In one prophetic word, a preacher called on Owens from the pulpit.

But with God, through the church community, Satan is losing ground.

ISIS has taken responsibility for the shootout in Paris that killed one police officer and wounded two others. The attacker ambushed three police offers in the terrorist attack.

This morning I heard the Lord say, “The enemy has marked France for destruction because of its spiritual heritage. If My intercessors will rise up and build a spiritual wall around the nation—raise up impenetrable borders around the country through repentance and praise—I myself will raise up a standard that will stem the tide of this onslaught. I myself will rise up and cause France’s enemies to be scattered. I myself will empower the politicians and police with strategies to eradicate terrorists from the land and thwart future attacks. I myself will do it. So begin to pray now with greater fervor because lives are at stake, economies are at stake and your spiritual heritage is at stake. Begin to cooperate now with My grace and My agenda and My plan for your nation and I myself will fight with you and for you.”

I did a quick study on France’s spiritual heritage after receiving this prophetic word. For sake of space and time, what I found is too long and detailed to share in this article but here’s a short history:

The first Christians in France were Jews who converted and exiled from Israel, including Phillip the evangelist, Joseph of Arimathea, Lazarus (who Jesus resurrected) and Mary Magdalene.

Revival wind hit France around 1100 AD through the Albigenses, known as “reformers before the reform.” Another group called the Waldenses were evangelistic reformers that took the gospel into Spain, Germany, Poland and Bohemia.

Of course, we must remember the Huguenots, French Protestants whose numbers rose to about 2 million by 1562 and openly displayed their faith despite persecution. France also saw an awakening in the late 19th century and Pentecostalism spread there in the early 20th-century.

France’s Christian heritage is indeed rich—and France has seen more than its fair share of terror attacks dating all the way back to Christmas Eve 1800. when a bombing left 22 dead and over 50 injured. All told, there were seven deadly terror attacks in France in the 1800s.

Fast forward to the 1900s and France witnessed many terrorism-connected assassinations, car bomb and grenade attacks, hostage-taking and more. Over 60 terror-inspired attacks were reported in the 20th century.

Moving to modern days, we’ve seen at least 30 terror attacks in France—and the pace is accelerating. There were 12 terror attacks in 2016 and already four in 2017.

Let’s join France’s intercessors in praying:

• Pray for the hedge of protection to rise up around France.
• Pray for an end to terror in France.
• Pray against this constant attack on France’s spiritual inheritance; bind the hand of the thief that is working to dampen fervor for another awakening.
• Pray that intercessors on the land will repent for the sins of the land and work as agents of healing.
• Pray that the Lord would empower politicians and police with strategies to eradicate terrorists and thwart future attacks.
• Pray that intercessors in France will not grow weary.

We’ve recently heard the terrible tragic news of the terrorist attack near Parliament in England, and I just wanted to pray for you and just share a little bit of what I am hearing for our friends in England and London and the whole of U.K. and Europe also.

This is what I feel the Lord saying: 

As enemy has come in like a flood. God is going to raise up a standard. There’s going to be a standard of protection come in a unique way for the nation. The Lord is going to bless the intercession of people who are crying out for revival and awakening in England. Even in Parliament, you’re going to see a rising up of righteousness and people who are righteous, and there will be an outcry against this kind of behavior. It will end up unifying the nation, not dividing the nation.

I feel that as the Christians in England and the broader of the U.K. and Europe pray for the Muslims, there’s going to be great visitations come. I see signs and wonders and miracles. I see many people of the Islamic faith coming to Christ—God visiting them in unique ways with angelic hosts and things like this and sending more laborers. I believe all of these terrible things Satan meant, even the people who have died, which is so awful, we can’t even imagine how awful that is. And we are grieving with you here in the United States—God is going to release such evangelism, such great things are going to impact the Muslim people in a great way. It’s not time for hating. It’s time for praying. Let’s not be haters; let’s be prayers. 

To London, I pray for God to strengthen and bless you.

What the enemy meant for evil, God will turn for good in such unique ways you cannot imagine. You’re going to see some things exposed because of this. It’s like the enemy went too far. I see there’s like a red line in the sand now, and there’s going to be secret exposures of some other rings, other terrorist rings, and I think this man might have been a lone wolf, but there’s someone who is radicalizing who’s going to be exposed. Particularly there is one radical voice who lives in the U.K. who’s been under observation, but will actually come to light, that He’s radicalizing particularly 20- to 30-year-olds and in fact, not only men, but women. You’re going to see this be exposed, but it’s going to avert many more possible disasters, and God is going to give great wisdom to the secret services community there to protect the nation. 

Let’s just pray.

Father I pray the God of all comfort for those individuals who’ve lost loved ones. Father I pray in the name of Jesus for healing of those who were hurt. Father I pray that You comfort even the government, the government leaders, that You give them extraordinary wisdom, the members of Parliament, the House of Lords, the prime minister. And Father I thank You, Lord, that You will do this, and I thank You for the great churches in England, the unity, the John 17 unity, that is coming out of this, the prayer meetings that will spring out of this. Father we thank You, and we say together, “Enough is enough, this is a line in the sand. Satan has gone too far, and we’re going to rise up and pray for the nation!” {eoa}

The Coming Women’s Movement

Having recently urged the body of Christ to undertake a critical Esther Fast, we want to share more of why I believe an “Esther Hour” has come to America. Two recent, vivid dreams have put me on high alert. I already shared what happened three years ago in Fredericksburg, Virginia. There, a weighty, corporate vision gripped every person present with the idea of a mass mobilization of possibly a million women to the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

While I still don’t know how that will fully manifest, I feel something has been unveiled in the spirit. The recent Women’s March that followed President Trump’s inauguration, combined with witches being urged to publicly curse the new president and his cabinet, have convinced me that it is only a matter of time until the Lord puts all the chess pieces on the board to reveal a true woman’s movement. The voice and witness of the Deborahs, Esthers, Miriams and Marys will be heard. But it is Esther above all that is being highlighted in this hour, which is why the upcoming Esther Fast is so critical.

The Importance of the Queen

God always has an answer. For every darkness, he has prepared a light. In former days of witchcraft and governmental conspiracy, her name is Esther. Two portraits of her came to our team in recent dreams, and both of them give me great hope.

The first dream was simple, but had a stunning message. In it, a 7-year-old girl was being added to our team. Though she was nationally recognized as a child prodigy at checkers, she was actually about to be revealed as an international chess master. This struck me because seven years ago, we gathered 15,000 intercessors to Houston for a silent prayer march around a massive Planned Parenthood temple of death. At the time, this facility was the second largest abortion operation in the world next to China: six stories, 78,000 square feet, positioned right in the middle of four minority neighborhoods.

After the Houston gathering, we called for a small “Esther March” that saw a handful of women who previously chose abortion make the trek on foot from Houston to Dallas, culminating in the Dallas Esther Call.

God was showing us something in this dream. Chess is a game of strategy and foresight. In other words, you have to be able to think multiple moves into the future to anticipate what your opponent will do.

Also, the single most powerful piece on the chessboard is the queen. This “7-year old girl” is all about that little Esther movement, except now she is grown and ready to take her place on the national and international stage. I believe God has masterfully prepared a confrontation for the last seven years, allowing the climate in America to culminate around the definitions of both Life and Womanhood.

Millions of women were recently given front-row, headline seats to the vision of angry womanhood currently being forced onto our daughters—one laced with profanities and false ideologies. That is the future they would produce. Yet diametrically opposed to this, God has been patiently cultivating a different spirit in the hearts of a generation of noble young ladies who are now ready to add the strength of their voice as queens of righteousness. The strategy of the Lord is to demonstrate to the entire world the difference par excellence of the young women He has prepared for such a time as this.

Breaking the Mindset of Death

The second dream drives this point home even more dramatically. After spending five days in the mountains of Colorado seeking the Lord, I dreamed a dream. It was unexpected. But I saw an Esther Movement, with young girls and women coming from all over to hear the book of Esther being taught by a woman in her thirties. It was like a revival, with great buzz and expectancy all around this outdoor gathering.

I was among only a few men in the middle of the gathering, but I didn’t have my Bible. I was relieved when a prophetic friend gave me his old, beat-up Bible. At that moment, the young, female teacher stood up and proclaimed that there were two certain words in the book of Esther that actually meant “Nazgul.”

I awoke knowing beyond any doubt that this strange dream was from God. Just as I had been given a Bible in the dream, instantly I knew I had received the Word of the Lord to understand its meaning.

In the Lord of the Rings by . Tolkien, the Nazgul were fallen spirits, lords of death in service to the Dark Lord. In the final battle, the king of the Nazgul faced Eowyn, a shield maiden of Rohan. He did not know who she was because she was dressed in a man’s battle armor with her face hidden. As the only person standing between the Nazgul king and his prey, she was not physically as strong as a man.

The Nazgul king warned her: “No man can kill me.” At that moment, Eowyn removed her helmet. With her long hair flying in the breeze, she took her sword and proclaimed, “I am no man!” And then she drove her sword into the Nazgul king’s skull and killed him. It was dazzling and heroic, but the symbolism is clear. The mindset of death (the skull) that has gripped a generation is about to be pierced by the dignity, courage and strength of a new generation of women.

Esther is not a man, and that’s a good thing. Only the unique qualities of godly women can disrupt the powers of death and seize the present throbbing moment for the final rollback of Roe v. Wade. Eowyn, who longed to fight the great battles of her people, was relegated to traditional roles because she was a woman. Yet when the time came, as a queen positioned rightly on the board, she alone brought down the spirit of death that terrorized the land.

Take Action! Fasting through Purim

America stands at a precipice of identity: national identity; gender identity; missional identity. Will we embrace vitriol and rage? Or will we embrace the beautiful courage that expresses itself through meekness clothed with dignity and strength?

Like Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, I am calling for women across America to follow Esther’s footsteps. This Purim (March 12), as Jews worldwide celebrate God’s deliverance of Israel through Esther’s courage and sacrifice, I am inviting tens of thousands of women to undertake an Esther Fast from March 8-11 leading up to Purim. Take your place in the counsels of the Lord on the stage of history in this hour.

Cry out for mercy, clarity and further revelation for divine strategy in the days ahead. God is marshaling an army of Eowyns who have long felt sidelined by the church. I proclaim, let the queens of righteousness arise. The day of response on the National Mall is coming. But first, I urge you, follow Esther’s footsteps in prayer and fasting. This is the wisdom of the Lord. {eoa}

The anticipation leading up to Inauguration Day was intense. With threats of violent protests—more than 200 were arrested, and six police officers were reportedly injured during the fray—and prophetic warnings from many leaders in the body of Christ urging prayer, it’s no wonder there was a sound of victory when Donald J. Trump officially stepped into the office of president of the United States.

But in that moment, there was more than the sound of victory—there was the sound of lions roaring in the spirit. When Trump decreed and declared so emphatically, “There should be no fear. We are protected, and we will always be protected … by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God,” roars echoed in the spirit.

It wasn’t Trump’s roar. It wasn’t the roar of false prophets with conspiracy theories who try to wring money from your pocket with fearful predictions that offer no hope of redemption or mercy.

No, it was the sound of the Lord roaring from on high, uttering His voice from His holy habitation (Jer. 25:30). It was the sound of God Almighty roaring from Zion, reminding us He is a refuge and stronghold for His people (Joel 3:16).

I also heard the sound of the enemy roaring with the sting of a setback—and I urge you to keep praying. The enemy’s agenda took a massive blow on Friday. We won a battle, but we’re still fighting a spiritual war against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6).

Remember, 1 Peter 5:8 tells us, “Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

God has shown forth His mercy on America, just as the true prophets of God with a reverent fear of the Lord proclaimed despite being laughed to scorn as the mainstream media manipulated the news to portray Hillary Clinton as a shoe-in.

As Amos 3:8 puts it, “The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken; who can but prophesy?”

I prophesy to you, in the name of Jesus, we will see more divine interventions in the days ahead. We’re in a kairos moment. It’s an opportune time. We’re on the precipice of a Third Great Awakening. There’s just one condition. We must continue with the heart posture of 2 Chronicles 7:14:

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” {eoa}

When I flew into D.C. yesterday, there were so many Secret Servicemen on the plane I wondered what was going on! I was texting with some colleagues about it when suddenly I looked up, and President Jimmy Carter was standing in front of me, extending his hand so I could shake it.

It was an interesting encounter that had me pondering many things.

When I landed in D.C., I got caught up in the Carter entourage but finally made it to my cab. That’s when I heard an urgent warning in my spirit over D.C. I heard:

“Danger, danger, stranger danger … It’s not coming from where you think.”

I published a short Facebook video yesterday diving into this and praying. Please view it and agree with us in prayer. We can stop whatever the enemy has planned. We can push back this darkness, in Jesus’ name.

POTUS is short for President of the United States, and a new group of prophets, pastors, and other Christians has created what they’re calling POTUS Shield—to surround the new president and the government with prayer. 
 
They started in Washington to discern, declare and decree the strategies of God for America. First, they met at the National Press Club and then in discreet small groups outside places like the Supreme Court.
 
Charisma Senior Editor Jennifer LeClaire prayed with one such group.
 
“The morning of the election, the Holy Spirit told me ‘today—on Election Day—a kingdom will be toppled.’ And we saw that happen, I saw it with my own eyes,” she explained. “When I looked at the map when I woke up the next morning, the map was almost all red. And I’m thinking ‘this is parabolic of the blood of Jesus.’

“People want to say ‘Oh, America’s going to be judged and America’s going to hell in a hand-basket.’ Well, the blood of Jesus is sufficient for the sins of America,” she added. 
 
POTUS Shield participants aren’t gathering just to gather. They mean to create a serious prophetic and prayer shield over parts of the government like the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court. They intend to be serious spiritual partners to this secular government.
 
Mark Gonzales with the Hispanic Action Network believes this could bring about a great awakening and even reformation.
 
“The future of America is literally in the hands of the church in this hour,” he said. “God has given us an opportunity, a reprieve so to speak, to really engage like we’ve never engaged and allow us to shift this country through the power of prayer, fasting and seeking God.”
 
“And at the same time, engaging like we’ve never engaged with our civic responsibilities,” Gonzales added. 
 
“The Lord told me He’s releasing the angels of transition, and they’re going to help transition the government into what we’ve all been praying for,” LeClaire told CBN News. “So our prayers are so important right now. Right now is not the time to stop praying. It’s time to pull our boots up, roll our sleeves up and work harder than ever before.”
 
“No matter how small you are, you’re important,” expressed intercessor Denise Emerine. “And I felt like God was saying ‘I’m going to call my people who are marked by My name to come and repent for the sins of this nation, but more importantly, I’m going to turn that and I’m going to heal your land.'”
 
LeClaire sees Trump as a major change agent.
 
“He’s going to turn the tables on the economy—we’re already seeing strong reports,” she said. He’s going to turn the tables with Israel—we’re already seeing he’s standing staunchly with Israel. And so many other areas: trade, foreign trade, immigration—there are so many things he has an opportunity to do if the church will stand with him, support him and pray for him.”
 
These Christians say if you feel like you’ve been on the back burner, it’s time to let God use you again.
 
“He is there with the brokenhearted, with the humble. He’s there with those who said ‘Look, I messed up, I didn’t do, I didn’t fulfill, I didn’t whatever.’ But this is the time He’s needing us,” Candace Long of Jasper, Georgia said. “We’ve not lost our assignment. The assignment is still there. He who has called—the calling is without reproach.”
 
One reason LeClaire is trusting Trump is because of the counsel he’s getting.
 
“If you look at his Cabinet, if you look at his advisers—so many Christians, LeClaire said. “He has surrounded himself with godly counsel, and the Bible says ‘blessed are those who do not stand in the counsel of the ungodly.'”
 
Over and over again, the prophetic voices in POTUS Shield mentioned that God has given the country a time of reprieve, that Christians in this time must realize how important they are and that their words and deeds can affect the destiny of a nation.

During Chuck Pierce’s Head of the Year conference in October, something shifted. Chuck released a prophesy over Dutch about visiting strategic sites in America before the election, and he set out on a tour to pray in 12 cities. 

But Dutch just shared something else significant that I did not know. A trusted prophet friend of his had a vision of John Knox, a Scottish clergyman and leader of the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s, standing behind him. 

“In his day, evangelicals in Scotland were routinely burned at the stake and their Bibles incinerated. Knox himself was imprisoned and enslaved for his involvement in the Reformation. Undeterred, he continued his stand, praying every day, ‘Lord, give me Scotland or I die!,'” Dutch says. “Knox’s prayers were answered. This great reformer was used by God to transform the church and revive the country. Queen Mary of Scotland, fiercely opposed to the Reformation, once said of him, ‘I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies in Europe.'”

In this vision, while Knox standing behind Dutch, he was holding up the number 313. As it turns out, 313 in the Strong’s concordance is the Greek word for “new birth” or “new beginning.” On top of that, the 313th day of the year was Nov. 8—election day. 

“Our interpretation was: In answer to the prayers of the church, a great awakening and reformation (a “new birth”) will begin for America on November 8. Amazing,” Dutch says.

“I certainly don’t see President-elect Trump as fathering this movement, but I do see him as an agent of change who, in some ways, will prepare the way … a forerunner of sorts. I also believe the mercies of God spared us from Mrs. Clinton and her incredibly liberal ideologies—a leadership which would have moved us farther away from the turnaround we so desperately need. I shudder when I think about the 30- to 40-year tenure of the liberal Supreme Court she had planned to appoint. America may never have recovered from such devastation.”

When describing the elections, Dutch uses the word “mercy” very intentionally. 

“For others and me, three profound occurrences caused this word to become our primary appeal to heaven during that season. Firstly, in February while praying at the White House, two friends and I had an angelic visitation. In response to our prayers and decrees, the angel simply said, ‘Mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy.’ Yes, six times,” Dutch says. “Secondly, a few weeks later, an intercessor shared a dream she had received from the Lord regarding me. ‘In the dream,’ she related, ‘You kept declaring, ‘I have tapped into a root of mercy.'”

Then, two weeks before the 2016 presidential election, Dutch shares, a trusted pastor and friend had a vision while watching his Appeal to Heaven conference online. As Dutch and others prayed, crying out for mercy, he began to see coins raining down all around Dutch. 

“Eventually, I was ankle-deep in silver coins. When he looked at them closely, they all had the word ‘Mercy’ over their various pictures. One coin in particular had George Washington on the front, with the word ‘Mercy’ over him; the other side had the American flag pictured with the words ‘New Glory’ over it. As you know, a nickname for our flag is ‘Old Glory.’ There is ‘new glory’ coming to ‘old glory.’ Then my friend heard the words, ‘Mercy is our new currency,'” Dutch says. “Mercy is undeserved kindness. In Scripture, it is linked to covenant—God’s covenantal faithfulness and kindness. We are told that His mercies are new each morning (Lam. 3:22-23), and they also triumph over judgment (James 2:13).”

As Dutch sees it, the question now becomes, “Will we waste this precious gift, or ‘spend’ it wisely? He says the tendency of the church is to pray—sometimes fervently—during an election, then return to our prayerless ways afterward. A Christian senator once called Dutch out on this, saying, “The church prays us into office; then we’re on our own!” He actually went on to say, “I can tell when the church is praying and when it isn’t.”

“If we, the body of Christ, don’t continue to pray fervently for awakening, reformation and the empowering of those we voted into office, the mercy we received will be squandered. Heb. 4:16 tells us where we find mercy: ‘Let us come boldly to the throne of grace, to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.’ The word ‘time’ in this verse is the Greek word kairos, which means ‘strategic or opportune time,’ not ‘chronological time,'” Dutch says.

“We must, at this strategic and opportune time in history, continue to cry out for mercy. We must also pray for our leaders, especially Mr. Trump, who is at best a baby Christian. We must ask for wisdom, revelation, humility and boldness. Only an appropriate blend of these spiritual gifts and virtues will bring him success,” Dutch continues. “Let us become a John Knox-type company of reforming intercessors: ‘Give us America or we die!” Let’s steward America’s new birth as we would that of a newborn baby. And may we spend our new currency wisely, until new glory from heaven permeates our land. Continue praying for America, friends, and those God has set into office. May His mercy and new glory come to us.” {eoa}

Chuck Pierce is calling the month ahead “critical.” I sense this urgency in my spirit also and encourage you to partner with him in declaring what heaven is declaring in alignment and unity with heaven. 

Chuck perceives the heavens are declaring the glory of God, according to Psalm 19. Our response, he says, should be to meditate on this glory all month and watch for glory interactions wherever you are. 

Chuck says the Lord told him on Nov. 27, “The next 10 days are critical.” 

“Everything seems critical and for the Lord to say it like that … there’s still something about this election we’re not getting. This is a God-thing we are in, and things are going to turn upside down,” Chuck shares. “I gave a word eight years ago that said, ‘In 2016, the Electoral College will be the issue.’ God is dealing with a structure in this nation that will cause the future to be reprogrammed.”

In his prophetic discussion, Chuck also asserts Russia will again be prominent this year. One can see the stage being set for this reality. Chuck insists it’s vital to understand what God is doing in the church in Russia. 

“With Fidel Castro dying, things are about to change as never before,” Chuck says. “It has to do with the way we worship in freedom. It has to do with us in this nation and the nations aligning … What is happening right now is very key. With Fidel Castro dying and Donald Trump coming into office, there will be a realignment. The nations are realigning in the earth for a great latter-day shift, a great harvest shift, great movement from Russia into Israel for fulfillment. You’re looking at a real key team in that shift.”

Prophetically, Chuck sees a true apostolic move coming, one that has never been in Russia, and he declares the prophetic dynamic of that nation will come alive. 

“There is only a short, 10-year window for this revival. Russia, Hong Kong and America represent a triangle God is forming; He is redoing the alignments of the nations. Because of Mr. Trump, we will remain aligned with Israel for this short, 10-year window,” Chuck says. “What it represents in your life is an unlocking and a restoration of the captivities of the past. This is a fulfillment of the captivities of the past being broken off of us. You are in a place where the glory of God will realign nations. All the dragon nations will have to realign. What you are hearing today is key. Don’t try to understand it with your mind. It will redo the way we do things in days ahead. Quit being legalistic in the way you think and operate; this is a time of change like never before.”

Chuck plans to pull an apostolic-prophetic network from every one of those nations and review the teachings that need to get in. Then, he prophesies, Cuba will come alive. 

“The door to Cuba that is now open will be an open door with many, many enemies involved. I say to Florida, get ready! You must secure a glory road throughout that state or else what would come through will form a government in Atlanta,” Chuck says.

“This is a time that I am realigning the lands and the people of the lands. Lay down your prejudices and your political gleanings—what I am doing is way above this. I am creating a government in the earth that will shake things in a new way. I am working both the heavens and the earth. These next 10 days are critical to aligning the heavens, the earth and the nations of the earth. Get ready, for I have brought you here for a time such as this.”

Cindy Jacobs is encouraging intercessors across the country to pray to keep the nation stabilized through December 19th. She points to two issues that need our ongoing prayer—and I agree wholeheartedly.

First, a possible recount of the electoral college. 

“You are probably aware that Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president, is raising money for a recount in three states, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania,” Cindy says. “Hilary Clinton, the Democratic candidate, is now joining in on the demand for a recall. Money is being raised to pay for these recalls, and millions have been raised. Recounts have changed state election results, but never a federal one.”

I live in Florida, and I still remember the hanging chads fiasco.

The second prayer matter is the electoral count proceedings. As she sees it, it is possible, though not likely, that a recount could affect the landscape of the Electoral College. However, she adds, this has been an usual election cycle. While we must pray for these two issues, she says it is critical that the eyes of the intercessors must focus in a large way on the following for the Electoral College. 

Now is not the time to stop praying. Now is the time to press in even harder.

“God gave warnings, as early as 2008 by Chuck Pierce, concerning the need to watch this Electoral College,” Cindy says. “He recently prophesied that we must watch for the next 10 days. In fact, these are tumultuous times where we cannot relax in our fervent intercession for the nation. Many are not aware of the mechanics of the way the Electoral College functions. It is designed to give each state a voice in the election.”

Here, in an abbreviated fashion, is how it works. By Dec. 13, states must make final elector appointment decisions known, at least six days before the meeting of the electors. By Dec. 19, electors meet in their states and vote for president and vice president on separate ballots. On Dec. 28, the certified votes are handed to the president of the Senate and the archivist. Then on Jan. 6, Congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes.

“If no presidential candidate wins 270 or more electoral votes, a majority, the 12th Amendment of the Constitution provides for the House of Representatives to decide the presidential election. If necessary, the House would elect the President by majority vote,” Cindy says. “There have been what is called ‘faithless electors’ in the history of the United States, such as in 1836 when 23 Virginian electors acted as a bloc. Although no such faithless electors have changed the outcome of any election to date, the 12th Amendment was needed in the election of the Vice President under Martin Van Buren, as the result of faithless electors.”

Cindy also notes that Richard Johnson, Van Buren’s vice presidential pick, lost by one as the result of the electors changing their votes. This, she explains, caused the need for the 12th Amendment to be invoked, and it went to the Senate, where Johnson won by one vote. Although he was confirmed, she says this caused Johnson to be a political embarrassment to his party.

“It is important to understand the workings of the governmental process and that we pray for order to keep the ship of state steady in these times,” Cindy says. “We must pray for the Electoral College and electors. We must cry out to God to unify our nation as well. The need to appeal to heaven has not diminished since the election. Let us raise our voices to the God of the nations to send mercy upon us now more than ever.”
