Created for God’s Glory

Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, “Give them up!” and to the south, “Do not keep them back!” Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.—Isaiah 43:5–7

When we read these verses, we should lift our eyes toward God in worshipful awe. God actually refers to our offspring as His sons and His daughters. In other words, God is saying, “Because they belong to you, they belong to Me. Because you have named My name over their lives, I claim them as My own.”

God also asserts that our offspring have been created for His glory. The world system would like to seduce our seed to spend their lives giving glory to that which has little or no value. Declare over your child that his talents or her abilities will never be wasted in vain pursuits, but that his or her life will be invested only in that which gives praise, honor, and acclaim to the Creator.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I pray that You will gather _____________ unto Yourself and deliver him/her from all the entrapments of this world. Because of the covenant we share, all that I have belongs to You. So I confess Your name over _____________, and I believe You will claim him/her as Your own. I trust You to prevent _____________ from devoting his/her life to that which would glorify human achievement alone. Instead, awaken such divinely inspired purpose in my child that glory ascends to You from his/her life. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

Biblical Symbolism Behind the 4th of July

One of the most amazing facts about the Founding Fathers is this–the one referred to as the “voice” of the revolution (John Adams) and the one referred to as the “pen” of the revolution (Thomas Jefferson) both died on the same day, July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years from the formation of the United States of America in 1776. Some would call this a mere “coincidence;” I prefer to call it a “God-incidence,” a sign of the Creator’s providential care and divine involvement in the formation of this unique and blessed nation.

It is doubly amazing to see that the number 50 actually represents “liberty” in Biblical symbolism. Why? Because every 50 years, the Jewish people were commanded to celebrate a special year called the “Year of Jubilee.” This was a year when prisoners were set free, debts were forgiven and land was restored to its original owners. Great joy reigned over all the land. Interestingly, a phrase from the section of Scripture describing that recurring event is even found on one of our most beloved national emblems, the Liberty Bell:

“Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land to all the inhabitants thereof.” (Lev. 25:10)

This double-sign, in my opinion, is double-proof that it was God, and not just man, that raised up this bastion of freedom for His purposes to be accomplished in the earth. Not only have we been the natural bread-basket of the world; we have been the spiritual bread-basket of the world as well. We cannot lose sight of this “calling” in the face of so much anti-American sentiment and even the disappointment we may feel concerning our own government. Yes, there have been abuses of both political and military power and selfish corporate agendas that have fouled the waters of our influence among the nations. But there are still many rivers of living water, flowing out of the bedrock of this republic, from multiplied thousands of ministries and Christian-run businesses who have changed the world in significant ways: financially, educationally, socially, governmentally, and most of all, spiritually.

Now our freedoms are being challenged in many ways. More than ever, it is time for the church to arise, on both a local and national level, and claim our nation for the Kingdom of God. For the sake of our heritage and the ones who sacrificed to pass it on to us, we must increase our efforts. For the sake of our children, we must strive to purify our society and culture. For the sake of the Kingdom of God, we must keep preaching the Good News and lifting up the Name of Jesus.

The Liberty Bell was actually created in 1753, after two failed attempts. This speaks a very important truth to us: that we should never give up on an ideal. Instead, may we tenaciously hold on to our vision, even in times when it seems to fail or when it doesn’t work right.

It is also vital to understand that the Liberty Bell was first ordered as a 50-year memorial of William Penn’s extraordinary “Charter of Privileges” in Pennsylvania. Little did the forgers know that it would ultimately represent something far greater and far more important–on a national scale. In like manner, our efforts in spreading the Gospel may, at times, seem small compared to the need, but the “God who gives the increase” can magnify and amplify our work by

His supernatural power (I Cor. 3:7).

According to one of the most popular legends, the Liberty Bell cracked when it was rung at the death of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835. And so it is, that when justice “dies” (as in the horrendous slaughtering the unborn in our society), then the “liberty” of this republic is seriously and severely damaged. Justice must reign for all, if liberty is to reign for all.

Finally, let us not shrink before those who would ridicule our faith. Instead, let us hold to the truth that standing for the Bible is one of the most American things that we can do. Immediately after the Declaration of Independence, the newly formed Continental Congress ordered 20,000 copies of the Bible to be distributed in the colonies. America’s leaders were passionate about the spreading of God’s Word in that day—and it’s part of our heritage, regardless of what the post-modern secularists want America to be now.

On this July 4th, let us unite together in prayer that God will heal our land by sending another “Great Awakening,” not only taking us back to our roots, but taking us deeper than ever into a culture that is both God-honoring and Bible-based. That is our only hope. No political, social, or economic program will cure our ills unless we experience another great outpouring from the throne room of God. The God of heaven has done it before; He can do it again!

Claim Salvation for You and Your Family

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” —Acts 16:31, NKJV

Amazingly this promise was not made to a seasoned saint but to an unsaved man on the verge of suicide. God had just responded to the praise of Paul and Silas by sending an earthquake that shook open the doors of the prison in which they were held. Assuming the prisoners had escaped, the Philippian jailer was about to kill himself.

“But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, ‘Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.’ Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household’” (Acts 16:28–31).

If a man just introduced to the faith could receive this divine commitment, how much more those who have fought the good fight of faith for years! We who believe have a legal right to claim our families for the kingdom, for the King has pledged, “I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children” (Is. 49:25). Salvation means deliverance, so God is promising to deliver our children.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, based on these promises, I claim salvation for my child. I believe You will contend with any satanic force that may be contending with our family. You are the God of an army of angels that have been “sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation” (Heb. 1:14, KJV). So dispatch them, Lord, to protect and defend my child. I pray You will save ______________ from the deception of this world and grant him/her all the benefits of salvation. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

How Divine Mercy Flows to Your Offspring

Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.

—Deuteronomy 7:9

Mercy is compassion shown especially to those who have engaged in criminal behavior. In a sense, we have all been criminals, for we have all broken God’s laws. Titus 3:5 says God saves us, not because of “works of righteousness” but because of “His mercy.” According to Deuteronomy 7:9, God stores up a reservoir of mercy for our seed also, so when they need it, His divine compassion will overflow their lives.

God promised to preserve David’s dynasty forever. If his offspring sinned, they would be chastened, but divine mercy would protect the Davidic throne. When Solomon, David’s son, petitioned God to bless the temple at its dedication, he reminded the Lord of His promise that “sure mercies” would hover over the seed of David (Isa. 55:3). God responded by sending such intense glory in the temple that the priests could not even enter (2 Chron. 6:41–7:3). This event illustrates how powerfully God honors parents who serve Him. If He did it for David’s seed, He will do it for ours—and God’s mercy and glory will overflow in their lives.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I believe You store up mercy for the offspring of the righteous. If my child errs in life, I believe Your mercy will guide him/her back to You to find forgiveness, cleansing, and restoration. Lord, have mercy upon _____________ and deliver him/her in every trial, temptation, failure, or disappointment. I appeal to You, O Father of mercies, to make my child a vessel of mercy on whom You will pour out Your glory and through whom You will express Your mercy to others. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

Is Your Heart Circumcised?

And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. —Deuteronomy 30:6

Once a person’s heart is circumcised, the potential is awakened in him to passionately love the heavenly Father. Romans 5:5 says, “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” So this is evidently a work of God.

God promises that those He “circumcises” will love God with all their hearts. When this truly happens, children will automatically be attracted to those things God loves—the things that have eternal value.

This impartation of love is so important that Jesus even climaxed His ministry by praying that the Father’s love would indwell all new covenant believers (John 17:26). If He prayed this over us, we should certainly pray it over our children.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I admit that only You can awaken love for the things of God in my child’s heart. I trust You to do that. I believe _____________ will not only love You but will also love the things You love such as truth, righteousness, and kindness. I believe _____________ will be a very loving child—loving family, loving others in the body of Christ, and loving the lost of this world who have not yet found their way. Yes, I confess that the love of God will be poured into the heart of my child. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

Bring Your Kids to an Encounter With God

And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. —Deuteronomy 30:6

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the male foreskin, usually performed shortly after birth. It is a symbol of God “cutting away” from our hearts the “covering” of fleshly attitudes that prevent us from loving and serving Him.

Often we trust in mere instruction and discipline to effect this change in our children. In this verse, God is promising to do it supernaturally. Convincing a child through logic and reason is nowhere near as powerful as when that child has an encounter with God that transforms him or her from within. Praise God, the Most High pledges to do that very thing (Rom. 2:28–29).

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I claim for my child a circumcised heart, that You will “cut away” the worldliness, the carnality and the sensuality that could otherwise corrupt him/her. I acknowledge that this is a promised divine deliverance, a supernatural act of God, and not something I can force by mere religious instruction. I trust You, Lord, to work this awesome, internal transformation in ___________ and give him/her a circumcised heart. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

How to Fight for Your Family in the Spirit

Are you claiming God’s promises for your children?

For years I have studied the powerful and edifying subject of the promises of God. There are literally thousands to be discovered and claimed. Several years ago, however, God gave me a flash of inspiration. It dawned on me that He has given a number of promises specifically concerning the sons and daughters of those who serve God.

That means your children—simply because of your faith in God—are protected by a mighty covering.

Are you living in light of this truth?

For Generations and Generations

Knowing God’s promises is essential because they give His people a basis for their faith. Once God’s promises are known, we don’t need to beg Him to do what He has already pledged to do. Instead, we can come to Him boldly, confessing His Word, fully expecting a manifestation.

Too often mothers and fathers do the opposite. They pray in desperation, begging God to move in the lives of their children. But that pleading approach went out the window forever in my life when God breathed this new insight into my spirit.

One of the first promises He led me to find was Deuteronomy 7:9, which says, “He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments” (emphasis added).

When I read those words, I shook my head in amazement. A generation, biblically speaking, is 100 years long (see Gen. 15:13-16). Doing the quick math, I calculated 1,000 generations times 100 years each—well, wow! If we sincerely walk with God in this life, then an invisible blessing will pass down through our family lines for 100,000 years. Can you imagine?

Of course, the 100-year parameter for each generation is likely not an exact figure, but a symbolic one, showing how dependable and long-lasting this promise is. But think about it. The principle still stands. Long after we’re gone, God’s covenant will hover over our offspring to empower them, and a reservoir of mercy will be there to restore them in time of need. And if that works for 1,000 generations, how much more powerful it is for the next two or three!

It was a Holy-Spirit-saturated moment that opened my eyes to the enduring impact of a life committed to God.

It’s Time to Declare the Decree

Sensing the importance of this revelationI temporarily halted my other writing projects and began searching the Word intensely. Within several months, I had amassed 65 nuggets of gold in that mother lode—65 divinely authored commitments God makes to our children in His Word.

The following quickly became some of my favorites (with my emphasis added):

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live” (Deut. 30:19).

“And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you might live” (Deut. 30:6).

“I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring. They will spring up among the grass like willows by the watercourses” (Is. 44:3-4).

At a certain point, I reached a spiritual impasse. I concluded that never again would I plead for a move of God in my children’s lives. Instead, in the words of Psalm 2:7, I began to “declare the decree.”

In ancient times, after a king made a decree, he would send representatives into every corner of his domain to “declare the decree,” establishing as universal law what was initially a decision heard only by those present in the throne room. Now, because the enthroned King of all creation has decreed these 65 promises over our children, it is our responsibility to declare them—to verbally reinforce God’s laws in the natural realm, defying everything that opposes His purpose.

The Fruit of Promise

To declare the decree, I began praying prophetically. “I choose life for our family,” I proclaimed. “The death-dealing elements of this world will not destroy our children. According to God’s promise, He will circumcise their hearts—cutting away the influence of the world—and awaken within them love for Him and love for the truth. Yes, I claim it. He will pour out both His blessing and His Spirit on my seed.”

Within a few months of praying this way, my 5-year-old daughter was baptized with the Holy Spirit. After lying on the floor for about 30 minutes, crying and speaking in tongues, she fell into my arms and whispered, “Daddy, Jesus filled me—He really filled me.”

Was the timing just coincidental? I don’t think so.

Actually, my wife and I had to fight the good fight of faith just to have a family. We were told initially it was impossible for us to have children, but we prayed, and the God of Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel and Hannah did it again—He worked another miracle, healing my wife, Elizabeth, of barrenness.

Our firstborn, Zion Seth, suffered oxygen deprivation during a very traumatic birth. The attending doctors claimed it would result in serious mental and physical challenges for him, to the point where he would probably never function normally. Instead, he entered college three years ago in the top honors society on campus, and physically he has no problems.

The challenges escalated with our next pregnancy. Around the fifth month, Elizabeth went in for her normal checkup, where, with very grim looks on their faces, the doctor and his attending nurse showed us the ultrasound image, explaining that our daughter had spina bifida—a hole in her spine—and would be crippled as a result. Next, the doctor advised that our daughter would have cretinism—a type of retardation—because of a thyroid condition Elizabeth was battling. Much to our surprise, even though he knew we were committed Bible believers, he suggested we consider an “alternative.” (We knew he meant an abortion.)

Our response? We agreed never to return to his office again, but instead to rely on the Word of God!

Often during that pregnancy, we prayed Psalm 138:8 (“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me”) and Psalm 139:13 (“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb”), expecting the curse to be reversed. Then we chose a name for our daughter, prophetically calling her Destiny Hope to counteract the prognosis they gave that she would have no hope and no destiny.

It worked. At some point in the next few months, the healing took place, and Destiny was born perfectly healthy. I believe these miracles happened because we dared to believe the promises God gave in His Word.

A Demonstration of Faith

In a variety of ways and means, this is a major part of what faith is all about—each generation transferring to the next what we have received from the everlasting Father.

This is God’s perspective too. For instance, when He revealed Himself to Noah, He made a pledge that continues even to this day: “As for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you. … Never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth” (Gen. 9:9, 11).

Moreover, when God manifested Himself to Abraham, He didn’t just foretell that the great patriarch of our faith would be a channel of God’s blessing to others. Rather, He pledged to him, “In your seed shall all nations of the earth be blessed” (Gen. 22:18)—a promise that is still unfolding in amazing ways.

Read Hebrews 11. Most of the stories in that chapter, often dubbed “Faith’s Hall of Fame,” describe the effects of faithfulness on offspring of those who walked with God—the production of the seed, the protection of the seed, the perpetuation of the seed or the transference of blessing to the seed.

They Already Belong to God

Even if your children are presently walking in darkness and refusing to acknowledge the truth you embrace, don’t give in to discouragement. If you’re a lover of God, He’s adopted your kids as His own.

Read the following promise carefully: “Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him” (Is. 43:5-7, emphasis added).

Notice God begins this passage by calling them “your descendants.” Then He commands, “Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth.” Apparently, because these children belong to you, God claims them as His own (since what belongs to you is “on the altar” and actually belongs to Him). The Redeemer promises to place His canopy of protection and provision over their lives. According to 1 Corinthians 7:14, they are even considered “holy” in the sight of heaven, separated from the world and consecrated to God’s purposes.

Though Satan and his demonic underlings constantly fight for the control of your children’s lives, God has uttered the war cry: “I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children” (Is. 49:25). That settles it—you and I had better not put a question mark where God has placed a period! As far as God is concerned, it is finished. He just needs you and me to pray the prayer of agreement and then to make a commitment to wait on the Lord.

Surely by now you can sense the power that comes from knowing and confessing these promises—and not just the few mentioned in this article. You need to become well-acquainted with the promises of God for your children—all 65 of them!—and start building a spiritual “wall of fire” around your family (Zech. 2:5).

Will you join me in the proclamation of these promises over our children? Let’s see the goodness of the Lord overflow with blessing from generation to generation, for hundreds of thousands of years.

Choose Life for Your Children

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. —Deuteronomy 30:19–20

When we as believers choose life, that automatically involves choosing obedience. On the other hand, if we disobey God, we are choosing death. This is simple to understand; the Bible doesn’t mince words on this issue. God warned Adam and Eve in the beginning, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen. 2:16–17).

When Adam and Eve chose disobedience, they chose death—and passed the curse of death on to their offspring. Those who choose life walk in obedience to God. In doing so, they pass the legacy of life and obedience on to their seed. You’ve heard the old saying, “Like father, like son.” That’s the way it works.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I claim this promise from Deuteronomy 30. I refuse the spiritual death that results from a life of sin; instead, I choose life. I choose righteousness. I choose to walk in obedience to Your Word and Your will. In response, I believe You will cause a spirit of obedience to rest upon ____________ . Instead of the curse of death, he/she will inherit a legacy of life—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—and obediently walk in it all the days of his/her life. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!

Give Your Child God’s Best

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. —Deuteronomy 30:19–20

First, this passage can be seen as a promise of a long and prosperous physical life. (See Psalm 91:14–16.) But more importantly, it refers to “life” in the mental, emotional, and spiritual sense. Anger, pride, lust, depression, fear, rebellion—these attitudes will take you and your children away from God’s best for your lives. A home dominated by these attitudes is very dark and full of “death” indeed! When parents “choose life,” they tend to walk in attitudes that are the polar opposite: love, humility, selflessness, joy, faith, and obedience to God. These life-giving attitudes of the heart are then passed on to their children, and the life of God embraces them also.

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I claim this promise from Deuteronomy 30. Because I choose to live for truth and for God, I believe spiritual life will be passed to my child. I pray that he/she will continue the family tradition of choosing life and be filled with the very life of God. In doing so,____________ will escape the destructive results of a life of sin. I confess that the life-giving attributes of God’s nature—love, joy, peace, righteousness, and goodness—will fill our home, our lives, and our relationship. Yes, I choose life for myself and for my offspring. In the name of Jesus, amen (let it be so)!
