Struggling in Prayer? Here’s the Hope (and Help) You Need

My friend is lost. And I don’t know how to pray for him.

In fact, I don’t even know what to pray.

If we’re honest, most of us would say we have similar struggles in prayer. So instead of praying for a specific person or situation, we either pray only for ourselves and our own needs.

Or, worse, we don’t pray at all.

But not knowing how or what to pray, Jon Graf says, is the very time we need to do so.

“I’ve found that the longer somebody prays over a topic where they come back to it and come back to it, what happens is they get God’s heart for that topic,” the president of the Church Prayer Leaders Network tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network.

“God starts to infuse them with His heart for that person or that situation,” Graf says. “And then a lot of times, as we pray more for something, and we get God’s heart, God begins to move and nudge us to become the answer to our prayers.”

The person who didn’t know how to pray for his lost friend often becomes the one who decides, “I’m going to share my faith,” or “I’m going to help my neighbor” after taking the step to pray, Graf says.

“And so that really is the ultimate of what we’re looking for: that we get people praying on something,” he explains. “We help them to pray with more Scripture and more faith, and then God starts to do the work in their heart, and they start to become the answer.

“How many people do you know who were praying for a nation and all of a sudden decided to take a prayer journey to that nation or mission trip?” Graf asks. “That’s what happens. … And so that’s what we’re trying to do.”

How God Is Using a ‘New 22’ to Bring Hope to a Generation

“The Lord wants to give you a new 22.”

As someone who doesn’t like guns, those weren’t the words Pastor Adam Narciso wanted to hear—even from the prophet who approached him with this declaration one Sunday morning.

“I live in Middle Tennessee, but I’m from California,” he tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network.

“It’s not about guns, Adam,” the man continued. “The Lord wants to give you 20-, 21- and 22-year-olds who are going to come alongside of you to reach high school students in this region.”

“A few weeks later, we received an email from a leader of the House of Prayer here in Franklin,” Narciso says.

In the email, this leader, Karen Hall, told him about a dream that declared a youth movement coming to America. ” And she prophesied that every campus in Williamson County is open to the gospel,” Narciso says. “And then they said in a dream, they looked up into the sky and a blimp was writing in the sky: “The time is now.”

“And I just thought, That’s the word of the Lord. My heart is burning to reach students, but God, I need teammates. And the Lord says, ‘I’m going to give you a new 22.'”

A month later, Narciso says, he was scheduled to speak at an evangelism training session for college students from across the state. He says, “The Lord spoke to me beforehand, and He said, ‘I’m going to give you your new 22.'”

After his teaching ,a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old sat down with Narciso in the foyer. They told him, “The whole time you were speaking, our hearts were just burning with this sense that we need to partner with you. They said, ‘Can we partner with you to help reach high school students in our region?’

“The new 22 is here,” Narciso says. “Part of the key to reaching young people is young people.”

How God Moved This ‘Elijah’ to Transfer Legacy of Fire to Pastor Sam Rodriguez

“God told me you’re a champion.”

Any of us would love to hear those words, but Pastor Sam Rodriguez, longtime Assemblies of God pastor and president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, heard them in a way that both anointed and prepared him for the God-ordained tasks ahead. He shares the story with Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network.

“So in my 20s, I was ministering to primarily Latino young people in large venues, with 5, 7, 10,000 young people gathering in coliseums and auditoriums,” Rodriguez says. “And the message would be faith and education. So I would travel around the country. I’m a Pentecostal preacher. So we want to see them saved, delivered, healed, baptized in the Holy Spirit, pursuing righteousness, but horizontal mobilization.

“So we would tell young people, ‘Go to college, advance your God-given calling, impact the marketplace and so forth,'” he explains. “And that, all of that, prompted a man named Dr. Jesse Miranda … he was passing the baton to ‘his Elijah,'” Rodriguez says.

Miranda, whom Rodriguez says he called “The Godfather,” is known as the father of U.S. Latino Protestantism, and he had searched nationwide for his successor.

“God spoke to him and said, ‘Samuel Rodriguez is it,'” Rodriguez says. “I was one of three candidates across the country. And Miranda said, ‘God told me you’re a champion. So I’m going to pass the legacy. There are about 3,000 churches in the network. And I’m going to pass it over to you; you can rename and rebrand to do whatever God tells you to do.'”

Rodriguez says that set the stage for his multifaceted ministry today. “We took that challenge, and we named it the NHCLC. And we have over 42,000 churches by the grace of God.”

From Smoke-Filled Prison Cell to Raging Pit of Fire—Why No One Wants to End Up in Hell

“I was first in a prison cell, but it was like a filthy, stinking, smoke-filled dungeon. The heat was so far beyond the ability to sustain life, and there were demons in the cell that were playing In the cell, and they grabbed me; they tormented me. They caught my flesh; they threw me into the wall of this prison cell.”

That’s how Bill Wiese describes his time in hell during a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. The horrific vision God gave him has now launched not only a bestselling book, 23 Minutes in Hell, but a ministry that has seen countless souls rescued from the utter hopelessness he experienced.

Wiese shares that he got up to get a drink of water one night and suddenly felt “Like I was being pulled out of my body. And I actually saw my body fall to the floor. … I started traveling down this long tunnel. And it was getting hotter and hotter. And then I landed on a stone floor in an actual prison cell in hell.”

Wiese says he was fully awake and cognizant; this was not a dream. “I wondered, How did I get here? Why am I here? How am I still alive?” he says. And the Lord told him the horrific pain he experienced there was only a small portion of what those who end up in hell for eternity will face.

After his time in the prison cell, Wiese says, “I was placed over next to this large, raging pit of fire. This pit, I understood, was about a mile across. And this is where I could first see the people. They were inside this pit burning—literal fire—and people were screaming. It was so loud and deafening. You wanted to get away from the screams, but you couldn’t. … You could not distinguish a man from a woman. They just looked like skeletons. And the heat was just unbelievable.”

But that wasn’t the worst part of his experience, Wiese says. To hear what he says next about the true horrors of hell and why we should all take every opportunity to keep people from ending up there, listen to the entire episode of Greenelines here. ‘I’m There to Speak Prophetically and Walk Away,’ Pastor Sam Rodriguez Says About Advising Presidents

Not everyone has the opportunity to speak into the life of a president. Famed evangelist Billy Graham held that role for many years with multiple officeholders. And Pastor Sam Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, has advised three former presidents: President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump. However, he says, he has a unique prophetic connection to this role.

“I’m there to speak prophetically and then walk away,” he tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. “And that’s my story.” Rodriguez adds that God has given him three major points to focus on: life, religious liberty and biblical justice.

But despite his passionate involvement with each of these causes, Rodriguez says, “I’m open to advising this new president, if called upon. I will never compromise my values. I never did before. I advised presidents that I never voted for, by the way. So I’m not here to endorse them or their platform. I’m there to speak prophetically and walk away.”

And God has given Rodriguez a specific way to handle this, he says. “I would actually go in there, be with President Bush, be with President Obama, even with President Trump, I would walk in, and they would say, ‘Samuel, what say ye?’ and I would share whatever I believe.”

Rodriguez, a longtime Assemblies of God pastor, says, “In all of my presidential White House meetings, I would actually ask the Holy Spirit, ‘Holy Spirit, if You don’t tell me to say anything, I will not. Matter of fact, I won’t even ask to speak. If You want me to speak, convict the president or whoever’s in charge of the meeting to call upon me. If they don’t call upon me, I won’t speak. So if You really want me to say something, You make a way for me to say something, but if I have to force it, I won’t say it.’

“And that was my policy,” Rodriguez said. “There were meetings that I attended that I just said nothing. And then there were some where the president would say, ‘Sam, you know, we haven’t heard from you. What say ye? What say ye?’ And then I would chime in and share whatever the Spirit of God had placed on my heart.”

To hear more from Pastor Sam Rodriguez about what he believes is his God-ordained role in advising presidents and the anointing he believes the church has to “speak truth to power,” listen to the entire episode of Greenelines here. End-Times Expert Says We Must Stop Looking to Politics for Answers to America’s State of Crisis

We can all agree that America is hurting. Headlines reveal that the pandemic lockdown as well as mass civil and political unrest have left us in a state of financial, mental and emotional distress.

“There’s not going to be a political solution in this country,” author, political commentator and end-times expert Michael Snyder tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of the Greenelines podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. In fact, he says, the church has been looking in the wrong place for answers.

“Over the past four years, in the evangelical movement, we’ve been worshipping politics and politicians and thinking this is how we’re going to turn the country around,” he says. “No matter—even if we won every political race, even if we were successful in politics. On every level there, we’re not going to turn the country around without God, without repentance. And that’s what we need.

We must repent, Snyder says, because “We really are in the end times. The judgment of America has begun, and it’s going to accelerate and get even worse. Very, very difficult times are ahead of us, and it’s because as a nation, we have rejected God; we’ve turned our backs on God. Even throughout the past four years, the American people have continued to race after sin.”

But there is hope, Snyder says. Despite these trying times, those who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ “will always have hope” and know that, at the end of everything, God wins.

For more from Michael Snyder about how we can cope in these days of end-times warning, listen to the entire episode of Greenelines here, and be sure to subscribe to Greenelines for inspirational stories, prophetic encouragement and more. {eoa}

Why John Burton Says the Church Needs to Bring Back the Holy Spirit

Apostolic minister John Burton envisions what he says is a much-needed radical reformation for the church. And it begins, he says, in the place of prayer.

“We need to create an environment where Spirit-driven, Holy Spirit prayer is the main thing,” he tells Dr. Steve Greene on a popular episode of the Greenelines podcast on Charisma News.

And here’s what that could look like, Burton explains. “You walk in on a Sunday morning, and instead of just a greeter shaking your hand and saying hi to a friend and sitting down, the worship team starts playing, now you’re walking in, and people are weeping at the altar, or they’re pacing around the room, or they’re crying out for revival, or they’re releasing declarations and decrees on the microphone and rapid-fire prayer like they do at IHOP or these types of things … You walk into this environment where the Holy Spirit is legitimately allowed to do anything that He wants.”

But Burton cautions that this radical reformation is not a “circus atmosphere” of the flesh. “Flesh and emotion will be involved; we can’t shut that down,” he says. “We can’t shut everything down and hope to have this nice, little perfectly pure Holy Spirit moment. But we don’t want to have that natural circus happening. We want a supernatural move of God, where the people are encouraged to go for it from that place where they’re just burning in intercession, and they’re trained in intercession. They know how to hear God’s voice; they understand what it is to live in the Spirit and walk in the Spirit.”

Burton says when churches walk in the Spirit like this and intercede in powerful ways, we will see everything change, including the wave of ministers who have experienced moral failure. Instead, the church will be a “furnace of intercession” that moves everyone who experiences it to a genuine Spirit-filled walk with God.

The Prayer That Delivered a World War II Miracle—and More

Peggy Joyce Ruth used to live her life in fear of what might happen—until God revealed Himself to her in what she calls a “supernatural dream.” He spoke words from what she later found out was Psalm 91 over her: “In your day of trouble, call on Me, and I will answer.”

As a pastor, author and international speaker, Ruth has devoted her life to sharing this Psalm 91 answer with others, she tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. And through the years, others have shared the power of this psalm with her as well.

“In World War II, one of our bombers was returning from a real successful mission, and they ran out of gas,” she says. “They had to make a forced landing on a Japanese-occupied island,” she says. “Now that was serious. And so the men began to tell their chaplain … ‘You’ve been telling us about Psalm 91. But this is your chance to prove it.’

“They said he really got to praying,” Ruth says. “And their first miracle was that they had landed on the beach, that island, and they were not noticed by the Japanese. They said, ‘A big bomber? How could that even happen?'”

But the chaplain continued praying Psalm 91. And at about 2 a.m., Ruth says, “They heard a new sound. And they discovered a large barge had washed up the bit on the beach. And the deck was covered with drums filled with high-octane gasoline. And they thought they were dreaming. They used their in-flight refueling hose and were able to take off down the beach runway.

“Now a lot of the people who heard their story right at first just couldn’t believe it,” Ruth says. So they decided to look into it.

“They found out later that when the skipper of a U.S. tanker had found himself in submarine-infested waters, he had ordered his gasoline cargo put on a barge to lessen the danger from a torpedo hit … And they were some 600 miles from where that bomber was going to land,” Ruth explains. “Well, in a few weeks, that barge had drifted the whole 600 miles, beached just 50 feet from that stranded bomber, and had gotten there within 12 hours of their landing on the island.

“They’d gone through the night, and right before morning, the gasoline was there,” she says. “And then they found out that God had done a miracle, to have the gasoline get to them just when they needed it.”

How John Wimber’s Moment of Weakness Became Randy Clark’s Revelation of Strength

Randy Clark, founder of Global Awakening, has seen thousands healed across the globe through his ministry.

But God used Vineyard founder John Wimber to teach Clark, who at the time pastored a small Baptist church, a lesson that would forever change his life and his ministry. He shares the story with Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network.

Wimber, Clark says, had invited him to a large church where he was preaching. Wimber told him to “follow him like a shadow, and then watch, and then after the meeting was over, ask him questions.”

What Clark didn’t realize, he says, was that Wimber intended to mentor him because “he had heard God speak about what He was going to do in my life later on.”

The first night of Wimber’s meeting, Clark says, “Everybody he prayed for got healed. The next night, nobody he prayed for got healed—not one. I’ve never seen that happen—just that one night.

“So on the way out of the meeting, toward his room, he asked me if I had any questions.

“I said, ‘I do.’

“‘And so let me tell you what your question is.’

“I said, ‘OK, tell me.’

“‘You want to know why everybody I prayed for last night got healed, and nobody tonight that I prayed for got healed. Is that your question?'”

Of course, Clark responded in the affirmative.

“And he looked at me, and he kind of smiled,” Clark says. “But he also said, ‘You still don’t get it. Do you?’ … And then he said, ‘Randy, I had no more faith last night I did tonight—when everybody got healed last night, and nobody tonight. I didn’t have any more sin in my life tonight than I did last night.

“All I did last night was stick out my hand, say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit,’ just blessed whatever God did,” Wimber told Clark. “And that’s what I did tonight. Last night, I didn’t go to bed feeling like I was this great man of God. And tonight, I’m not going to bed feeling like I’m a great failure of God. And tomorrow, I’m going to get up and do it again.”

“That changed my life,” Clark says. “In that moment … I realized, this great healing anointing on Wimber is totally God. And he’s just a humble man willing to work and make himself available. And he said, ‘I just stick out my fat hand and say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit.’ And I said, ‘I can do that.’ I can stick out my hand and say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit,’ and then try to bless whatever happens.

“That was the turning point. I really saw John Wimber, and I want to honor him as a man of God. But I had him on a pedestal. And nobody could be like him. I couldn’t be like him. But it was in his moment of weakness that was so encouraging to me,” Clark says.

Bethel’s Kris Vallotton Says You Must Tap Into Holy Spirit’s Power to Change Your Mind

Sooner or later, we all change our mind about something. But have we thought about allowing God to change our mind?

We should, author and speaker Kris Vallotton, senior associate leader of Bethel Church in Redding, California, tells Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. And doing so can not only change our lives, but the lives of those we encounter.

“I have a neighbor, let’s say, who hates me,” Vallotton says. “And he says terrible things to me. He curses at me; he does terrible things to me. And I say, ‘OK, well, how does God think about that?’

“And then I go to Romans 12,” he adds. “God says, ‘Bless those who persecute you; love your enemies. Pray for those who hate you. Do good to those who do bad to you.’ And I tell myself, ‘OK, that’s how God thinks.’

“But then I go to 1 Corinthians 2 and I ask, ‘What is God thinking about my neighbor, John, who’s doing that to me?’ Vallotton continues. “And then all of a sudden, I tap into the Holy Spirit’s thoughts, God’s thoughts about John, my neighbor.

“And suddenly the Holy Spirit shows me John’s father was a pastor,” he says. “And he abused John, and he grew up with incongruence. From the podium, John’s dad said one thing, but he did a different thing at home, and on and on.”

At this point, Vallotton says he realized “The Holy Spirit just showed me not the principles that God thinks, but actually what God’s thinking about John. … So when John sees me, he sees me as his father who abused him. And now I can be effective in ministering to John because I actually know what God’s thinking.”

Vallotton says we need not only to allow God to renew our minds (Rom. 12:1-2) but to learn to access God’s thoughts through the power of the Spirit: “God can airdrop His thoughts to me, so to speak.”
