Robert Morris Reflects on His Near-Death Experience

It took place nearly nine months ago, but Gateway Pastor Robert Morris is still asked about it on a regular basis.

“Now what happened in April was I had two torn arteries and started bleeding internally,” Morris shares in a new podcast interview with Charisma Publisher Dr. Steve Greene.

“There’s no medical reason that it happened. But I lost over 50 percent of my blood, had to have two surgeries to repair those. I was in hospital for about eight days, ICU for four days. And then it was about a four-month recovery to recover from all the blood that I lost. But I am now back in health and doing well. and I’m happy to be on this earth. I’ve been telling everyone I’m happy for two reasons: one for the kingdom, and one for my family and friends, and so I’m glad to be here,” Morris says.

With 2019 just days away, Morris spoke candidly about his health, his wife and his new book.

Why Lysa TerKeurst Fought for Her Marriage After Her Husband’s Infidelity

Lysa TerKeurst defines vulnerable as she explores the latest chapter in her life: recommitment after his devastating affair and her multiple illnesses.

In her most recent Instagram post, she shares why she chose to stay, even when it made no sense.

Many people have asked why I stayed and fought for my marriage. The answer to that is as complicated and intricate as trying to understand what makes a massive ocean pull back and stop at the shore. Apart from God, who can ever truly understand a thing like that? There was a season that it wasn’t reasonable or responsible to stay. Just like when the ocean doesn’t respect the boundary of the shoreline and hurricane conditions force evacuations. So there were long stretches of silence, separation, and seeking wise counsel. But then the shoreline became safe again. And I had a choice. I was offered a second chance at moments like this one. Simple moments that make complex situations less complex. Forgiveness is a process. Healing is a long journey. And I’ll never ever criticize another person for choices they made that were different than mine when placed in the same horror and heartbreak as me. Or maybe they had no choice at all. I have nothing but tender love and understanding. It’s a brutal walk. So why did I stay? I was given that chance. I love Art. And I’ve discovered imperfect love is still full of sacred possibilities, redemptive strength, it’s own kind of purity, and moments like the one pictured here.

TerKeurst announced last June that her husband, Art, had been unfaithful and their marriage was over.

But the Lord had other plans. In December, the couple recommitted to each other and shared the stunning images on Instagram.

TerKeurst’s journey through her husband’s betrayal and the Lord’s redemption is captured in It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way.

Christmas Miracle: Iraq Officially Declares Christmas a National Holiday to Celebrate Birth of Jesus

Call it a Christmas miracle: Iraq, a predominantly Muslim nation, declared Dec. 25 to be a national holiday to celebrated “on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.”

The official Twitter account for the Iraqi government released multiple statements and clips discussing the move and the role of Christians in the Middle Eastern country.

Open Doors USA, a persecution watchdog group, ranks Iraq as No. 8 on its World Watch List.

According to the 2018 report:

In Iraq, numerous groups contribute to Christian persecution. Radical movements such as the Islamic State (IS) group target Iraqi Christians and other religious minorities for kidnappings and killings. Islamic leaders slander Iraqi Christians in mosques, leading to further persecution. Government officials, both national and local, have threatened Iraqi Christians, “encouraging” them to leave the country. Political parties who hinder pluralism also contribute to the persecution of Iraqi Christians in the public space. Moreover, Iraqi Christians from Muslim backgrounds face serious pressure from their clans, families and communities, who will sometimes go so far as to try to kill them. At the same time, within Christianity, leaders of historic churches have sometimes thwarted official recognition of newer Iraqi Christian denominations.

David Curry, president of Open Doors USA, says, “Christianity was birthed in the Middle East, so it’s appropriate and right that the Iraqi government is creating space for religious freedom for Christians.”

Prophet: The American Church Is Crumbling

Prophetic voice Jeremiah Johnson tells Jim Bakker the American church is crumbling because, “We’re giving people keys of authority that have quit on intimacy.”

The only way to restore America to the Lord is to follow Jeremiah 27:18, Johnson says.

The President Must Mobilize the Evangelical Right in 2019

Still nearly two years away, some headlines are already pointing to this question: Can Trump win in 2020?

Stephen E. Strang, a best-selling author who released his newest book, Trump Aftershock, says for that second bid to be successful, Trump must mobilize his major support system from 2016 within the Evangelical right.

“What are we to make of all the changes taking place in the world today?” Strang wrote in Trump Aftershock. “We’re in the midst of a cultural revolution, and it’s no secret that traditional moral values are taking a beating. Looking at the landscape of the past 10 to 20 years and the mounting toll of crimes and crises that fill the daily headlines, it’s hard to ignore the feeling that maybe we’ve gone too far. The culture has drifted way out of bounds and out of control. The hate-filled rhetoric and threats of physical violence coming from the left reveal just how deeply divided we are as a nation—so divided there seems to be little hope of ever reaching agreement on what’s to be done about it.

“As I wrote shortly after the publication of my book God and Donald Trump, few people outside the four walls of a church pay much attention to what God is doing in the world,” Strang continued. “To them, ‘acts of God’ are what people call tornadoes and hurricanes. But is it possible God has a plan for this nation? Is it possible He has a plan for His people? In that book, I cited several examples of individuals who felt Trump’s election was a sign we were being given a second chance.”

Strang has made the case that Donald Trump won the evangelical vote by the largest margin in history because Christians believed he alone had the leadership skills and persistence to reverse the death spiral the nation is in.

“He is not a theologian or even an evangelical,” Strang said, “but whenever he has expressed concern about the moral decline in America, he has been lampooned by the media as a hypocrite and a bigot. Meanwhile, men and women on the left are marching in the streets for abortion on demand and celebrating the right to take the life of an unborn child up to the moment of birth. They’re glad same-sex marriage was validated by the Supreme Court and that marijuana is being legalized in state after state. And when it comes to old-fashioned morality, the mantra of the secular culture is simply ‘anything goes.’ This too is a sign of biblical judgment.”

But most Americans recognize the problems, the author added.

“You don’t need to be religious to perceive that something is wrong with the way the country has been going,” Strang said. “Two years into his presidency, many on both sides are still shocked that Trump won the election, but they’re impressed by what he has managed to accomplish in such a short time—not only with the economy but in the courts, the culture, foreign policy and the overall sense of well-being. While disappointed Democrats are still raging about the election and doing their best to disrupt his agenda, for many Americans, it feels as if we’ve been given a reprieve.”

Released on Election Day, Trump Aftershock explores the “president’s seismic impact on culture and faith in America” and uncovers unreported facts while objectively helping readers understand what the nation’s most unlikely and unconventional president has accomplished.

Stephen E. Strang is the bestâ€selling author of God and Donald Trump, which was brandished by the president during his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in 2018. The CEO and founder of Charisma Media, Strang was voted by Time magazine as one of the most influential evangelicals in America. He has traveled to more than 50 countries, has interviewed four U.S. presidents and has been featured on Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, CBN, Dr. James Dobson’s “Family Talk” and The Daily Caller.

Trump Aftershock is published by FrontLine, an imprint of Charisma House, which has published books that challenge, encourage, teach and equip Christians, including 14 New York Times’ best-sellers.

Roma Downey Shares Triumphant Testimony Through Waves of Grief

As we near the end of 2018, I wanted to send you each love and gratefulness for sharing your light and kindness with us throughout this year. I also can’t help but reflect upon the last 12 months and to be honest sometimes it felt as though the valleys were deeper than the mountains were tall.

Perhaps some of you can relate?

For me, this year has been challenging, filled with personal heartache and loss as well as truly traumatic events in our community. Losing my brother this fall broke my heart, and I still feel waves of grief wash over me even as I write. Then several weeks ago, we got an urgent call to evacuate our home due to rapidly approaching, out-of-control wildfires.

After weeks of evacuation, uncertainty and anxiety, we are finally back in our home. We are more fortunate than many families here in our hometown of Malibu as at least we have a home to return to. For this, we are truly grateful and holding tight to God’s unwavering goodness, even though the grief feels too great at times. And as I turn my mind to preparation for the holiday season, it feels strangely bittersweet and out of place given all that has happened this year for me, my family and so many others. {eoa}

Car Crashes Into Church During Service, Injures 6

Six people were injured when a car came barreling through the church wall on Sunday. An elderly congregant reportedly drove a Toyota Corolla into Crossroads United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio, about 15 minutes after the service began.

“I didn’t see anything. I just went with the flow. It slid us across the aisle,” Marie Winnestaffer, who was sitting in a pew that was struck by the car, tells the Columbus Dispatch. “It felt like a bomb.”

The Rev. Jay Anderson tells an NBC affiliate that members were singing a hymn when the car crashed through the wall. He says that the wall “just exploded” and that pieces of glass went flying.

Sadie Robertson Just Released Her First Worship Song

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the rock of our salvation” (Ps. 95:1).

Sadie Robertson (Duck Dynasty) is faithfully impacting the kingdom of God in major ways. She tours the U.S. with Live Original, a conference she organizes each year to help propel young Christians into their faith.

On Dec. 7, Sadie released her first worship song “One.” Sadie wrote the song’s lyrics and debuts her vocals alongside her worship team, calling themselves “Sadie Robertson and LO Worship” standing for Live Original. At its core, the song’s message is about unity. She unpacks her heart behind the meaning, “it was about really writing a thing … that echoes the heart of Jesus, and there’s no fear in that.”

Many may be surprised to learn that Sadie can sing and better yet, sing well. The 21-year-old Louisiana native is a published author, previous host of the Movieguide® Awards, a Dancing With the Stars runner-up and motivational speaker, but singing in front of people is what really tested her faith. “It’s definitely the scariest thing I’ve done,” she said. However, Sadie worked through her fear by investigating the Bible and the message the Holy Spirit convicted her to share. The song’s chorus reads, “one body, one spirit, one anthem/ I am not alone/ One Father, one family, one anthem, I am not alone …”
