up the son that he had promised?” My teacher tried to answer my questions to satisfy my anger and bewilderment, but she could not.

This portion of Scripture was one of the reasons I later became agnostic. I desperately wanted there to be a G-D, but I could not reconcile certain passages like this one with a G-D demonstrating love toward those like Abraham who had walked away from everything to follow and serve. It is interesting that this same section of the Torah was so instrumental in my decision to believe that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah.

I hope that this explanation will help you with your struggles if and when it ever appears as if G-D is unjustly asking you to give up something that you love for Him. The answer is that it was precisely because Abraham had been so faithful that G-D asked him to offer Isaac as an offering. You see, G-D had already promised Abraham that Isaac would be the “son of promise”:

“But God said, ‘On the contrary, Sarah your wife will bear you a son and you must name him Isaac. So I will confirm My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his seed after him'” (Gen. 17:19).

What was the covenant that would be confirmed through Isaac?

“My heart’s desire is to make you into a great nation, to bless you, to make your name great so that you may be a blessing. My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” (Gen. 12:2-3).

When we understand that G-D had promised Abraham that through Isaac He would fulfill His covenant and make him into a great nation, we can better understand what the writer of Hebrews stated.

“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had received the promises was offering up his one and only son—the one about whom it was said, ‘Through Isaac offspring shall be named for you.’ He reasoned that God was able to raise him up even from the dead—and in a sense, he did receive him back from there” (Heb. 11:17-19).

Abraham knew that though he was asked to offer his son as an offering, G-D had already promised that Isaac would live. Abraham never saw this as G-D asking him to give up anything; he was only asked to give something. That may be confusing, so let me say it another way.

G-D asked us to be faithful in giving of our financial increase. He asked us to give and, if we are faithful like Abraham, we give. But, we are never asked to give up because He has already promised us in verses such as Luke 6:38 and Malachi 3:10:

“Give, and it will be given to you—a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, overflowing, will be given into your lap. For whatever measure you measure out will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Then there will be food in My House. Now test Me in this’—says ADONAI-Tzva’ot—’if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out blessing for you, until no one is without enough'” (Mal. 3:10).

So you see, G-D may ask us to give of His promises, but He doesn’t ask us to give up His promises. Abraham knew that as long as he was faithful to G-D, G-D would keep His promises. So, even though G-D asked Abraham to offer Isaac, and even though Abraham was completely willing to give of his promise from G-D, he knew that no matter what happened at the end, Issac would be alive. Abraham knew G-D’s promises were sure. In the same way, if it ever seems as if G-D is asking you to give up one of your promises, always remember He may ask you to give it, but He will never ask you to give it up. {eoa}

Prophetic Vision for Rosh Hashana: New Prophetic Voices Are Coming Forth From the Cave

God gave me a prophetic vision while I was in prayer. I saw a mountain that had a hole in it.

As I continued to look, God opened my eyes to see exactly what it was. As I drew closer to this vision, I saw people standing outside of this huge opening covering their mouths. As I continued to look at these people covering their mouths outside this hole in the mountain, I finally was able to make out what it was, a cave. It was the “mouth of a cave.” The Lord took me to 1 Kings 19:11-13 (BSB) where it says:

Then the Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord. Behold, the Lord is about to pass by.” And a great and mighty wind tore into the mountains and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still, small voice. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

God spoke to me that there are prophetic voices and new voices in the seven spheres of dominion that are coming out of the mouth of the cave, spiritually speaking. They will not be voices of fear, doubt, unbelief and error, but voices of purpose, destiny, righteousness, purity, glory, hope, love, faith, boldness and power in the Holy Spirit.

They will not be silenced or controlled by the system of Jezebel or of this world. But God will do a new thing in them and through them. They will come out of the mouth of the cave to be a specialized mouthpiece for God in their generation. This vision was connected to this New Year we are coming into. We are right in the midst of Rosh Hoshana.

As we enter year 5780, the Lord gave me a prophetic word that we are coming into a prophetic time of fulfillment of what has been spoken out of the mouth of God and His prophets. In other words, the prophetic words spoken, decreed and declared over your life and the visions, dreams and burdens of God will come forth out of obscurity and into divine visibility.

God spoke to me that we are entering the threshold of the “decade of the mouth.” The people in the vision were standing at the mouth of the cave. These were powerful existing and new voices emerging on the scene who, at one point, were silenced, muzzled and censored by the enemy.

God said that 5780 (2020) is the decade of speaking what you are seeing! You will speak what you see and see what you speak! In other words, God says that what you speak you will seize. As the last decade was ayin, to see and now entering into the decade of pey, the mouth and, this coming year, 2020 in the Greco-Roman calendar, coincides with the Hebrew year 5780, 80 being part of the “Pey” (rhymes with “pay”) decade that will begin at Rosh Hashana this Sep. 30, 2019.

We must understand that 2019/5779 was a continuation of the last decade in the Ayin, 10 years of the “seeing eye” where God was opening up our spiritual eye gates to see, perceive, discern, look again and gaze into what He is saying. This coming year and the nine years to follow will be an invitation to “speak” what the Lord has been showing you in private in the previous decade. Pey is the Hebrew letter for the number 80—a picture, symbol and illustration of a person’s mouth or a wide opening. God gave me this Scripture in Psalm 81:10: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”

Deliverance, breakthrough, healing, miracles and open heavens are in our mouth. We must be careful what we speak because words vocalized carry creative powers. God is asking, “What is in your mouth?” I love what Matthew 15:17-18 says: “Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man.” Discerning when to speak and when to be silent will be a necessary component during the next decade if we are to experience prophetic fulfillment in our lives.

Ayin (eyes) gives prophetic insight of what we seen in the past, but Pey (mouth) will give divine expression and manifestation of what we speak into being now and in the future. The wisdom of God will be imperative in this new season. The Bible says that there is death and life in the power of your tongue (Prov. 18:21). What are you speaking that you are seeing manifesting in your life presently? What we speak out of our mouth today, we will live in its reality tomorrow negatively or positively. What we decree (decide) out of our mouth will become bonding and legal (read Job 22:8). We must guard our mouth in this new season (Ps. 141:3).

The 12 tribes of Israel, particularly the sons of Issachar tribe indeed, understood the times and seasons that they were in. In their generation, it wasn’t anything new to them to gain a prophetic understanding and forecast of what God was doing and up to next. They not only understood what God was doing, but they moved on it by faith in obedience with wisdom, understanding and revelation. As New Covenant prophetic believers today, we must still discern the times and seasons we are in like the sons of Issachar who knew what to do. “And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do” (1 Chron. 12:32a, KJV).

What you desire to see manifest in your life will be determined by the very words you speak. To speak by faith in agreement or to by ignorance forfeit or delay its process. The enemy wants to keep you hidden, forgotten and disregarded. But there is a remnant who will not shut up! God is breaking the silence and ripping off the muzzle from their mouths. As this is the decade of the widening or opening of the mouth wide, we all must watch over our words like never before to bless, not curse, and choose life, not death, with what we speak. May we use the creative power of our words and the gift of prophecy to empower, encourage, enrich, edify and exhort others (1 Cor. 14:3).

God is basically saying that there are those coming out of the mouth of the cave to be a “mouthpiece” for God to say and speak what He has been showing and revealing to them in the secret place. The wisdom of God will precede prophetic fulfillment. Don’t be silenced!

God will put supernatural speed upon the words you speak, or the enemy will use the words you speak against you. You only have the right to remain silent if the words you speak and things you have seen did not come from the Lord.

The Productivity Secret Every Stressed-Out Christian Needs to Know

As a Christian, frustrated with his own daily productivity, Rex Russell set out to find resources that would not only help him better manage his day but also help other believers conquer key areas in their lives. He soon discovered such a resource didn’t exist.

Russell figured it was up to him to build a guide that incorporates spiritual disciplines to help believers live their lives full of gospel-focused productivity. He created LifeJournal, a 13-week goal-setting, planning, productivity and spiritual disciplines journal designed to make believers’ days less chaotic and to help them make more of an impact on the kingdom.

“Just imagine over the next year to three years if the body of Christ was more organized, more intentional,” Russell told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “I know I want to go through my day with my steps ordered by the Lord. But I want to take those steps to walk in that.

“I’m not God, but if I was, I would want the body of Christ to be intentional and focused and planned out in all aspects of their lives. Take the five foundations of your life—faith, family, finances, fitness and focus—and start journaling around that. Ask yourself which of those areas of your life are out of balance and need repair. God is continually growing us in all of those areas, and He wants us to come up higher. Focus on those things in your journaling and give yourself permission to start over again. You will come up higher.”

Chuck Pierce Prophesies: This Week You Will Hear God Say, ‘It Is Finished’

The Lord says, “This will be a week that you hear Me say ‘It is finished’ over many issues. Listen carefully, for there are emotional entanglements that you have over which I will say, ‘It is finished!'”

There are losses you’ve experienced over which I will say, “It is finished.” There are hurts and wounds you have had over which I will say, “You have been healed. Watch for the end of things this week; many endings will occur so you can be released into the new that I have destined for you.”

Your Unexpected Entry and His Redemptive Plan

“There’s an entry that I have for you, but it will be an unexpected way that you’ve not been looking for. I always have a redemptive plan, and in the midst of My redemptive plan, you must see clearly the way I have opened for you.

“I am calling you in! Watch carefully and then grab hold of the redemptive strand that will come to you this week. Not only will you go in, but I will pull you forward. This advance won’t be of your own strength or by striving to enter in. Rather, I will pull you forward into the place I have for you.”

Resurrection Life and Power Are Coming Your Way!

“There is an explosion of resurrection life and power that is getting ready to emanate from My people. As I draw you into My plans, know that I am drawing out something that is going to begin to transform this world in a way you have never expected.

“Get ready for power and might to come out of you since I am ready to draw out the inner depths of who you are in Me. Get ready—resurrection life and power are your portion, and they’re coming in a mighty way!

“Many of you see the new path in front of you, but feel restrained by forces that would hold you to an old season. In this new era, you will begin to see them break—one by one by one. My hand will reach deep inside of you—not to pull out the unclean, but to pull out My glory. I am determined to draw My glory from deep within you.

“You have been working and working to accomplish something, but there is a spiritual force deposited in you; it is not by how hard you work or how much you do or how right you are, but by My Spirit that you will break forth in this season of spiritual explosions.

“I will let you die daily so that My Spirit can explode within you. Let Me cut you loose from emotional bondage so that I can ignite a spiritual dynamic within you that has never come into fullness. I am cutting you loose from inordinate affections and moving you forward.

“Don’t stop until you see that I am forming new relationships and alignments for you. Even some old alignments you’ve had will become new if you’ll let go of past judgments in old relationships.

“I am cutting you loose—don’t stop until you see the entry before you!” {eoa}

What to Do When Your Adult Child Walks Away From God

Jim Burns says being a parent is a calling that never quits. And in more ways than one, he says, it becomes even more chaotic after your children reach the age of 18.

As the president of HomeWord, the executive director of the HomeWord Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific University and the father of two grown children, Burns helps parents of adult children with complicated issues. These include helping bringing your kids back to faith, which can be a tricky but crucial task.

“I have found that so many, many people, especially within the Christian world, have felt kind of a silent shame because their kids had violated their values or they had strayed from faith, and they didn’t really see that coming,” Burns told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “They had raised their kids in good, God-honoring homes, but their kids were going a different way.

“Many Millennials have a different way of looking at life, how they look at the modern issues of the day including cohabitation, sexuality, pornography and things like that. I have realized that there is this need for about 50 million-plus parents of adults who are trying to help their kids figure these things out.

“You want your kids not to make poor choices, and sometimes there is a lot of pain involved. That’s what HomeWord is about, trying to help you help them make the right choices, but at the same time, we tell parents they need to know when to keep their mouths shut and bite their tongues because ultimately, it’s their choices to make.”

How This Bethel Grad Is Bringing Prophecy Into the Marketplace

Anne Ballard has always had the heart to encourage people and inspire hope in them. Little did she know that she would one day deliver prophetic words through a unique tool that would become her passion.

A graduate of the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California, Ballard, once a nurse, now ministers in the marketplace through The Crowning Jewels, the company she founded. The company creates jewelry designed to speak prophetic words of life over its customers—mostly women—and to call forth their destinies.

“In the marketplace, words are really popular, but I wanted to invoke words in a way that maybe nobody had seen before,” Ballard told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “So, I saw this niche for me to make jewelry with a prophetic declaration that inspires hope and speaks to identity. And that’s where the idea was birthed.”

During her time at Bethel, the message of her identity in Christ impacted Ballard powerfully. She desired to take that message into the marketplace to help others.

“Unless we are firmly rooted in our identity in Christ, we can be tossed about,” Ballard says. “When I began to shape my identity and it began to change me, I knew this was a need that others had, for people to renew their mind with truth.

“Jewelry just kind of lent itself to that. We encourage our customers that if they have a prophetic word spoken over them or they declare it themselves, to send it to us and we can design something that will be a daily reminder of their identity as a child of God. So, we partner with them about what they’ve heard from God.”

God Is Raising Up Men and Women of Wisdom in This Hour

God moves in different ways at distinct times on His eternal timeline. Although God never changes, He has been known to vary His strategies for kingdom advancement, for healing and for revival in a nation.

As I have been praying about what some would label as “the next great move of God,” I have felt a lovely stirring in my spirit and I have clearly heard the whisper of the Father. I believe that the plan of God to usher in a fresh breath of salvation, and a mighty roar of power is going to come through the generals of the faith. Those who have lived lives of honor and virtue for the unshakable kingdom of God, I believe, will instigate this move of God.

There have been moments in history when the Lord has used the enthusiasm and vibrancy of youth, such as the Jesus Movement of the 1960s and 1970s, to propel a generation toward revival. And what a revival that was! Its impact has been felt for over half of a century!

There have been other instances when the Father has used healing crusades and miracles to capture the attention and the hearts of a generation. This was true in the 1950s and 1960s with evangelists such as Oral Robert and Kathryn Kuhlman. TV programs were birthed during this movement, universities were built on the healing power of God and the publishing industry exploded with the testimonies of ordinary men and women who were physically and miraculously healed.

God is able to use donkeys, great fish, prodigals and even floods to speak to the people whom He loves so dearly and is passionately pursuing. The Bible is filled with the strategies and the creativity of God as He chased the men and women who thought they knew better than God did.

I believe that I have heard the sweet encouragement of God that this time, at the first part of the 21st century, He will use men and women of wisdom and even of advanced age to spur on a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.

We live at a moment in earth’s history when youth is celebrated, applauded and even worshipped. Young men and young women are not interested in the voices of their elders but only in the camaraderie of their peers.

Now, it is undeniably true that a young person can experience the power and the anointing of the Holy Spirit even when their years on earth can only be measured in three decades or less. However, wisdom is something that is earned through a lifetime of experiences, faithfulness and maturity.

Therefore, allow me to call forth the voices of old men and seasoned women to begin to speak to a generation. If you are in your 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or even 90s, God is not done with you yet! It is time for you to pray with power and to minister to those under your watch. If you have lived a half of a century or longer, ask God to give you dreams and visions so that you, too, will be part of the next great move of God!

“The gray-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness” (Prov. 16:31).

Your wisdom is irreplaceable, practiced and competent sons and daughters of God! Your faithfulness will set the table for a banquet so massive and so breathtaking that generations to come will find nourishment from the lives that you have lived and from the insight that you have provided for them to feast upon.

At this moment, and at this hour, mothers and fathers in the house of God must not be cast aside but they must be honored, listened to and even sought after. This may be the most profound move of God that has ever taken place among humanity and it will be instigated by hearts of wisdom, voices of experience and lives of faithfulness.

“Now also when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I have proclaimed Your strength to this generation, and Your power to everyone who is to come” (Ps. 71:18). {eoa}
