Back to Basics: Daniel Kolenda and the Simple Love of God at Asbury

Pilgrims from all across the country are still making their way to the campus of Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, to see for themselves this move of God taking place in Hughes Auditorium.

The desire in the hearts of so many Christians to see true revival break out in a country that desperately needs the outpouring of the Holy Spirit has seen travelers reach the point of exhaustion just to get a glimpse of what is taking place at Asbury.

This led evangelist Daniel Kolenda, President and CEO of Christ for All Nations and lead pastor of Nations Church, to drive almost 13 hours from Florida to Kentucky to see for himself what exactly the Lord is doing there.

“When I first arrived, it was three o’clock in the morning and rather than going to the hotel I thought, ‘let me go to the actual service and see what’s happening,'” Kolenda said in an exclusive interview with Charisma News.

“Because they said it was going 24/7. If you told me something’s going on 24/7, I’m going to show up at 3 a.m. just to see if it’s true. Sure enough, there were people in the building, worshipping and praying. It wasn’t packed out or it was special.

“Very simple worship, just a piano player and acoustic guitar player and people loving Jesus,” he recalled.

When Kolenda went back that afternoon more people were showing up, and by that evening the place was filled and overflow buildings were being used.

But Kolenda noticed the atmosphere had not changed. This was not a “fire falling down from heaven” sort of experience happening. It was gentle, like the river of life that flows from the throne of God. There was still simplicity in the worship, prayer and confessions of sin that were taking place in the auditorium.

“What had been going on at three o’clock in the morning was still happening, very simple. Worship, just people lingering in the presence of God. Singing worship songs, nothing fancy. No rock bands, no lasers and smoke, not some big production. It was literally just students gathering together in a very simple way worshipping the Lord,” Kolenda explained.

That amazing movement is also bringing down the snares of religiosity that are driving critics of what is happening as Asbury. Some are denying this move of God saying it has to do “this, this and this” but God does not work like that. Humans cannot put the Holy Spirit in a box and say “He will only move if certain events occur and it manifests in a specific way.”

God is done with the Pharisees and is pouring out His Spirit how He sees fit.

When God moved in revivals such as Brownsville and the Toronto Blessing, He did so in the way He wanted to. There was established leadership in the form of Steve Hill and many, many others who God established at their particular movements.

Just because God is moving in a different way does not invalidate the revival that is taking place, it is simply unique for the time and place that God is moving. He knows better than any person criticizing the movement what the people experiencing His presence need in their hearts.

“You know, Brownsville was very different,” Kolenda continued.

“These powerful services [were] very different from what we’re talking about in Asbury. There is preaching, but it’s almost kind of like what had already been scheduled before [chapel services]. It’s just worship. It’s completely student led. It’s very unplugged and simple, and one of the things that’s just they’re singing, you just hear the voices. There’s no drummers, there’s no bass players, it’s about as simple as it can get without being acapella.”

This Spirit of God that brings rest and healing is justified throughout so much of the Bible, (Exod. 33:14; Matt. 11:28; Jer. 31:25). What better time than after the stress, anxiety, fear and depression than the pandemic and lockdowns brought to the people of the world? In a time when witchcraft and the occult are becoming social norms and people are spiritually tormented by emboldened spirits, the calming and healing presence of God is badly needed.

Now, rumors are spreading that the gentle fire at Asbury is spreading to other college campuses in America. As Christians should, test these movements to see if they are indeed moves of God as Asbury has proven. Do so not with a cynical heart, but one of expectation of the Lord’s goodness and repentance of sin. With contrite hearts turning back toward the Lord, a whole generation who came of age locked down can be set free by the healing love of Jesus Christ.

On the Frontlines: How the Dream Center Is Winning the Spiritual Battle for L.A.

As spiritual warfare is taking place across the globe, there are epicenters of activity that manifest the physical realities. One such place is the “City of Angels,” Los Angeles, California.

For years there have been attempts by Satan to gain complete control over the city, and the state it’s located in, and remove God from within its borders.

Standing against the forces of darkness and harmful manifestations of poor public policy such as homelessness, addiction, poverty and sex trafficking, the Dream Center led by Pastors Matthew and Caroline Barnett has been the light on a hill in L.A. since 1994.

Dream Center 1

In response to the recent pandemic and lockdowns that ensued, ministries like the Dream Center were put into emergency mode, and are still working to find what their new normal looks like post-lockdowns.

“I think the days are done of the former Dream Center,” Pastor Matthew shared with Charisma News in an exclusive interview. “We’ve been in emergency mode for three years, where every day feels like an emergency.

“I just walked up to my people [are] lined up everywhere, just trying to get into the rehab program. And that happens now before the office doors are even open. People are lined up down the street, strung out on we’re never going to be the same again.”

With recent legislative decisions from the state government in California, many crimes are no longer enforced or have reduced punishments. This lack of enforcement has led to a boom of prostitution, homelessness and addiction within L.A.

“[The lack of enforcement] definitely manifests itself in the obvious: more crimes,” Barnett lamented. “There’s that feeling in the mindset that people really can’t be delivered.

“But I think the greatest danger of all is mindset of, ‘We’ve just kind of given up, given up believing people can come off of drugs, that we can enforce the law’…lawlessness rules the day,” he continued. “That’s my major concern more than ‘s just kind of a city really gone wild with a lack of faith and belief that it can become more post lockdown.”

Pastor Matthew shines light on the oppressive spirit that is taking hold of people’s hearts all around the world. There is no passion within them, and they are accepting much less than what they are capable of. This spirit fills them with fear, doubt, depression, anxiety and so much more, but the best antidote for it is the love of Christ manifesting in their hearts and igniting a passion to follow Him for the rest of their days.

Even while local and state governments attempt to limit what churches can or can’t do, to the extreme point of regulating giving away food on the street, Barnett continues the successful blueprint of giving practical aid to those in need, but forming lasting relationships with the community first and foremost.

PM 1

“If there’s ever an urgency to build relationships with people, to be in their life over and over again [it’s now]. That’s the only way people will really make long-lasting change, otherwise they’re just going to keep doing what they’re doing,” Barnett explained.

“Maybe it’s in the four walls of a house, and it’s off the street. Typically, surprisingly, a lot of people that are in the housing first, they end up living on the streets, despite the fact they have a little unit or something you build for them. It’s a mindset. It’s really a spiritual thing that has to be broken,” he continued.

This is the crux of the matter that government intervention simply cannot fix. The spiritual hold that principalities have over peoples’ lives can’t be fixed by throwing government programs and money at the problem.

In the wake of the lockdowns, Pastor Barnett revealed new problems that the Dream Center is encountering within their community, and sadly, communities all across the country.

“The issue of teenagers is out of control,” Barnett shared. “A lot of these kids, they were locked down in projects, and exposed to a lot. We’re finding a lot of physical abuse or sexual abuse, a lot of horrible things that happened to them during that era.

“And a lot of them learned to go online and discover how to find drugs, a lot of them join ‘s got to happen.”

Crises like these, and so many more, are still just the tip of the iceberg with what the citizens of cities like L.A. all over the world are experiencing. Thankfully, there are outreaches and ministries like the Dream Center who are answering the Great Commission that Jesus gave to His followers and are making a tremendous impact on the daily lives of the people around them. Both here on earth and in heaven.

Megachurch Pastor Mike Glenn Sets Example for All Christians by Stepping Down

Read time: 3 minutes 9 seconds

After more than three decades in service to Brentwood Baptist Church, Pastor Mike Glenn has come to the conclusion that God has something more for him and his family.

In a statement released on the church’s website, Glenn explains his reasons for leaving the congregation he has pastored of since 1991.

“Knowing that this day would come doesn’t make it any easier now that it has arrived,” Glenn wrote. “Today, I want to announce to you that 2023 will be my last year as the senior pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church. Thirty-two years—by any standard—is an amazing run, and I’m grateful for every minute. But the time has come for someone else to lead BBC into the future that I’m convinced God has for our church.”

Having been a key figure in growing Brentwood Baptist into a megachurch of 11,000 with eight campuses in total, Glenn could easily have lived out his days as pastor in relative comfort and ease. But that is often not the path God has for His children.

It was obedience to the Lord’s calling and time spent in prayer that has seen him step down and take up a new mantle.

In a time when the church has witnessed many pastors vacate their positions due to a stumbling or controversy affecting their ministry, it is encouraging to see one leave a place of familiarity and comfort to embark on another journey God has for them.

“First, I want you to understand that this is my decision and my decision alone. No one, either in the congregation or among our leadership, has suggested or exerted any force to make me step down. This decision comes after months of prayer and a deep love for you. No one loves this church more than I do,” the statement continued.

Glenn is looking forward to beginning a new call to church planting in the middle Tennessee area starting in 2024 after he finishes his final year of pastoring Brentwood Baptist.

“I need to spend more time working with pastors, church planters and leaders in Middle Tennessee,” he wrote. “I want to work with churches to plant new churches and re-purpose churches in changing communities. The most fun I have right now is working with our campus pastors. I want to do more of this.”

Glenn and the trustees of Brentwood Baptist have set a Christian example of transition that many churches over the decades have failed in. By staying in open and truthful communication with one another and ensuring this move is what God wants first and foremost, they have coordinated a seamless and uplifting transition that will see both sides move on to the new season God has for them.

“We have had the special opportunity to come alongside Mike as he has sought God’s guidance in understanding what’s next. Through prayer, discussion and unity of spirit, we share in Mike’s excitement and confidence about what God has in store for him and our church,” the board wrote in their own statement.

“We are grateful that Mike will take on a new role centered around guiding and developing the Engage Church Network. He is a valuable resource for our church and will continue to offer his wisdom, experience and vision. One thing has been clear in our work surrounding this transition, Mike loves you and our church, and there is much work God is calling us to do.”

In a time when division and secrets abound in society, the unity and love that is being displayed by the leadership of Brentwood Baptist Church should stand apart as an example of godly transition that all believers should strive to attain. {eoa}

Tammy Hotsenpiller Discusses the Spiritual Power in Fasting for Breakthrough

Read time: 2 minutes 44 seconds

With the New Year underway and resolutions coming and going, many people are still left wondering what they have to do to get their breakthrough in life.

Doubt can flood the mind with questions of “What have I done wrong?”, “Did I miss the Lord?”, or “How much longer will this season last?”

Pastor Tammy Hotsenpiller sat down with Charisma News to discuss the power fasting has to achieve that breakthrough that many are looking to God for in their lives.

“[It’s] a topic that I believe is one that the church has not activated. It’s a topic of power. It’s a topic of promise,” Tammy explains.

“It seems like every fast I do, I go deeper with God, that He truly gives me more insight and wisdom and revelation about the topic of fasting.”

What could be better for Christians going through a period of spiritual wilderness than gaining wisdom, revelation and going deeper in their relationship with the Lord?

And it’s not just learning more about fasting, as is the case with Tammy, that occurs during one’s fast. It opens up the floodgates for spiritual warfare to take place in a person’s life.

When encountering spiritual strongholds in her life in response to a dream the Lord gave to her at the height of the pandemic, Tammy was given a charge from God that would overcome the fear and confusion enveloping the world.

“I felt in my spirit, Him saying to me, ‘Fast with God, fast with God.’ And I’d use fasting [in my] life when I needed a breakthrough,” Tammy recounts. “When I was carrying a heavy burden, or I just needed God to do something. There are some things in my life, that I have to pray and fast [for].”

By definition, Christians are followers of Christ, and Jesus fasted. A lot.

When Jesus needed the filling of the Holy Spirit because His flesh was weary, He first turned and rested in the Father. This included using times of fasting to empower Himself to resist the temptations of the devil, who even confronted Him during a fast, to knowing the spiritual power that is derived from it.

Tammy highlights and reminds fellow Christians that there are examples of figures throughout the Bible who fasted when they needed a breakthrough from God.

“Whether it be David or Nehemiah or Esther. It doesn’t matter,” Tammy says. “The disciples, the apostles, Jesus, Moses, Elijah, Elisha, all of these fasts in the Bible, why were they fasting? Because they needed an answer. They needed a breakthrough.”

No one is saying this is an easy feat for believers, with the abundance of food available in many parts of the world, constant advertising for food on every platform and the sad reality that not as many churches preach on the spiritual benefits and necessities that come with fasting. Exhorting Christians to believe that God is still the God of miracles, Tammy explains that it takes an act of faith and trust to see those miracles manifest in their lives today. {eoa}

New ‘Left Behind’ Film Addresses Life After the Rapture

Actor Kevin Sorbo is preparing for a new theatrical adventure, as he takes on the iconic role of Rayford Steele in the new movie “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist.”

The film, which tells the story of what life might look like after the biblical rapture, comes after Nicolas Cage played the role of Steele in 2014’s “Left Behind.”

Sorbo, who also serves as director of the new film, told CBN’s “Faith vs. Culture” he’s “excited” about the opportunity to tackle the beloved book and movie series. The film, which reboots intrigue in the series, comes as interest in eschatology reaches a fever pitch.

The actor pointed to current events when asked why he believes end times themes pique so much interest, highlighting growing “hate and divisiveness” and other cultural chaos.

Apostolic Voices Share Dynamic Lessons from Demon Slayer Podcast

Read time: 3 minutes 27 seconds

*Note: This is the second piece of a two-part series. To view the first piece, click here.

The Demon Slayer podcast kicked off the year with a bang in the spiritual realm!

Teaming up were the apostolic voices of Alexander Pagani, Isaiah Saldivar, Mike Signorelli, Daniel Adams and Greg Locke.

The slayers broke down their discussion into three distinct topics for the edification and uplifting of their audience, and got vulnerable in the process.

Those topics discussed are the lessons that they as leaders in the Christian church learned in 2022, what they feel the Lord has for 2023 and the amazing deliverance revival that is taking place right now!

In the first article, Alexander Pagani, Isaiah Saldivar and Mike Signorelli shared what they had learned and how they had grown in 2022 as leaders, the issues they faced and how they are motivated now more than ever to tackle the New Year with a vengeance.

Now, Pastor Greg Locke and Daniel Adams share their lessons learned and how God is continuing to sharpen their skills to take the fight to the enemy.

“I’m almost 47, right,” Pastor Locke shared. “And this has been a year that I have grown and matured more in the Lord than [in] 30 years of my salvation.

“Here’s what people need to understand… I was probably the most politically involved pastor in America. …God used the controversy of politics for years… God used deliverance ministry to temper me and to humble me in a lot of ways.”

Opening up about his years in the political theater, Locke shared that political goals do not drive him anymore and that it is now God’s spiritual goals that affect all arenas in the earth, including politics.

“I’ve lost the flavor of politics for the nation, and gained the flavor of the kingdom of God. Deliverance did that to me,” Locke revealed.

Saying he still loves and stands for the flag, Locke identified the primary focus for Christians who want to impact America, and that is through the kingdom of God: “Deliverance has so changed me over the course of the last year,” Locke declared. “At the end of the day… deliverance ministry has changed my focus and my fight. And so, I’m much more careful about what I get involved in now, because I want to be about the kingdom.”

Sharing with the group, Locke explained an area that he believes America threatened by more than any political system.

“America is more in trouble with witchcraft than it is with communism,” Locke says.” If we don’t deal with witchcraft, we’re in a mess. America is gonna fall because of witchcraft not communism.”

Rounding out the podcast’s lessons of 2022, and not to be passed over, the venerable Daniel Adams brought the fire as he shared what the Lord had taught him over the past year.

“2022 was humbling for me… the Lord showed me that the revival that is on the earth is not a one-person gig,” Adams said. “He showed me it does not belong to one church; it does not belong to one individual.”

Adams laid it out for people that we are not the special ones, it is God who is the special One and that Christians need unity within the body to spread and lift up the kingdom of heaven.

“I love the fact that God has shown me we have a unified revival that is global, and there is people all over the place… you are not alone,” Adams declared. “God’s glory is covering the earth, and He’s using deliverance to wake that up.”

Adams’ declarations of unity mirror that of the church after Jesus ascended following His Resurrection. The apostles were of one accord as the Holy Spirit fell upon them, filling them with the promise Jesus left them with.

Now, the church needs this same sense of unity more than ever. As division plagues every aspect of society, the cure lies within the love and power of Jesus.

Dutch Sheets Leads Prayer Against Baal’s Influence in America: ‘We Will Hit the Mark’

Read time: 2 minutes 13 seconds

When one knows what to look for, it becomes clear the influence of Baal is rooted deep within America.

The society that was founded on Judeo-Christian values is following the path of the ancient Israelites in turning away from God and replacing Him with a pagan influence.

As Christian leaders and believers across the world are taking time to lean into the Lord and seek Him for the upcoming New Year, Dutch Sheets has taken to praying against the influence of Baal in America and doing so in prayer and partaking communion.

Sheets encourages believers not just to send up wimpy, Spirit-deficient prayers against the enemy. But to empower one’s prayers with the Spirit and engage the enemy that is deceiving America and take communion together and unleash the Lord’s might and power across America.

All one must do to see the influence of Baal within American culture is turn on the news, as one-sided as it is.

The weeping prophet Jeremiah called out the Israelite culture of the time. In Jeremiah 7:8-10 he writes for the Lord saying, “Indeed, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Shall you steal, murder and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered,’ so that you may do all these abominations?”

How familiar is the America of today to that which the Lord calls out?

In Sheets’ recent “Give Him 15” prayer, written by Greg Hood after he was given a dream instructing him to “hit the mark,” Sheets prayed that as America moves forward into the new year, Christians will, “stand strong amid the trials and the tribulations that face us on this journey.”

When Christian leaders across the country such as Dutch Sheets and Rabbi Jonathan Cahn call for the prayers of believers to cover the leadership of America and its culture, the faithful need to listen.

There is power released in prayer, and America is in such a dire state spiritually, the only thing that can bring her back from the brink of collapse is the power and blessing of God.

Without these prayers America will fall. She will continue her descent into the occult and corrupting practices that separate the citizenry from God.

It is time for Americans across the country to heed the call of leadership that the Lord has emplaced and engage in the spiritual warfare that will unleash a torrential outpouring of glory from heaven across the nation. {eoa}

Jonathan Cahn’s 2021 Prophetic Warning to Joe Biden Has Come Full Circle

Read time: 3 minutes 25 seconds

Throughout the centuries, Christian leaders have stood up and spoken out against apostasy within the church. It has happened time and again, often leading to a splintering of the church, continuing on its path towards destruction or repentance.

But what happens when a nation become an apostate?

When Jonathan Cahn first warned President Joe Biden that his plans to enact legislation that supported abortion, same-sex marriage and the transgender movement would bring about more judgement on America, there was still hope that the President would not go down that dark path.

“We stand in a most critical moment,” Cahn explained. “Mr. President, President Biden, you have called for unity and peace, but how can a nation have unity and peace when it wars against the very foundation on which it stands. How can a nation have unity and peace when it has turned against the God who has brought it into existence, and it has turned.”

Rabbi Cahn calls to light the sins that America has committed that grieve the heart of God and go against His very nature. Killing innocent children in the womb by the millions, redefining the genders that God created in His image and committing acts of lawlessness and sexual immorality on a scale that would leave ancient Rome shocked, all opened up the door for harsh judgement against America.

Now, in a disappointment to believers across the world, President Joe Biden not only chose what side he is on, but celebrated legislating sin into America.

On Dec. 13, 2022, President Biden invited activists and drag queens from across the country to celebrate the forced compulsion of states to recognize same-sex marriage.

To commemorate the event, The White House was lit up in a rainbow for the world to see.

In another prophetic warning, Rabbi Cahn called out the glaring threat this represents to religious freedom, the path that this takes America further down and the President’s own claims about being a Christian man.

“What you did Mr. President, on the White House lawn when you signed that act… the Respect for Marriage Act, a law that was the very opposite of its name,” Cahn said. “The disrespecting and obliteration of what marriage has always been since the beginning of human history. You did something that no president had ever done: you enshrined the alteration of marriage into federal law.”

For years, President Biden had stood on the moral grounds of marriage being between a man and a woman. So did other political leaders such as Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Yet the erosion of social and cultural morality opened the floodgates for the corrupting of God’s creation.

Now, the country founded on godly principles and morality, although imperfect, has turned from the Lord God in heaven.

Rabbi Cahn addresses this falling away the Lord in his recent warning to the President.

“The Bible says that in the last days there will be a great apostasy, a great falling away from faith, and thus we will see a Christian-based civilization and nations falling into apostasy,” Cahn warned. “And thus, will embody that apostasy. Have you not become the embodiment of that apostasy? We are now there.

“And you, Mr. President, are there as well. In a state of apostasy and for one who calls oneself a Christian, it is the most dangerous state to be in. Because eternity is very near. It is for all of us, just one heartbeat away.”

As his message to the President drew to a close, Rabbi Cahn explained the one way for the President, America and her citizens to escape from this path of destruction: repentance.

“The only hope America has, and each of us have, it so t urn to repent and to come under His mercy and into those arms,” Cahn warned. “Mr. President, the hour is late and eternity is soon coming. Repent and turn to God for the only hope America has is revival. And the only hope you have, and all of us have, is salvation.” {eoa}

Worship Song in Hebrew, Arabic, English Shows ‘Only Jesus can Bring Peace Between Jews and Arabs’

Read time: 2 minutes 25 seconds

A Messianic Jewish organization in Israel is releasing covers of worship songs sung in Hebrew, Arabic and English in order to show that “true peace in the Middle East can only happen through the Prince of Peace.”

“As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the worship song was in Hebrew, Arabic and English,” One for Israel President Erez Soref says at the end of one song. “That is because we at One for Israel believe that true peace in the Middle East can only happen through the Prince of Peace, Yesha the Messiah.”

“May we please ask you to take a few seconds right now and pray for Jews and Arabs to come to know Yeshua—the only way to peace,” Soref concludes.

The version of “Waymaker”—featuring local Israeli worship leaders and performers Rebekah Wagner, Joshua Aaron, Nizar Francis and Shilo Ben Hod—is one of many One for Israel videos featuring songs sung by native Hebrew, Arabic and English speakers together. This video, uploaded five months ago, has reached nearly 2 million views by the date of this article.

One for Israel also released a Christmas song, “Mary did you know?” in Hebrew, Arabic an English earlier this month. It has already garnered 589,000 views.

The organization says on its YouTube channel: “We produced a series of music videos to celebrate the birth of our Messiah, Yeshua. No matter when you celebrate, our passion is to point people to the narrative of salvation and find unity in worshiping our King Messiah.”

At the end of the song, which features a reenactment in Nazareth of Mary and Joseph preparing for their journey to Bethlehem, Soref prays that viewers “will set your eyes to heaven to behold the Messiah’s beauty and majesty.”

“God’s redemption is near. Please pray with us that God’s light will shine in Israel as the Gospel returns to our people once again,” Soref says.

One for Israel, established in 1990 as a Bible college, is an evangelistic outreach in the Holy Land focusing on bringing Jews and Arabs in the land to salvation. It is comprised of native-born Israelis.

Another portion of the ministry is restoration of Israel and the unity between Jewish and Arab believers in Jesus.

“We are seeing not only the physical restoration of Israel after a 2,000-year exile, but a spiritual revolution is taking place right in front of our eyes,” the One for Israel website says. “Jewish people are returning to their God and accepting the Messiah in numbers not seen since the early church! Not only that, but many Arab people are coming to the Lord and many Arab believers are finding a deep unity with their Jewish brothers and sisters.” {eoa}
