Prophetic Vision: Worship God in the Hallway

Recently I had a profound prophetic vision in which the Holy Spirit spoke to me, Worship God while waiting in the hallway!” Before I give you more details about this vision, allow me to give a little background.

Have you ever wondered where in the Bible the word “worship” is first mentioned? We probably think it comes from the life of King David or some other skilled “worshipper.” The first time something is mentioned in Scripture is extremely important. This is called the “law of first mention.” In this case, surprisingly, worship has nothing to do with instruments, vocal projection, a choir or any such thing.

It’s found in Genesis 22:5 (NKJV), set in the lives of Abraham and Isaac. “And Abraham said to his young men, ‘Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.'” Abraham, by the word of the Lord, was going to offer up his son of faith, Isaac, as a burnt offering on Mount Moriah. What a profound, complex and yet straightforward statement!

Genesis 22:8a continues, “And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.'” This is an extraordinary prophetic narrative that unfolds in its typology. Of course, Jesus is our sacrificial Lamb, and His life laid down for us is the ultimate act of worship as the Son of God who became the Son of Man. Stunning indeed.

So, what does worship mean if it is not a group of instruments playing harmoniously together? Worship, simply put, is to bow down in your heart before God. Worship in its purest form is not as much about the externals; it is about the internal posture of the heart. Worship is an act of surrender.

A Vision to Remember

Recently while doing a Q&A session for one of my online classes, I went into a short vision. I saw myself standing at the end of a hallway with multiple doors in front of me. It appeared to be a place of transition, and the question permeated the encounter, Which door do I go through? What am I supposed to do next? Do I knock on the doors, or do I wait for one to sovereignly open?”

I did not know if this was a hospital corridor or an office complex, but one thing was certain—it was a hallway of transition. Yet what was expected of me? What was to be my response? Then, the voice of the Holy Spirit came to me saying, “Worship God while waiting in the hallway.”

The proper response became ever so clear to me, in an instant. We each face times of uncertainty and enter the hallways of the unknown. What are we to do? If there were an 11th commandment, I think it might be, “Thou shalt not sweat it!” An important key as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is this: “Worship God while waiting in the hallway.”

Worship Precedes Breakthrough

Let’s surrender all to Jesus. Let’s bow down in our heart before the Lord our maker. Let’s be like Abraham and make a declaration, “I will arise and worship the Lord!” Let’s enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.

May we remember that worship and praise always precede every breakthrough. Know this: Your sacrifice matters, and your waiting mixed with worship will pay off! I know. Don’t quit. Worship God while waiting in the hallway. {eoa}

Prophet: Turn the Tables on the Enemy With This Bold Spiritual Action

A battle is being waged in society. It is one that affects every life, whether we are aware of it or not. It is a battle of fear versus faith.

Who controls the new cycle? There is a vomiting forth of news based on distorted information that is forced upon us on a daily basis. Problem is, this has been happening for more than a generation and now we are eating its fruit. Long ago, a Trojan horse was allowed in our churches, governments, educational institutions, news agencies, economic systems and so much more.

But it’s not too late. A clarion call is arising to turn the enemy away at the gates of our cities! A call to mount the wall of intercession is being released like never before. A global prayer storm is mounting where faith matched by our works displaces darkness.

The kingdom of God is speech-activated. As His Word is stored up in our hearts, we have an abundance of truth to proclaim with our mouths. Even in the face of fear, we can speak from the place of faith. We can proclaim, “Freedom!” in places where few even know the meaning of the word anymore. We can proclaim God’s extravagant mercy from the rooftops, declaring His Lordship over our cities and their people. According to Matthew 10:27 (NLT), Jesus told His disciples, “What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear!”

The Power of Proclamation

The voice of the Holy Spirit came to me saying, “Proclamation is the power switch that must be flipped in order to turn a room from darkness into light.” Proclamation carries power—even when the hearers are hostile. Jesus proclaimed the truth of redemption every time He declared, ascribed and pronounced light to both the Jews and the Gentiles. Paul proclaimed the truth of the gospel of the kingdom when he was arrested and taken before King Agrippa. You can release the power of proclamation as well.

The proclamations of God’s victory are powerful, and that is why we find them throughout the Scriptures. Just like those who penned such proclamations, we must align our hearts with God’s heart of victory, expressing our trust in His fatherly oversight, even when the way ahead looks dark and foreboding. But when we are faced with the fiery darts of fear, we confront the assault of the enemy with the shield of faith, our measure of faith, a heart filled with the word of faith and, then out of the abundance of our hearts, our mouths proclaim words of faith.

There are various expressions that the power of proclamation may take.

– Proclamations of Victory

– Proclamations of Praise

– Proclamations of Blessing

– Proclamations of the Work of the Cross

– Proclamations of Prophetic Promises

From a position of victory, we release prayers of victory. We proclaim the all-sufficiency of our God and we draw heaven’s blessing down to earth, saying, “Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (See Matthew 6:10.) We pray expecting God and His angels to break up the darkness with the brilliance of His glory. This is one of the ways that we wage war and win in the battle of fear versus faith.

Fear and Faith Both Speak

The Holy Spirit speaks and so do demonic spirits. Culture speaks and even the atmosphere surrounding us vies for our very attention. We are bombarded by an array of thoughts from a variety of opinions, philosophies and angels on an ongoing basis. We must be on the alert and have our helmet of hope of salvation firmly in place.

Why? Remember, we are in a battle of fear versus faith. Fear attempts to get us to back down by whispering questions, “What if?” But faith motivates and inspires us by persistently nudging us with imprints of encouragement such as, “Even if!” Fear paralyzes a person and faith propels a believer forward. Fear makes molehills into mountains. Faith turns mountains into speed-bumps. It’s all about altitude. Your altitude will determine your perspective.

So, let’s go on a global prayer storm journey together, where we turn the tables on the devil by displacing the darkness of fear through the power faith-filled proclamations. Amen and Amen. {eoa}

Prophetic Dream: God’s Lightning Bolts of Glory

I awoke suddenly out of a vibrant prophetic dream that was filled with lightning. (Although this happened years ago, I remember it as if it were yesterday.) One lightning bolt after another exploded before my eyes—continual, splintering, powerful lightning bolts from heaven to earth.

No people. No words. Just incessant light, action, sound.

When I woke up from this intense, Holy-Spirit-saturated dream, the whole room still crackled with God’s electric presence. I lingered in that presence for 20 minutes or so before it dissipated.

As I lay there musing, What in the world was that about? I saw “Job 36:32” spelled out in large, illuminated letters that were two or three feet tall.

I turned on the light and found Job 36:32 in my Bible. I remember thinking dubiously that I rarely seemed to get anything out of the book of Job, but then I read this: “He covers His hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark” (Job 36:32, NASB).

Lightning-fast, I made the connection. Lightning was “striking the mark,” just as our God-directed intercessory prayers do.

And everything fit together even better when I considered the huge role that such prayer had been playing in my life at that time. For starters, the dream occurred while I was staying in a suburb of Toronto on the last night of a church conference called “Fire on the Altar,” at which I was teaching about intercessory prayer.

Prior to that, God had put me through 90 days of prayerful seclusion during which I had prayed and or sung in the gift of tongues for six to 12 hours a day. I had been sequestered in my home for three months straight, not doing any public ministry but rather focusing on praying and singing in the Spirit. By the end of that time, I had grown so accustomed to praying in the secret place that I did not know whether I wanted to come out and engage in typical ministry again.

Global Blessing of God’s Presence

Another connection did not become clear until a few weeks later, when what is now known as the Toronto Blessing began. The first evidence of that special outpouring of the Holy Spirit occurred at the end of the very next month following my dream. I am convinced that what happened in Toronto could not have happened without the persistent, intercessory prayers of many, many people around the world, including mine.

Collectively, I believe our intercession had released the flashing forth of God’s “glorious lightning” and directed it to hit specific targets of need. It really happened just as the verse from Job says: “He covers His hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.”

The verse that follows is also interesting. It responds to what has happened in verse 32: “Its noise declares His presence” (v. 33, NASB). Prayer creates lightning strikes from heaven—and thunder is the corresponding “sound” of that lightning. Prayer creates a thundering noise that declares God’s presence. Thus, prayer produces a sound—more than that, a combination of sounds.

A Place of Meeting

People of prayer often work behind the scenes. While others in ministry work in plain view, they work in the “back room,” in secret.

Their prayerful intercession creates a place of meeting between God and men and women. During intercession, God lights upon the person praying and moves them from the natural to the supernatural.

Empowered by God, the intercessor can cut down enemy forces and pick out targets for God’s lightning bolts of glory. Prayers that “strike the mark” are prayers authorized by the Holy Spirit and endowed with divine power to accomplish His will on earth as they are in heaven.

In other words, intercession is our invitation to call forth the glory that is on God’s hands in heaven and invite it to invade our space on earth.

It is a high privilege to pray prayers that strike the mark. You and I have the great honor of being called to “paint targets” on our cities, on our churches and ministries, on our family members, on the modern-day Sauls in our lives (our persecutors) and even on ourselves. In prayer, we may target the United States government (or your nation), the state of Tennessee (or your state), the city of Los Angeles (or your city), particular missionary and relief organizations, people we hear about in the news, people in authority and much more.

Spirit-Led and Spirit-Empowered Prayer

I keep using the word target, both as a noun and as a verb, because it is part of the definition of the Hebrew root word paga, which English-speakers often translate as “intercede.”

Paga generally indicates “to meet,” but its shades of meaning include “to light upon by chance,” “to fall upon,” “to attack,” “to strike down” and “to cut down”—as well as “to strike the mark.” The word paga does not relate only to prayer, but the various nuances of its meaning can help us understand the dimensions of intercessory prayer.

The meaning of paga is very similar to the English word intercede, which comes from the Latin and means “to go between” (inter: between; cedere: to go), to act between parties with a view to reconciling those who differ or contend, to plead in favor of another, to interpose, to get involved in solving a problem, to step into the gap when needed, to meet with or to mediate.

In a real way, you could call intercession “Spirit-Led and Spirit-Empowered Prayer,” because it brings together extreme needs with the extraordinary presence and power of God—bridging those two extremes. By inserting ourselves into the gap between God and a need, we help to bring about a work of grace, calling upon the Holy Spirit, our Helper, who is standing by ready to move us from finite ability to infinite ability, enabling us to take hold of situations and help accomplish the will of God.

There is an aspect of this form of intercession into which we, as the body of Christ, can enter. Paul writes about filling up in his flesh what is still lacking regarding Christ’s afflictions “for the sake of His body, which is the church” (Col. 1:24.)

According to these ways of understanding paga, or intercession, praying believers present targets so that the Holy Spirit can take a measure of heaven’s glory and send it forth to strike the mark. What an invitation to pray prayers that strike the mark!

You Are Qualified

You are invited to draw God’s attention to specific places where He can intervene. On the cross, Jesus already accomplished the ultimate answer to all our prayers, but God awaits our specific invitation to come into each scene.

You may say, “I am not qualified for this. I am not an apostle … I am not a prophet … I don’t think I’m even very sharp.” But God says, “You are qualified.” If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, He has given you both authority and power over the power of the enemy. He is waiting for you to follow Him as He uses your Spirit-breathed prayers to gain victory over the foe and bring blessings to His people!

Get ready! I declare prophetically that the greatest global prayer storm is just about to crest and crash in upon the shores of the body of Christ. It is time to volunteer freely all over again! Remember, every prayer counts and every sacrifice matters! And you get to be a part of releasing the move of God’s lighting bolts of glory! {eoa}

Warning Dream: Do Not Be Ignorant of the Devil’s Schemes

Recently, I was given a stark dream in which I was given instruction in the wisdom ways of God for the purposes of prayer and to forewarn us so we do not get caught up in the enemy’s schemes.

Paul, the apostle, stated that we are not to be ignorant of the devil’s schemes. In my dream filled with dark clouds and shifty rolling atmospheres, I heard the penetrating voice of the Holy Spirit say, “Be careful in the coming months. There is a War of Words being waged!”

I woke up out of this encounter, knowing that this was a personal word for my own life and that I was to put a “watch over my own speech.” Yet, I also knew this word had ramifications for the body of Christ, and also that this battle would be fought on a national and international scene. We have entered into “A War of Words.”

Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV) states, And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” The context of this verse is about our speech. In verse 29, it states, “Let no corrupt communications proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

Every day, each of us is engaged in a battle of words, the words of our mouth. There is the power of life and death in our speech. The choice is ours to make!

Let us choose life and yield our tongues unto the Lord!

Let us not succumb to the power of darkness but let us align ourselves with the kingdom of God and His ways.

The devil is like a roaring lion, seeking someone whom he may devour (see 1 Peter 5:8). But it does not need to be you, and you do not need to be the devil’s next meal.

Rather, let us arise and not return insult for insult but sow kindness instead (see Romans 12:21). After all, God’s ways are higher (see Isaiah 55:8-9) than ours. And we are called to live and act in a higher realm — in the kingdom dimension — where the Sermon on the Mount counts, and where every act of kindness and every word of gentleness turns away wrath.

Remember, Isaiah 54:17 says, “‘No weapon against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me!’ says the Lord.”

Let’s fight the war of words fully submitted to the Holy Spirit in love, wisdom and the fruit of the Spirit, speaking life wherever we go. {eoa}

Prophet: Allow the Holy Spirit to Do a House Inspection in Your Soul

The way of the Cross leads home and through Jesus, we each have a personal place of belonging. Our identity is not found in our giftedness but by being rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus. We need to keep the main and plain truths of the gospel central in each of our lives.

As sensitive, oriented believers, each of us needs to be a bit more like a rhinoceros—thick-skinned but with a big heart. For too long, the prophetic and prayer community has tended to be a bit too thin-skinned while carrying our big, compassionate hearts. I have learned through the peaks and the valleys of life and ministry that prophetic people just might overreact and go into isolationism, elitism or some other “ism” out of the sense of being rejected, due to the packaging of the gifting they carry. I have also found that my flow of revelation will slow to a trickle if I do not get back up when I have been knocked down.

By His Stripes We Are Healed

The truth is that Jesus was punished for our sin that we might be forgiven (see Isa. 53:9-12). He was wounded for our sicknesses that we might be healed. Isaiah 53:5 declares, “By his wounds we are healed.” He became poor for our sakes that we might have His wealth. Our Lord died that we might have His life. In fact, read all of Isaiah 53, as it is the ringing declaration of the divine exchange made on the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We have been accepted, adopted and cared for. God does not only tolerate us but He also fully embraces and loves us (see Eph. 1:5-6; 3:14-15; John 1:12–13). After all, He created us. He always has time for each and every one of us.

Accept the fact that you are fully accepted in Christ. Lay down any bitterness and forgive those who have rejected you. Instead of returning evil for evil or withdrawing to lick your wounds, sow a blessing. Search out Scriptures that reinforce the fact that you are accepted in Christ, loved with an everlasting love that does not depend upon your performance. Let the Spirit of God transform your mind. As a starter, pray read Romans 12.

Keep in mind that part of belonging to Him is to suffer rejection along with Him and that suffering knits us even more closely with Him:

“So, you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering” (Rom. 8:15-17, NLT).

Accept yourself. Recognize that “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Eph. 2:10, NASB). Did you know that it is not humility to criticize yourself? Let’s catch those little foxes that spoil the vine. Negative self-talk helps no one!

We find it in the Bible: “Who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?'” (Rom. 9:20, NIV). So take yourself in hand. Repent and break off any word curses you may have pronounced on yourself. If your difficulties seem to be intractable, consider the possibility of seeking prayer for deliverance; at the least, seek counsel from others concerning this issue.

Secure in Our Father’s Love

We belong to our Master, Jesus, and He suffered utter rejection. We know because He said, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matt. 27:46, NKJV). By comparison, anything we suffer is insignificant. I do not know your journey with every step of its perils and entrapments. I do know the pits and pinnacles of life and ministry and the cost of true discipleship. But Jesus is still the way, the truth and the life, and no one else leads the way to the Father!

As we launch the Global Prayer Storm in its initial phase, one of my primary prayers is that we will allow the Holy Spirit to do a house inspection once again. Let’s make sure our foundation is firm. Let’s pray that we are secure in our Father’s love, and that our identity is found in Christ Jesus and who He is in us. Then we can build a towering ministry that is far reaching for the glory of God with no fear that it will topple or fall.

Why? We are rooted and grounded in the Word of God and in the God of the Word. We are secure in our Father’s love! {eoa}

James Goll: 10 Tips to Remember Your Dreams

You can remember your dreams and receive the revelation God is giving you!

Some people tell me that they do not hear from God in their lives—period. Others say they simply can’t remember their revelatory dream experiences. Still others seem to remember only a fragment or portions of scattered images, which at the time do not seem to make much sense to them.

Let’s set the record straight with five points of truth:

— You were born for an interactive relationship with your heavenly Father.

— Your heart was created with a capacity to hear from God.

— You were designed to be a dreamer of dreams.

— You can receive and retain revelation.

— You are made to be a carrier and a dispenser of the revelation of God.

Everyone Dreams; That Includes You

Sleep specialists tell us that everyone dreams for a period of time while in rapid eye movement sleep. So, in reality, we all dream at some point every night.

The issue is not whether you dream—but rather that you learn some practical tips and how to rest under the anointing of the Holy Spirit in order to recall and remember your dreams.

Scripture speaks of the fleeting nature of dreams:

“He will fly away like a dream and will not be found; yes, he will be chased away as a vision of the night” (Job 20:8).

Daniel 2:1-47 expresses the frustration that Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, experienced as he received a detailed dream but could not recall it! The dream disturbed the king so much that he searched for relief and health! God heard his plea and sent Daniel who, after a season of seeking the face of God, related to the king not only his dream itself but also its interpretation. In reality, of course, it was God who revealed these things to Daniel. Daniel sought God’s face, and God gave him the spirit of understanding. If you seek God’s face the way Daniel did, God will help you interpret your dreams as well.

Just because dreams can be fleeting in nature, does not mean they need to remain that way! We are to receive and retain dream revelation from God. Frankly, more than that, we are to advance and grow from stage to stage and glory to glory in these dimensions as well!

Here are some simple, practical journaling tools to help you in your revelatory journey.

Of course, no commitment to journaling will do any good if you cannot remember your dreams. So, I have also added a few practical tips for retaining dream revelation. These steps will enhance your ability to journal effectively and enable you to remember your dreams longer.

10 Tips to Remember Your Dreams

1. If possible, get rid of your loud alarm clock. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you wake up. Try to establish the habit of getting up at a set time. This requires discipline and will naturally be harder for some than for others.

2. Many dreams come between 4 and 5 o’clock in the morning. Whenever you awaken, learn to linger for a few minutes in a place of rest, if possible.

3. Instead of an alarm, consider waking to a clock radio tuned to soothing music. This is what I did for years. I got rid of the blaring alarm and woke up to classical music, which doesn’t chase away dreams. Classical music actually helps create a soothing atmosphere conducive to dream retention. Worship music has the same effect, particularly the softer, more soaking, reflective styles.

4. Be prepared to record your revelations by observing a few practical tips:

— Keep a note pad and a pen by the bed so you won’t have to get up before you record your dream. A simple spiral notebook works fine.

— This is a personal journal. Grammar, neatness and spelling are not critical issues. Content is crucial.

— Consider using a small tape recorder. Keep it by your bedside so that all you have to do is turn over and whisper into it.

— Later in the day or week, consider word-processing the scribbles you previously captured. Some people transfer their experiences to a more permanent “journal.” I have both a personal devotional journal and a ministry revelatory journal in my man bag at all times.

5. Develop your dream alphabet by keeping track of symbols. Ask, “What does this symbol mean to me?” and “Can I find it in Scripture?”

6. Make note of your feelings/emotions in the dream/revelation. When you summarize your dream, be sure to describe how you felt during the dream, even if you include only a few words.

7. Be still and try to recall one or two of the details, and then your memory will kick in (see Zech. 4:1-2). Find one thread of the dream and then, in prayer, gently pull, and more will appear on your screen.

8. Date all entries. This is important for many reasons, including keeping track of patterns or progressions that may occur in your dream journey.

9. If traveling, record your location at the time of your dream. This can be just as important as the date. The locale may prove to be highly significant to interpreting your dream.

10. Expect God’s love to be affirmed toward you. And then, as you receive it, expect the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be in operation.

Interpreting Your Dreams—Walk with Others

Yes, walk with others. Remember, even God lives in community! So whenever possible, seek training and wise counsel from those more experienced and those gifted as interpreters of dreams. Walk with others. Pray with others. Learn from others.

Years ago, I was in a small group under the direction of John Paul Jackson. We were given assignments of looking up key phrases and symbols in Scripture and reporting back our findings. This was long before any seminars, classes, books or training was being done on this subject. We were experimenting together.

Not everyone will have this capacity developed as well as others. Even in Scripture, Daniel and Joseph are the only ones who are specifically mentioned as having this gift. Just as in the New Testament we have the gift of speaking in tongues, but corresponding to it, we have the gift of interpretation of tongues.

Ask for the dream interpretation directly for yourself. You have not because you ask not (see James 4:2). Just ask! You have the anointing from the Holy Spirit, and He is a great teacher. The author of the revelation is also the chief interpreter of the revelation as well.

And write it down. Be a modern-day scribe, one who receives and retains revelation by the rediscovered art of journaling. That’s the way it works with me and those around me. {eoa}

Courageous and Prophetic Women of Faith, Part 2 (New Testament & Beyond)

Read part 1 of Courageous and Prophetic Women of Faith by clicking the link.

In the New Testament, we find many women who display aspects of every gift of the Spirit, whether or not they were aware of it.

For example, take the Samaritan woman at the well, whose name is lost to history (see John 4:7–29). Jesus singled her out and she is considered by many to be the first true evangelist in the Bible.

When she told the townspeople the Good News about the Christ, many of them believed.

Consider Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist and cousin of Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus.

Both of these devout women were active in prayer, worship and faithful waiting on the Lord for the fulfillment of His prophetic promises. The interchange between these God-fearing women resulted in exuberant praises and prophesying concerning the destiny of Mary’s child, the Messiah Jesus. The magnificent prophetic exchange that unfolded is recorded in Luke 1:39–55.

In addition to these prophetic songs of Elizabeth and Mary in the first chapter of Luke, we also see mention of “a prophetess Anna” in the second chapter:

“And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers” (Luke 2:36–37, NASB1995).

In other words, Anna’s prophetic ministry was expressed through intercession. Somehow she had come to know about all of the prophetic promises concerning the Messiah, promises that had not yet been fulfilled.

She was on the lookout for this promised Messiah, the Deliverer and hope of Israel. Like Simeon a moment before, Anna’s spirit leapt within her when she saw the little bundle in Mary’s arms.

This was the One! She blessed Him, knowing that all of the words of the prophets were coming to pass. I love Anna and I know that women who are prophetic intercessors love her even more.

Other Notable Women Mentioned in the New Testament

We must cast a light on Phillip’s four daughters. Phillip, known to us as “the Evangelist,” had “four virgin daughters who were prophetesses” (Acts 21:9).

Apparently all four of Phillip’s unmarried daughters had been acknowledged by the local body of believers as having prophetic gifts. We do not know any words or actions specifically attributed to them, but surely the term “prophetesses” must have been well-deserved.

Sometimes I think that God plays favorites, and Mary Magdalene and the other Marywere surely among them. Those two women arrived first at the empty tomb, were the first to hear the words, “He is risen,” and the first to announce His resurrection (see Matthew 28:1–10). Their unwavering loyalty and faith put them in the forefront of prophetic fulfillment.

The Holy Spirit also highlights a distinct woman in the marketplace. A prominent lady named Lydia, the well-to-do businesswoman from the city of Thyatira in modern-day Turkey whose conversion outside the Macedonian city of Philippi and subsequent outreach opened the door to the Gospel of the Kingdom throughout Europe (see Acts 16:14–15). She is considered the first convert in Europe, since she lived and worked far to the west and north of the rest of the Middle East and Asia.

Priscilla and Aquila are mentioned in several places in the book of Acts and also in Paul’s letters to the Romans, the Corinthians and to Timothy. Like Paul, they worked as tentmakers but they were also a husband-and-wife team in another way, evidently explaining the gospel message with exceptional clarity, moving from Rome to Corinth to Ephesus and elsewhere as the Spirit of God led them. (See Acts 18:1-3,18-19, 24-26; Romans 16:3-4; 1 Corinthians 16:19; and 2 Timothy 4:19.)

Some commentators note the fact that Priscilla’s name is almost always mentioned first, which was as unusual then as it is now. This may indicate that she was the most engaging teacher of the pair, the one who brought the Word to life as not many other men or women could do.

Phoebe, an early deaconess in the growing church at Cenchrea was well known for her servant’s heart and her works of mercy (see Romans 16:1). Chloe hosted a church in her home (see 1 Corinthians 1:11). It is difficult to tell if she was simply the homeowner-hostess or actually the pastor of the house church.

The listing of the name Junia—or Junias, as some translators prefer—in Romans 16:7 has caused a lot of controversy over the years. Was this person male or female? If female, was she actually considered an apostle, with all the implications raised by such an unusual role, or was she possibly married to Andronicus, the name listed right before hers, and thus serving along-side him as Priscilla and Aquila did together?

My point in cataloging so many of the women in the Bible is not to declare that all of them were prophetic in the narrowest definition of the term but rather to highlight the idea that women have always been gifted to serve God’s people in the same ways as men.

Prominent Women in Church History

Throughout the history of the church, we know of many women of vibrant faith whose gifts and courage made a difference for the kingdom in many nations of the earth.

You may recognize many of these names; they are some of my favorites:

– Vibia Perpetua (A.D. 181–203)

– Joan of Arc (1412–1431)

– Madame Jeanne Guyon (1648–1717)

– Susanna Wesley (1669–1742)

– Catherine Booth (1829–1890)

– Fanny Crosby (1820–1915)

– Maria Woodworth-Etter (1844–1924)

– Aimee Semple McPherson (1890–1944)

– Amy Carmichael (1867–1951)

– Lydia Prince (1890–1975)

– Mother (now Saint) Teresa of Calcutta (1910–1997)

– Basilea Schlink (1904–2001).

If you want examples of prophetic trances (being caught up into a state of ecstasy with prophetic revelation), look no further than the life of St. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582), who revived the Carmelite order of nuns and wrote about her experiences (her books include The Interior Castle, for example) to the lasting benefit of generations of believers. And we can each add others to this list, right?

In modern times, healing evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman (1907–1976) exercised supernatural gifts and words of knowledge, along with gifts of healing and more in her public healing crusades in the United States. And the list goes on and on.

Gwen Shaw (1924–2013) was the founder of End-Time Handmaidens, ministered as a pioneer in China and India, was guided by God’s prophetic light and sustained by His Spirit well into her older age. Another one of the women who has impacted my life in a special way is Elizabeth (Beth) Alves, who recently graduated to her heavenly reward. I have referred to Beth as the “Grandma of the Prayer Shield.”

How can I forget the fiery prophet Jill Austin of Master Potter Ministries? Then there is a woman in her own category, the endearing Michal Ann Goll, my late wife, founder of Compassion Acts and Women on the Frontlines. They both ascended to the Lord within four months of one another. What a lineage and legacy and shadow of Jesus they both cast. Mercy!

Women on the Frontlines Today

Today, preaching the Good News, prophesying and praying as the Spirit directs are many women of great diversity.

Some of these valiant woman include Jane Hamon, daughter-in-law of Bill Hamon, and also Sharon Stone of England, both accurate prophets of Christian International.

I must point out the tenacious Bonnie Chavda, prophetic lioness and wife of Mahesh Chavda. Joan Hunter doesn’t only carry on the mantle of the Happy Hunters; she carries her own healing grace, raising up women of faith and courage.

Then there is Cindy Jacobs, founder of Generals International and one of the leading prophetic and prayer voices internationally in modern times. Among her many books is Possessing the Gates of the Enemy, which is about prophetic intercession.

In their diverse ways, prophetic leaders are often forerunners who carry a breaker anointing into the various seven cultural mountains of influence. This is especially true concerning my dear friend in ministry, adventuresome and articulate media entrepreneur Patricia King.

When you add in the mix a woman such as the ecstatic prophetess Stacey Campbell of Canada, you begin to appreciate the immense diversity in giftedness among female prophets today.

Then there is the laid-down lover of Jesus who states, “Have you stopped for the one?” I can just hear Heidi Baker challenging us all right now as the co-founder of Iris Ministries. She has provokes us all to be all we can be in Christ Jesus.

They are so different woman leaders today and yet each is so effective in their distinct fields of endeavor: Marilyn Hickey, Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, Jane Jansen. And now we have a new generation coming forth such as Christine Cain, Alex Seeley, Katherine Ruonala, Jennifer Eviaz, Jessi Green, and so many more.

Destined for Greatness Together

Whether male or female, we can be totally secure in our identities as chosen sons and daughters of the King.

As the apostle Paul put it, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28, NASB1995).

We belong to Him (body, soul and spirit) and we want Him to use us however He desires.

One of His desires is that we would desire prophetic gifts that will enable us to teach, preach and interpret God’s will and purpose for ourselves and others (see 1 Corinthians 14:39).

I think it’s time to declare a no-competition zone.

Why not be cheerleaders for one another instead of critics?

The New Wine is found in the cluster. Right? So let’s put aside the pointing of the finger of religious opinion and debate, and let’s declare that we want each member of the body of Christ to excel and fulfill God’s highest purpose.

Bottom line: Not only are we better together but I believe we are destined for greatness together!

I encourage you to follow the example of these exemplary women of faith and make a difference in the kingdom of God for Jesus’ sake!

Yes, Together, in Christ Jesus, We Make a Great Team! {eoa}

How the Holy Spirit Moves: Bringing Order Out of Chaos

In order to understand how the Holy Spirit moves, you must first learn what He loves and how he operates. The Holy Spirit loves messes.

Bringing order into chaos is His nature.

It doesn’t matter if the chaos is in your nation, your personal life, politics or your family. God brings order to chaos.

How do I know?

At creation, as the Holy Spirit was lingering over the formless nothingness, God spoke into being the world as we know it.

“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering upon the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:2, ESV).

The Spirit of God “loved” the chaos to life, transforming it from mess to magnificence.

The Moving, Renewing Spirit of God

Many Bible scholars apply “the law of first mention” to their study and interpretation of the Scripture this principle maintains that the first time a word, a concept or a doctrine is found in Scripture fixes its characteristics from that point forward.

In the verse above, which is the second verse of the entire Bible, you see that the Holy Spirit moves.

And that is how He operates to this day.

All the time, He keeps moving across the surface of the earth and He brings light into darkness wherever He goes.

He didn’t stop moving that way after the earth was created because He is constantly renewing the face of the earth, along with the hearts of the earth’s inhabitants.

How the Holy Spirit Moves

The most basic answer to the question, “How does the Holy Spirit move?” is that He hovers.

He stays over something until He chooses to move on, having completed His inspection or implementation.

How should you respond to this information?

Sometimes your life may feel like “formless nothingness” too but the Holy Spirit within you is not inert.

You may feel like your faith has been shaken and that there is uncertainty all around you.

You can open your heart to receive the grace of God and to release it to others.

How You Move with the Holy Spirit

Once you know how the Holy Spirit moves, then you can move with the Holy Spirit.

Practically speaking, how does opening yourself to the Holy Spirit work in real life?

How can you prepare and position your spirit so you can move with the Holy Spirit?

Initially you must learn the value of quieting yourself. You need to slow down and eliminate hurry from your life.

When your spirit and mind are like a stirred-up fishbowl or shaken-up snow globe, you can’t hear what He’s saying.

The psalmist knew this secret: “I wait for the Lord, my soul does waits, and in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning” (Ps. 130:5–6).

These days, sometimes the process of waiting in the presence of the Lord is called “soaking.”

This is when you get your spirit’s tank refilled with the Holy Spirit and it is best to establish a pattern of doing it the first thing in the morning so that you can return to that inner place of peace and trust anytime throughout the day, finding your satisfaction in Him.

The psalmist compared a quieted soul to a contented young child who has been well cared for, whose hunger has been fully satisfied: “My soul is even as a weaned child” (Ps. 131:2).

Once you have quieted yourself, you can seek out God.

Throughout the day, you can exercise the gift of tongues; you can pray in the Spirit.

This builds your faith very effectively and turns you toward the Father’s heart.

Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “I speak with tongues more than you all” (1 Cor. 14:18) and what he meant was that he relied heavily on this gift, to the point that he may have used it more than all of the Corinthians put together.

An important part of opening yourself to the Holy Spirit is making a conscious determination to be a participant in whatever He wants to do instead of remaining merely a passive observer.

When you go to worship meetings, you should be ready to get involved, eager to give and not only to receive as you move with the Holy Spirit.

At the minimum, you should be an intercessor, praying for those who are leading the meeting, “holding up their arms” as Aaron and Hur held up Moses’s arms in order to bring victory to the Israelites. (See Exodus 17:8–13.)

Stir up your faith and believe that God wants to use “little ole me,” as Randy Clark says, to impart His love to others.

Even if you have a proverbial “bad day,” you can still allow God to use you.

On your worst day, you’ve still got something alive within you that you can give away. It is the hope of glory.

True hope is something the world just does not have.

When you are walking and moving in the strength and counsel that the Spirit supplies, you are operating in God’s grace.

Ask the Holy Spirit for a fresh revelation of His grace.

You already know that you cannot earn the gifts of the Spirit or access the power of God without grace.

When you move with the Holy Spirit in God’s grace, all the credit and all the glory returns to God, where it belongs—and the chaos around you is turned into life! {eoa}

Prophetic Word for 2022: The Era of the Holy Spirit and the Year of Upgrade

Since 1999, the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders has gathered some of the most respected prophetic voices from around the nation (United States) to pray and seek the Lord for a word for the next year. The following article represents our collective prophetic word of the Lord for 2022.

It was 22 years ago that this group started meeting together. Though the composition of this group has changed much over the years, as many of the founders have graduated on to their heavenly reward, there yet remains a faithful core of the original group. There has been an addition of many new strong prophetic voices. Cindy Jacobs remains as the convener and senior leader with other generals at her side. I, James W. Goll, remain, as one of the founders alongside Bishop Bill Hamon and others.

It is our conviction that we are to function as an Acts 13:1-3 group. This passage notes that it was the Holy Spirit releasing a prophetic word to the group, as opposed to the exclusive word of any one prophet. So, it is the consensus of our ACPE members that the Holy Spirit is speaking the following prophetic words to us.

It’s important to understand that all prophetic words need to be bathed in intercession. Our response, through prayer, helps words of blessing to come to pass, and can diminish or even avert words of judgment.

It is also important to note that God often speaks in seasons as opposed to calendar years. Many of the words given in the past are still being fulfilled even now around the world. So, the following is an overview of the ACPE word of the Lord for the calendar year of 2022, which is 5782 in the Hebraic calendar, and beyond.

For the Lord says, “This is a season where the Holy Spirit is particularly active with many powerful manifestations of His glory.”

This word came out over and over in our ACPE prophetic council. The operative word is that God is releasing new waves of His power throughout the world.

The Glory Shakings

Many voices are prophesying shakings to come. Nations will be shaken. (See Hag. 2:6-7) This will result in a “glory shaking” or “glorious shaking” for the body of Christ. Everything that can be shaken will be shaken, but it will result in great glory for the kingdom of God. As the nations shake, many will come to Christ. There will be a great awakening from the great shaking, so do not be afraid in the midst of the shaking! God is using this shaking to realign nations. Trust God! In the last season, Satan was shaking the nations, but now God is going to do the shaking. This will result is a wealth transfer that can be used for the great harvest of the nations. Believe God to upgrade everything in your life during this time. Miracles upon miracles will manifest in the glorious shaking.

During this era of the Holy Spirit, many prodigals will come back to the Lord. We are backing the Turnaround Tuesday movement where the body of Christ fasts on Tuesday for the salvation of families and for prodigals to come home. God will also shake and prune the church to prepare to receive them, along with the great harvest. There will be a special emphasis in 2022 on the family. God is calling families to “build the family altar” in their homes and pray with and for their families. The blessing given in Genesis 22:17-18 is for us today that through our offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

God will “shake until we awake.” These shakings will expose sexual sin in the church and corruption. When God gets ready to deal with nations, He always judges the church first.

The shakings can be likened to Ezekiel 37, where God spoke to the prophet to speak into the valley of dry bones. You may only see dry bones in your life now, but God is going to put your life into order and bring you into this great awakening that is happening. In the midst of the shakings, many will experience transitions. Be willing to let go of old traditions and move into the new without fear. This will help you get “unstuck” in your life.

Ephesians 6:13 admonishes us to take a stand against the things Satan is doing in our lives. As you choose to stand tall in the midst of the shakings, victory will be yours even during times of chaos and shakings.

The Nations Will Tremble

God is going to manifest His glorious self in a way that all will know that He is God. He is going to literally cause the nations to tremble before him. He is going to reveal Himself as the King of all kings, and the Lord of all lords.

The Technology Revolution

We are in the midst of one of the greatest revolutions since the industrial revolution. This revolution will be in the “unseen spaces” of the metaverse and web 3. Over the next few decades, the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality, using at this point technology such as Oculus, will drastically change the world as we know it. The introduction of robotics into our everyday lives will take place.

God will give His people new ideas on how to create jobs and be on the cutting edge of developing jobs that will result in the promised transfer of wealth.

Generation Z will experience a movement of holiness. They will be so fervent before God that it will provoke the generations before them to join in with their consecration. New waves of technology will be used that will result in hundreds of thousands of genuine conversions through the use of social media, such as TikTok and other new innovative tools.

There are many new technological breakthroughs coming that will involve the metaverse and Web 3, as well as cryptocurrency. Believers will become students of such things, and God will begin to put Christians on the forerunning edge of these technologies.

There was an admonition not to demonize these new technologies. They are neutral in and of themselves. Even though there is potential to use them for evil, we need to understand how to use them for good for the gospel’s sake. The possibilities of using augmented reality for things such as training for surgery and so forth are many.

This technology revolution will produce a great decentralization of the way we have done things in the past. Many structures will experience a decentralization. It will be important to discern when God is causing the structures to decentralize as opposed to Satan trying to break up and scatter structures. This will involve the economies of nations as well. The way we buy and sell will dramatically change over the next few years on an even larger scale than it already has. God will raise up a young generation who are futurists, or are very prophetic in their abilities to function in the world of cryptocurrency, and great wealth will be created for the kingdom of God.

Time for the Daniels and Josephs

We have released words about God raising up Daniels and Josephs who will prosper in whatever political climates, as well as financial climates, may come in the future. There is going to be an increase in the efficiencies of Christian leaders to begin to partner together in the area of Venture Capital and partnerships in business.

The creative anointing will flourish through teamwork, and Isaiah 65:8 will be a theme as it declares, “The new wine is found in the cluster.” Teamwork will release dreamwork that will reveal visions on how to proceed in the future.

Christian statesmen and women will become what was likened to “ninja warriors” —bold and not ashamed. The same will be true for God’s sheep. They will be strong and unafraid.

Receiving Pure Revelation: Seven Points that Matter

God wants to reveal His heart to you.

He wants to speak to you specifically about your life. As you create space and time for Him to speak to you, He will also reveal things regarding your church, city, nation and other things that are on His heart.

Sometimes you are just to be an intercessor and sometimes more action is required.

But first you must position yourself to hear from Him.

“I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, and how I may reply when I am reproved. Then the Lord answered me and said, ‘Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run'” (Hab. 2:1-2, NASB1995).

7 Points that Matter: Receiving Revelation

From these two verses, there are seven points that matter:

  1. Take your place.
  2. Be watchful.
  3. Believe God wants to speak to you.
  4. A pure heart motivation is everything.
  5. Write it down!
  6. Be ready to move into an appropriate application.
  7. Preserve His word for the days to come.

First, we are told to stand guard — to station ourselves on the “rampart,” a protective barrier. We are to be as soldiers dedicated to holding our ground in anticipation of hearing from our almighty Commander in Chief.

We are told to stand still and listen for God to speak — He may have something to tell us, to correct in us. Maybe our character or lack of faith needs to be put right. When He tells us through a vision, we are to record it by writing it down.

One day I heard the Lord speak to me while I was journaling about taking a vacation. It was a word to me in a specific time that I needed for my soul to rest. I wrote it down and I obeyed — what a wonderful time of refreshment that was! He spoke to me as I journaled. Fascinating.

We are to be watchful too. It’s so very easy to be distracted these days — so many activities that want our attention. But when we’re watchful for the Lord to speak, we focus on what really matters.

Believing that He really wants to communicate with us is crucial. Doubt may try and creep up the rampart but stand firm on faith in Him. With a pure heart, you will be motivated to keep a righteous life — and the Voice will be heard.

And remember, if the vision tarries, it’s because the appointed, specific time has yet to arrive.

And if it arrives but seems not to be for you personally, it could be for those who read the vision later — and because you were faithful to record it, they become the ones who run with your call. That’s what these verses mean to me.

Receiving Pure Revelation

How can we know if a word is genuine? It is too easy to dismiss a word as being “off” simply because we do not consider all of the factors.

First, we must evaluate the source of the word. Let’s say that you are learning how to use your prophetic gift and a thought crosses your mind. Simply because you are a prophet, does that mean it is from God? Not necessarily.

We must learn to discern the difference between three different voices that can sometimes sound almost the same: God’s Holy Spirit, our own thoughts and Satan.

John advises us to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God” (1 John 4:1).

How should we do that to determine if we are receiving pure revelation? We cannot test a word by its fruits yet if it has not been delivered, but we can anticipate its results to some extent.

Will the word express God’s love to the hearers, even as it convicts them? Or will it bring them condemnation and hopelessness? Are your own emotions and opinions part of the mix? Have you left an opening for the devil in your own life lately?

Jeremiah wrote, “I have not sent these prophets, yet they run around claiming to speak for me. I have given them no message, yet they go on prophesying” (Jer. 23:21, NLT; see also Ezekiel 13:1-2).

People can speak out of personal desire or ambition or a sense of urgency. We all know what it feels like to speak out of an unsanctified place in our hearts.

Just because something comes to us in a “spiritual” way does not guarantee that it comes from a pure source. Satan is a spirit too and he is deceptive by nature. “This is the spirit of the antichrist,” wrote John (1 John 4:3).

Even one of Jesus’ premier disciples, Peter, had to suffer a rebuke from the Lord: “Get behind Me, Satan!” — really a rebuke of the evil spirit who had incited him to say, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You” (Matt. 16:22-23).

If you’re just not sure, the wisest course of action is to either hold on to the word until you know what to do with it or to present it with qualifications (“It seems that God might be saying something like this….”)

Testing Revelation: The Word of God

The written Word of God is always the best test of any word of revelation. As the psalm tells us: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps. 119:105). In particular, a word will more likely be genuine if a prophet has been studying the Word and letting it inform his or her thoughts and judgments. A good example is the prophet Daniel, who wrote:

“It was the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, who became king of the Babylonians. During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, learned from reading the word of the Lord, as revealed to Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years” (Dan. 9:1-2, NLT).

His attention was on the message of the Word of God and he humbled himself to know more. He meditated on the written Word for a long time.

He resisted the fearful uncertainty that the evil one sent his way. And he got it right; his prophetic words and actions brought about the fulfillment of the very Word of God.

The Message Is What Matters

As we have already explored, words from God do not come to us only as thoughts that are meant to be spoken.

The Lord makes His words known to us in a wide range of ways, including visions, dreams, parables (see Hosea 12:10), “dark sayings” (see Psalm 78:2; Proverbs 1:6), natural things (see Jeremiah 18), angelic encounters and, as He did with Moses, face to face (see Numbers 12:8).

The mode of revelation is not as important as the message.

If God wants to get His word across, He will use the most appropriate means to do it. “Hear now My words: if there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, shall make Myself known to him in a vision. I shall speak with him in a dream” (Num. 12:6, NASB1995).

I encourage you to still yourself before the Lord and ask Him to speak.

Then write it down, check it against the Word of God and take whatever action He is calling you to take!

Blessings to receive pure revelation, record it and then LIVE it! {eoa}
