Exciting Biblical Find: A Massive Discovery from Jesus’ Time

JERUSALEM, Israel – A massive stone quarry from the Second Temple period has been uncovered in a Jerusalem industrial area. It’s the largest quarry ever discovered from the era before and shortly after the time of Christ.

According to a statement by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), “The excavation provides a glimpse into Jerusalem’s past at its zenith, just before the Romans destroyed it in 70 (AD).”

Another discovery of interest during the dig was a stone tool widely used by Jews during that era because the tool retained its purity according to Jewish Halachic law.

Archaeologists identified a number of cut stones of various sizes from the period, as well.

Michael Chernin and Lara Shilov, excavation directors for the IAA, explained, “Most of the building stones extracted from here were huge rock slabs, whose length reached (approximately 8 feet), their width was (4 feet) and they were (16 inches) thick.”

They added, “Each such quarried block weighed two-and-a-half tons! The impressive (sized) stones this quarry produced likely attest to their intended use in one of Jerusalem’s many royal construction projects in the late Second Temple period, beginning under King Herod the Great’s reign between 37-4 (BC).”

Outrage Erupts After Male Boxer Defeats Female Italian Olympian in 46 Seconds

The internet erupted Thursday over the latest Olympics controversy: Italian boxer Angela Carini abandoned her fight against Algerian opponent Imane Khelif just 46 seconds into their match.

The shocking and painful moment, which included Carini breaking down in tears inside the ring, is further igniting controversy over allowing biological men to compete in female sports.

But at this point it’s unclear if this match definitively meets that criteria.

Khelif — whom outlets like Fox News have said was “deemed to have male chromosomes” — is allegedly one of two boxers competing at the Olympic games this year who previously failed gender eligibility tests and, as a result, was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships, according to The Guardian.

However, Khelif reportedly doesn’t identify as transgender. Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, who is the second boxer to have purportedly failed gender eligibility tests, also hasn’t embraced the label, according to Time.

The IBA released a statement Wednesday addressing the situation surrounding both Khelif and Yu-ting.

“On 24 March 2023, IBA disqualified athletes Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif from the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships New Delhi 2023,” it read. “This disqualification was a result of their failure to meet the eligibility criteria for participating in the women’s competition, as set and laid out in the IBA Regulations. This decision, made after a meticulous review, was extremely important and necessary to uphold the level of fairness and utmost integrity of the competition.”

The IBA went on to say the athletes didn’t undergo a testosterone exam but went through “a separate and recognized test” with specifics that “remain confidential.”

That test, according to the IBA, found the individuals “did not meet the required necessary eligibility criteria and were found to have competitive advantages over other female competitors.”

Liberty University Sued by ACLU Over Alleged Dismissal of Transgender Employee

The left-leaning ACLU of Virginia has filed a lawsuit against Liberty University after the Christian institution allegedly dismissed an employee who identifies as transgender.

On July 29, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the college in the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Virginia on behalf of a former employee who claims to have been fired due to the staffer’s transgender identity.

Lawyers representing Ellenor Zinski, who worked at Liberty’s IT Helpdesk, claim their client was fired in August 2023 after disclosing a transgender identity. Zinski, a male, identifies as a transgender woman. Per the legal complaint, Liberty’s human resources department referred to Zinski’s transition as the impetus for the staffer’s dismissal.

CBN News has reached out to Liberty for a statement on the ordeal. If a representative responds, this story will be updated to include those remarks.

Administrators at Liberty allegedly told Zinski denying one’s sex at birth violates the Christian university’s doctrinal statement, its statement on professional ethics, as well as its harassment and discrimination avoidance policy. The documents state, in part, “Sinful acts are prohibited by God and include but are not limited to… denial of birth sex by self-identification with a different gender.”

Liberty’s doctrinal statement is directly tied to a biblical understanding of sexuality, rooted in the belief that God established two sexes, male and female, as is written in Genesis 1:27, and that sexual expression is preserved for one natural-born man and one natural-born woman within the confines of heterosexual marriage.

“Liberty explicitly fired Ellenor, an employee who had previously received glowing evaluations, solely for being transgender,” claimed ACLU attorney Wyatt Rolla, who specializes in transgender cases.

“Is this better than the Olympics imagery?” he captioned the photo, with thousands of followers replying and liking the post. Among them was actor Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus in the show. He responded, “Emphatically yes.”

The preview of the depiction of the Last Supper in “The Chosen” was a welcome picture for many after the Olympics opening ceremony included what the New York Post called a “drag show version” of the popular scene.

It was a strange moment that sparked no shortage of outrage, debate, and consternation.

“Thomas Jolly took inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting to create the setting,” an Olympics spokesperson told the Post, though others involved have since denied this and have, instead, claimed it was a scene featuring Greek god Dionysus.

Regardless, “The Chosen” inspired fans with a truly biblical take on the iconic and transformational scene — a final meal before Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Reports of Revival Spreading Like Wildfire

Revival fires are reportedly spreading across the United Kingdom. From England to Ireland, Christians are witnessing a “shift” and a new hunger for God in the once spiritually dry region.

“Something has shifted in the last six months and it feels almost like it’s a rising river,” said Pastor Craig Cooney who leads Hope Church in Northern Ireland. He believes the spiritual drought brought on by the pandemic is over.

“Between 2020 and 2023 I found myself often saying that I’ve never seen the church at such a low ebb that it just felt like we were going through the motions post-Covid, that churches were struggling, their numbers were down. But not only were their numbers down, there was just a lack of zeal, lack of passion, a lack of enthusiasm, a lack of growth. And something shifted around the start of this year, I would say, and it’s difficult to describe or define,” Cooney said.

Cooney, who also reaches more than 100,000 people on Instagram at , says the most noticeable change is a tangible presence of God as well as an increase in the number of healings.

“God Is in the Room”

“There’s this sense of ‘God is in the room’ that has been birthed out of and has probably birthed prayer, an increase in prayer. We have seen that in our own church. About 20% of our church now come to our weekly prayer meeting, which is at 6:00 p.m. a Wednesday. It’s not a convenient time, but it’s just an hour of solid intercession. And there’s just people crying out for the lost people, crying out for their families,” he said.

“And every single week we are getting testimonies of healing from people who might not even six months ago believed in divine healing. BREAKING: Beirut Hit by Israeli Strike, Hezbollah Commander Targeted for Rocket Attack on Children

JERUSALEM, Israel – Tensions are reaching a boiling point along both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border after the Hezbollah rocket attack that murdered 12 Israeli children playing soccer over the weekend. The Israeli military struck back today, hitting the Lebanese capital of Beirut in a single targeted drone attack aimed at a top terrorist leader.

It appears to be the start of retaliation in the wake of that deadly rocket attack fired from Lebanon.

“Hezbollah crossed a red line,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant posted on X shortly after Tuesday’s airstrike.

It was not immediately confirmed if any Hezbollah official was hit in the Beirut response.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu broke away from his War Cabinet to visit the Druze village hit by that Hezbollah rocket over the weekend.

As he consoled families of the 12 children and teenagers killed in the attack, Netanyahu expressed solidarity with the people and vowed a strong response. “Like all citizens of Israel – and I must tell you, like many people across the entire world – we were profoundly shocked by this terrible killing,” he stated.

The prime minister had also pledged to send a powerful message to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. He declared, “These children are our children; they are the children of us all. The State of Israel will not, and cannot, ignore this. Our response will come and it will be severe.”

New ‘Jesus Revolution’ Event Sees 2,000 Baptized at Pirates Cove

Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship in California is celebrating another massive baptism turnout at Pirates Cove. It’s the latest sign that the nationwide move of God that kicked into high gear with the Asbury awakening of 2023 isn’t over yet.

This latest Pirates Cove baptism comes on the heels of the annual Harvest Crusade held by Pastor Laurie at a fully packed Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The stadium was filled to capacity with 50,000 souls while more people gathered in the parking lot and online to participate.

Pastor Laurie spoke about “The Sinner’s Prayer,” and 3,500 people walked down on the field to give their lives to Christ. He says the fire marshal wouldn’t allow any additional people to go down to the field, so hundreds more people were backed up into the aisles. He reports another 1,500 people prayed to receive Christ online.

As a result of those 5,000+ salvations at the Harvest event, 2,000 people showed up to get baptized over the weekend at Pirates Cove in Orange County.

Last year, Pirates Cove was the site where 4,500 people were baptized by Laurie and his team in a single day. “In 12 months, we baptized 6,500 people!” Laurie exclaimed while telling the testimony during his Sunday sermon this past weekend.

“I see that God is working. As you know the last great spiritual awakening, the Jesus Movement, happened in California, and we’re praying, ‘Lord, do it again,'” he said.

He also explained the historical significance of the baptism site as well. “This is where we used to baptize people during the Jesus movement days. Cathe and I were baptized there, too. This is where we also shot the scenes for the Jesus Revolution film,” he posted.

Israeli Response: ‘We’re Going to War’ After Children Die in Rocket Strike

The Druze village of Majdal Shams buried its dead Sunday in the Golan Heights after the worst atrocity since the beginning of the nearly 10-month war between Hezbollah and Israel.

Israel plans a major response and is deciding what to do after 12 children were killed by a Hezbollah rocket as they were playing soccer.

Druze residents remain in shock from the attack.

One of them, Hassan Shakir, stated, “Big anger. Big. Big. I have no feelings that I can explain to you because only now we are waiting for all the children that are in the hospital to return to us safely.”

Another resident, Ibrahim Safadi, said, “I know one of the boys. He is a relative (of) mine and he is also a bit of my neighbor. Before, before the incident, two days before the incident, I was playing with him and speaking with him, and then two days later he’s dead in the news.”

Many Israelis are now bracing for greater conflict.

Tel Aviv resident Eran Ben Meir declared, “We’re going to war, it’s going to warm up (escalate) and (there will be) war. We’re going to war there.”

The Games in Paris: Golden Opportunity for Outreach?

WASHINGTON – Experts predict an estimated 15 million people will travel to attend the summer games in Paris – nicknamed the “City of Light.”

With more than 3 billion people tuning in to watch 10,500 of the world’s premier athletes compete for gold, Christian ministries and some athletic competitors see a golden opportunity to fulfill Jesus’s call to be the “light of the world.”

Daniel Roberts, 26, of Georgia, qualified for a spot running the 110-meter hurdles for Team USA in late June. He told CBN News his identity as a Christian outshines any acclaim or attention he receives as an elite athlete.

“We’re all here to worship God in our own special way,” Roberts said. “This is just a different way that I use my abilities and my gifts to bring glory to Him.”

Beyond the support of his family, friends, coaches and teammates, he’s also getting spiritual reinforcement from sports ministries like Athletes in Action, which is devoted to developing the mind, body and soul.

The ministry believes the transcending power of sport can be used to reach the ends of the earth with the message of the gospel.

When Frank Shelton lands in Paris, he and his team of volunteers will be praying for “divine appointments” to guide their time in the French capital, where they will serve as chaplains to the athletes.

Shelton told CBN News Christians do a good job helping the poor but fail to minister effectively to what he describes as “the powerful, prominent and popular.”

“They’re bold in what they do,” he explained referring to athletes who share their faith publicly. “And we need to be bold in sharing the gospel. I just don’t believe that we should be saints sitting on the sideline. We got to get in the game.”

“Christianity isn’t a spectator sport,” he added.

Paris marks Shelton’s fourth summer games. He recounted his team’s success at the 2016 competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“In Rio, we saw 1,054 people give their life to Christ: gold medalists, three Uber drivers, fans, spectators,” he recalled. “I’ve just learned that when we show up God shows off, and things happen. And people get saved.”

He’s praying for even bigger numbers in Paris, which saw its streets flooded with some 25,000 people in May for a “March for Jesus.”

Youth With A Mission built a schedule of events, including street worship and prayer, that spans three weeks and coincides with the international competition. The effort kicked off with 100 days of prayer starting in mid-April in conjunction with French churches and both local and international ministries.

“[It’s] so cool to see people coming from literally the ends of the world to Paris to proclaim Jesus,” said Sky Grimes with YWAM Paris Connect. “We’re working with local churches – churches with other countries. We’re trying to activate Paris with us.”
