Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning to NATO leaders that approval for Ukraine to use long-range Western-made missiles that could penetrate deep into Russia “would mean that NATO countries, the United States and European countries, are at war with Russia.”

When asked by reporters about the Putin threat, President Joe Biden essentially dismissed his warning, saying after a meeting Friday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, “I don’t think much about Vladimir Putin.” Biden said he wanted to make clear that “Putin does not prevail in this war.”

Dmitri Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, asserted Saturday that a pending decision by the U.S. and NATO nations to approve Ukraine’s deployment of the missiles would possibly prompt Russia to use nuclear weapons, and he cautioned that Kyiv could be turned into a “gray melted spot.”

For much of this month, there have been indications that the U.S. and NATO might change the policy and allow Ukraine’s request to use the missiles. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken hinted at such a change on a visit to Kyiv earlier in September.

The head of NATO’s military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer from the Netherlands, indicated Saturday that Ukraine would be legally and militarily justified in launching the weapons.

“Every nation that is attacked has the right to defend itself. And that right doesn’t stop at the border of your own nation,” Bauer declared.

Still, the Biden administration has been slow to agree to the change, perhaps due to divisions within the White House.

The Associated Press reports that two unnamed U.S. officials said they believed one reason for the British prime minister’s visit to Washington was to seek Biden’s approval to allow Ukraine to use British Storm Shadow missiles for expanded strikes in Russia.

Leesburg, VA – In a sermon Sunday, Pastor Gary Hamrick of Cornerstone Chapel urged Christians to rise above political apathy and vote with unwavering adherence to biblical values. Addressing the congregation and live-stream audience, Pastor Hamrick sought to send a warning and a challenge beyond his northern Virginia church.

Hamrick’s annual election sermons, which attracts viewers worldwide and generate upwards of a million views online, reflect his influence within the Christian community.

In the sermon, Hamrick highlighted statistics that show out of approximately 90 million Christians in the United States, 40 million are expected to stay home on Election Day, and 15 million are not even registered to vote. He attributes this apathy to a misplaced focus on candidates’ personalities rather than their policies and principles. Furthermore, he pointed to a broader issue within the church: many churches have become silent on critical social and political issues, leaving their congregations without guidance on how to navigate these complex times.

“The stakes are too high for us to ignore,” Pastor Hamrick said. “Voting is not just a privilege; it’s a duty. It’s our responsibility to be good stewards of the freedom and values we’ve been entrusted with.” He drew parallels to biblical stewardship, referencing the parable of the two servants to emphasize that just as the master entrusted his possessions to his servants, so too has God entrusted Christians with the privilege of living in a free country and participating in its governance.

Hamrick condemned the cultural narrative that frames moral and social issues as purely political and criticized the trend of churches retreating from addressing these issues from the pulpit, which he believes contributes to widespread confusion and inaction among Christians. “Churches have gone silent on these crucial matters,” he said. “It’s time for pastors to step up and guide their flocks with biblical clarity and courage.”

Twenty-three years ago today, the world stood still as we witnessed the horrific events of September 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people died, but, as the ashes settled, the people of America rose up, forsaking political and ideological allegiances, and choosing to love their neighbors as themselves.

Memorial services are being held across America today, marking the anniversary of those 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump are attending observances at the World Trade Center site in New York and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

A flag was already unfurled at the Pentagon which was also one of the targets on that terrible day. First responders on the scene saluted the flag.

Memorials throughout the country will also be observed in a variety of locations from city halls to parks to gymnasiums and more, to remember those who lost their lives.

AMAZON RIVER BASIN, Northwest Brazil – A profound spiritual transformation is unfolding in the Amazon.

For centuries, the Catholic Church held a near-monopoly in the region. Today, evangelical Christianity is reshaping the region’s spiritual fabric, leading to new converts and churches. CBN News traveled to Brazil’s northwest Amazon region to witness it firsthand for this exclusive report.

“My family and I all grew up here. My grandmother, grandfather and my parents lived and died in this house. I was born in this house and I’m also going to die here,” Ramos told CBN News.

As an 83-year-old resident of the Amazon River, Ramos refuses to trade his floating bamboo house for life in any Brazilian city.

“It’s so much cooler here than in the city. You cannot walk freely in the city. It’s very dangerous, many cars, many people. I’m free here. I keep my windows open. The doors are always open. At my age, I’ve never faced danger,” Ramos said.

Spanning more than 6 million square miles of South America, 60% of the Amazon rain forest is in northwest Brazil. The approximately 30 million Amazonians currently living here are experiencing an unprecedented evangelical revival.

“God is everything for me. God is my father and without Jesus I’m nothing,” Ramos told us.

Ramos epitomizes this spiritual shift.

Growing up Catholic, he remembers when the faith dominated his riverside community. Not anymore.

The Amazon River here in the northern part of Brazil is filled with hundreds of these small tributaries that in essence snake through the jungle, and over the many years evangelical Christians have been traversing these waters in an attempt to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the Amazonian people.

“Those early days were definitely much, much more difficult than today,” said Josué Bengtson, pastor of Belem Foursquare Church.

Bengtson has spent decades traversing the river’s intricate network, first as a missionary then as a pastor spreading the evangelical message of salvation.

A censorship movement is rising in the world’s democracies–whether it’s British citizens charged over social media posts, France’s arrest of the owner of the social media platform Telegram, Brazil’s shutting down Elon Musk’s X for not complying with censorship restrictions, or Mark Zuckerberg’s admission that the Biden White House pressured Facebook and Instagram to censor stories it didn’t like.

“This anti-free speech movement is the most sophisticated, largest and global movement we have ever faced,” says legal scholar Jonathan Turley, author of The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage.

Turley says, “I think the problem with free speech is that every generation has to defend it. And this generation has never been more divided, because they have been told that free speech is going to hurt them.”

A poll last month by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression found nearly one in three Americans now believe the First Amendment “goes too far.”

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz told MSNBC in 2022, “I think we need to push back on this. There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, and especially around our democracy.”

On the contrary, the freedom to say what the majority doesn’t like is the very foundation of a free society. And yet, that bedrock freedom is under attack by governments and political leaders.

An investigation by the Foundation for Freedom Online found documents from Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency or CISA that indicate that as recently as 2021, the agency worked with platforms to censor speech by labeling people posting so-called “misinformation” as “domestic threat actors,” a possible First Amendment violation. The website showing the operation was then scrubbed from the internet but was found using the “Wayback Machine.”

A CISA spokesman said the agency has never censored anyone, and that the material was probably removed because it created a misunderstanding. But CISA is a part of Homeland Security, which tried to create a disinformation czar.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act from USAID, a State Department program intended to strengthen democracies overseas, show that the agency encourages other nations to censor social media.

In other Western democracies, the censorship situation is even worse.

In Great Britain, a nation most Americans used to consider a bastion of democracy, police charge thousands of citizens each year over their social media posts. One video shows an officer at a man’s door telling him, “I’m arresting you for improper use of the electronic communications network.”

Bored and looking for something to do this summer, Danny Doherty hatched a plan to raise money for his brother’s hockey team by selling homemade ice cream.

But a few days after setting up a stand and serving up vanilla, shaved chocolate and fluffernutter to about 20 people, Danny’s family received a letter from the Norwood Board of Health ordering it shut down. Town officials had received a complaint and said that the 12-year-old’s scheme violated the Massachusetts Food Code, a state regulation.

“I was surprised and upset,” he said of the letter that came Aug. 5. “I don’t understand because there are so many lemonade stands and they don’t get shut down.”

Danny’s mom, Nancy Doherty, who had encouraged her son to start the stand as long as he donated half of the proceeds to charity, also was taken aback.

“Somebody complained. That was the most disappointing part for us was that somebody thought it necessary to complain about a child’s stand,” she said. “It seemed a little, you know, crazy if you ask me.”

Rather than give up, Danny decided to give away the ice cream and accept donations for the Boston Bear Cubs, a team featuring players with physical and developmental disabilities – including his brother, who is autistic.

That’s when the neighborhood fundraiser blew up and became the talk of Norwood, a suburban town about an hour from Boston.

The first day they gave away the ice cream, supplies ran out in 10 minutes and $1,000 was raised. Then, word began to spread about the fundraiser and Danny’s clash with the town. Local media ran stories about the stand, prompting scores of local businesses to hold their own fundraisers for the hockey team.

Town officials, meanwhile, said they received hate mail and death threats over the dispute, which they suggested has been badly mischaracterized in the media.

Actor Kirk Cameron, who shot to fame in the 1980s while starring in the TV show “Growing Pains,” has gone on to become a Christian hero to millions, creatively sharing his faith and views with the masses.

Most recently, he partnered with Brave Books, a company producing Christian and faith-based children’s projects, and is now preparing to create and star in a kids’ show called “Adventures With Iggy and Mr. Kirk.” It’s a series that will help Cameron further spread Christian values to parents, kids, and families.

Cameron said his team is currently crowdfunding the first season to ensure they maintain creative control. “Adventures with Iggy and Mr. Kirk” is a natural outgrowth of Cameron’s See You at the Library initiative with Brave Books, an effort that saw him touring libraries across America to read to families.

That experience — one that came with some controversy after libraries reportedly rebuffed Cameron’s appearances and drag queens protested — exposed some important realities for the actor.

“I’m getting messages from people — friends of mine who are all about the work of bringing transformation to culture, and they’re saying it appears that people are finally waking up,” he said. “And I resonate with that as I go to churches and schools and libraries.”

Cameron continued, “People are waking up and realizing that the dystopian circus show is here, and the ringmasters like it. And if we just keep drinking the Kool-Aid, and eating the cotton candy, and stay entertained … by all this crazy stuff, it’s just going to get worse.”

Meyer said at first some of the second-chance hires would work a few days or weeks and then disappear. Then he had an ‘a-ha’ moment and brought in social workers to help remove barriers for employees he now sees as family.

“We have a transportation program not only in or near term on a bus line, but we worked with nonprofits to get our family members their first car,” said Meyer. “We have housing. We have our own Nehemiah properties where we charge a quarter of the market rate and furnish it.”

The company’s holistic approach, which includes spiritual wellness and continuing education, has led to a thriving workforce.

“As I started moving up in the company, I started to believe in myself,” employee Michael Taylor says in a promotional video for the company. “Fast-forward nine years, I’m the director of operations in charge of about a hundred people here at Nehemiah that report to me.”

“We have some family members that have spent 20-plus years in prison,” said Kristen Schumacher, chief manufacturing officer at Nehemiah Manufacturing.

An elderly McDonald’s employee has a reason to rejoice after a community came together to help ease his financial burdens.

Edward Eubanks, 82, recently told KSNV-TV he hopes to one day retire but is unable.

The Vietnam War veteran, who performs janitorial services and refills soda, has been working at the fast food establishment since 2009.

“I tell them, ‘I am Mr. Ed, ., the hamburger man,’” Eubanks told KSNV-TV. “I restock the soda station, which is lids, napkins and straws, and then I sweep and mop the floor, [and] empty the garbage.”

Despite working for most of his life, Eubanks said he has never been able to invest or properly save for retirement. Regardless of not having funds to stop working, the elderly man keeps a positive spirit.

“If you laugh a lot and keep moving, you got it made,” he said.

After hearing Eubanks’ story, customer Abraham Cruz stepped in to try and offer some financial assistance. He created a GoFundMe, which has now brought in $25,000 for Eubanks.

In a description for the fundraiser, Cruz said he’s not trying to make the man rich, but wants to “give him some relief.”

“It’s become my favorite role I have ever had actually. Reagan was a hero of mine. I voted for him twice and he was like, everybody’s dad. He was a real heavyweight, and he won the Cold War. It really meant a lot to me in my life for all of us of that generation and for the generations today. And playing him was the challenge of my life. The biggest challenge of playing Reagan was getting down to him as a person, not the hero that he was to me and so many people, and that’s kind of warts and all because that’s who we are,” he told CBN News.

“There was a place in Reagan, in talking to people who really knew him and were close to him, that was very private, that was impenetrable. This is the great communicator we’re talking about. That’s what makes people tick down at their core. And that was where I wanted to get to. Like I said, I didn’t want to do an impersonation, and fear went up my spine because Reagan was like Muhammad Ali,” he continued.

Quaid did point out the similarities the Reagan family had with his family.

“We were similar in many ways. I didn’t see myself as Reagan. I didn’t think I looked like him and sounded like him. But we both have positive dispositions, I think, down at the bottom of things. And he was an actor,” he said.

Finding Reagan’s distinctive voice for the role was also important for Quaid.
