Donald Trump Unveils His Own College Tuition Plan

During a speech Thursday in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump unveiled another piece of his education policy—this one dealing with college tuition.

The Republican presidential nominee framed the proposal as another means to address the lack of opportunity for many American families. And unlike Democratic proposals that offer “free” tuition at taxpayer expense, his focuses on the tax breaks many colleges and universities receive without any assurance that the cost of attendance will fall.

He said:

One of the biggest problems facing young people and families today is the cost of college education. The cost of college has increased by over 500 percent since 1973.

But what a lot of people don’t know is that universities get massive tax breaks for their massive endowments. These huge multibillion-dollar endowments are tax-free, but too many of these universities don’t use the money to help with tuition and student debt.

Instead, these universities use the money to pay their administrators, or put donors’ names on buildings or just store the money away. In fact, many universities spend more on private equity fund managers than tuition programs.

But they should be using the money on the students—for tuition, for student life and for student housing.

On top of that, the federal government spends over $70 billion in higher education every year, plus another $130 billion on federal loans.

Here again, the universities don’t use the money to reduce the price of college—but to increase it.

We have to break this cycle. I’m going to work with Congress on reforms to make sure that if universities want access to all of these special federal tax breaks and tax dollars—paid for by you—that they are making a good faith effort to reduce the cost of college and student debt and to spend their endowments on their own students.

Earlier in the speech, Trump said a “first-class public school education, as well as options for alternatives through charter schools, school choice and homeschooling,” is a right in America, not a privilege.

“The opportunity to attend a two- or four-year college or to pursue a trade or a skill set through vocational and technical education, should be easier to access, pay for and finish,” he added. “Education is the bedrock of our society.”

Why Some Believers Can Be a Bad Influence on Your Health Behaviors

Our health-related behaviors can easily become influenced by the ways of the world—the ways of the unbeliever. We can also be influenced in a negative way by other Christians.

Social norms and the practices of those around us can be so influential that our ways and habits can end up being indistinguishable from those who are not followers of Jesus. But, as Christians, we are called to be holy—set apart from the unbelieverin all our ways.

“Because it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.'” (1 Pet. 1:16, MEV).

This applies to what we eat and how we care for—or don’t care for— our bodies, the temple of the Holy Spirit, the living God.

I confess that this applies to my life too.

Let’s look at two Scriptures in particular:

“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? What communion has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he who believes with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will live in them and walk in them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ Therefore, ‘Come out from among them and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty'” (2 Cor. 6:14-18, MEV).

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (2 Cor. 7:1, MEV).

To be separate from the world and its practices does not apply only to blatant sinful behaviors such as those that Paul speaks of: “adultery, sexual immorality, impurity, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, rage, selfishness, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and the like.” (Gal. 5:19-21). This ought to extend to how we spend our money, how we use our time and how we attend to our health.

We are each called to “work out” our own salvation (Phil. 2:12). Part of “working out” our salvation is to become more and more set apart from the ways of the world. As we are aware that what we are doing is sinful, then we are instructed in God’s Word to purify ourselves of this type of behavior.

“What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? You were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

So, in light of the verse above and Romans 12:1, here are a few key questions we each ought to ask ourselves: Is habitually eating food and drinking beverages that are not good for our bodies a sin? Is being slothful, being inactive, a sin? Is eating more calories than we expend in physical activity—and putting on a lot of excess weight—a sin? Is repeatedly engaging in any unhealthy behavior a sin?

Sit with that for a second. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to respond to these questions.

If these unhealthy behaviors are sinful, why do we continue in our sin?

Have you been, like I have, so influenced by the attitudes and lifestyles of others—even by those in the body of Christ, the church—that it’s affected your attitude concerning these behaviors? It’s an easy thing to do. It’s easy to become complacent. I think the church at large has become complacent with this issue. The term “sloppy grace” could apply here.

Another motivator to caring for our bodies in ways that are different than the unbelievers is that it’s a good witness. Others will see in us behaviors that are different. Those who know that we are Christians may connect the dots between our behavior and our faith.

Those who may not know about our faith may ask why we have the lifestyle habits that we have, and we can explain our motivation for caring for our bodies.

This post is not meant to be a scolding, it’s meant to be a reminder and an encouragement. And I need the reminder as much as many of you might need it.

“Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” (Prov. 27:17, MEV).

So, fellow Christ follower, I encourage you to be connected with at least one other person who is like-minded about this issue so that he/she may encourage you and hold you accountable, and so that he/she challenges you to grow and be more and more transformed into the likeness of Christ, including in your health-related behavior.

And you don’t have to do this in your own self-effort. The Holy Spirit within you will help you do this! He is faithful.

But we all, seeing the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, as in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Cor. 3:18, MEV). {eoa}

Officials Pull 133 Bodies From the Water After Boat Capsizes

At least 133 bodies had been recovered by Friday from a boat carrying hundreds of migrants that capsized off Egypt two days earlier, Egyptian officials said.

The boat sank off Burg Rashed, a coastal village on the Nile Delta. Rescue workers and fishermen said they had rescued at least 169 people, but confusion remained over how many might still be missing.

Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said 133 bodies had been retrieved from the Mediterranean, while Mohamed Sultan, governor of the Beheira region, said 148 had been recovered.

Security sources said there had been almost 600 migrants aboard the boat. However, a survivor whose comments appeared in a video posted online said the migrants had been told that about 200 people would be on board, but that the smugglers had then added another 50, causing the boat to founder.

Officials said the boat was carrying Egyptian, Sudanese, Eritrean and Somali migrants, and that they believed it was heading for Italy. Four members of the crew were arrested.

The International Organization for Migration says that more than 3,200 migrants have died while attempting to cross the Mediterranean this year, while an estimated 298,474 have reached European shores. {eoa}

Use the ‘Racist’ Word, but Use It Carefully

I get called all kinds of names on a regular basis—from Hitler to homophobe and from pitiful to pathological—but I don’t get called a racist all that much (unless, of course, I’m speaking against radical Islam, which somehow makes me a racist, as if Islam was a race and as if criticizing murderous religionists was unfair).

Last night was different, though, as I drew attention to the lawless rioters in Charlotte, near where I live, saying that this was not God’s way and that it was not the way of justice. But since I didn’t immediately assume that the police were guilty of killing an unarmed black man in cold blood—in other words, because I didn’t immediately disbelieve a black police chief, a black police officer, and other (presumably black) eyewitnesses—I was not only lacking in compassion, I was a racist.

One commenter on my Facebook page stated that, “Brown is a racist and that is clear,” explaining, “You are getting called out for being a racist. You have proven it time and time again with your posts. You see racist comments on here and you do nothing. That is because it is in your heart. Repent and leave God out of your foolishness!”

For the record, I sometimes see as few as one out of every 100 (or 1,000) comments posted, since we get as many as 100,000 comments per week on our various social media posts, although our team removes extremely offensive or profane comments when they are spotted.

But my concern is that disagreement is now branded racism, that failure to affirm each and every grievance is perceived as racism, and that anything short of complete acceptance of the major, PC talking points is called racism.

So it is not enough to immediately post reports about police shootings on my Facebook page, including both the Tulsa and Charlotte shooting, along with the breaking news report that the Tulsa officer had been charged with manslaughter.

It is not enough to constantly discuss race issues on my radio show, where black callers and guests share the challenges they have faced in America and where a black Charlotte pastor and seminary professor said this very week that there is still systemic racism in our country.

It is not enough to end articles with lines like this: “It’s time for white Americans, like me, to stand side by side with black Americans, like [NFL star] Ben Watson, and say, ‘Enough with our flawed system. We stand with you against injustice and discrimination, and we want to empower you, not enslave you. America will not thrive until you are thriving.'”

No, unless I immediately side against the police, unless I buy into the prevailing PC narrative, unless I speak no critical words against protesters—or constantly balance them with caveats—I’m a racist.

A few years ago, a caller accused me of racism, after which a flood of black and Hispanic callers took this caller to task. They knew me too well for that, and on quite a few occasions, I’ve had the joy of meeting black listeners who just discovered I was white, meaning, that they perceived me to be anything but an enemy or outsider while listening to my show.

But I don’t write this primarily about me, although I have, quite obviously, used myself as an example.

I write this for the sake of others, in particular for the sake of my black American friends whom I love and cherish with a deep sense of brotherhood.

You see, if we throw around the “r” word too loosely, not only does the word lose its power, but it also diminishes one’s listening audience, since you end up preaching to a very narrow-minded, increasingly-small, sometimes-bigoted choir.

The fact is that it is not racist to say that the looters and violent protesters make everyone else look bad, and when that is the big news in my own city—all while a proper investigation of the police shooting is taking place—then that it is what I will call out.

It is not racist to state that black lives matter beginning in the womb, pointing to the disproportionate percentage of black abortions, which I take as a satanic attack on black Americans.

It is not racist to say that the welfare system has enslaved black Americans more than it has empowered them, also contributing to the breakdown of the black American family.

And it is not racist to respond to a black professor who, I believe, overstates his case in his letter to white America.

At the very worst, someone could say to me, “Look, what you’re saying is true. We’re just asking you to be more empathetic right now.”

But that is a far cry from being racist, as I hope all would agree.

I have said many times that white Americans often do not see racism when it is there, while black Americans often see racism when it is not there, meaning that we all have blind spots and we need to listen to each other and learn from each other in order to recognize these blind spots.

Is it racist to make such a statement? I think not.

So, let us listen to each other, learn from each other and stand with each other for justice, and let us be careful not to use the “r” word against each other unless it is really merited.

That way, when we expose real racism, we can do it with bite and power and conviction.

Muslim Brotherhood Gains Major Government Foothold

Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood has gained a foothold in parliament after ending a decade-long boycott and returning to the fray as the mainstay of a broad civic alliance, according to preliminary results released on Thursday.

The Islamists, easily Jordan’s biggest organized political grouping, had shunned previous elections in protest at a system that skews representation toward thinly populated rural areas dominated by tribal politics, rather than the cities, where the Brotherhood is strong.

But under pressure from a government crackdown that followed Islamist-led protests in the wake of the Arab Spring, the Brotherhood’s political arm, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), ditched its “Islam is the Solution” slogan and joined Christians and prominent national figures to create the National Coalition for Reform (NCR).

Preliminary results from Tuesday’s election indicated that the NCR had won at least 16 of the 130 seats.

Zaki Bani Rusheid, a prominent Brotherhood leader, said the NCR would seek alliances with others to try to form an effective opposition.

Although Jordan has no ruling party, its government, appointed by King Abdullah, has for years faced little or no opposition from a parliament dominated by pro-government tribal leaders, businessmen and ex-security officials, often elected on promises to address local rather than national concerns.

Modest Step

Although the NCR will not be able to block legislation or cabinet appointments, it should nevertheless bring livelier debate to what has been almost a rubber-stamp assembly whose passivity has allowed successive governments to enact draconian temporary laws restricting public freedoms.

Although the vote represents a modest step in the democratization process launched by the king, a staunch U.S. ally, as he seeks to insulate Jordan from the conflicts at its borders, the NCR is likely to use the platform to air demands for a more representative electoral system.

The alliance won at least one seat in nearly every major multi-member constituency, according to initial results.

In the capital’s affluent third district, home to many government agencies as well as much of the business and political elite, the alliance won three of seven seats.

Although the national turnout was a mere 37 percent, analysts said it would have been significantly lower if the Islamists had not taken part.

International observers praised Jordan for holding relatively well-administered elections at a time of regional turbulence, but urged broader political representation.

“There is no equality of the vote. Under the current districting, large urban areas are under-represented, and sparsely populated or rural areas are considerably over-represented,” the EU’s chief observer, Jo Leinen, told reporters.

Many of the citizens in the major cities, where over two-thirds of the population live, are of Palestinian descent. Their political empowerment in a country where native Jordanian tribes hold power is a sensitive issue. {eoa}

Unholy Prophetic Alliance Forming to Control the World

From Paris and Brussels to San Bernardino and New York, terror attacks continue at an alarming rate. But what’s the “end game?” What are the terrorists trying to accomplish?

Best-selling author Jay Sekulow believes that in these turbulent times, an evil and prophetic alliance is forming across the globe.

The players include Iran, Russia and jihadists with a plan born out of radical Islam. It’s goal, Sekulow says, is complete world domination.

As these radical forces seek to reshape the world, they also want to remove personal liberty and replace it with Sharia law, a strict, legal code derived from the Quran and other Muslim writings.

Muslims must follow Sharia, and so must all who live in lands controlled by Islam.

In his new book, Unholy Alliance: The Agenda Iran, Russia, and Jihadists Share for Conquering the World, Sekulow lays out the ideology and strategy of radical Islam—as well as the path we must take to defeat it.

Benham Brothers Expose the ‘Wizard of Oz’ Behind the Curtain

Once again, our home state of North Carolina is at the epicenter of the moral revolution in America.

We’ve gone from March Madness to moral madness as the NCAA and ACC removed all of their sex-segregated championship games because we have sex-segregated bathrooms.

Twenty years ago, if we would’ve said something like this—heck, 10 years ago—you would’ve called us crazy; but not in today’s America.

It’s moral insanity. And it’s all based on lies.

Here are the simple truths you need to know about our state and House Bill 2, the law at the center of the controversy:

North Carolina has hosted sports championship games for decades. Our bathrooms and locker rooms have always been sex-segregated, which is consistent with every other state in the history of our country up until recently.

North Carolina has not had one—not one—legal case of discrimination against transgenders using bathroom or locker-room facilities. It’s a “problem” that has never existed, and it still doesn’t exist to this day.

And in terms of our economy, since our conservative governor took office in 2013, North Carolina has added 276,000 net new private-sector jobs, unemployment has dropped 3.7 percent, our state skyrocketed to the fourth-fastest growing economy in the U.S., we’re one of only nine states with a triple-A credit rating, and our tax reforms have resulted in such a dramatic improvement to our business climate that the Tax Foundation raised our ranking from 44th in 2013 to 15th today.

But none of this matters because there are political gains to be made by the radical left. So the Charlotte City Council ignored our economic growth and created a conflict, one that never existed before, in the form of “discrimination” against transgendered people.

The Human Rights Campaign, the “Wizard of Oz” behind the curtain, came alongside our city leaders to craft an ordinance that added “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” to the cities non-discrimination policy.

Before going any further, we need to stop here and consider an important point:

Law is supposed to be based on an objective standard for people’s safety, not a subjective standard for people’s comfort.

Gender identity (who you go to bed as) and sexual orientation (who you go to bed with) are fluid feelings. In other words, they can change from day to day, based on how a person feels.

So adding these protected “classes” to Charlotte’s non-discrimination policy subverts the purpose of the law. It flips it upside-down and makes the law a sword instead of a shield.

And a sword it became as the new city ordinance—the Charlotte bathroom bill—not only removed rights of privacy and protection in our bathrooms, but it also placed a mandate on private businesses to participate in messages and events that were against their consciences.

Print shops, photographers, florists, bakers, pizza shop owners and anyone if asked to service messages and events (not people), regardless of constitutional rights to object, were to be forced to participate.

The General Assembly and our governor recognized these threats to freedom and took immediate action to protect the rights of all citizens in our state with the passage of House Bill 2, or HB2.

It did a couple crucial things:

First, it made the law objective once again for all people’s safety. HB2 “objectified” gender. It took away the subjective argument that your gender is based on feelings and made a common-sense objective standard—your birth certificate.

Second, it protected the constitutional rights of all business owners not to be forced to act against their consciences. Family owned, Christian, Muslim, Hindu businesses remained free to object to messages and/or events that were against their conscience.

The key to the second part here is that it’s based on a message or event—not on a person. That’s important to remember, as the narrative against HB2 is that it’s a law against LGBT people. Nothing could be further from the truth.

And here’s the best twist of all, one that the mainstream media have not highlighted as of yet. Our governor and the General Assembly have considered repealing HB2 if the Charlotte ordinance was eliminated—yet the liberals on the council refuse to do it.

So who is the one pushing the agenda here? Our state has made huge economic gains and was thriving prior to all this madness. It’s still thriving today, despite the hypocrisy of the NCAA and ACC championship game pullout.

As our culture tailspins morally, it’s the role of the church to bring clarity to the chaos.  And we do it by first bringing truth to light, as we’ve tried to do above. The darkness of lies can’t hold up to the truth of light.

It’s time Christians jump in the ring and shine the light of truth in the midst of darkness—our state and our nation desperately need it.

C. Peter Wagner Admitted to Hospital for ‘Weakened Condition’

C. Peter Wagner was admitted to the hospital last week in very weakened condition, according to a recent prayer letter from his wife, Doris.

“After several days of extensive testing, the general consensus of his many excellent doctors is that Peter has become severely dehydrated from the ongoing treatment to control his fluid retention. The treatment is very much a balancing act and the dilemma is that he is now both dehydrated and fluid overloaded at the same time.

“To further complicate the matter, the treatments for either problem cause the other issue to escalate further. As such, it has been a struggle to provide Peter the right medical treatment to help him through this challenge,” Doris shared in a prayer request newsletter.

The newsletter was then shared by minister Rebecca Greenwood of Christian Harvest International on Facebook.

“I spent yesterday (Thursday) at the hospital with them and will see them again today. We so love the Wagners. Peter is at a crossroads moment and I felt that it would be good to rally our prayer efforts around Peter, Doris and the entire family. So I have included a portion of Doris’ prayer letter that she sent out by email a couple of days ago for you to read and to also agree with in prayer. Thank you for praying!! As you will read below, Peter, Doris and their entire family are so grateful for all those standing in the gap on their behalf!” Greenwood posted.

Doris gave several specific prayer requests:

We are asking for your prayers at this time, perhaps more than ever. Peter is facing his most significant challenge he has had to date. He is at a turning point and we are asking you to stand with us and lift him up in prayer for his healing.
Peter and and many of his close friends and family believe God still had some assignments for him to complete.
Prayer Points:
1. That Peter’s body will come into proper fluid balance and be healed. Ask that the excess fluid be expelled. He has gained over 20lbs in the last week!
2. That his strength and vitality will increase.
3. That his kidneys will function properly and process fluid normally.
3. That the doctors will know exactly how best to treat him and that the treatments will be successful and rapid.
4. That peace will rest upon him and our family.

Please join us in praying for the Wagner family.

When the Holy Spirit Foils the Enemy’s Destructive Plans

We all know the Holy Spirit is our Helper. We know He leads and guides us. We know He is our peace. We know He shows us things to come. We know He is faithful, trustworthy and He has our back.

I got a deeper revelation of all of these realities on a recent ministry trip to London and Spain. I was having the time of my life establishing a New Breed Revival Network field office in the United Kingdom with Ryan LeStrange. The glory of God was rich. The fire of God was falling—and in the midst of all this supernatural fun I got a check in my spirit.

It wasn’t a still small voice giving me an instruction. It was just an impression in my spirit—a knowing that something wasn’t quite right. I felt an urgency to check the safety of my passport. It wasn’t in the pocket in which I always secure it. It wasn’t in any of the other pockets either. Rather than panicking, I decided to embrace the glory in the meeting and deal with it later. After all, what could I do in that moment? So kept this to myself and jumped in the river of revival.

When I got back to the hotel, I searched through all my bags diligently. The passport was nowhere to be found. I looked under the bed, in every drawer and in places it couldn’t possibly be just in case—but to no avail. At that point, I texted one of my intercessors back in the States and asked her to pray and start researching my alternatives.

When the Holy Spirit’s Foils the Enemy’s Plans

Not surprisingly, it wasn’t an easy road from there. I had to rush to Birmingham, about three hours away, the following day. Trains were late. Traffic was out of control. The night meeting ran over because the miracle healing power of God was flowing. We wound up finding a passport photo station around 11 p.m. and finally returned to the hotel sometime after 1 a.m. I had scheduled an appointment at the U.S. Embassy the next morning at 8:30 to get a new passport and printed out all the necessary documents but I would need to leave by 7:30 and navigate my way through the London Underground to make it happen.

Or so I thought. The Holy Spirit knew that despite the best advice given me, I would never get to my next assignment if I left the hotel at 7:30. He woke up me up with a sudden flash at 6:40 and an urgent unction to rush out. I showered as fast as I could and fled toward the Underground with five hours of sleep and no idea how to get where I was going—and no train tickets. But the Holy Spirit is faithful. Two men in the lobby gave me their payment cards with more than enough funds to get to the Embassy and back 10 times!

It took me over two hours on the Underground and on foot to get to the Embassy, where I learned I had to walk another several blocks and hire a service to store my laptop. I was late for my appointment and stood in a long line with confident expectation that somehow I’d get emergency travel documents in time to travel across London and catch my flight.

When God Does a Money Miracle

All was going well, until the credit card machines at the Embassy went down. I do not carry much cash, and was told I could not get the passport without hard money. I had counted my money the night before and it was about $100. I needed $135. I counted it that morning and it was $132. I was still short $3 but a man in the Embassy sowed $3 into my life and I was soon on my way to the airport. For all the bogus money miracles false prophets propagate, this one was genuine and had a purpose—provision in a pinch to deliver me from the enemy’s plans.

I ran into other obstacles at the airport with my luggage but thankfully a red-haired security worker showed me Father’s favor and allowed me to cut through the seemingly mile-long line of people moving through the checkpoint. I never would have made it otherwise. (I always say, we redheads have to stick together.) I walked onto the plane in just enough time to take my seat and make my flight to Amsterdam. Actually, we’re about to land there now as I write these words.

My host in London, Oscar Guobadia, was amazed the incident didn’t frazzle me. The peace of God that passes all understanding was guarding my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. After all, He gave me an unction to search for the passport two days before I headed to Spain. Clearly, He had a plan.

Remember, the Holy Ghost has a purpose in everything He does. He doesn’t reveal things to your heart or mind so that you can worry, fret or fear. He doesn’t show you what’s to come so you can stress out and stay up at night. In this case, He made sure I had ample time to get a new passport and make my flight. He is faithful to alert us. Our job is to stay sensitive enough to His Spirit to follow His lead. {eoa}
